Kayak has a rating of 2.3 stars from 321 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Kayak most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and search engine problems. Kayak ranks 213th among Travel Search Engine sites.
Since Kayak offers discounts from other websites, I appreciate it. The fact that they don't provide discounts for Southwest Airlines—which often have cheaper prices if you don't mind delayed flights—is noteworthy. When comparing prices on several booking websites, such Expedia and Priceline, I usually use Kayak.
I recently booked a hotel room at the Hyatt House Charlotte, N.C. Using Kayak / Traveluro using the Kayak app. I selected the 2 queen bed room but they changed it to a king room and could not get them to admit their mistake or any help what so ever, terrible customer service,
I was looking for flights and got the same old "best rates" thing from Kayak. When I went directly to Frontier I found a roundtrip, non-stop flight for the exact same days for less than half of Kayak. Do your research before booking. The same Frontier flight was first leg of their lowest fare, but the return leg was not nonstop, and was much higher with a different carrier. My search was for Tampa, FL to Las Vegas, NV and back, depart Tampa 5/29/22, and, depart Vegas 6/2/22 coming home. Check it for yourself. $275 roundtrip per person at Frontier, over $600 on Kayak.
I have used KAYAK for flight comparison and have used their companies, without
Any problem. However, recentely I booked a flight through one of their company,
Bravofly and the price was £945.57, but their confirmation showed £1,075.75. They have taken this amount from visa debit card.
Now I wish to request KAYAK to get me a refund of £130.18 as I find this to be unfair, and it is one of the companies on their website, which would give them a bad name.
Booking ID *******
Tip for consumers:
Well look at this. I have not booked through KAYAK, but this is one of the companies on their price comparison website. I feel they should be responsible for this.
I always used Kayak for air tickets search. I might continue using them, but for search only, I will never book tickets through Kayak since 24 hours free return policy doesn's work with them! They will charge you $50 for each booked ticket! It never happened to me before. I always use 24hour return policy, It gives me time to make my final decision. Also you can check reviews of the company Kayak is using to sell their tickets: chatdeal, I think its rating is 1,5 star... it says a lot!
This was the best travel service out there. But now that they got bought out, I hope they stay that way. However, if history and past experience is any indicator, most big companies buy the smaller "great" companies to either drive them into the ground and wipe out the competition, OR to skin them alive, take out the best parts, and dump the remainder. The big company will NEVER try to remake itself in the image of the smaller, better, company.
From our complaint to Kayak:
My girlfriend and I realized that instead of starting our vacation in Athens, that we should have started in Hungary/Romania. We looked to see if we could make this very simple switch and saw that according to your policies it was possible. When I called, not only did I find out that it was not possible to switch but that the tickets were completely non-refundable. The man on the phone said that we were completely locked in and there was nothing that we could do about it. If we had booked directly with the airlines, we would likely not be in this position. Because we made the mistake of booking with Kayak, one which we will NEVER repeat, we are completely screwed, as your representative so callously pointed out.
They have not responded. Bastards!
I used kayak to purchase a ticket before pandemic and their price comparison site get me through Dream World Travel and all flights were cancelled and i am claiming refunds now for nearly 2 years and still no luck. I dont recommend kayak to anyone. And people i suggest to avoid Dream World Travel read their online reviews your money is at risk. They are comitting fraud. And kayak why do you allow a fraudulent company Dream World Travel to be in your price comparison site?

After trusting Kayak, I bought a ticket from Kiwi.com. What a terrible experience it's been, and my flight is three months away! After this vacation, I will neither use Kiwi.com or Kayak.com ever again.
I know Kayak is a search engine, but they should vet their vendors. The reason I say that Kiwi is a scam is that you buy a "basic package" that does not include email support, and they hang up on you when you call their phone support. I only wish I were joking. A British phone bot comes on and says, "Enter your booking number now" and when I key it in she says, "There has been an error. Please call again later."
I called three times. In my book, this is a scam. The reason I was trying to call is that today the coronavirus has shown up in the country of my destination.
This is a helpful flights search tool as it helps to compare the fares of different companies. But making payments on the site was somewhat a challenge for me. The card was rejected a couple of times and I couldn't find a way to contact someone so they could help me out.
Had a family emergency come up, needed to cancel a hotel reservation I had made. Was told I could not have it refunded, not even a dollar. Asked to speak to a manager and held firm, not even a partial refund. My advice is to stay far away from this group. Wish I had read the other reviews I am now seeing on this site. Buyer, beware!
I wish i saw this website before.
Kayak is the worst so called service provider.
I have a problem with tripsta a company they recommend, they havent responded to me so ive got in contact with Kayak they have basically washed there hands and said its not there issue. Yet we are there customers? We have used there website for a service surely as a reputable company you would expect them to know what shoddy companys there promoting!
So unhappy!
Disgusting customer service
I've used Kayak a few times to get me somewhere. The first time was when I was traveling to San Diego for a marketing conference. I got the flight through them while I ended up staying at the hotel on a deal I got for being at the conference. Other websites would've cost me around an extra $200 for the whole thing.
Another time I actually managed to save $800 by getting my hotel, car, and air travel through them. I compared this around getting directly from the companies I was purchasing from as well as a couple of those other sites I see on television. There has been one time when they weren't the cheapest, but given that it was a smaller airline, I can't really blame them.
Today is 3/22/2012 and I received terrible customer service with CheapOair. I was also told i needed to pay another $150 to rebook my flight. After I agreed to do so because I need to get home ASAP... she then started to constantly ask me if i wanted to save $10 on my flight by booking a car. We went back and forth over and over how i live in DC and have my own car. She then STILL tried to get me to rent the car and than said but its saving you money... finally I told her to cancel my flight and i was going to go with another flight... over $70 more with one of there competitors... doesn't matter who but I will NEVER use them again!
Its not always about money but service!
I used Kayak to find a good rate on a hotel in Los Angeles. I was able to book a decent rate and all went well until I had to change a date on the reservation. There is a big disconnect between Kayak and its affiliate getaroom.com Kayak at this time can't update your trip record with anything changed on getaroom.com. Kayak still displays the old cancelled reservation with the title of the new reservation. The information between all these entities is not updated. The problem with a site like this is all the middlemen touching the reservation. Me -> Kayak -> getaroom.com -> Hotel. I had to call the hotel directly to make sure the reservation existed because I didn't have a valid confirmation number from any system.
Their customer service is a joke. This guy Leo sent me an email on Sunday to ask for confirmation another flight since my original one got cancelled. I replied but never be able to reach them successfully for 2 days. Then the 3rd day I could but It was too late, the alternative flight for the cancelled one is no longer there. This agent Ingrid said It takes her up to 48 hours to find alternative for me. I could google in 5 mins I wonder why 48 hours... I called again the next day, this time Kai seems to be more helpful a little bit since He could find other options in 30 mins. But they are all too expensive. Then I asked for refund but They keep sending me to different people. One person even asked me to wait and then hang up on me. "NEVER EVER USE KAYAK"
I searched the site for two hours before finding multiple flights that would work. When I went to book I was led to Delta website where I was told the price could not be met! What a huge waste of time. STAY AWAY!
Does anyone ever get a refund from Kayak? The airline has refunded the price of a cancelled ticket to the travel agency, but Kayak refuses to send the money to me citing an arbitrary 4-6 week processing time. It charged me an $450 to process the cancellation, which happened instantly.
Absolutely horrendous - booked a ticket described as business class on Kayak. When i got the final ticket details (after paying) it described ticket as economy. Complained to kayak and Kayak demanded proof. Fortunately i had the screen shots. Once Kayak got the screen shots, they said they would look into it, but finally came back and said there was nothing they could do and that i should read their small print! Would never use Kayak again. AVOID
I used kyak to make hotel reservation and their website stopped working while I was submitting my application, I resubmitted and was subsequently double charged for a room. Good luck trying to get reimbursed from these scam artist.
Booked, AND PAID for two nights at the Aria in Las Vegas for this Easter weekend. Arrived at the desk. They had no record of my reservation. I didn't have the printed confirmation... my fault. But why didn't Kayak process the booking? They hit my credit card... great... but they couldn't book the reservation. I'm out two nights, a ruined weekend. Am steamed. Will never use Kayak.com again.
I booked a car rental at Enterprise at the Tyler, TX airport. I got the booking confirmed and a confirmation number. I drove all the way to the airport and Enterprise told me they had no cars. I showed her my confirmation number from Kayak and she said, "What are you and idiot? Do you think we really care about reservations made through Kayak. It's worthless."
Certainly my last time using Kayak
Tip for consumers:
Don't believe it when they tell you that you have a reservation.
I had a glitch with my reservation. When I called customer service to try to resolve it, my call was routed to San Salvador. My call was escalated to the San Salvador call center manager, Lori. She was rude and extremely unprofessional. When I asked for her manager's name, she told me that she is the highest level that I was going to reach- there was no one above her. Very frustrated and almost in tears, I called the Kayak help # back. This time, I was routed to Manila. Long story short, I am out $132.60.
I feel like I have been robbed and no one at Kayak cares. Trying to get someone at the corporate office is almost impossible. I also posted this same review on the Kayak Facebook site- Kayak took my post off their Facebook page. It is obvious that Kayak is not interested in resolving any issues regarding their bookings. I am deleting my IPhone App. Sorry Kayak- it is just bad business.
I was clearly on the Canadian Kayak Website. A flight deal flashed on the website. It was a scam cause it was in USD and it never clearly stated it was in USD. When I complained they provided me a AI response of how their computer only generated to the locale that the user is using. Which is not true cause I am in Canada. Flights were way cheaper on Expedia and WestJet.
Tip for consumers:
Do not purchase from them

I have used Kayak a few times when looking for flight and travel options. My favorite feature is being able to search new destinations and compare them based on the time of the year you are looking to travel. I also found that Kayak has one of the most affordable options for travel when I compare them to other sites that are similar.
I wasn't too impressed with kayak.com mainly due to its outrageous prices. If you don't read the small fine print they're good at trying to trick you into believing your getting a deal by the time you notice they promised cheap price but failed to deliver it, you'll want a refund which doesn't have a high success rate. I wouldn't recommend them at all.
Kayak is a large price comparison search engine for travel. It has prices for plane tickets, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages. Kayak doesn't sell any of these services directly, but instead directs you to another site where you can make a purchase.
