Hover has a rating of 1.9 stars from 67 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Hover most frequently mention customer service, email address, and credit card problems. Hover ranks 145th among Domain Registration sites.
I host two business websites (www.ShopLenus.com www.lld-landscape-design.com) with Hover for over 5 years now and they have been helpful with every single tiny thing I needed, even if the problem related to Apple computer, they had no problem helping out. The last call had a little longer wait time, but still a normal human being answered and she solved my DMARC problem right there. No chat bots, no nonsense, not sending you to 'help articles', so down to earth. Highly recommend them as a host.
Already more expensive than most competitors this company shows their true face when you things go wrong. Having had a domain with them for nearly 10 years, the renewal failed of the xmas period due to a card expiring. By the time I noticed and wanted to renew they slapped a 127 euro extra charge on a domain that costs me 30 euro per year. I divested myself of their services right there and then and will never trade with them again.
I have been using Hover for several years and have been quite satisfied with the service and help function. However, over the last year I have not been able to get any response from Hover help assistance after several emails to the help center. They remain total quiet, and not respond to any of my questions. Over the last year I have sent probably more than 20 help assistance messages, without any response at all. Now, when my account is up for renewal I get almost daily reminders to pay the renewal fee. I recommend all potential new users of Hover to strongly evaluate other options for new email/web server. There are lots of them out there, also free of charge, and not like Hover where you have to pay usd 35 each year just for keeping the email account. Without any response to all my help requests, Hover did shut down my email account today, and consequently I will have no access to my emails and stored data. Please be carefully to enter into an agreement with Hover. What you pay is certainly NOT WHAT YOU GET!
I uploaded all my ID docs when I setup my domain. 4months in they suspended my domain causing my website to be taken down by Google.
On their request I then tried to re-upload my ID docs only for their system to keep producing an error message. Spent over 3hrs on live chat with them where they still couldn't fix the issue. Why is it so hard for them to receive a document. Email, live chat and their website could be an option but yet this isnt the case, my ecommerce website is still donw, useless.
Go with another provider they have terrible reviews all round.
I asked them for a refund for a domain I no longer wanted, they wouldn't give it to me. Also, what kind of broke a-s site doesn't let you change their username? Hover blows. Don't use them.
The "custom" email address is great.
The relatively recent inclusion of IMAP service in the base package is great (they used to charge extra for it).
THEIR UNCONTROLLABLE SPAM FILTER MAKES THEIR SERVICE A HAZARD TO USE.
90% of the email they sort into the spam folder is email I want to see. I flag them all as "Not Spam" and white list the senders, but to no avail.
Having to go rummage through everything in the spam folder is worse than having it in my in box. I still have to look at it, but it is an extra step I must remember to take.
Other than pretending to whitelist senders, they offer no other controls over the spam filter. I would turn it completely off if I could, but I can't.
DON'T USE THIS SERVICE IF SEEING YOUR EMAIL IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.
Tip for consumers:
SPAM filtering is ultra aggressive and uncontrollable

Been a customer for several years, just got an email that they cancel already paid service without reason on X days due to management decision. Seriously?
Hover is absolutely fantastic!
I am totally against SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act. The bottom line is, Go Daddy supported it... until they got grilled by the Internet for doing so. GoDaddy's SOPA support lost them a ton of customers apparently, myself and my friends included, not to mention Wikipedia... This negative response led Go Daddy to eventually take its hat out of the ring, so to speak, choose a position of neutrality, and then do a total reversal. Now, GoDaddy claims they no longer support SOPA. LIES! Hover, on the other hand, never supported SOPA and came out against it before it was cool to do so. Hover is built on OpenSRS and owned by Tucows. Sure, they offer great service at an affordable price. However, what perhaps matters most is they are trustworthy! Even though there are cheaper alternatives out there, you definitely get your money's worth with Hover.
Their DNS management interface is really sweet. Basically, you can edit multiple domains in bulk, or only certain types of entries. Domain privacy is included. Their surname email service is the bomb.
Highly recommend this company and I'm not sure what the negative reviews are about.
A++++!
"It better represents you. It's easier to communicate. You never need to change it. Plus, you can use it with whatever email program you prefer. We can help."
What a bold, misleading and inaccurate statement found on hover web site.
I have used an email account for me and my family for nearly 15 years. Out of nowhere email telling me no longer available and in 9 weeks you will not be able to use the domain. Tough 5hit basically. Read our t&cs. You have no rights we can terminate the contract when we want nothing you can do about it.
Each subsequent provider Mailbank, Netidentity, Tucows and now Hover have been less and less competent but I still renew every year.
Today I receive an email telling me I have 63 days to leave as my email addresses are going to be cancelled. A joke I thought or maybe a fishing email scam trying to get me to reveal personal details. Are you having a ¿@#%ing laugh? What is occurring here? Hace you sold off the domain to a large company?
After the unacceptably short notice period given to migrate and multiply and having been treated this way would you really expect me to transfer to another name only for the same to happen again?
Am happy now as have got own address and am in control of domain not just renting it. Also cheaper as I get 5 emails for the same price as 2 from another website hosting company.
Avoid hover / Tucows see other reviews for reasons and ignore the positive review written by the company themselves.
I Bought and reserved a domain from HOVER! They did not even wait 24 hours, they relisted the domain and removed my account from their server
Now the name I reserved is taken!
Lousy service. No email service for 5 hours today! Avoid them. They also cannot explain why this is happening.

My husband suggested Hover to me. This is the last time I take his business advice. So firstly they won't register my domain. At about the same time I tried registering with netregistry and that went through pretty much straight away.
However before I successfully got a domain with netregistry I tried to register with Hover four times - each time I was encouraged in my online Hover account to keep trying. Each time I received an email saying I would be refunded - by Hover. I have copies of these emails. Also each time I tried again with Hover my credit card available balance went DOWN - they definitely took money from me.
Now I was told by their support that I would receive the money back in '48 hours' and that the transaction had been 'cancelled' and my bank should process that back to my card. My bank said all they can do is cancel my card in case Hover does this to me again. It has been 72 hours now and they STILL have my money. Give me my money Hover! My business isn't even earning me any money yet and they take what little I have, give me NOTHING for my money and refuse to refund my money despite promising to do so IN WRITING.
My credit card had been compromised so I had to cancel it and apply for a replacement. My annual fee for the email address I had registered with Hover was due and I soon got an email that Hover had attempted to charge my credit card and failed. I emailed *******@hover.com to ask for either a deferment of the payment or if there was another way I could pay. They didn't get back to me and just cancelled my email address. I had the email address with them for over twenty years and I had also been registering domains with them for nearly as long. Loyalty and a long history of making payments on time are obviously not important considerations to them.
So now I was minus a credit card and minus my email address which I use for work - I'm a contract software engineer. I couldn't see if any other automated charges to my credit card were failing as the notifications would have gone to that email address. Hover did absolutely nothing until I was finally able to get a replacement credit card, which took more than a week, enter the new card's details in my Hover account and renew the registration of my email address.
The excuse from Hover was that their emails requesting assistance were backed up. Unfortunately, their automated processes, eg the one that cancels registrations, weren't backed up so Hover is obviously keener to get rid of customers than to assist them in making payments. Not a particularly smart strategy I would have thought.
Just as a comparison. My monthly payment to my Internet provider was also rejected. However I was able to rectify this by going into my account, bringing up the failed transaction, and clicking on a button saying "defer payment for 14 days". Now THAT is a smart company that is keen to keep its customers.
Hover is a fraud company. Just take my payment and don't giving me access to my domain and also don't responding to my emails.
Terrible services. The downtime % of my site. Is ridiculous. Stay away if you need a reliable hosting service!
TLDR:
Hover.com lost our account, lost our domains, and created an accounting nightmare. Avoid at all costs.
Everything. Hover.com has been an absolutely nightmare to work with and our team only worked with them for less than 10 days before the nightmare started. We have over 1,000+ domains in our domain portfolio, managing a variety of domains for a number of different types of businesses. An employee recommended Hover.com after hearing about them to diversify our registrar portfolio.
At the 10+ day mark we attempted to login to our account to purchase additional domains, at that point we couldn't login. Password resets weren't sent to our email, account ID's weren't either. After waiting 25 minutes to talk to a live chat representative we were told that another department had to deal with the issues surrounding our account and they'd send us an email the next day.
The next day rolls around, we login to our account and NONE of the domains were in our account. This required another 10 minute wait for a live chat representative. At that point he tracked down a PORTION of the domains that were paid for and registered, the other domains that were missing simply weren't registered. Mind you we have receipt confirmation, our credit card was billed, and the domains were in our account after initially registering and paying for them.
This then led to a discussion around payments rendered, refunds processed, and additional unauthorized charges on our credit card. He couldn't resolve the billing issue and told us to "keep checking our statements" for the additional, excess charges, to be refunded.
Worst of all? The domains we were billed for, and charged, have since been registered somewhere else and cannot be registered any longer. One of which is a four-figure domain, gone!
There has been zero communication from the Hover team throughout this ordeal and the live support has been nothing but lackluster and unhelpful. We'll be filing a dispute with ICANN, and may look at other legal avenues surrounding the domains registered, paid for, and fraudulently removed from our accounts.

Do you wonder why you can't even sign up for the site? You MUST buy a domain first BEFORE you transfer? Otherwise it's gone? BEWARE
Hover is an amazing, ethical, cheap domain name registration service. Their prices are realistic and fair, their services are easy to use and understand, and customer service is amazing. In my experience, they're the best out of all domain name registration services. I couldn't be happier! I love the way they handle domains!
I switched over last month from my old registrar who did things like put 60-day locks on my domain names or spammed me with advertisements constantly. For example, the prices at my old registrar seemed low but all of the hidden fees kept stacking up. For example, their. Coms were really cheap, but private registration was an extra $9.99 yearly, making the total costs to me around $20. Hover's. Coms are only $15 and private registration is included free. It can easily be turned on and off via Hover's intuitive GUI.
Hover's website is easy to use and free of annoying, flashy, spammy advertisements unlike the big, popular, misleading registrar. Hover's checkout process is simple and easy and they don't try to constantly push additional products along the way.
Hover is amazing. The prices are realistic, fair, and direct. There are no hidden fees. Also, for those who are curious, people may often ask how to buy a domain name through Tucows. To buy a Tucows domain, go through Hover.com since Hover is Tucows' personal front. It's all OpenSRS anyway.
I discovered Hover from a Yahoo! Answers post linking to http://www.hovercoupon.com/ which had a 10% off hover.com coupon code, HONEST, and a lot of really useful information.
Switching was really easy but remember to disable private registration at your previous registrar first or all sorts of Hell can break loose. =/
