Duolingo offers fun and effective language learning through its interactive platform and gamified lessons. Whether I'm learning a new language for travel, work, or personal enrichment, Duolingo makes it engaging and accessible. I appreciate the variety of languages available and the adaptive learning algorithms that personalize the experience based on my progress. Duolingo's bite-sized lessons fit easily into my daily routine, making language learning a pleasure.
I wait since couple month for the email with my test results! I wrote couple emails already but since today, I still do not have my test results! Without these test results I cannot start with my classes! I am already late for the fall semester! It's a shame that you have to pay before you start with the test otherwise, I would still have my money and could do it with someone else. They should shame about themself to rip of students! Never again!
I'm learning Norwegian.
The site is interesting, and the points and daily counter does add a game-like feel and makes you want to return.
I like that there's various types of practices and it's not just matching pictures with words. The little info portions of each lesson are good.
My only complain is that they ran some things too deeply into the ground.
While i found Duolingo to be a sufficiently useful tool for introducing a new language, be prepared for a very frustrating time if you wish to cancel. I have spent the better part of the day trying to stop the automatic renewal with no positive results. There seems to be no phone number for customer service or any other assistance offered by Duolingo. This problem seems to be fairly prevalent in that there are companies established to help navigate disgruntled subscribers (for a hefty fee) through this maze. My humble advice would be to stay clear of Duolingo unless you are willing to commit for the rest of your life.
I am not quite sure why Duolingo changed their format regarding the amount of
''skill points" from 10 to 3 for lessons already learned. Via E-mail Duolingo incites competition between users stating " X person has x amount of points, are you just going to sit there?" It seems incomprehensible to work so hard for so little! This sounds a little " Big Brother-ish " to me, where DL is monitoring what we do and how we do it. Why not raise the skill points for new lessons to 15 and leave the lessons learned@ 10? Too much work for just 3 SP's.
Duolingo is best at building vocabulary in a chosen language. After over a year in using the site to learn Spanish, I really haven't built my Spanish conversational skills very much. It is also very clear that the Duo writers tend to be very progressive and some users may be put off by the examples they use.
I installed their app a few years ago and since then have been binge learning languages with duolingo from time to time. With them you don't feel too much pressure and can study at ur own pace. Their funny reminders and the chance to end 7 day streak on top of the chart and get a reward is really inspiring and makes you keep learning! Cool app!
It's really frustrating when you have a perfect streak and making every effort to practice every day then suddenly for some unknown reason you get kick off the site during the practice dialog..., lots of buffering, the website logs itself off, It's as if its being remotely controlled. I immediately log back in, there's lots of buffering. Then finally when I'm able to log back in, the duolingo website will start you from the very beginning, not even giving you credit for the progress I have already made. Then I start over again just to get kicked off once again from their website. I notice this happens quite frequently after I have had a perfect passing score and streak.
I have no idea what causes this, but it is extremely frustrating. You get kicked, log back in, kicked off again, AGAIN, again...
Tip for consumers:
Duolingo really need to work on their website to make it more efficient for those of us who are dedicated in becoming bilingual.
I've learned German with Dualingo for a while. I must admit that it this experience was ok but not really great. It's better to take courses or hire a tutor. Learning with this online service would mostly appeal to kids as they like listening to music and fill in the gaps, watch videos etc. To sum up, I didn't get the knowledge I've expected.
I am studying 5 languages on Duolingo and have been with them since 2018. Their approach does have merit so I wouldn't be totally negative by any means. I have learned a great deal consistently from the app having missed less than 10 days of learning and I have memorized over 1500. Words in that time. The reason I don't rate it any higher is for the following: I) lack of customer support, 2) treating language learning as a competitive game exclusively by promoting and demoting people according to changing point structures at their whims. Learning language IS NOT a game, but a serious endeavor! I will be looking elsewhere soon. At the same time I am positive about Duolingo's future and will continue to work on it and support it. They gave me two years for free and I decided to give them money in appreciation. Thanks Duolingo!
This use to be a good app. You could always go back to previous lessons to refresh. Not anymore. Make a mistake, lose a heart. Lose 5 hearts and you're done. Can't go any further unless you sign up and then you can use gems to get more hearts. Up until this change I thought duolingo was good but now I'll search for another free app.
I used the app for free and it appears if that is the case you will not be in any advance placement classes. Very basic. Very redundant. Doesn't define words I advance of using and testing on them. Pronunciation tests are a joke passing me at times before I even finished speaking and failing me over one word repeatedly for multiple days no matter how I tried to alter the pronunciation. Too befrank, if you use the app for free you won't get far.
I really like the app except on the speaking exercises with the blue microphone don't work 95%of the time. Duolingo customer service is really different to get a hold of. I have tried to use their automated help with this issue but it doesn't help. Other than that it's a good app.
Do not waste your time with this now worthless program. I joined Duolingo 6 years ago and currently have a 1337 day streak. About a year ago, Duolingo changed the platform into what now is a piece of crap. The old platform, in my opinion, was good. The new platform is more of a video game in which you compete with 30 random people every week. There are "Leagues" with the "Diamond League" being the highest. I've been in that league for about 2 years. I was "following" 2 other students who, once the platform changed, essentially quit using the program. It is free, but even at free it is over priced. You will be far better off paying for a language program, any language program EXCEPT Duolingo Plus. It is even more worthless than the free program because you are paying for NOTHING--literally.
Tip for consumers:
That it has become a total waste of time.
Very useful, fun & progressive app, except for blasting you with so many loud ads that it teaches you as much to watch ads as it does another language. Duolingo advertises its Super Duolingo so much that that particular ad is starting to make me naseous. There are also occasional grammatical errors such as the following:
We didn't use to write emails
Nous Nous n'ecrivions pas d'emails
So, it should say "used to"

I've learned a lot of words and phrases with Duolingo. The thing I'm most concerned about is the stories are often about « friends » lying to each other and taking advantage of each other. I don't think this is an okay subtext to be teaching especially as the app brags about teaching more kids a language then they would be learning in school. How to lie and bully? Really?
Although convenient to use, I am growing increasingly frustrated with this platform the longer that I use it. The learning tools are scarce and, to often, the content is patently unfair - it requires the user to resort to brute force memorization with very limited tools to educate yourself why an answer might be wrong. Also, very frustratingly, an answer is often scored as incorrect for reasons that are not explained. I'd go elsewhere if you are looking for a language learning tool.
The learning tool is basic and really only good to build and reinforce vocabulary. The pronunciation tool needs a lot of work and the voices used to speak range from comic to inaudible. No matter how many times I make my profile private and turn off leaderboards duolingo makes my profile public again and turns leaderboards back on. I hate the cartoonish displays and the leaning paths. If you're using it for free and don't mind your privacy violated and info exposed have at it. Don't pay for it. You will not "learn" much if anything. I've used the program regularly since 2016 and while I appreciate that it's help
Me build vocabulary it works against grammar, pronunciation and real learning.

I have been using the platform for about 2 weeks. I have noticed that it has a homosexual agenda, both in the characters and eventually the dialogue. I would not recommend this company for anyone, especially children and youth. It is a "grooming" site for perverse behaviour.
Tip for consumers:
Beware. It is a grooming site for transgenders.

I work with French people at my work. I didn't understand a single word when they talked to me. But thanks to Duolingo I can communicate better. Duolingo is indeed a helpful tool to learn a new language. It's easy to use and the results are seen right away. I use the free version. The only thing I don't like is the ads, but they just pop when you finish a lesson.
I used this site for years for trying learning languages. Year by year they become more greedy and worse, pushing their Paid Plus Subscription. Non existent costumers service. They removed forums were people could interract eachother for language ex change tips, so they dont allow anymore that people have a voice on there. Their recent update was the drop that filled the glass and made unbearable and frustrating to use this site... Do not recommend. Avoid this crap. There are better sites out there for learning languages
Excellent language-learning application!
It works extremely well with IOS and Android. The lessons are short and very effective! It's a pleasure to use it on a daily basis. I couldn't recommend it more!
After spending 166 consecutive days on the Duolingo app, the voices used are increasingly difficult to understand. When using the slow option to hear the phrase, the pronunciation is even worse. In particular, a young girls voice is the most difficult to understand. Keep in mind that you are trying to learn a new language and you need to clearest pronunciation of the words. I am not sure the frustration is worth the insignificant daily progress. I suggest that Duolingo change the voices, especially the young female voices.
My daughter enjoys the app on her Ipad. She uses it to learn some languages. She especially likes using it while in the car and it keeps her busy and happy. It's easy to use so she does not need my help.

The app is very organized and makes learning new languages easy. It go so far as to test how much you know to determine what's practice and what's new for you. ( If you so choose) The app lets you join in " clubs/clans " with people learning the same language(s). You can ask questions and comment on other posts. Your acheivements will be shared. There are games and questions posted by Duolingo that make it just that more fun. Overall the app is amazing. My only negative/complaint is that I wish that it had almost all languages. It has around 20ish. But that's something I hope to see from them in the future.
I would like to say that Duolingo is a very nice website, my only complaint is that it is extremely laggy
I finish a lesson then it loads then i brings me onto the home page and says that I did not do the lesson. Other than it being laggy I give it a 5 stars
In the free version (nothing is free; you are bombarded with advertisements) you are pestered till the edge in order to subscribe to the paid version. Really everything is done to frustrate you. And yet they claim it is an educational app. Don't make me laugh!
Duolingo is the world's most popular way to learn a language. It's 100% free, fun and science-based. Practice online on duolingo.com or on the apps!
