DuckDuckGo has a rating of 2.3 stars from 223 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. DuckDuckGo ranks 270th among Search sites.
Previously I was more critical on duckduckgo but I am converting my opinion. Their search function may not be as good as google but then they are not also compiling a database of everything you do on-line and then further sharing it with other organizations (including the government) behind your back. Our best hope is that we support this tool so that they can hopefully continue to improve it and to provide a counterbalance to organizations that are not interested in maintaining real user privacy. For those interested in knowing more about this issue I recommend the following podcast: https://fs.blog/gabriel-weinberg/
Duckduck go is ok, However it is very difficult to remove the last website visited. Right now the url box is stuck on the last page.
I needed to get to a location about 50 miles in a hurry; tried GoogleMaps they wanted my life history as usual for them. Tried this site, WOW! Just plugged in "start" & "stop". Done! No history, no other info asked for!
Research and read up on it - the best anti- Google vehicle out there! I used it for 3+ years on an Android Note and then switched to Apple 8S about 6 months ago (BEST move I ever made in phone land!) and its all been seamless. If you truly want to be as private and untracked as possible, this is the way!
Any sensitive or taboo topic is heavily filtered from results. Duckduckgo doesn't seem to care if your interest is legitimate or if the taboo/sensitive label is justified, the results are simply filtered and censored.
What is the difference between Bing and DDG?
They both filter out most of the independent views
And websites that ARE not mainstream.
They will soon be bought & paid for.
Read the story of Randolph Hearst and learn what
Happens when you don't sell to the 'Big dogs'.
They will get eaten alive.
What I appreciate about this search engine is there is more credibility, unlike the very biased search engine that dominates the marketplace. They provide me with quality results and I have made this my default search engine.
Well, I've just changed my search engine to DuckDuckGo just to test it out. DuckDuckGo's goal is to "Let people have privacy on the internet" but it tracks down what you search. I guess there's no privacy on the internet after all.
I love the search engine in that it is private and I am not tracked. The only downside for me is that it does not allow for voice commands like Google. If they would add that feature, it would be perfect!
I don't know what to believe. The truth about DuckDuck vs Google will not be found in the reviews. I have noticed that several 1-star reviews have the same "BS" included in their reviews. This makes me believe that the same person is writing the 1-star reviews. So unfair to the real reviews. There are very few in-the-middle 3-star reviews. Typically those are the truth. No one or no thing is perfect. To many 5 stars are rarely accurate. They lie too. I don't think we will ever know the truth. I am going to stay with Google, at least I know they are BS (lol/smile).
Duck Duck go tracks what you search. I have searched multiple items from cars to eczema to products that I am interested in buying/ researching. It all shows up in my FB account. If it wasn't tracking my phone then it wouldn't show up on FB. It's just another scam like everything else.
Terrible browser. Like buying Walmart brand only in a browser. FB is difficult to navigate. Enlarging photos is hard too, Duckduckgo makes it difficult to manage Google images. All the way around it sucks; although it might me ok for someone (like an old lady) who isnt computer saavy who just wants to post casket photos on fb of all of her friends.
Only just discovered duck duck go and I'm thoroughly impressed from the start. It's so refreshing to get both sides of a debate and much better results. Good on you duck duck go. Shame shame shame Google!
Tried it. Loved it. The search results are organic. I'm a responsible person and I can take responsibility for filtering the truth myself. I just need the best matches to my searches so I can make an honest assessment of the information. Love that DDG gives me that option. Such a timesaver.
DuckDuckGo promises a safer search engine for those privacy-minded web users that dislike the idea of advertisers having access to their personal information. While there are no guarantees when it comes to online services, DuckDuckGo has certainly made strides to educate their users in how to keep their online presence private from prying eyes by providing resources that teach you how to opt-out of privacy-violating tracking.
The search results on DDG are constantly improving. Most of the time I am able to find the resources I am looking for. Very rarely I will resort to checking Google's results to see if I can find what I am looking for. Would definitely recommend to someone looking for an alternative since Google seems to be becoming more and more an advertising company rather than a search provider.
Sometimes results are good and sometimes not even close. Any site needs revenue to survive and since users are not paying for DuckDuckGo I am sure its receiving revenue from somewhere. So do not confuse privacy benefits from target results that benefit DuckDuckGo supporters. Yeah I get that DDG does not keep your personal data but it has to receive some data to give any sort of accurate results. Google searches are probably not very focused on privacy but if you do not use a Google account its not logging your results in any specific identifying way. For me its all about good results and DDG is still hit or miss for me.
I was afraid when I switched over from Google to DuckDuckGo as my home browser I wouldn't get as accurate or useful search results. Boy, was I wrong. I get right what I am looking for with no distracting ads. The best part is I am not being tracked or advertised to. I love it.
March 1,2020 - I have been using duckduckgo for a couple months now, and every time I perform a duckduckgo search in one tab, then open a different BROWSER and search in Google, I get practically the same results! Duckduckgo does seem to be private, but I also want really great, non-censored results. You won't get this from duckduckgo. I am looking at alternatives now.
Two main reasons I love DuckDuckGo:
1. Bang shortcuts - for example, typing "! Images ducks" directs you to a Google Image Search for ducks; "! Yt ducks" gives you YouTube results, "! Wiki" gives you a Wikipedia page, etc. It saves you from having to navigate to a website, load its homepage, and type in the search bar.
2. No tracking - Google, Yahoo! And Bing track you all the time to give you "personalized" search results, not to mention using your IP address to generate results based on your location. DuckDuckGo gives you results relevant only to the keywords you search for.
Granted their search algorithm isn't as advanced as Google for complex queries.
Tip for consumers:
If you want Google results without being tracked:
Try doing a Startpage search. Startpage essentially searches Google for you, without giving Google your information, and returns the results to you. You can go to startpage.com, OR if you use DuckDuckGo as your default search engine, use their !bang shortcut "!sp" - for example, "!sp ducks" gives you Google results for ducks on Startpage.com.
Malicious Ads:
Sure the ads can lead to malicious sites, but search engines like Google aren't compl
Duckduckgo: "Are you sure you`re not searching for one of our advertisers?" LOL--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are better alternatives. All search engines track. It's impossible for low cost or free services to make money without advertising, and that advertisers require some method of measurement, which involves…. Tracking
I have used DDG to search online for purchases because I believed the non-tracking PR. Whoa! All of sudden on the one site I have white listed from adblock plus, the results of my online purchase searches appear on that website! Disgusted.
I love you duck duck go!
I know it's probably childish excitement I get when I clear my history and I see the flames go up
But seriously, thanks for being so easy.
I know longer say "Google it"
Now I say, DUCK IT!
Some say what? I explain and a new convert is made.
DuckDuckGo has been my "go to" search engine since Googles' political demise. Silencing conservative views, labeling commentators as nazis, etc. But even if you aren't into the whole political world it's a safe browser! As it even says in the title it does not track you or your data. Its fast, unbiased, and anonymous. DuckDuckGo is the right choice for anyone. (This isn't sponsored and I do not work or have any affiliation with DuckDuckGo it's just a good Browser)
Google loves to tout as being the forerunner of freedom and transparency when it comes to privacy and giving accurate search results, however when it comes to providing unfiltered content Duck Duck Go is your go to option as it shows you results without tracking you and then targeting you with specific ads that can be detrimental for you!
You have the best privacy policity are the result in basic search are great, but i really use a lot's the search engine tool and your results are just bad.
In important search i always keep google tab open and the indexing in subject like programming, etc. are just way better
Thanks Duck Duck go! The stupid Google didn't let me get the information I needed to uninstall a Trojan virus in my smartphone but you gave me! So, I thank you so much my security level is optimized now! I uninstalled the Trojan! You're the best Web Browsing App! I appreciate your work the creator of Duck Duck go! Keep it up! Hey, Can you recommend me any keyboard because Gboard also collects my typed letter! So, is there any Duck Duck go keyboard? Anyway thanks!
