The company's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and unresolved order issues. Many customers report extensive delays in shipping and inadequate communication regarding their purchases, leading to frustration and a sense of helplessness. Additionally, there are widespread concerns about the platform's reliance on automated systems, which fail to provide effective support for both buyers and sellers. Despite some positive experiences with individual sellers, the overarching sentiment highlights a pressing need for improved transparency and accountability from the company to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

Etsy marketing sent personal email if I want to increase number in sales and review to attract customers with so expensive price. I just opened my store for a month. I didn't use it but you will see many sellers use it with thousands or more than 10,000 of SALES in their Etsy shop and fake review. It many sellers of wall hanging from Rusia and China copy your product even worse using pictures from other seller accounts or instagram. I reported to Etsy no response. It is very unfair for the honest seller.
Don't buy from this site, because when you have problem with your order they won't responsible for anything, for instant if the seller sent you fake tracking number, the escalate team will say it's not their responsibility if the tracking number is wrong or error as soon as the seller have tracking number for you. This means any seller can fake tracking number and they will get away with it. Or if the item does not arrive, the escalate team will called it a late arriving and you have to contact the shipping company by your self. And not even talk about refund, because most of the shops on ETSY pay through PayPal and thus they will advise you to contact PayPal your self for refund. All in all this website is a $#*! scammer who responsible for nothing that ever happened to you lost order. Ehh. But they will responsible for the damage item, however needed the proof but where could you give them proof when item never arrived. Hahaha what's a joke website!
Contact ETSY escalate team and open case on ETSY is a wasted of time and shopping on Etsy is a wasted of money.
It's been almost 10 years selling on Etsy. At first it was absolutely wonderful with a great community but over the last few years etsy's greed has gotten the best of them. With ever growing fees and new fees being added. Changes that are for Etsy's benefit and hurt the seller. Etsy has gone downhill and fast. It's sad to see what was once a great platform for sellers selling handmade items turn into greed and cheap mass produced items.
Ordered startrek stuff once, everything was nice. If want to find something unusual, see here, Hovewer a lot of dishonest sellers also are present here.
The person below does not even identify by its name and is not brave to upload its own picture, and yet, he/she dares to refute scam victims! Certainly one of these Etsy scammers afraid of truth!
It is obvious that Etsy itself does NOT sell anything but it is a scam site created by thieves for thieves! Once you get scammed, Etsy will send an auto-response telling you that it is up to scammer whether your stolen money will be returned or not. If you appreciate such kind of bizarre fraud - go ahead! If not, then you know what to do!
Those that are posting below are referring to a specific shop and not Etsy itself, which is a little unfair. Etsy is a website that effectively allows people to open up their own stores and sell their goods (like Ebay, except it specializes with homemade, crafted products).
I have had so much success with Etsy, purchasing a number of items over the years. Recently, I got to see the other side of Etsy with their case system.
What happens if a store doesn't send you what you pay for? You open up a case. The vendor has 5 days to respond to your case and resolve the issue without Etsy needing to intervene. The shop that I was having problems with did not respond, so I escalated my case.
Etsy then responded that the seller had two additional days to either send me what I purchased or refund me. If not, they said that they would immediately refund me, and shut down their shop until they reimbursed Etsy for their funds. I was blown away by the customer service that Etsy provided and I really do encourage people to keep shopping here.
I bought a setting that is already is bending and the vendor will not help. I recommend that you stay away from Quincy custom jewelry or his real name Quong. You will get no help from him once he gets his money.
There are thousands of scammers on Etsy but mine happened to be Lannie Simino from the shop: www.etsy.com/shop/revintagelanniejewls. She stole $530 from me for a pair of fake gold toned earrings that she falsely branded as 20k gold. I grew suspicious about their light weight and their unusual shine, so I did the acid test in which they resulted negative. Contacted the scammer immediately but she never responded. Then I opened a case with Etsy but they defended the scammer because she shares the stolen money with them. They don't care about buyers because they know that new victims will fall into their trap anyway. I've got burned but you don't have to. Beware of these cyber criminals pretending to be vintage merchants. Worse yet, there are thousands of women among them...
I ORDERED A BOOT FOR $128.00, THE PRODUCTS I RECEIVED WAS NOT GOOD. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT I HAVE LOST MY BUCKS, BUT WHEN I CALLED THEIR REFUND HELPLINE NUMBER i. E. *******320 and CLAIMED FOR THE REFUND.
AND GUESS WHAT! WITHIN 8 WORKING DAYS THE MONEY GOT CREDITED IN MY ACCOUNT. AFTER READING SO MUCH OF NEGATIVE REVIEWS I THOUGHT I HAVE LOST MY MONEY, BUT AT THE END I GOT MY REFUND...
I purchased a pair of earrings on Etsy. The ad said large, in most peoples mind large is large. However shop owner PrettyVintageJewelry thinks that large is small to medium. After receiving the earring and contacting her for return. She informed me she does not take back any purchases under any circumstances. BEWARE OF THIS SELLER! Etsy customer service was ineffective and sided with the seller. You be the judge, my Gold earrings in the photo and her "small" silver earings on the left... DON'T take a chance on this seller, you will regret it!
I was a seller on Etsy. They don't take into consideration that customers lie. I sold items to a personal friend of mine. Me and this individual made an agreement. So without my knowledge she complained about not getting the product and she already received it. I received an email after the fact that they refunded the money back to her and she also got my products for free. I hand make everything so that was really disappointing and also aggravating. I'm highly upset. Your sellers are the reason your still in business. Where is the loyalty to your sellers? Despite what you've heard the customer is not always right/ I'll be taking my products to another company where they listen and understand.
Etsy used to be so great less than a year ago, but now they are very dirty and scammy to sellers, one of my main complaints is that they started pushing this "free shipping" if you put free shipping on all your listing you get put higher on search engine, at the same time they started charging a fee on shipping "they say to prevent over priced shipping", they suggest for us offer free shipping to avoid the new fees and compensate the lost with raising your prices, what they failed to mention(or spun it well) is they raised the percentage they take out of your main sale price, so if you do free shipping and raise the price of your items they make more money, so I take the lesser of two evil and watch them take from my shipping that isn't part of any of my income, because it's shipping. If Etsy corp office was in touch with the real world they would have maybe thought about how the cost of shipping is sky rocketing every year, so anyway there's a loss for sellers instantly on shipping, whenever I list an item I get scolded for even having shipping prices on my listings like a 2yr old. So now I pay a fee for my listing, a fee for my sale, a fee on shipping, a fee for a cancelled order (this just happened today and why i'm here) because a customer decided to cancel her order out of the blue, a fee for taxes... I'm sure I'm missing one or two or three more new fees. Had my shop since 2009, they pull listings they think are offensive of items that I have sold for years (I sell vintage and antiques)and slap me with some hate speech, white supremacist, you are evil violation, that's pretty insulting if you ask me, you do not get to speak to a human if a question of problem arises, I swear my shop has at least 3 human babysitters watching what I list now. I could have debated them on how wrong they were, but that isn't a option, their opinion is the law forget facts. It's just a dirty company and I am so done. I am currently looking for another outlet to sell my stuff, Etsy has gone to the sewers!
Etsy now takes 23% from 100% of my sales
I'm closing my store now, after 12 years.
Etsy silently poached my store and when it hit the $10,000 mark they began offloading the extra 12% from Every Stinkin' sale. It's illegal and they will pay.
I opened an Etsy shop approximately 9 months ago. A friend, who had been doing business with Etsy for several years, helped me to open the shop and helped me to list the items I wanted in my shop. Recently, my shop was shut down. Even though Etsy claimed to have sent me an e-mail, they did not. They sent that e-mail to my friend. She has violated Etsy policy. Because her IP address was used to log into my shop, Etsy not only shut her down, they shut me down too. I contacted Etsy and only received automated responses from Etsy legal. I question if they actually have employees in that department as I would send a message stating that I had never received an e-mail from them and did not have any associated shops. The response was always "check the e-mail we sent to you for the information'. I would reply "I didn't get an e-mail from you" and the response was "check the e-mail we sent to you for the information". I think the respondent is either a computer or a terribly lazy employee. After getting nowhere with legal, I filed a dispute with Etsy. The note I received after the dispute was filed said that someone would be in touch with me when my dispute was reviewed by the legal staff. I went into the dispute center to check the status of my dispute and guess what? The dispute was marked "Complete" and I NEVER received any communication at all from Etsy. In addition, they are holding my last pay for 6 MONTHS AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! I guess they can scam some interest $ on my money for the next 6 months. My items were custom made and nothing could be returned after 30 days so there was no reason to hold my money for 6 months! Etsy has also taken money from seller's bank accounts without authorization (see google search for February 22,2019) and it appears they are now skimming money from the top of sellers accounts. Sellers are setting a minimum charge for Etsy services and Etsy is over charging those folks by a penny or so each time they provide the service (which is multiple times a day). With hundreds of thousands of sellers, they are making a killing stealing from their sellers! Etsy is the most unethical company I have every had the non-pleasure of working with. This business is a cesspool of unethical behavior and unscrupulous business practices. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
I ordered a leica case on the 18th of Jan 2019. Been almost 2 months now and they have not dispatched the item neither have they give me an explanation on the delay..
I've been buying on Etsy since 2013 and I just opened my own shop on there last year. I would highly recommend buying on Etsy, but if you are a seller please be aware Etsy will nickel and dime you to death and will make it difficult to get your items seen if you don't pay for their "promoted" listings. They charge you a fee for shipping (even though YOU pay for shipping to customers yourself and Etsy has nothing to do with it!) a fee for each of your for listings and of course they take a percentage of the sale. Now there is a tax that shows up when you make sales to certain states. In the last year they started a campaign where they promote "free shipping" seller's listings above all others- basically ensuring that the sellers that already sell mass quantities continue to get prime spots in the search and those of us that have to charge for shipping (because we are single-person operations and cannot afford to offer free shipping...) get knocked to the bottom of the listing feed. This has taken my daily clicks on items from 30-40 a day to zero some days since the change. It's so disheartening after all the work I put into my shop. Customer service is extremely friendly and empathize when you have an issue, but their hands are tied and they have no real power to change anything. Etsy will also hold your money for days- sometimes more than a week after sale! If you are counting on the sale money to be able to ship the item then you end up risking an unhappy customer who has to wait- just because Etsy can't immediately deposit your funds for no reason at all. (And thanks to Amazon most customers EXPECT their item to be sent immediately and arrive in two days... even though that is completely unreasonable to expect from a seller who is doing this as a side job!) It used to be a great site to buy quality handmade artisan goods, but now it seems like anything goes... most of the listings are just wholesale items from China. If Etsy could try to make more of an effort to return to its craftsy/artsy roots and encourage sellers instead of making it so difficult for them to succeed it would be nice, but as with most of these corporations... I won't hold my breath. I'm working on building my own site for future sales so I won't be put out of business by greedy corporate fees by Etsy.
Purchased aquarium plants on Etsy shop Planterest. Item never shipped. Poor customer service from planterest and Etsy. Only got refund after disputed charge with bank. Beware no phone numbers to call thwir venders. Its very risky to buy anything in here.
I ordered some stickers for a friends birthday. I looked for a sticker seller with great reviews and I ordered the stickers. Shipping took longer than expected as apparently since I ordered on the weekend it wasn't marked as a real order till a week later when I messaged them about it. So after a week my package has finally just been shipped. It takes approximately three weeks to get at my house for two stickers. Nonetheless, my friend was very happy about her stickers as it was of her favorite bands. So even if the seller has great reviews there's always some problems.
I opened a shop and listed 47 items. I sold three things right away to the tune of about $110. After a few days the funds were not available to transfer. I spoke to them and they said the funds would be available that day but it never happened. The problem for me is that it can take 5 days after the request for funds to get the money so I figured, including weekends, it would be about 10 days from the sale date to get the money. I'm sure they spell all this out in their policies and many people will side with them because I didn't read them entirely before doing business with them. That's fine if you want to miss the point you have every right to do so. I don't do business with companies that hold my funds. That's just how I roll.
Ordered the mens Tungston wood wedding ring. The instructions were quite helpful in gaining the right sizing before ordering
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
