“Consistent & Great”

Laura L.
2/8/24

I host two business websites (www.ShopLenus.com www.lld-landscape-design.com) with Hover for over 5 years now and they have been helpful with every single tiny thing I needed, even if the problem related to Apple computer, they had no problem helping out. The last call had a little longer wait time, but still a normal human being answered and she solved my DMARC problem right there. No chat bots, no nonsense, not sending you to 'help articles', so down to earth. Highly recommend them as a host.

“Expensive and inflexible”

Rene B.
2/5/24

Already more expensive than most competitors this company shows their true face when you things go wrong. Having had a domain with them for nearly 10 years, the renewal failed of the xmas period due to a card expiring. By the time I noticed and wanted to renew they slapped a 127 euro extra charge on a domain that costs me 30 euro per year. I divested myself of their services right there and then and will never trade with them again.

They offer privacy services, minimal up selling, a clean UI, and haven't sniped any domain names from under me before unlike some of the bigger players. Always do your research but they definitely are a registrar to consider trying out. I've been using them for years with no problem so far.

Tip for consumers:
Be cautious like with all online services and take your time.

Have been dealing with their terrible spam filter (which you can't turn off) for several years now, moving legitimate emails (from apple.com, pca.org, etc) This company is complete junk as they will do nothing to stop it from happening and their only reply is to "mark as not spam" "Put sender in your contacts", which I've done HUNDREDS of times, to no avail. They own all of the domains so there is no way to take my email address to another provider. They are incompetent and just don't care.

Don't let the nice site design fool you. Judge a domain company by their service. My first was awful - They don't refund and don't rectify. It's my policy to stay away from companies who do not consider long-term value of their clients in lieu of short robotic responses. Auto-renewals are automatic on every service - no matter what-watch your money and choose Godaddy for better service - and Google Domains for clean / worry-free design.

I have a Hoover steam stream (TM) which replaced my $20 Flea market floor steamer purchase ~ 1.5 years ago. I have tried 'everything' to get this machine to do a good job on my floors without success. This included calling the Hoover 1 800# for HELP No luck there either! If you have extremely low expectations then this machine could be for you. However, if you expect at the very least marginal performance from your purchase then save your money or try another brand. Absolutely no value for $$$ with this Hoover.

I actually clicked on the email from Hover and went to their website and created a password but evidently could not find the information of how to pay them. Then I find my website gone from the internet and find no notice from Hover that I missed a deadline. I could not get onto my account using my password that I wrote down from that earlier visit, but am able to go onto their Help page which replies back on Feb. 7 telling me if I pay them by the Feb. 7 deadline $175 plus $17, I can get my domain back. For over 10 years my domain has renewed just fine. Hover should continue sending notices and make their website clear enough that a person can access their domain's account to update their payment.

Tip for consumers:
Stay on hover.com until you figure out how to pay them.

Zero stars. After being a customer for 20 years, going back to the old NetIdentity site, they've screwed their security procedures down so tight, email is unusable from 99% of the 'net. They use a spam service that identifies the entire internet as spam suspects. I'm going elsewhere. Customer service shrugs "that's the way it works"

I can't get hold of anyone at this company. Live chat is unresponsive and no body answers the phones during standard operation hours.

If i could, I would sue them for bad customer service!

But what I will do is... I'll move my domains out of this $#*!ty company and hope no one uses them anymore.

I can't access my domains anymore just because I moved and changed my number. They demand I meet a notary! Which would take hours of my time and probably cost hundreds of dollars! This is insane! I've changed my phone number with my banks, passport, health care, cra, Apple ID, Amazon, etc et NOBODY ELSE asked for an insane request like that. I will do everything I can to move all my things out of there asap. I really thought they were a good, different company, I so regret I recommended them to others. So so angry right now!

The email "forward-only" service is now spam filtering an cannot be turned off. It marked Amazon and many other obvious sites as spam. I need to constantly log into hover just to un-mark spam. A forwarding service that spam filters is worthless.

Few days ago I paid for my domain, since minute one it has been trouble. The domain is not in my account and I have no access to the domain. The funds have been taken out of my account and I've tried to contact the customer service multiple times without luck! They just don't respond and close my case.
The domain has been renewed, paid for but not for me!
I'm beyond pissed as a start up to lose money like that! If they do not give me my access or money back I will file a lawsuit there way since I'm not the only one with these issues!

Stay away from this vendor. Little or no value other than hijacking your family's name.

Started off as Nameplanet, respectable organization committed to protecting peoples rights to their on-line presence. Since with Hover, tons of spam, lots of down time and poor service with barely more than automated responses to requests... all while they increase the price. I have a very uncommon family name and they own it. They won't say how many users are signed on for it... just that they own it.

Hover bought Bulkregister and we were notified by Bulkregister about it. We noticed that we did not get any emails from Hover or were contacted at all since the buyout. Couple months later we called them to gain access to our account. By then, they let multiple domains expire without ever contacting us. These were domains that we owned for many years. The value is over $10,000. They did not have a credit card on file. Well, we never were there customer and had access to a account! This is not just horrific business practice but completely unacceptable. Worst Experience Thus Far!

There is no way to create a rule to mark emails as spam. Marking spam emails as spam using hover webmail does nothing to block the same sender from flooding your inbox. I've used hover for many years and disappointed that I'll have to change my email.

I've been 'locked in' with 2 personal email addresses for my wife and myself (*******@surname.com) for more than 15 years.
I have found the service overall to be very poor and the spam filter to dreadful.
Now I discover they must be the cause of most of the recent increase in spam due to a hack, as I have received tailored spam with info only available in my Hover account!

Don't use this company.

They have service outages - and then lie about them.

Moreover, they don't know about deeper issues - until I spend 2+ hours waiting to 'chat' to someone who can't fix any problems and can't provide any update on timing.

Additionally - If you ask for a contact number or to speak to a supervisor - they won't/can't do anything. They will tell you a supervisor will contact you via email in 24 hours - but as their email is down all the time - that won't do you any good!

So, I finally called Hover to try to resolve my issues. I had been trying to work through email, with little success... What a difference when I finally spoke to someone! They were very professional, listened to my issues and amazingly resolved them! The person I spoke with didnt have to check with anyone, or get back to me... he processed the credits and sent me confirmation immediately. It was a very positive experience and while I am still not going to turn on the "auto renew" function any time soon, I no longer feel the need to change my domain registrar. Bravo!

Do Not Use Hover.com's "AUTO RENEW" feature!

I had trouble with Hover(TUCOW) from the beginning with seeking and registering domains, but I was so busy trying to get my new business going. I should have moved my stuff but didnt.
Last year I registered 10 domains with them. Everything was ok until the beginning of this year when a lot of charges started showing up. After review, I discovered they had renewed many of my domains prior to the 12 month mark; From 1 week early (ok), to 1 month early (maybe ok) to 6 months early (absolutely not ok!). There was no method to it, no consistency to the timing, it was absolutely random.

Further; I found I had been double billed (charged two months in a row) for the same domains and was double billed for a small mail box 6 months after signing up for the 12 month service!

So I called them. They have a call back service and 45 mins later I did receive a call back; A robo call which said Im sorry no one is available to take your call" - then it immediately disconnected! WHAT?

I wrote a very detailed email and send it to *******@hover.com. 3 days later I received a response to my email, extremely disappointed.
They neither credited me for the 6 month premature billing of one of the domains nor the several double billings which occured. In fact, here is an excerpt from the email I received:

When it comes to renewals, once the registry has accepted the payment we cannot reverse the order as they have already added the additional time to the domain name. Im having trouble understanding why their error results in me absorbing the cost? NET NET: If you have Auto Renew on your account- I would HIGHLY recommend turning it off so you control when your domains get updated and ensure you dont get double billed.

If you sign up with Hover, expect that several times a year you will either a.) have intermittent email service (which is essentially NO email service); b. The service will be down completely.

This is an ongoing, systemic issue that this company has. I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Their customer service is friendly enough.

I registered a domain name for my company under my real company and personal details using my prepaid debit card and got everything set up as well as my site and email. After 2 days I suddenly received an email from Hover telling me my domain was unregistered and my service cancelled - http://paste.debian.net/*******/ (original email body).
They have provided NO REASON on the cancellation and HAVEN'T NOTIFIED me before the domain removal.

Dear Hover.com representatives, don't offer domain registrations and fully quit the industry if you don't feel comfortable with people that register domains using your registrar!

Tip for consumers:
Highly not recommended if you need a serious registrar and don't want your service suddenly cancelled.

Their backend solutions and web interface are very technically incompetent. You'll have unavoidable downtime when you transfer your domains as you can't set your nameserver or add any DNS records before the domain is fully transferred. Obviously, you'll want to configure your domain so it's ready to go once the transfer goes through.

Stay well clear of these guys! They charge premium prices for an inferior product.

Signed up for a domain name and small email box. Had many problems! Hover/Tucows could NOT get email box to work with any gmail account. Tried business account. Juanita got it to work fine!
Next day tried to log in."invalid" account". Received email that Hover wrongfully established account so it was cancelled. Called in to find out what was going on. Rep sez account was improperly created. He tried to create account. NO GO! Told me it will take about a day. Next day NADA, NOTHING! IN the meantime, my PayPal account is showing 2 additional billings for over $33 for initial account.
Called PayPal... they locked my account. Unauthorized payment!
Not 2 days later. PayPal email states ANOTHER billing on 11/19! How? Account is locked?
Emails back and forth between idiots Managers refuse to believe apertural left by their PayPal transactions.
Referred to FBI IC3.

Tucows is in the process of cannibalizing Hover's assets by selling off domain names. Other former customers claim Hover provided between 10 and 45 days notice of termination of their email contracts. In my case the email address I had for 16 years suddenly stopped working and I only found out they had discontinued my service and deleted all my files after calling customer support. They agreed to refund the money I paid them for the remainder of my lease, but steadfastly refused to compensate me for actual damages. Do not do business with Hover!

I bought two hover boards and carts. One of the hover boards broke and would not turn on after a week and a half. I have sent multiple emails to Hover with no response. They are extremely hard to get a hold of and do not give a phone number to contact. Extremely frustrating and a waste of money!

I was a user when the company still called itself NetIdentity.com. Actually since before that when it was called Mailbank.com. The original service plan was 9.95 for 1 real POP email account, which was advertised as for life.
Since then, company names changed probably with different owners and management. After a few price hikes I've left feeling disappointed by the new pricing and service plans.
From a support standpoint, the company was responsive and responsible and reliable.
For users that want a easy one-stop provider of high-demand custom domains Hover may be for you.
I would suggest however puchasing your own. Com/. Net/. Org domain and buying a hosting service instead for more flexibility. $35/year for a single email may be OK. But I'm certain you can get much more paying just a little more.
