I originally chose hostgator because I thought it could do all that I wanted. Over the course of time that I have been using hostgator I have learned that maybe it isn't doing all that I want.

I have been with HG for years. Last few years have been horrible. I can't access any of my sites for edit, and most of the actions on cpanel result in errors!

Most of all because of its performance and the freedom it grants users to organize their sites as they deem fit

Already using - just setup a new account and transferred because it was cheaper. Not a good way to keep loyal customers

HostGator has change in the hands of ownership several times and living through those transitions, have become progressively worse. For My Example: Cost of services - they bait & hook you, nice at first to get you all set up. Then the relationship turns harsh. Like a pimp to a hooker. Rates went up, (Not justified by Covid or some other B.S. Excuse- it's pure greed) and services support went down.
HostGator has made numerous changes in account management with failed notice to their customers; in addition, they use their customers as unpaid staff to help to iron out all the bugs for those new changes when they don't work. I'm exhausted of being forcefully enrolled into HostGator's public lab experiments.
HostGator's IT change management and rollouts are a complete debacle - and if they can't tell make a smooth transition on their internal & billing systems, then how could I not question the validity of services? Makes me wonder about infrastructure too- I wonder if they have their webservers physically located in a rural area in a grass hut above a running body of water.
Now HostGator is squeezing customers for more money- torque the bolts on billing even further by incrementally breaking down each service so they can micro bill standard bundled services. Nothing but a money grab.
Never looked for a new vendor, but at this point of billing failure, it is a wake up call and I started looking for alternatives.
Note to self: I wished I had looked years ago; I misplaced trust in HostGator to treat me as a valued customer. I'm working to relocate all my services - surgically remove this HostGator parasite.
If considering HostGator for services, I urge to expand your search to review and compare other alternative services. In my experience, will save tons of headaches, hours of phone support cleaning up the messes HostGator will create for you and will greatly impact you and your business. Not to forget to mention, becoming fleeced by non justifiable rising costs for same services. Lastly, save you from the piss poor customer support services. My cat can give better IT support.- and - I don't own a cat.
Tip for consumers:
Think Twice before considering HostGator for hosting services. There's much better services available for less money, better uptime and less hassle.

Too Many AUto Renewals, so many in fact, I have no clear idea what is legit, or what HostGator simply wants to make $$$$
WE ARE A VERY SMALL NON-PROFIT... THEY DON"T CARE...!
No one Cares to determine, Most Effective Cost, Path Forward.

Since the upgrade to the new system, I have lost all of my soil site files, your service is absolutely atrocious

Because my husband has been with you for years. And the nice employee who helped me initially was great... I had been paying 30 bucks a month even though I rarely made 30 bucks in a month
That was in the end of july... since then we've tried over and over to get it to work but my website has been DOWN since switching to your service... www.Scott-Shots.com
After paying... (although I was supposed to get a month free), my website transferred to you but I still can't get to it to get my page back up.
I tried your little chat bubble, and the technician whom I'm guessing was new, tried to help me for just over an hour... before realizing he didnt even understand what I was saying, so he was going to send me up to level 2... he told me to please wait for a level 2 technichian. At almost exactly an hour after that... your system disconnected me and no one got back to me afterward.
Then I tried answering an email you sent me saying "how is it going"? And telling them there what the problems I was having... still no response.
I tried sending a message on facebook... still no reply.
So basically, after 2½ months... my website is STILL down and no one will answer me.
That's why 1 star out of 5.

You are usually very good with customer support.very polite and also easy to contact via chat
Guys I always have a good experience with hotsgator support but in this case you $#*! the bed. The story begins some time last year when my ISP announced it would not give email anymore. I contacted hotsgator and asked to change this email address, to wish you said no. So imagine my surprise when I try to log into my account one day and MFA is on. And then I had to jump through a 1000 hoops to change the primary email. For which the support was really bad. They would ask for a doc I'd send it and they would reply after 3 days that something is wrong.and believe this is the short story.

I was led to believe that the telephone support I paid extra for, also included help with WordPress. Plus I wasn't told that I would be on a shared server.

You guys have turned HORRIBLE! Ive been with you over 6 years and one time I bought 3 domain names and you FLAGGED ME for suspicious activity, blocking all my websites. I had to deal with HORRIBLE customr service in India where I had to send pictures of my bank statements - and one hand did not know what the other was doing - you guy really angered me
On Marhc 22 2024, all of my websites were locked. Unbeknownst to me, you changed the billing period to 3 months instead of the 1 year renewal - so i wake up to have my websites locked! I tried calling your phone number and your phnone menu SUCKS! Furthermore, all your Hostgator emails go TO SPAM - you only gave 1 day notice of renewal!
You guys were good but now you guys are HORRIBLE! Ive been a good customer for 6 years and when you blocked my account, you caused a lot of frustration - you treated a loyal customer like CRAP!
I am now in the process of transfering my domains away from you. HORRIBLE

Terrible change to portal. It requires extra clicks to do the same thing as before. Type name on one page, then password on 2nd page, then phone code on third page, then your irritating garbage shoving $4.99 sale offer EVERY bloody time, to click on Continue to get to the main page, THEN click on Email, then click on top option and click on Check, then scroll and click on email address, then click on Check Email, then scroll and click on Box Trapper, then click review, then click on,... NIGHTMARE UX. HORRIBLE.

Inexpensive hosting. Now my shared server Wordpress site is broken because it has taken over 2 years to upgrade to the latest PHP version.

I feel duped. I understand that HostGator is responsible for the hosting of sites on their infrastructure, however, you offer services for building, like WordPress and by extension plugins involved with them. One would think that anything hosted on your infrastructure would need to be clean and without potential issue, but when one does arise, you want us to pay even more to fix it. For example: I was having issues with my site, and in all of my research I determined that it would be a server memory thing and to contact support. I did just that and was told that I had malware, that I need to purchase sitelocker for future protection and that it would cost $50 if I wanted the malware cleaned since it was already in my files. I purchased the sitelocker protection and immediately ran a scan. Oddly, no malware was found, but the issues on my site remained. I'm not sure that I want to pay $50 for HostGator to clean an issue that doesn't exist only for the root issue to continue to be present. The hosting is fine. The customer service is so very frustrating. I will keep the service because moving my site(s) are a huge pain, but I cannot in good conscience recommend the service.

I hate the new manmagement as I can not see the name servers easily and have to dig for each plan wherebefore I could and I hate the new reseller plans because nothing is setup and nothign works as it used to. I have managed ot semi get the last one that I bought to semiwork but is crap and seriosuly thing if I have to move that plan and any new plan to a new provider. I have no time to spedn to understand how to setup reseller accounts etc and make sure that everything is there. Before everytng was ready for me and had to jsut focus on my business.
