If I had the option to leave a zero-star review, I absolutely would! My experience with First Key Homes over the past six years has been nothing short of disappointing, and I would never recommend them to anyone. After six years of being a loyal tenant, they made the decision to sell the home I was living in without any prior communication beyond a single certified mail letter. No phone call, no email, no courtesy to inform me directly or discuss my options. The complete lack of transparency and communication was both frustrating and unprofessional. When I reached out to request an extension to properly prepare for my move, they begrudgingly granted me only two additional weeks—at an outrageously high cost. Instead of showing consideration for a long-term tenant, they chose to exploit the situation by demanding an unreasonable amount of money for just two extra weeks of residence. This company lacks integrity, professionalism, and basic human decency. They do not value their residents, only their bottom line. If you are considering renting from them, I strongly urge you to do extensive research before signing anything. Their unethical practices and disregard for tenant well-being make them an absolute nightmare to deal with. Save yourself the frustration, stress, and financial burden—do not waste your time or money with First Key Homes!
I have been a resident with First Key home for 6 years and my recent experience with them was handled poorly. I would not recommend anyone to rent with them, unless you want to be scammed. As a rental property management company they rarely provide repairs to your home, most of the responsibility is on the tenant. Even though you request on the portal for a maintenance request, they will schedule it and then when they get there tell you they can't fix it and you will be charged $105 for the visit. This company is unprofessional and definitely would not recommend them to anyone looking for a quality rental property management company!
They ignore even emergency maintenance requests and will let you go without heat, a/c, running water, hot water, you name it. Contacting a property manager is impossible since they keep the information secret. Calling them means getting a customer service agent in the Philippines who is only able to "escalate" your emergencies to let the local office know. And nothing happens. You are left to rot.
I wish I had never moved into one of their properties. I will avoid them from now on and tell everyone I know not to rent from them.
I am currently a resident without AC in Arizona for the past 13 days. They are fully aware and have yet to contact me on next steps. I cannot get through to anyone, everyone states "I will request a call back", I ask to speak to a supervisor, and they absolutely refused to get me one. Their calls are recorded so I cannot wait if/when it goes to court. Maintenance will not call me back; I have requested a portable at least 5 times. I have 3 young children and dogs. Some of us don't have close support to where I can go and stay. As a property management company, I expected more. I have filed with the BBB, I have given a 5-day notice to repair, and currently seeking a lawyer. Media is going to be my next step very shortly. They have not given me any accommodations or offered.
I rented a home in Georgia online as I was moving there. Got there not even a key.seems it was forgotten about. A total mess photos were from when they bought it. Took many many repairs.we had to stay in a hotel. It was a never ending issue with things falling apart. I put in 60 day notice.pre move out their agent told me it was perfect move in ready! It was spotless.here comes my deposit refund.took out a late fee.it was not late ever.money for a shelf they put up.then tried to hit me money to clean carpet in 2 bedrooms that were not used at all! Impossible to get copies of utility bills as its in their name.after much threatening to take them to court.finally my late fee, carpet fee and shelf fees are being reversed.one thing i can tell you get it all in writing.do not let them take advantage of you.take them to court. Avoid them at all costs!
Customer service = great puppets. Not there fault only doing what told. Great awards for place to work and owners but nothing for great actual homes. Didn't even get to move in. So they got me on legal technology as why they wont give deposit back. Would hate this for a family or someone who is not as fortunate as me on income.
AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE IT IS. It hasn't been two weeks since we go the keys. The day we got our keys I found a 2.5 to 3 inch puddle of water on the floor of the second story bathroom along with the damaged drywall ceiling coming down. The HVAC was clearly broken and they did an extremely subpar job fixing it. It's been not even two weeks and it's out and water is pooling in multiple different places on the system and the pan has water pooling in the pan again … did I mention it hasn't been 2 weeks… the second story where all the bedrooms are is 87 degrees. When you call the "emergency line" (that's a joke) it'll go to some call center and they can't do anything about it. If you lease from this company just expect to be ghosted at every possible turn. They only care about your money and not the homes.
We are good people in a world of greed. They are lazy, and won't fix anything. But if things break, they will come after you. I'm glad I own now, they make renting suck. Like a smart black laddie once told me, you all need Jesus. Something is wrong with you guys. Just because we don't rent anymore, dosent give you the rite to act like children. We don't owe you anything. God bless you evil people. Trying to take aventege of and old laddie.
Despite maintaining a flawless record as a tenant—consistently meeting rent deadlines and caring for the property—I encountered significant issues upon vacating the premises.
I was surprised to find erroneous charges on my final statement, including a duplicated rent payment and an exorbitant $300 fee for trash removal, despite being informed of a $25 charge for this service. Immediately, I sought to address these discrepancies through multiple communication channels.
However, despite numerous requests for assistance, I have received no response. Additionally, when I sought to escalate the issue by requesting to speak with a supervisor, my calls were abruptly terminated.
I would caution prospective tenants against doing any business with this company due to their failure to address legitimate concerns and their apparent indifference towards customer satisfaction. Proceed with caution.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Super unprofessional. They lie to you you, do not call people back, will keep you in a hot house with NO AC in 100 degrees weather in Texas heat. Customer service reps are rude and disrespectful and NO ONE KNOW WHAT THE OTHER DOES! This company will take your money and ignore you after they receive your signed lease. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and RUN from this company!
This company is the worst. It's hard to get in touch wit the local office about problems in the home. 7301 Ashley oaks dr had a pipe bust while we where out of town. Came home to the house flooded. They terminated our lease instead of trying to put us an another home. Da house was deem unlivable, and we Ben having trouble with this company since the first day of move in. When you go to the local office off Kirby and quince they are rude and unprofessional. Since we moved our stuff out they have the house up for rent with out doing the inside. The house had mold, water damage and under tub hell of mold they didn't wanna clean because the said it would cost them to much. Pipes underneath the house back up and they sent someone out to fix it. They gave them the estimate on how much it would cost to fix, they turn it down saying again it cost to much. I have pictures to prove everything I'm saying wit all the emails requesting them to come fix it
***3/13/2024 - I had a local news channel contact me wanting to hear about my personal experience(s) with Firstkey Homes & additional details regarding the mountains of negative reviews!
***3/12/2024 - I guess I have to create yet another bad review, just to get a member of the local office to call me. It's pathetic. Please, before leasing from this company, read the reviews on Google & the BBB, and go join the Facebook page "Firstkey Homes Tenants". My god, some of the stories people have shared about how this company has treated them is just awful. Please do your research & don't become the next victim.
**3/12/2024 - This company is attempting to raise the monthly rent $635 more then what the when I first moved in just 2 years ago. In November 2021, rent was $1845, they are now trying to charge $2480. Keep that in mind when looking to move into a Firstkey Homes owned &/or managed residence.
Horrible experience with this company. Have been a tenant of theirs for roughly 2 years. Maintenance request go unresolved, random harassing fees added to monthly invoices, utilities getting turned off due to non payment on FirstKey's part (utilities remain in their name), etc. I don't even know who my Property Manager is or not do I have a direct point of contact. Do your research before applying for residency with this company, they are border criminal behavior.
Beware! My property manager Jessica is embezzling money in the Jax/Orlando area! Very unprofessional and needs to be fired! Please look over your utility bill! Call the local utility company to get your original bill! I'm supposed to get a credit but I'm calling a lawyer. Get THIEVES LIKE JESSICA OUT!
Impossible to get in touch with management. My wife and I moved in a little over two months ago, and I have not been able to pay rent using the online portal due to fees on the account by past tenants.
I have spent numerous hours on the phone and on hold with first key, and have now been told that he would be removed for the third time.
Anytime you call for assistance with your rental, it puts you through to an off-shore customer support center that usually says it will be 24 to 48 hours before anyone in your local office can reach out.
When the local office finally does reach out, they insist that there's nothing they can do about an issue or just pass you off to another department.
My wife and I have still not been able to get the key tar mailbox, or receive an email at our address.
Absolutely disgraceful customer service and ethics for this company.
Date of experience: August 01,2023
We rented with the first key for 3 years. Every year they would increase our rent for more then 200 $ each time. They never provided us with the hurricane home shutters and when the Yen broke 2 windows completely they said it's our responsibility to install new and then finally replaced them like 7 months after. They AC was old in the house and we had to stay with no Ac for weeks and no heat in the winter. Slow to respond to fix anything but fast to take money and charge you for the service the landlord should pay provide to renters free Very awful never again we deal with them
I would give zero stars if I could! Do not even waste your time and money with this company. They are the worst! Customer service is incompetent, maintenance requests are cancelled and you're not even contacted about it, the utility billing is posted late and then you end up paying double for the following month. Absolutely unacceptable service!
We have been without ac almost a week. It's super Hot in here 100 degrees
I have called and called and called and same response nothing has been done. We have a newborn and a elderly in this house in oxygen. We always pay on time and I don't understand why they would do this to us. What human can do this. We are in Houston weather our rent goes up but don't gets done. This will definitely be our last year here
They don't care about their tenants. Hopefully my husband can handle another night here. We don't have money for a hotel.
I issued prior notification to First Key's office on 3/1/24 that my lease would not be renewed and terminated on the lease ending date and that the move out would commence and complete on 5/14/24. I did my due diligence and issued that notice more than 60 days before the lease termination. I am legally bound to give only one notice in the state of Georgia. On May 1st, 2024 I called in because their office neglected to adjust my account accordingly with the prorated rent for the month of May 2024. I never received any calls from their office scheduling a move out inspection as stated would be done in the lease agreement, so I will have to assume that they did not update the termination date on my account. I have since received notification that First Key has charged me for the full month of May 2024 rent, some sort of insufficient notice fee, and the month of June 2024 rent. I requested to receive, in writing, from their office that they have cleared those balances from my account immediately. I requested to receive this notice by 6/7/2024, or I would have no choice but to go to court where I will sue for Declaratory Relief and ask the court to make a judgement that I am not liable for any money due after the rightful termination of my lease with your company. I submitted a BBB complaint to help enforce my request and resolution with First Key. To date, I have not received a resolution. Be wary of First Key and their move out tactics.
Dirty property and multiple broken features that they would not repair. Could never speak to a real person. Upon renewal, they increased rent by $200 and would not negotiate. Any other option is better.
Carrie worked so hard to help us get our lease signed...we were having issues by no fault of FirstKey, it was our mistake and she answered emails late at night, called me back first thing in the morning. We talked and talked trying to get our issue taken care of and she did it! We are signed sealed and delivered! I would give her a 10 star review if that was an option! Cant wait to move into our new home! Thank you!
This is the worst rental company! Two days after we moved in to our rental house the plumbing exploded! Pictures included as evidence. They did not respond to our messages or send a cleaning crew for 2 days! We had to beg them to replace the carpet and we continued to have problems with the house the entire time we were there. They would come out to inspect the damage (roof leaked, additional plumbing issues and lawn issues.) but they would not fix the problems. They are the absolute worst. Do not rent from them.
Answer: Impossible. They do not respond to your emails or voice message (and they never answer the phone)...that's even true if they contact you first. I received an email about my move out inspection. I responded. They didn't show up, nor did they return my 3 emails or 3 voice messages. Moved out without being allowed to attend the inspection. Then they charged me for stuff I'd already paid to have done. That's how they steal from you.
