“Consistent & Great”

Laura L.
2/8/24

I host two business websites (www.ShopLenus.com www.lld-landscape-design.com) with Hover for over 5 years now and they have been helpful with every single tiny thing I needed, even if the problem related to Apple computer, they had no problem helping out. The last call had a little longer wait time, but still a normal human being answered and she solved my DMARC problem right there. No chat bots, no nonsense, not sending you to 'help articles', so down to earth. Highly recommend them as a host.

“Expensive and inflexible”

Rene B.
2/5/24

Already more expensive than most competitors this company shows their true face when you things go wrong. Having had a domain with them for nearly 10 years, the renewal failed of the xmas period due to a card expiring. By the time I noticed and wanted to renew they slapped a 127 euro extra charge on a domain that costs me 30 euro per year. I divested myself of their services right there and then and will never trade with them again.

I've used Hover for all my personal sites and client sites for the past 8 years and have never had an issue. They are the best pricing and most intuitive interface in comparison to other domain registrars we have used. Honestly baffled by the negative reviews because we've never had an issue and always recommend them to our clients.

I have been with Hover for three years now, two domains + emails, SquareSpace website builder. I have no complaints at all. My email is as fast as Gmail or Hotmail, I have never experienced an outage. Customer service is fine, Americans or Canadians speaking clear English and understanding what I say to them... my #1 issue with EVERY company I deal with. I didn't really company prices so I can't comment on that. I give them 5 stars.

As many here probably know, network solutions (in my experience) is horrible, so we switched our many (15+) domains to hover. The process was as painless as it could be, live people pick up the phone, they are very helpful and knowledgeable. They have a valet service - for free where they will transfer your domains for you.
Thier web site is easy to use, they dont try to upsell you every 5 seconds, While I cant speak for the other people that had problems with them. That has not been my experience at all - quite the opposite.

Hover has some of the worst service I have received, after rebranding the company from "Enom" to Hover, I didn't notice the change over email and hover emails were going to my spam folder... When they transferred, they didn't transfer my payment information over, didn't phone me to notify they had changed it or that my domain was going into redemption due to this fact...

Now I have to pay $250 US which they refuse to reimburse because they wouldn't stand by their "auto renew" feature which clearly didn't auto renew because of their own actions.

I dealt with a woman, "Lei" she said her name was, when asked to speak to someone in management, she put me on hold for 15 more minutes, then informed me that nobody could speak with me currently and that they would e-mail me to confirm a phone call at a later date (which of course, I still have not received).

Awful service guys, wake up.

Hover cancelled some mailboxes that were not being used by a customer, even though that customer had ordered these and paid for them (and planned to use them in the future). They reallocated the space from the cancelled emails to those emails that were not being used, but that is not what the customer wanted or needed. Unbelievable that a company would just do this, as though they could read minds. They did reverse the move after the complaint, but a company is supposed to have your back, not make you have to watch your back.

Hover.com took over the domains from VistaPrint and I'm pretty sure this is a scam. When you log in to Hover, the entire customer portal is COMPLETELY BLANK! I am really worried that my domain will be lost.

I had a problem with a domain renewal so I wrote them an email. It took them over a week to answer it. Meanwhile, I called them and the person who answered wasn't of any help at all and sounded depressed. Just terrible all around. STAY AWAY.

I would give ZERO STAR if i could. They automatically renew your domain even if you have cancelled it. I CANNOT believe it! And i called customer service to complain, but the representative on the phone was like "at this point, i cannot do anything about it." he repeated that statement 3 times! It was not pleasant talking to him on monday morning. DO NOT SIGN UP!

For over 4 days, I can no longer send email - receiving works. I've been with Hover for around 25 years, when they were still called Mailbank. Customer service now is terrible, they pick up your request, then ask for full access right to your mailbox, with a lame excuse/reasoning that they need to investigate - nothing happens. Maybe some dude sits somewhere in a dark room reading through my mails? I darn it want to be able so send my mail again, why have I paid you for decades and once I need something we get nothing. Terrible company, and if it wouldn't be for my *******@lastname.com Email address, I would have given you the boot already!

I got dumped onto Hover by eNom. I have no idea why they did this, but nothing has worked since the transfer. I tried to update a simple TXT record and nothing happened. When I contacted support, they took 5 days to respond, and when I replied, the case was closed. Then I tried through chat support and the guy had no idea why the TXT record wasn't showing up and told me to redirect my name servers to hover as a solution. After that chat, I transferred my domain immediately. Hover is an absolute joke. Nobody should be using them.

Howlingly inept. Hover.com is part of the Tucows group. Founded in 1993. Now a public company. Ostensibly more inclined to deal with "investor relations" than with domain registrations. "As of March 2019, Tucows is the third-largest accredited registrar in the world" says Wikipedia. Considering how their system works, that is frightening. Could not handle a simple domain transfer. The system barfed twice, authorized a Paypal charge twice, before barfing a third time. "Online chat" was unavailable for 30 minutes. Email received a rapid reply but once a "cancel order" request was made, there was no follow-up. No "we're sorry" or "can you give us a chance to look into this?". Zip. Crap on a potential customer at your own risk. Sad. Very sad.

I transferred my domain entries to hover.com, and they were a disaster. I culdn't change the TTL, and although they claimed their TTL was 15 minutes, it took days and days. Even then, they only seemed to propagate when I hassled them

One of the worst companies that do business with it, because I lost "Google Authenticator" app, I gave them all info that prove of my ownership of the domain, but they are asking me paper of the court is that prove I am the same person.

- They do not have to verify by phone
- Technical support does not answer quickly
- You will hear, "We can not do something you" from the Technical Support

My rate: 0 / 10

Do not be fooled by the prices they offer. Service is more important than price.

I used the service for a.net domain on the advice of the ETSY Marketplace and for the first year everything was ok. Then I got a PayPal charge for what I thought was a high amount for renewal where I would have found at half the price the same service from another provider. The thing that bothered me most in the first place was that in the meantime I had not received any email either of a renewal quote or any other information, basically they could charge me any amount without my knowing it beforehand. Because of this behavior I opened a PayPal file as well as contacting them. After the temporary block for verifications by PayPal I receive a communication that in addition to the high amount of the domain I would have to pay an additional 15 Usd because I did not pay on the same day of the deadline (having blocked the payment for due checks). Basically for one day late I was charged almost double the service fee. I have been buying domains for decades and never had such a thing happen to me. No response to my questions, only impositions to pay to get the domain back active, otherwise I can't even transfer it in when they took away my access to the site. Unbelievable all this, avoid buying services from this company!

I've been a longtime customer, since they were MailBank in 1998. At the time they offered email forwarding service for a very reasonable price, and I got locked in to using a nice email address that they provided. Over the years the prices have gone from reasonable to downright robbery!
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH HOVER! You will get locked in to an email address and they jack the prices when you become reliant on it.

Hover had url forwarding issues which began 11/24 at 8 pm and its currently 11/25 8:45 am and the issue still has not being resolved. There was no notification via email that the issue occurred. I was actually notified thru a customer. I sent two emails and there was no response until after I called them back in the morning. When I contacted Hover there was no automated greeting, just a guy who pick up the phone casually sounding like if he were in his boxers. He was very insensitive and told me there would be no compensation for my losses. STAY AWAY FROM THIS THOROUGHLY INCOMPETENT, UNPROFESSIONAL, INSENSITIVE NONCHALANT, BULL$#*! $#*! COMPANY!

Initially, I had a great idea for a business name and website: let's just call it something.com.
Anyway, I did a whois search (i can't remember where but I usually use whois.net, which prominently displays the "HOVER" icon on their page). If memory serves me, this time I did a GoDaddy whois search instead. GoDaddy listed the domain as available and I registered it, and set it to private. I paid $60+. It turns out that I got so busy I never checked for my emailed receipt and after further research, my credit card didn't go through because I hadn't updated my billing address. My attempt at registration was on or around 11/30/2015. I just did a whois and my site has been taken by someone else with quite a few domains registered already. From the WHOIS information, it looks like the site was registered by that "someone else" on the same day!

I tried to request that he sell me the domain, but Hover wants $199 just to talk to him!

It could be that all whois.net traffic is monitored by Hover.com and somebody uses that data to quickly grab sites that people search for. I have no idea. Just a wild theory.

I bought a domain from this company and now I can't access my account, nor do I have the domain, (but they did charge the money), I'm going to report this company to the authorities so they can investigate it, thank God I only bought a domain domain, because I have read cases where other people lost their domains.

So Hover had a security breach and had to reset all passwords for accounts in their webmail system. Unfortunately I hadn't updated my alternate email address so I was left locked out of my account, fair enough but they could have emailed my actual hover email address and I would have received the notice!

I was forced to seek out someone to create a notary for me which actually cost me more than the entire email subscription I have with them, I was offered several apologies but nothing else in return. Nor would they budge or take a compromise on identifying myself, such as providing a copy of my passport and a list of past emails.

Finally I sent them the notary and the person who was dealing with my request was on sick leave so they decided to put my (now outstanding for three weeks!) issue into a new issue which put me at the back of the pack of support issues!

So notary provided, four days has gone by without access to my email account, I asked if I could be prioritised and again was offered an apology but nothing else.

Had I not had this email address for so long I would definitely switch providers.

Is this company a scam? I am just trying to renew a domain and change the name servers. I can't edit name servers, I can't renew my domain. Their interface is super buggy.

Tip for consumers:
I wouldn't use it, i would immediately transfer your domains away from them.
