“Secured a 100% Work-from-home Marketing Manager Position”

NATASHA T.
4/12/19

By joining FlexJobs, I was able to find a 100% work from home position as a Marketing Manager in the US for a global tech company headquartered in Belgium. It has been a wonderful experience and the perfect match for my expertise. Without FlexJobs, there's no way I would have found this opportunity on my own. I highly recommend paying the minimal subscription cost if you are serious about finding legitimate flexible positions - many with benefits!

The jobs were very diverse and I appreciated the available filters to cut down the list of those that might more closely align with what I was searching for.

Great resource. Few leads, in other words few companies ever got back to me once I applied, but I think that is just the difficult job arena in general.

Reason I chose this business:

Great remote jobs selection.

Good experience but You didn't have every job that I could find on LinkedIn or Indeed. On job applications, there was not a Flexjobs option when asked about where I found the job listing when I did apply using Flexjobs.

Reason I chose this business:

Easy to use and had remote work options.

FINAL UPDATE: I did contact flexjobs for a refund to my subscription, which they agreed to. Just wasn't working for me.

UPDATE: So, it's been a month now. I've applied for a couple positions and the employers did send me the "sorry but you didn't get the job" email. I get that because you can't win them all. What surprised me was the sheer number of applicants. One employer told me more than 1000 people applied while another relayed that over 2000 people applied - for one job. What this tells me is that flexjobs is making money while its 'customers' have very little chance of landing a job given the sheer number of applicants for each posted position.

I joined a week ago. And yes, that really isn't enough time to gauge whether in the long run the site is worth it. But, initial indicators are negative. I've been contacted by one of flexjobs clients with an email made to appear as if the owner of the company was reaching out to me. When I replied, some CSR replied. Just gives the wrong impression. I've also been contacted by another client of flexjobs that pays a very low wage. So I guess if you want to work from home and earn very little money, this may be the site for you.

Hi, John. Thank you for your review, and we’re glad to hear that you’re getting contacted by employers! It sounds like you have a strong skill set, and therefore, yes, employers might try to reach out to you even though you might not be interested in their positions. Not a bad problem to have. Additionally, we do stand behind our satisfaction guarantee, so if you are still feeling that this is not the right fit, please reach out to discuss having that honored. The FlexJobs Team.

If you want an objective, accurate of this website and its content from a current subscriber (and an experienced recruiter) read on:

The primary reason for the two star rating is that although the user interface is good, the job assistant and personal assessment / skills tests are good and interesting, the website falls short of delivering quality, desirable, 100% telecommuting jobs. Rather, if you perform a job search that returns only 100% telecommuting jobs (which is the prime reason most of would likely join this website) it removes about 50% of the jobs database (at least last time I ran a check). Included in these results, mind you, are temporary, freelance, contracted, seasonal, short-term, etc. So if you subtract those along with "questionable" employers, you are really left with little to choose from. Now there are several legitimate employers and some fortune 500 & 100 companies on the website, but the type of jobs are limited to technology and medical administration. Part of this is, I'm sure, is that employers are not too employee-friendly right now and probably not offering many telecommuting positions. I will say the website appears as though it was developed to genuinely assist its users in finding jobs, it's just the quality of the jobs reduces the site's effectiveness and interest - at least from my point of view..

Client S. – FlexJobs Rep

Dear Susan,

Thank you for your response. You are correct, our site is not exclusively dedicated to 100% telecommuting jobs... nor do we claim to be. When I started the site, my intention was to offer jobs that fit outside of the traditional, full-time, 9-5, on-site job. My reasoning was that people want work flexibility for many different reasons, and since telecommuting isn't the only kind of work flexibility, I wanted to to include other types as well (such as flexible or alternative schedules, part-time jobs, and freelance/contract opportunities).

From our surveys, our users have told us that this is in line with what they want, as well (http://www.flexjobs.com/blog/post/flexjobs-survey-why-people-want-telecommuting-and-flexible-work/):

* People really want work-life balance, and this can be helped with work flexibility. The number one factor for wanting a flexible job is Work-Life Balance (79%), followed by Family (59%), Commute Stress (45%), Time Savings (41%), Cost Savings (40%), Health (26%), Environmental (24%), Exercise (24%)

* Work flexibility can be achieved in different ways. Although telecommuting is often used as centerpiece of work flexibility (and it’s true — 80% want jobs that allow them to telecommute primarily), 50% are open to jobs that allow for partial telecommuting. 50% are interested in part-time schedules, 48% are interested in alternative or flexible schedules 50%, and 41% are open to freelance contracts.

While this might not have been what you wanted in our site, I do think it's worth pointing out that we make it clear (on our home page and beyond) that we are not a 100% telecommuting job site.

Finally, I want to correct two of your statements:

One, that we have "questionable" employers. This is absolutely not true. We go to great lengths to hand-screen every single job and employer on our site for legitimacy, and we do not permit "questionable" employers on the site. Our site is ad-free, and scam-free.

Two, and a follow up, to say that we have only "several legitimate employers and some fortune 500 & 100 companies on the website, but the type of jobs are limited to technology and medical administration" and that "you are really left with little to choose from" is simply completely inaccurate. Currently, we have over 19,700 jobs on the site, representing 3900 employers (this number is always listed in the top right of our home page), and these jobs range from over 50 career categories, entry-level to executive.

I invite anyone to review our Top 100 employers with telecommuting job postings from 2013 -- http://www.flexjobs.com/blog/post/100-top-companies-for-remote-jobs/ -- and to review our over 50 career categories with flexible jobs (you can sort by telecommuting jobs, as well as use the Advanced Search Option to further clarify the level of telecommuting you want) -- http://www.flexjobs.com/jobs.

Finally, we always offer a satisfaction guarantee, so if you weren't satisfied (which it sounds like you weren't), I encourage you to email (feedback at flexjobs dot com) or call our client services (866-991-9222) and request a refund.

Best regards,

The Flexjobs website has been very helpful in locating jobs that match my skills and desire to work from home. I have been looking and applying for jobs for 2 years. Resume is updated and a tailored cover letter is created for each application. Several of the applications progressed to the interview/testing phases but none have resulted in a job offer. Thank you lettered were sent after each interview. For one employer, United Health Group, I have actually submitted 12 applications with none resulting in an interview. My skills as a data analyst match the job requirements for these jobs very closely and Flexjobs shows many opportunities for UHG with, I think 25-30% of their employees work remotely. It comes down to my feeling that companies will not hire a person that is 71 years old even though I want to work 5 years or more. So... I am stopping my job searching and perusing other options for generating income - all of them legal. I want to thank Flexjobs for providing a very useful service for locating remote jobs.

I signed up with the FlexJobs service to try to find a flexible remote position that would enable me to work according to my schedule. I had no idea at the outset that FlexJobs had so many local, national and international employers with so many options for full time, part time, alternate and/or flexible schedule, contract and freelance work available. I was able to perform searches under multiple categories including region, job type, schedule desired and search out the top employers in my field. The site also offers a slew of tips on everything from resume writing to time management to setting up your home office efficiently. It is an extremely well-organized site with hundreds of positions being offered in every field you can think of from reputable employers. I was incredibly impressed with their Skill Testing option which allows you to take tests of your primary skills and records your scores for viewing by potential employers. Needless to say, I found the flexible job I was looking for (a telecommuting position) and I can't say enough about FlexJobs to express my gratitude for opening my eyes to the different options available to working in the world today. Signing up with FlexJobs was worth every penny of the subscription!

I learned of FlexJobs while conversing with a Lyft driver about my desire to find legitimate telecommute work to maintain a stay at home mom role while also utilizing my professional qualifications. I was somewhat skeptical, especially after learning a fee was associated, but after so many positive reviews and success stories, I decided to give them a try. While deciding what type of subscription I wanted to try, I was offered a discounted rate that also came along with a money back guarantee for dissatisfaction. I originally joined in March for a 3 month subscription, and ended up renewing for an additional three months. The site is easy to navigate and provides immense resources and tips on how to increase opportunities for employment. I was able to find two long-term contract positions that pay well, and permit me to fully utilize my professional competencies. I am beyond impressed and so elated that I gave the site a try! I encourage anyone interested in flexible jobs to give them a try!

We wish you continued success and happiness with your new contracts. The FlexJobs Team

I was recently laid off by my past employer in March and immediately started searching for a new role. While doing internet searches for a telecommuting job as a Business Development Director, I found FlexJobs and decided to try it out. I paid for a month subscription and created two profiles for the type of work I hoped to find. At the time, I was also relying heavily on Indeed and LinkedIn searches for job leads. After creating my profiles on FlexJobs, I immediately received job suggestions (something FlexJobs sends out daily). The jobs and companies I found through the site were great - I applied to about a dozen or so awesome openings with good organizations in the first 2-3 weeks. FlexJobs quickly became my primary search tool versus the other sites. I interviewed with a half dozen companies that responded but narrowed that down to three "finalists" within a month. After several more interviews with those three companies, I had 2 job offers and actually had to pull myself out of a final interview in another state because I accepted one of the other offers.
I found FlexJobs to be an invaluable resource in my job search, particularly for telecommuting positions. It's easy to use, effective, and the search features yielded relevant job leads that interested me. I ended up paying about $40 for two months' subscription to the site and found an awesome position making thousands more per year with a company I am excited to join. Highly recommend this site!

Business History

In 2007, FlexJobs founder and CEO - Sara Sutton - was looking for something better after losing her full-time job. She was already seven months pregnant with her first child and needed something that was going to be flexible but still help further her career. Sara knew these jobs existed but was overwhelmed trying to find them. That’s when the idea for FlexJobs came: A site where job seekers could find professional-level, legitimate work-from-home jobs, all in one place, without the ads, scams or junk found on other sites.
