Since Kayak offers discounts from other websites, I appreciate it. The fact that they don't provide discounts for Southwest Airlines—which often have cheaper prices if you don't mind delayed flights—is noteworthy. When comparing prices on several booking websites, such Expedia and Priceline, I usually use Kayak.
I recently booked a hotel room at the Hyatt House Charlotte, N.C. Using Kayak / Traveluro using the Kayak app. I selected the 2 queen bed room but they changed it to a king room and could not get them to admit their mistake or any help what so ever, terrible customer service,
I wasn't too impressed with kayak.com mainly due to its outrageous prices. If you don't read the small fine print they're good at trying to trick you into believing your getting a deal by the time you notice they promised cheap price but failed to deliver it, you'll want a refund which doesn't have a high success rate. I wouldn't recommend them at all.
My husband and I travel frequently locally and internationally, for work and for fun. Since he owns his business, he shops for the best routes and fares on Kayak. Kayak is the best place to narrow down the choices to 2 or 3 airlines by routes, by dates. Of course we check our frequent flyer airline first, but that is often not the best value fare overall or not the fastest routes.
Do not book with this company they are hands down one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. They charged my card for over £1000, and after calling the airline it turned out they only ever reserved the flight and never booked the ticket. I have spent weeks attempting to contact anyone at the company and not one reply has been received. The rep I dealt with hung up on me when he lst answered the call and has now blocked my number. Caused me more stress than anyone should hve to deal with. I intend on taking legal action if no resolution is reached. Please save yourself the stress and avoid this company at all costs. I mever wrote reviews but I hope this saves one person this problems I'm having right now.
I booked a reservation the same day I needed the room. An hour later my scheduled changed and needed to cancel the room. The first customer service rep told me I needed to speak with the specific hotel. Then patched me over to the wrong hotel. I called the right hotel and they told me I needed to speak with getaroom.com. I called them back and they said I could cancel my reservation but would be charged the full amount. It had not beer more than an hour since I booked the room. Total scam. Never using either sites again. Stay away
I rented a car from enterprise at the Denver airport through Kayak. We arrived at the airport location only to find that Kayak had reserved a car at a different location. I guess this happens more than we would like to think. We had to take the bus back to the airport and then a $40 shuttle to the other Enterprise location. I rented another car for April, and now that I had this experience, I checked my reservation and sure enough they did it again. So, clearly not just an accident. Enterprise said the outside sites like to be able to post the best rates, so they book you elsewhere. Be careful!
I have been a regular user of Kayak reviews and I would like to say that it is excellent and more useful. As far as I am concerned it has provided me a lot of knowledge on my inquiry and given more assessment to the questions that I used to raises. So it’s useful and directive as well.
My favorite site for sure when it comes to booking flights, but why do they default to "hotel search"? Thats not even their strength. Anyways the prices listed are no accurate sometimes and sometimes the flight wasnt even available when i clicked off the page to go to the booking site. So i reccommend it but you need to be careful like i n all things.
I don't recommend using only kayak for hotel booking. They don't show all possible deals, only some available part. It's 50/50; sometimes you can get good booking deal and sometimes there are better, and kayak doesn't show that
Absolutely awful customer service. No one I talked to had up-to-date information on my booking. Multiple missing emails from my communications with customer service. No supervisors were available to respond to requests. I had to be the one to find out that the booking had been canceled multiple times with no communication from the company. The only way they found out that my flight had been canceled was when I called them and told them. Completely useless. Do not book with this website. They will take your money and give you nothing for it.
I booked a rent a car through Kayak, which was a thrifty rent a car. We were given a quote of $276.79 to rent a car for 11 days. There was additional insurance that we knew about and of course taxes, but the base fees were much more. To get this car we wound up paying $652.73. IT was from the airport and after arrival did not have time to run around and secure another one. When I called Kayak I was told to read the terms and conditions, I asked which ones and I was told he was not going to read them all I needed to. This is an old fashion bait and switch I will NEVER use them again!
They don't not stand by their word. I book a room, went to check in and room was never booked and hotel was full. Called kayak they verified said they give me a full refund in 5-7 days and I would need to book a new room at a new hotel almost double the cost, I had to drive home at 12:30 am almost 2 1/2 hrs away cuz I was out of money and they did not care. Bottom line this company is horrible!
AWFUL. We were planning a trip to Napa and booked our hotel through Kayak.com. HOWEVER, when we arrived, it turned out that the hotel had been mapped incorrectly in their system. It turns out that the hotel was over an hour away! At first, Kayak.com did not even acknowledge their own error. After we got them to acknowledge their error (in writing) they stopped returning our emails about getting a refund. Thankfully we used AmericanExpress and they promptly refunded our money (wagging their finger at Kayak.com all the way). An awful customer support experience. I would expect more from a company founded by a Kellogg grad. What a joke.
I booked a car on kayak thinking I got a great deal. Upon searching for the deal, choosing the car from Budget Rental, and entering my CC #, NOWHERE was there mention of possible charge for miles ontop of the rental. No mention of it, did not lead me to look for it after receiving my confirmation email. Had I seen anything that said, here is the estimated price and cost per mile is such and such, I would not have booked the car. Neither Budget or Kayak is taking full responsibility for what feels like a surprse charge. Kayak is willing to cover some of the cost, which I appreciate, but I still feel like they mislead me in what I was getting. I use them to find flights etc, but honestly, $300 is not cheap and I will never use them again! So disappointed that a company could do this. It should say next to each price offered, but instead they blame Budget and Budget blames them. No one is actually looking out for the customer! Bad business!
I travel to Canada fairly often and am within 2 hours of 5 major airports. While I would never book through Kayak - it uses the major travel companies, like orbitz, that are all rather scammy and can cause a host of problems - it's great for initially comparing the prices for the different airports. Sometimes airport A is cheapest to fly out of, sometimes it's $200 more than the other 4, and sometimes it's best for me to do one layover. Kayak helps me figure out what I'm looking for when I go to the airlines' websites.
0 STARS This was the WORST experience EVER... NEVER BOOK through kayak.com! They have the worst customer service and its a total scam! You will end up paying more for your reservations because of "a glitch in their system"... kayak.com SUCKS!
I have always used sidestep.com for all our travel deals and have recommended it to everyone I know. Lately I have not been able to access it on my computer. What is going on? I have no idea where to go for as good a site as this one for planning all our trips.
I used Kayak twice. The first time it was quite good experience. But recently I faced the problem when tried to rebook the flight. It took me three hours to talk to the service rep. It was stressful! You really need to do something about it!

Travel-Search-Engines.com reviewed several travel sites. In a 2013 rate comparison between Kayak.com and BestTravelCoupon.com, BTC beat Kayak on 85 out of 90 rate comparisons.
Both sites claim to search 100s of travel sites. But Kayak results tend to only post the large travel booking sites such as Expedia and Priceline. BTC searches more sites and posts better rates.
I still use Kayak to check rates but BTC is usually a better option.
My son (18) wanted to rent a car. I told him I didn't think any place would rent to him@ that age. He called Kayak & they told him yes & it would cost extra since he was 18. He paid his money, flew to Nashville & was stranded because the car rental place said they don't rent a car to anyone under 25. He called Kayak & they said they don't do refunds. He never received the services he paid for. I'm calling the BBB & he's disputing the payment to them from the bank.
Tip for consumers:
Beware.

Booked a room 5/23 around noon in vegas, check in was at 4.
Was memorial day weekend, went to check in only to find the hotel had been sold out for days. Called kayak, no help. We were charged for the room (207.58), but no room and Vegas was sold out. Ended up having to sleep in the truck, was the worst.
Don't waste your time with kayak.com
Site is slow and no guarantees. It's 5/28 and my money is still not back in my acct.
I am pretty satisfied with its service. I rented a car for 3 days to travel around Arizona. The service I was provided with was good enough. I've rented the cheapest car there and it was in great condition. No complaints to Kayak.
I use this mainly for airfares. It is usually my starting place to compare different airlines. The only down side is that it does not capture ALL airlines, most notably, Southwest does not come up. That's why it gets only 4 stars.
Stay away! We booked our flights through Kayak which actually was through an agent called Airfare. What a nightmare! We need to change the departure flight for one passenger (we're a family with a three year old), and the customer service was horrible. They have a complicated regulation that does not allow you to change your flight within the next 8 days of your original flight and you will have to change your return flight too if you change your departure! And they claim it's the airlines regulation where it in fact is not. Yes, we crosschecked with the airline. What a scam! Don't EVER EVER EVER USE KAYAK! And beware of a company called Airfare, they're scammers!
It was frustrating and confusing. When I finally made my decision it redirected me to a site I was unfamiliar with to make payment I couldn't choose the type of bed and by the time all was said and done it said there were only two types of rooms available and neither one would work for us
I prepaid for a 4 star hotel through Kayak only to find out when I showed up at the hotel that Kayak never confirmed my reservation and I had nowhere to stay! You can imagine the shock I was in and it was a busy convention week so I did not have many options. I ended up scrambling into a miserable other hotel that was half the price of what I paid for and they would not refund the difference of what I prepaid to Kayak. A terrible and unforgettable experience and Kayak has done nothing to make it right.
Kayak is a large price comparison search engine for travel. It has prices for plane tickets, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages. Kayak doesn't sell any of these services directly, but instead directs you to another site where you can make a purchase.
Ouch. Can you please provide full details at http://kayak.com/help/ so we can investigate? Jim Giza VP Technology, KAYAK
