Lumosity has a rating of 2.1 stars from 241 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Lumosity most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and auto renewal problems. Lumosity ranks 1053rd among Games sites.
I looked over the reviews on this site about Lumosity and got to say. Please let me sale you a car. If you took 4 sec to read the billing statements before purchasing the product, you would have clearly seen what the billing cycles are, and the options if you choose not to enroll in the monthly or yearly subscriptions. Has for me, I like this product, I've tried other free apps and for the most part. They tent to be the same mathematical questions, no shapes... etc. I'm only four weeks into the service and seen improvements with my way of thinking. Now, I and hope no one expects these games to make you a genius, but should help improve daily thinking requires.
Lumosity has over 100 million members, a lot of them, like me, signed up for the long term. That's why they can afford to cancel popular games with no explanation. I played Word Bubbles (classic) and Word Bubbles Rising almost daily, but never saw a banner indicating they were to be chopped, and they were not on the original list in the company's news flash. I believe Lumosity has done this because some of these games cannot be run without Adobe Flash, which pulled their service, and they would rather disappoint the customers than come to an agreement with Adobe. I'm very disappointed in the company, which, with this move, has proven itself to be just another business. They should at least have launched a survey to see who would be interested in having any proposed cancelled games saved. I now realise that Lumosity can simply close up shop, and lifetime members would have no recourse at all. I feel so upset it'll be a while before I return to the site. Caveat emptor!
(Not a native English speaker) A lot of negative reviews here, so I have to share my personal experience with Lumosity, to balance out this animosity. First of all, the most negative reviews refer to the issues with the recurring billing where the buyers haven't switched it off on time. Lumosity doesn't hide the recurring billing, however and it's clearly mentioned when you sign up. Now who is to blame here?
As for the games, I've been playing them since around two months 3-4 times a week (regularly!) and feel DEFINITE and undeniable increase in my brain power: I can concentrate better, type quicker, express myself verbally more clear and with less uhms. Also, as one of the reviewers mentioned in his report, I don't feel exhausted mentally after 8 hours of mental work. To say it feels wonderful is to say nothing. The games themselves are also so much fun and I never have to force myself to play them. Rather the opposite is true, and each time I anticipate playing.
Conclusion: when I hear about studies telling that brain games don't work, my brain just laughs, happy because of his increased ability to create great things in my life. If you want to experience a different quality of your being, give it a try.
Have had an account for 2 years now, have never had issues! It's great!
They release new games, new challenges and recently launched the mobile app. My Android phone runs it perfectly. (It's the first version of the app, there will be more games added soon it says)
I've track my progress, while the numbers say I'm getting quicker with better memory, I've actually noticed a change myself. People's names, driving directions, quick math, I've impressed myself sometimes.
You have to stay at it! I do it 3-4 times a week. Lunchbreaks usually.
If you stop using it, you'll performance will decrease.
Maybe this is where all the bad reviews come from... dumb people!
It will not make you MAGICALLY smarter.
As far as the price, I used to buy video games, $29.99, $59.99, $79.99, play them for 3 weeks and shelf them. Hundreds of dollars a year.
Now that I'm not a kid anymore, $60 a year for Lumosity, is easily justifiable.
You pay for a gym membership for special machines and equipment, but you can't fork over $60/yr for your brain. Oh gosh. I fear where the world is headed!
Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay sharp and keep their brain active.
I don't know how it could be a scam, you pay, and you receive a service.
I got my family hooked and we pay for a Family Plan. No complaints.
Honestly, they probably deserve around 4 stars, but since this site seems to be filled with people who don't understand basic concepts- like how to contact a business, how a subscription works, how to use an app-- or even how to write... I want to help them balance these idiotic reviews...
Look, I've used the site for a little bit- I pay for a monthly subscription and have had NO ISSUE bouncing between multiple computers as well as my iPad. Every time I sign in as me- it counts me as me and I can access the full catalog. Do I know for certain that it's helping my brain? Meh, maybe not as much as they say- but certainly as much as Brain Age on my DS did. The games are fun and quick. If you want something to play that may or may not help your brain but will always be working to challenge you- it's a decent product (not a scam... seriously? Do you honestly not know how to delete an app?)
If I had one issue it's that the whole set of games should be available on your iPad- especially for the price which leans towards expensive in my opinion. But other than that I'm entirely satisfied. I genuinely think at least some of the reviews on here are people who the app couldn't help if it wanted to.
People- if a company is legitimately charging you without your consent- file a claim with your credit card, it's not rocket science.
I would not use this site, my son signed up for a one month trial, when he went back to cancel it said that his Full access to Lumosity had ended and so he thought it was taken care of, when he tried to access his account there was NO information about a recurring payment. 5 payments later we are reissuing the debit card to stop the payments, and I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office.
I am stuck with playing only a few of the games because the instructions/demos for the new games are confusing or missing key elements. Whoever devises these games needs to learn HOW TO EXPLAIN them and/or DEMONSTRATE clearly! I realize communication is not the forte of gamers, but the company needs to rethink their personnel choices and have several different type thinkers on staff to troubleshoot games before they send them out to subscribers.
They took money from my credit card without asking. It was supposed to be some "auto reneval" of my subscription which I did not intend to extend. Stay away from this site!
Well I heard about this site from a friend of mine about 6 months ago, I tried it for free because why the heck not?
At first I didn't notice much, did not do it daily and mostly just wanted the benifets of membership and the opportunity to play more games.
Now I use it everyday and am consistently remembering more, using bigger words, making decisions easier and solving math problems FAST.
I am a free member now and without charging me a single penny Luminosity has improved my mental ability on several notable points. I may make the decision to purchase a membership a little further down the line but for now I am one HAPPY guy.
I should also mention that a lot of the problems people are mentioning on this website are issues with their application/internet/money etc. I work on computers and somehow all of mine work perfectly for this website.
Luminosity has no problems and the customer service is doing their job. Every time I read a bad review it is USER issues.
Give it a try for free don't just pay for it on the first day. I am six months in and still only considering a pay membership.
Took money out of my paypal account when i went to find what email it was on encase i made one while drinking so i wrote every email i had in the forgot password and all said no account but yet they are taking money out of my paypal EXPLAINED IT 7 TIMES TO THE PERSON WHOS $#*!ING STUPID STILL HAS GOTTEN THE I HAVE NO ACCOUNT WHY ARE YOU TAKING MY MONEY...
I've been using this site for a little over a year. I still question whether it helps or if it is only turning someone into a robot. I totally believe in exercising the brain, but that can be done in many ways and most likely for free. I was stupid enough to join, because I thought it would be easy and then I would do it. This turned out to be true, I was using it at least 6 days a week for about a year. Sometimes it just seemed repetitious. There was one game which I reached their top level and I would lose points for playing it as it was part of my training course for the day, which were many - I sent in a question on it and several days later received a response which pretty much said nothing. Hmm,,,, I guess they aren't really studying their stats.
Well, the real turn off is the customer service. You open a request, they hope you forget about it or it gets resolved on it's own, you then comment on the open request asking if anyone works there and finally an answer comes that provides absolutely nothing.
Is trying to deal with luminosity customer service a brain training exercise?
THE ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION IS NOT CHEAP, but their customer service shows absolutely no respect for customers purchase of their product. Very shabby way to treat your customers.
Regarding AUTOMATIC RENEWAL BILLING... you can uncheck it by reading the instructions HERE:
https://help.lumosity.com/hc/en-us/articles/*******-How-do-I-turn-off-auto-renewal-
There's alot to read so one must be prudent and not just click anywhere.
Hope this helps alot of you!
I am not rating this as I haven't signed up - yet!
Signing up for Lumosity now requires ongoing permanent payment UNLESS cancelled. Try cancelling! Lumosity refers you to a cancelling agency which charges $30. SHAME on Lumosity - this is an absolute rort and probably breaches consumer laws in most countries. AN ABSOULTE SCAM. AVOID unless you want to have regular payments from your account.
To be honest, I haven't tried Lumosity. I have been afraid that I would be come as smug and self important as the people in their commercials! Looks like that was a good decision!
Tip for consumers:
Ugh! Who would want to be like the smug egoists in their commercials?
Paid for yearly subscription. Used it for 1 month, then got a new computer. Logged in to game and to my surprise some games were locked. Said I had to pay for new subscription again. Rip off.
This site is such a scam, the ads are so annoying, keep poping up in sites playing automatically. I mean the games are fun, but don't really find it that useful. Stop scamming people.
Lumosity RENEWED MY SUBSCRIPTION WITHOUT MY CONSENT. WHEN I REQUESTED A REFUND THEY GAVE ME $59.95 instead of the $69.88! In the mean time my Bank of America charged me $35.00 for an overdraft fee. At the moments I live abroad tending to my elderly parents 88 and 89 years old - a mother with dementia and now Lumosity put me in a situation to call from overseas and pay crazy phone charges because when youre abroad you cannot use toll free numbers. It just doesnt work!
So. NO! Do NOT USE LUMOSITY! EVER!
And in particular one doesn't get a sharper mind by doing mindless things. When I hit a plateau on a game, I look for ways to play or look at the game differently.
BEWARE OF THIS CON
A scam and a rip off, once they get hold of credit card details it is too late.
I joined and was very unpleasantly surprised I made a complaint to Apple Apps about this scam.
Games that you get get free free on other sites.
LUMOSITY JUST A RIP OFF AND SCAM
I don't even have an account with these people but cannot get off of their emailing list. I've block their domain and addresses but they still get through! Anyone have an ideas?
They depend on people signing up and then not being able to cancel their subscriptions. I would not recommend this site as they are not honest business people.
I am so frustrated with this program I am thinking of asking for a refund! It doesn't work only about zone third of the time. Didn't have any problems until I updated it about a week ago.
I play it and my step daughters love to grab my phone just to play it. This is very useful to see how fast you brain can think. Ots great and im planning on doing a project on it.
Wish it could be no stars! Used it for a couple of months years ago, no benefit whatsoever - but autorenewal! And "help centre" is just a bunch of system-generated junk. Stay away!
I used Lumosity for about 4 months. I assessed myself with tests like Quantified Mind. There was no difference. I thought I was improving but I was only getting better at the games.
