Kayak has a rating of 2.3 stars from 321 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Kayak most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and search engine problems. Kayak ranks 212th among Travel Search Engine sites.
Since Kayak offers discounts from other websites, I appreciate it. The fact that they don't provide discounts for Southwest Airlines—which often have cheaper prices if you don't mind delayed flights—is noteworthy. When comparing prices on several booking websites, such Expedia and Priceline, I usually use Kayak.
I recently booked a hotel room at the Hyatt House Charlotte, N.C. Using Kayak / Traveluro using the Kayak app. I selected the 2 queen bed room but they changed it to a king room and could not get them to admit their mistake or any help what so ever, terrible customer service,
Takes just a couple of minutes to get it available and the services to me are of good standards and i look forward for more
Wow I almost used these clowns...
There is a HUGE amount of angry customers here. NO WAY would I use them!
Tip for consumers:
run away!
I agree with everything said on this forum. I booked flights through Kayak for my family and me for a trip this June to the World Cup. Booking the tickets was easy enough. Everything was very simple until I received an email from Travelocity that my flight itinerary has changed and to call the Customer Support Center to confirm the changes. It took me five phone calls each lasting over 30 minutes to fix my flight itinerary. The first four times I was told by "Dennis", "Katie", "Ricky", and some other made up name for their overseas support person that they could not get through to the airline to fix my flight. Finally, on the fifth try, I was able to arrange my return flights so that they worked for my travel dates. Great! Done! Now I can get on with my life! Except, when I get the confirmation email the next day listing my new flight itinerary, I notice that they also changed a flight on the last leg of my outgoing trip so that I am now missing a connector flight to my final destination. This was never reviewed with me during my five phone calls so I have no idea why they changed it to begin with. Now I am in the process of getting this flight fixed. I'm two calls in. The first time, I got the same response, "We're having a hard time connecting to the airline. Please call back." This morning, I just got off a call with "Nancy" where I was on hold for over 30 minutes before my call was picked up. When I explained to her the situation, she said that I'd need to contact the airline directly. What?! I was very adamant that I would not be doing that since this was their mistake and that they need to own it until it's resolved. After a few minutes of back and forth, "Nancy" finally realized that it is indeed an issue that they need to fix. So, she calls the airline and guess what? She's having a problem connecting and I'm asked to please call back in a couple days. UNBELIEVABLE! NEVER EVER WILL I BOOK THROUGH KAYAK AGAIN!
We are two families who bought tickets from kayak for the same itinerary. One family got redirected to http://Expedia.com and my family to http://Justfly.com Both families decided to cancel the tickets. Family with Expedia got refunded with $300 per person charge from airlines. Yesterday When we called Justfly to cancel, an agent named Leo said the ticket is fully refundable except the $300 per person airline charge and a $150 from Justfly. I questioned him why we need to pay extra $150 per passenger when the family booked through Expedia did not charge. Agent Leo said they cannot waive the cancellation but lower it to $125 per person. The agent said the tickets are cancelled and we will be refunded the amount except the $425 per person. We then rebooked a non refundable ticket through Alnita travels today. After all the new tickets got confirmed, Agent Leo calls and tells there is some $300-$600 fuel charges that the airline won't refund and the cancellation was unsuccessful. How come the tickets bought from kayak with same itinerary and airlines can go to different websites for booking and have different cancellation charges especially what just fly saying "fuel charges ". I called one more time and second agent France confirmed that agent Leo made a mistake and only better option I have is to agree the extra charges and cancel. After almost 3.5 hrs on phone and talking to his supervisor I was forced to let go additional $600. They cannot keep up their word and do not care about customers. This is the worst travel company. Kayak should take the ownership and remove justfly from their list of travel companies. Kayak should not allow different travel companies to have different conditions. Based on this experience I will never use online travel companies.
If you need to book a flight or a hotel Kayak is the best site to do that... I always use it to compare praces and I havent had any problems yet..
Their search engine is the best consolidator and easy to compare and find lower fares and options.
USE THIS SITE FOR JUST THAT - never purchase a reservation! They have the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I made a reservation the site calls it - 'booking' for three rooms for 2 nights as a backup for a party that was coming up. I "cancelled the booking on time" on the website and it gave me the cancellation number. All three rooms were under this single booking.
One week later, I saw a credit for just one room. I called the customer service and the supervisor on the floor, they keep telling me that it only cancelled one room and they wouldn't be able to refund my money. I have printed the screen that shows clearly the cancellation of this 'booking' which clearly lists three rooms and total charge but they refused to refund. I am sure I am not the only customer who was robbed because of the hidden technicalities they didn't fix on their side of the system.
USE THE SITE FOR LOOK UP and NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING because the CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!
It help us compare many options available in the market to get what is easy and suitable for us. Easy to navigate the site.
Kayak is the best. For flight searches - simply unbeatable. The user experience is simple and powerful.
I have to disagree with those who say Kayak.com is a one stop shop. I've used Kayak many times and I've started to notice a pattern: They don't show all possible flights, which means you might not be seeing the cheapest ticket amongst the results.
Lets use my most recent situation:
I did a search on Kayak and selected "my dates are flexible" in hopes that I can find a ticket cheaper than the date I originally planned on going. If it means saving $50 to board a day or two later/earlier, I'm going to take it. If $50 isn't worth saving to you, then I envy you for having such a privilege!
(I realize that leaving a day earlier means spending that $50 and more on hotel + food, but that's time spent in my destination that is totally worth it!)
According to Kayak, the cheapest ticket would be $1745, departing Dec 14 and returning Jan 22. Well guess what? Priceline.com showed a ticket at $1714, departing Dec 12 and returning Jan 22.
(At both websites I searched for Dec 13 departure and Jan 20 return, and the tickets both have the same number of stops and similar flight duration.)
So now I know from Priceline that the cheapest ticket is from Dec 12 - Jan 22. So, I decided to do a search on Kayak for just flights departing Dec 12th and returning Jan 22nd. Only THEN did the $1714 ticket come up on Kayak.
Why it didn't come up during my initial search is beyond me, but I don't find Kayak very honest for not revealing the cheapest flight to me until I specifically did a search for the date with the cheapest flight... Which defeats the purpose of Kayak.
I'm using it to find the cheapest flight but what's the point if it's not telling me the cheapest flights?
Kayak gets a boo from me. I'm not saying you should use Priceline, BUT I'd only use Kayak as a confirmation that I won't find tickets cheaper elsewhere. Don't trust Kayak to give you the cheapest tickets from the get-go!
I recently rented a midsize car from kayak. When I got to the dollar counter they said the only vehicle they had was a silverado pick up. Not crew cab, a single cab. Well there were 3 people with luggage. That just wasn't going to work. I told the dollar representative that I ordered a midsize car from Kayak and they said I needed to take it up with them. They were not very customer focused. The guy rudely said, I had three choices. Take the truck, do an upgrade that would cost me 15 more dollars a day or not rent at all. Unfortunately, my hands were tied and I took the upgrade which was a compact care. I called Kayak and they said I had choosen the special car which meant they could give me anything they wanted. The type of car popped up and said it would be a toyota camry or nissan altima. What a joke that turned out to be. So, I will never rent from them again. If you do make sure you look at you email reservation. When I got the email it said the special car and not the midsize I thought I ordered. So, they said it was my fault. I thought the special car was just another way of saying the same thing I ordered. So, Shannon at Kayak was rude I thought when she preceded to say I had to prove I ordered the midsize car. So, that was impossible to prove that it had popped up and said which kind of car I was suppose to get. So, beware when you rent from kayak.
I am a very pissed off customer booking with kayak has been the worst experience and I will NEVER BOOK HERE AGAIN I proceeded to call kayak to ask if a room at the Hilton could be RESERVED for september 1st for my fiancés birthday I clearly asked the lady NOT ONCE BUT THREE TIMES that I did not want to book it right now because I was waiting till payday and also asked her if there was a deposit needed upon arriving and she finally said that you had to pay the complete
Money right then and there after she had taken down ALL
Our information and I said no that is not what I want so I will NOT be booking this. She said is that all I can help you with I said yes and she said ok and hung up soon enough 225 dollars are taken out of my fiancés account. This is money we pay our bills with. I called your customer service and asked to talk to a supervisor and she said a manger is the highest position... Very unprofessional. No corporate number nothing. She said there's nothing we can do. Not even compensate for the inconvenience. I will be taking legal action. It is ridiculous that there isn't a corporate number I could reach either. I will NEVER recomend it to any of my friends or family ever again
Always the best deals and easy search feature to get you what you want and where you want without the high prices!
Kayak works with a Vayama.com. Their performance in helping me rebook a canceled flight was below average.
Naw, obnoxious commercials did it for me.
Can't wait to see you tank, since there are... apparently...bigger problems.
kayak.bestticketfair.com
Had to call and be sure that they were processing and when I did its because a person needs to tell you the restrictions and I was surprised with no carry on cause my ticket price was to low. Then a 5 minute hold for them to call the airline and find out how much to add a carry on. Like I'm going for 4 days without clothes. $250 more include unexpected price increase 10 minutes later. They claim that this is the fair is the fair the airline charges and they say that you cannot actually purchase tickets this cheap (why are they available?) so their website is a lie. They tell me this is the charge they must add extra regardless and nothing is refund able.
Then cause Im mad and used the f word they hung up. I used to work in a call centre and if you're not being called names someones just expressing their feelings not directed at you don't be a baby do your job. Price of the ticket was $396 but if I want carry on its another $250 USD, Im Canadian could have used a Canadian site and paid $500 Canadian but now I will be like $750 if they don't add on more later. DO not use this site if you like your money. They dont tell you upfront you have to call. They tell me most of this cost is cause the ticket price changed, in just a few mins, this is how they screw you, less hassle for the few extra bucks. Also this was American Airlines I will be buying direct from west jet from now on they have never made me this mad. I pay twice this price for the same flight but carryon welcome luggage welcome and no BS.
I have spent over 30 minutes on the phone the final quote is $637.02 USD which is $863.70 again I could have only paid $500 Canadian. Now as im getting off the phone she tells me ill be charged in 2 parts tax on top of this so now my guess is we are at a $1000 and I should have just purchased from west jet. She didnt like my approval email as I said since Im taking it up the $#*! go ahead and do what you got to do.
Tip for consumers:
lots of hold time and time on the phone with them. when buying online I dont want to spend any time on the phone with anyone. This is a requirement

My husband and I previously have used Kayak with much success, but COVID-19 and resulting flight changes has made using Four party websites difficult to navigate with limited available staff and customer service. This causes undue stress on both ends. We recently purchased tickets to Peru via Kayak & Chatdeal. LATAM had to change the flight times, resulting in an involuntary change and an arrival change to a day later. Because we are going through Chatdeal via Kayak, we have to get the refund through Chatdeal. When we first reached out to them, customer service was spotty. We had to call, message, and email in order to get an adequate response. I am usually very understanding since staffing and pressures from the pandemic have really placed stress on all of us. But when it comes to $1500, I am a little less willing to compromise especially when LATAM is allowing a full refund d/t the flight change. Since we reached out many times over the last 48h, Chatdeal's customer service has been better. And they are trying to work on getting us the full refund. My husband and I will be choosing to go directly through the airline from now on because of this experience even if we have to pay more for our tickets. Our recommendation is to use Kayak to find the best available flights/rentals and then go directly through the company to involve as few people as possible. Yesterday, I gave Kayak a two star review, but the service has gotten better, plus I have had more sleep since I am coming off of night shifts.
Update: Chatdeal was able to work with us to get our full refund with the $50 processing fee waived. I still maintain my review, but their customer service was much improved over the course of our interaction.
Tip for consumers:
Remember this is the fourth party involved. It is basically a search engine to find the cheapest available tickets. Recommend going through the airline directly to involve as few people as possible.

NEVER USE KAYAK TO BOOK A TRIP!
This website is the worst travel site I have ever worked with. It really needs to check to accuracy of the sites it pulls its information from. It 100% unreliable and I have tried using them twice. The first time the hotel never got my reservation, the second time the hotel no longer exists... both time I was charged by Kayak to my card.
So here is my story.
I booked a hotel for President's Day weekend for my anniversary. When I arrived at the hotel they did not have a reservation for me and had no more reservations for me. I instantly tried call Kayak.com and after an hour of being on hold finally gave up and had to go find another hotel. Me and my boyfriend continued trying to call them over the next 3 days. I finally got back to someone who was very apologetic and said they were having a problem with the hotel chain I had booked with. They were very apologetic and said they would refund my money... 10 days later. They did call me again a few days later to say my request had been approved and the full amount would be refunded and also credited me $50 to my next trip.
So though I was flustered they did eventually fix the problem and I figured I might as well try and give them a second chance and use my credit with them. So I booked another hotel for one night in Tahoe. However this time I didn't want to show up again without them having the reservation. I called the hotel number Kayak gave me and it has been disconnected. So I did an internet search of the address and it gave me a different hotel name than the one Kayak provided and the hotel they supposedly booked for me is no longer open.
So yet again have to try and get ahold of Kayak, which is impossible, and get me money refunded.
Completely unexceptable. Never using them again and I would advise anyone else against it as well.
However they are getting their travel information is not working for them and I have read many other reviews with people having similar problems. They are not reliable and make vacations more stressful, and who wants that?
I had the worst experience of my life with kayaking, I travel a lot, and I always buy through expedia, I never had a problem with them. But in this case I bought through kayak, and on the website it said that I had 24 hours to cancel (just like Expedia, and most companies)
2 hours after buying the ticket, I called to cancel, they told me that everything was ok, that they contacted the airline but that everything was ok, and they never sent me the money, for 45 days I called almost every day, and they told me to wait, What a wait, today when I finally called they told me that they never canceled it and that I shouldn't wait for my money because it would never arrive, they always answer people who don't understand their English, and with that they do scams.
I lost 1900 dollars on a kayak and it was the worst experience of my life buying tickets.
Please, if you are going to buy, it is preferable to pay a little more but buy from reliable companies.
KAYAKING IS THE WORST TICKET COMPANY IN THE WORLD
I have used kayak.com several times to find great deals on flights and never had any problems. I used them a couple of weekends ago to book a hotel for my grandmother-in-law's funeral, and the experience was terrible. When we arrived at the hotel (which as a side note was terrible too), I showed the hotel my printed confirmation from kayak. It showed that we were booked in a standard double room. It said nothing about being smoking on the confirmation sheet. The hotel said that since a 3rd party had booked the room, they could not make any changes and that this very incident had happened several times before. They refused to book us in a non-smoking room, because those rooms were more expensive. They told me that the only way anything could change would be if I called kayak and had them change it. Fast forward to over an hour on the phone and over an hour waiting for a return call (which never came). Kayak refused to fix the problem and told me it was my fault for booking incorrectly. Even the fine print says it is a smoking or non-smoking room based on availability. There was a non-smoking room available! The people at kayak were rude and refused to do anything to fix the problem and denied that it was wrong that it never said it was a smoking room. Another important side note here... other rooms on the website CLEARLY were marked smoking rooms/suits. So, wouldn't any normal person assume if it didn't say anything it would be non-smoking? Anyway, we were late for family gatherings related to the funeral, so I left it with them by saying I would be sure to tell everyone I know what a sham this whole thing was, and NOT to use their services in the future. Oh, and I had to pay the upcharge for a non-smoking room.
Yesterday, I did a search on kayak.com for a pet-friendly hotel near our home. We need a place to stay with our dog while our bathroom is being repaired. It came up with the Metro Points Hotel-Washington North. If you follow this link, you'll see it's listed as pet-friendly on Kayak's website (at least at the time of this review):
Http :// www.kayak. Com/h/hotel/details. Vtl? Searchid=QpK0YQ&hid=*******&rating=3&bookiturl=-*******. EXPEDIA, EXPEDIA.-100|*******381. HOTELSDOTCOM, EXPEDIAHOTEL. 8486|*******. ARN, ARN. 8486&cp=13-86-384&idx=165&&ro=false&pg=1
Kayak's link forwarded me to Hotels.com, where I booked the room, non-refundable, for $339.42. Later, when I went to Hotel's site, it turns out that the Hotel is NOT pet-friendly. I called Hotels.com and they in turn, called the hotel. The hotel says it has no relationship with Kayak and refused to refund my money. Hotels.com refused to refund my money unless the hotel agreed to refund it. I called Kayak's offices and talked to someone in very noisy surroundings—I had to yell into the phone for her to hear me—and she said she could find no record of my reservation.
So here's the situation: Kayak's site gave me wrong information (I have a screenshot of it); passed me through to another site, which may have had the right information, but I had already searched on pet-friendly on Kayak's site. And now I'm out $339.42.
Kayak is an amazing price comparison website, I use it when I need to book a trip and I was able to save a lot of money!
Kayak is a large price comparison search engine for travel. It has prices for plane tickets, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages. Kayak doesn't sell any of these services directly, but instead directs you to another site where you can make a purchase.
