Imgur has a rating of 1.8 stars from 80 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Imgur most frequently mention front page, left wing, and toxic community problems. Imgur ranks 97th among Photo Sharing sites.
When photobucket decided to take the whole internet hostage, ruining forum content, etc. with no warning, the internet needed to look elsewhere (seriously, who would pay $399/year?). Where did the internet go? Imgur. Thank you for the great service you provide. We really do appreciate it! Great site, works better than photobucket ever did and it's free!
Imgur does not even pretend anymore, at this point, to be unbiased or considerate of any even keeled or respectful perspectives. The bias is extremely apparent. In an age of extreme partisanship in all corners of the Internet, Imgur manages to do the impossible: it stands out. There really isn't another site that reaches this levels of blatant disregard for objectivity that the platform does. My words really don't matter, though: just look for yourself. Provoking anger, either amongst its supporters or detractors, seems to be the only goal. I suppose, somehow, that this emotional surge is supposed to be positive in the service of some greater cause, but a permanently angry and incensed population seems to be the opposite of helpful to me in attempting to solve the issues in the world, no matter what your perspective is. Imgur is what it tries so hard to tell you that it isn't: an angry, fuming monster spewing rage at the invisible "enemies" it claims to be fighting.

The site is filled with hate. Messages saying "kill all the Police" are not uncommon. I reported them to Imgur and nothing happen. It is cesspit congregating sad individuals manipulated by certain interest groups.
Imgur used to be a fun image-sharing website with nice spontaneous new meme trends & bandwagons, the occasional storytime, and cute dog gifs. I've struggled to find anything even remotely close to that for the past few years. The company has made it impossible not to use their app which doesn't work very well, tries to make up forced trends like "{insert random wannabe quirky thing no one's ever asked for} day!", and is far from above board with their mod practices. The community has followed, and most of the good fun meme-making users are gone, to be replaced by people who take themselves way too seriously and are quick to harass others. There are no more memes, and strictly nothing funny; this website has become the worst.
I'm going to focus only on the negatives here, as the praise has already been said.
My main concern is that fact that Imgur uses no less than 40 trackers to mine information about their users which they then sell. Every privacy-minded individual should be concerned about this fact. Using the Ghostery plugin alongside with Adblock blocks them all, however. I would not recommend using Imgur without Ghostery or Do Not Track Plus.
My second concern is the comments. They're truly the worst of the worst The comments section of submissions is basically a popularity contest to see who can make the most ironic, humorous, or pop culture reference-laden comment the quickest. Seldom will you find anything intelligent in the comments.
Lastly, the content. Upon visiting the site, the front page is loaded with horrible memes and such stupidities. But if you delve deeper, such as into the /r/ reddit categories, it gets better.
IMGUR might be the most toxic community I've ever seen. It is run by a group of lunatic leftists who will ban anyone who even remotely wavers from towing their political agenda. If you want a peek behind the scenes of Antifa's ideology and network, this is it. They call anyone and everyone they don't agree with fascists and nazis. Their power users, who are all linked up to a discord server which includes the mods and head of community routinely threaten violence and spin up mobs to attack other users.
I set up an account and posted the below picture, which was enough to get the account banned (irony intended).
One can only hope that the corporate advertisers wise up and recognize that they are associating their brands with a hate site.
Tip for consumers:
Stay away and especially keep children off of it
It's a cesspool of people that love to attack one another and spread hateful comments. If you are too old, a different skin color, or a woman, I would avoid this place. It's got more hateful ideology than I've ever found anywhere outside of maybe Reddit.
On top of that, the mods let it happen and are on board with it. I pointed out that someone was being ageist and they could be fired for that in the real world, and they flagged my comment with a "warning" that it goes against their community standards. LOL what standards? These idiots need to take a long look in the mirror.
I commented on someone who posted that they don't know how to feel about trans women in women's sports. I commented but didn't say anything bad about trans people, i made a valid point. They threatened to suspend my account because it goes against their abusive, harassing, hateful, bullying, or discriminatory policy. Because I don't believe that a man should be allowed in a women's locker room and I can't get behind this movement that exposes young girls and women to rape and sexual assault they removed my comment and threatened to deactivate my account. They think they're these accepting and tolerant social justice warriors, yet if you don't agree with one of their ideologies you'll get banned.
As a major image hosting site, Imgur have existed for years and still outrunning their other competitor, a good place to post pics that you take yourself and can be done without even signing up with them, but if you want to ask for the user opinion about your photo, I don't recommend you do that on Imgur because their user can be so toxic that it will hurt you just by reading the comment they posted. Sometimes can be a fun site but then suddenly everyone start hating each other for some ridiculous reason.
This website has unfortunately devolved into an extreme liberal echo chamber. They celebrate conservative deaths and repeatedly call for violence against anyone who is even moderately conservative. This public forum needs to be regulated and controlled just like the liberals who have controlled facebook and twitter. Equality is a two way street.
Tip for consumers:
Don't. This website is not about free thought and free sharing of ideas. Its about controlling the thought and rhetoric delivered to people. Shame on Imgur. You started as such a shining beacon of good will, fun, and sharing, and devolved into a den of hate and violent intentions.

This is an online think-tank and social media outlet. The product they provide is so drastically skewed and controlled that it cant even be called a product. Its a wholesale propaganda machine. The creators and the majority of the moderators hold left leaning ideals at heart and control the thoughts on this website to their ideals. If you express an even mildly conservative view point you are shouted down, insulted, and even threatened, to which no moderation is taken.
The one site I thought I could actually express myself on, disregarded two posts that I tried to post that diffused suicide and was expressing my current situation on. I didn't go into detail of myself or anything but they shut me down, twice. $#*! them.
I was a member since it was just for image sharing. Now you can't post anything with being bashed. Literally anything. My last post was of 10 hot rods from a car show. The comment section turned political within 5 comments. I'm not too political but it eventually sucked me in. I posted some crime stats from the FBI.gov website and was shadow banned immediately! Made a new account and posted some stats from homeland security about being prepared. Immediately shadow banned. I contacted support and never ever heard anything back of why. I'm pretty sure they just block my email address. No matter who you are stay far away from this site if you believe in First Amendment. Because they sure are not for it. They preach freedom and democracy but they don't practice it. It's too bad. It's almost comical how bad this website is.
I used imgur for years. I used to really enjoy turning off and having a laugh with it. But I finally had to call it quits. Too many people on there are just hateful and angry. Some share personal stories that are uplifting or emotional (hence the one star for the rare good content) but inevitably it turns into a bunch of crying, whining, babies insulting each other. God forbid you try to be a voice of reason. Just walk away and save yourself the pain of watching the degradation of society in front of you. Unfortunately, woman tend to be the target of many of the hate. I don't engage in the comment section, but it can be difficult to ignore the more angry ones. There are better sites with better people out there. Pass on this one.

This site is garbage. People are allowed to harass and/or stalk you if you disagree with their opinion. The mods here genuinely don't give a $#*!. I would literally pay for front row seats to watch the people on this site kill themselves.
If you're not an extreme left winger, you are not allowed to voice an opinion. They will delete your comments immediately without any explanation, just because it doesn't fit with their agenda. IMGUR is the most petty online community I've ever seen. Don't bother visiting IMGUR.
Imgur hires mods with left wing bias and is expressed in their daily operations. I can't count how many times I made a comment critical of Socialism and it gets taken down without warning or explanation. This is not on their TOS and violates their own TOS and supposed ethos. Imgur is a socialist propaganda echo chamber.
Imgur goes to great lengths to police their platforms but does so in favor of high output users. So it becomes a power dynamic and if you say something they disagree with especially on Sunday when there are no moderators, then they will multi report you and get you a 24 hour ban in which you cannot defend yourself. They literally practice and allow censorship, but in a narrative changing way. Very toxic and allows abusers to feel they have a place to dominate others.
They added filters now to block unwanted tags, political serial posters, and now you can also block anyone who harasses you or you suspect may be dis genuine, etc. Doesn't change the fact that many users are simply to is and can still see and harm your content activity.
I was part of the Imgur community for years. Even participated in the holiday gift exchange. Finally had to delete my account after initially loving the content, and here are my reasons. 1: the site is manipulated by a select few who run or are involved in the site on a more than user basis. Examples are multiple accounts ability which allow self upvoting & comments, that also creates an appearance of legitimacy to false & damaging opinions or propaganda; some who post daily, have reported inappropriate content fo un-removed(favoritism). 2: There is a high number of foreign individuals who even identify themselves as such, who then post political Twitter grabs, questionable news op-ed's and more. One should ask critically why so many foreign individuals want to churn a political landscape they are no party to. I've never posted to any forum on a daily basis, about another country's politics, have you? Think: an Australian citizen in Australia posting every day about American riots, this politicians speech or act, even pushes to go vote. 3: With an overwhelming young, still in school set of users, this site isn't great for minds still developing. I would also note that on the political scale this is a far left platform. 4: I've seen animal sexualization, police hate to the point of endorsing violence, disdain for historical facts unless attached to race, rampant misinformation with sources completely cut away, and argumentative people called "trolls" who dominate all attempts at productive conversation and healthy debate. They will stalk, intimidate, curse, name call and bully in order to smash any dissent which creates a false appearance of legitimacy. 5: If you disagree at all on any one thing or have an opinion they do not endorse they will message friends to come comment on your post. Or they will call you racist and attack you personally. Interesting how being anti violence gets you so much hate. I've even seen pro China, pro Putin posts that conveniently ignore history.
* It's worth also noting that before some of the major changes Imgur endorsed, pre 2017, it was a really great site. Few politics, few hateful people and mostly open to debate on a wide range of subjects. If you are a moderate non-extremist this site isn't for you.
Tip for consumers:
If you want we this site try not to engage in comments. And feel free to block negative aggressive users.
Imgur used to be great 10+ years ago. Now it's filled with obviously promoted propaganda and censorship. Well there was even censorship 10 years ago. I remember posting pictures and art and being made fun of by nasty toxic drones. I tried to post a picture about the millions of people starving in Yemen and it got down voted and censored. That is both disgusting and disturbing. These people have no souls. Total narcissistic psychos. It's still okay for hosting private images I guess, but for entertainment it's garbage.
Tip for consumers:
Don't bother voicing an opinion that doesn't fall in line with all the brainwashed sheep and bots.

You go there expecting fun, entertaining, and/or informative content. What you get is a bunch of cat pics, and re-posts. Also worth mentioning they looove animals, but 'bacon tho'. Dumb, unoriginal posts from attention horse. Deleted my account now, as I know all I need about how to make sure my CV is on point, as well as my eyebrows.
Imgur is not a place for decent, original human beings who are creative and come up with their own stuff. If you look at anything art related that is posted, it gets immediate hate and has a bunch of 30 year old men with no jobs, live in their mom's basement and have cheeto dust all over their long, crusty beards saying how trash it is. If what I just said describes you, then congratulations! You should go to Imgur! But chances are, you are an actual intelligent human being if you understand how toxic it is and you are reading this. So yeah, would not recommend, -100/10
This is a hate site. There is no room for opinions that oppose the totalitarian regime. All shall be silenced who question the czars of Imgur. It is a left-wing police state. Don't use Imgur unless you are a far left-winger and just want to hear your own opinions spoon fed back to you in the great echo chamber. Imgur dulls the mind quickly as there is no real intellectual debate or conversation. Logical arguments back and forth do not exist. I'm guessing Imgur is probably fun for teenagers who think they are the next Che Guevara or something. Anyway, thank you for attending my TED talk.
Tip for consumers:

Desperate women seeking whatever attention they can get through soft porn posts. Thirsty guys lavishing them with praise while hiding in their white armor and ganging up on anyone who disagrees. Its like Tinder. But the worst, by far is the terrible mods, they feed into this circlejerk while claiming they dont, they are outright hateful to anyone they dont approve of, and they will never change so long as the same desperate women and thirsty men keep giving them ad revenue.
They are legitimately terrible people filled with malice and greed and have no business trying to say they are good.
The front page of featured images are packed with Trump-hate and radical left wing content even some calling for white genocide and to "kill all whites". None of that ever gets removed in fact it get's upvoted. Yet I got my post removed for "violating community guidelines" but all it was was a simple post about the fact that Georgetown lost to Colorado after kneeling for the anthem it didn't have anything actually violating in it. It's basically Twitter now but with more GIFs and a downvote button. Avoid this site at all costs.
Tip for consumers:
Avoid this site, they are unfairly political and wield a heavy bias and partisan leaning and foster extremists.

Don't expect to go here with any kind of logic or reason with intentions of discussing topics related to $#*! posts. Dubbed a "democratic" community of voting. Bull. If you make any kind of comment that doesn't tow the line of Trump Hate, or hate in general, you will be blocked, muted, and even warned of abuse. Seriously?
Maybe admins are communist dictators shutting down free speech that triggers them?
There are some really cool and interesting things people are doing and sharing on this website, but you have to dig through mountains of recycled meme macros, re-posts galore, arbitrary "community" norms like "cat tax" and "no selfies", and inconsistent moderator actions.
The anonymous upvote/downvote mechanism allows for rampant abuse, especially since there is little consequence for downvoting another member's submission. The scale of abuse aimed at well intentioned but non-conforming viewpoints is staggering. 140 characters seems to be inadequate space to articulate and engage in meaningful discussion over some very controversial but tolerated political posts, especially.
Imgur is the easiest way to discover and enjoy the magic of the Internet.
