This company has terrible customer service and the auto renewal is deceptive and a predatory practice especially since many MDs, OTs and PTs are recommending this particular service to people with traumatic brain injuries.
I never received an email saying my account was due for renewal or for auto-billing. I haven't used it in the last year and Lumosity refuses to give me a refund for the $99. Moreover, they didn't even offer a prorated refund for the remainder of the year. Worse than this, I haven't used this in over a year so I'm really owed 1.5 years of refund if this was a legitimate customer satisfaction-guaranteed business.
Lumosity also refused to answer their 800# as listed when my credit card company called them about my disputed charge.
I would not do business with this company ever again. If the science is decent it shouldn't depend on unscrupulous and deceptive business practices.
I have been using Lumosity regularly for a couple years after receiving chemo and radiation. When I first started I could not remember 3 numbers in sequence, people's names, passwords and some words.
When I use it regularly I notice a huge improvement. I'm up to remembering 18 numbers, 80% of my passwords (if I have not used them in a long time than retreaval is still hard) but the results pay off every day for me. If I take an extended leave from practice I notice this in my daily work. This program has been a godsend.
Their advertisement is not what you actually get. It's the same brain games, over and over again. It's really boring and predicable.
I paid for a one year subscription, and after 2 months got really board with it. Not a challenge for me anymore. I asked for a refund for the remainder of the subscription.
But, after 30 days they do NOT issue refunds. Not even pro-rated refunds.
They certainly didn't make that very clear. I expected the 30 day rule to apply for the month used, not for the full advanced payment.
My advice Don't purchase Lumosity! It's boring, repetitive and not customer friendly.
I will be telling everyone I can about my very bad experience with Lumosity.
I was into using Lumosity the first moths and my family showed interest so I upgraded to the family plan. My family used it for a bit and then quit. There was no email that the auto renewal and I had stopped using it when I discovered a cc bill for $130 renewal. I contacted them to at minimum downgrade to a single membership and a pro-rated refund but they wouldn't. Even thought I had my case escalated to manager they didn't budge. Honestly the games get boring and the more you use it the better your score gets. Don't know that you get smarter, but you might feel as so. If you sign up be sure to turn off auto renewal - they will probably offer you a deal at the end of your year to stay hooked up.
All of the sites negative reviews are not fair, the thing is:
Ive been on lumosity for two months, and I'm a student and I feel there's so much more I now learn, I havn't tried their custumer service, since I've had absolutely no problems with the website. But, as some reviews say it is thin on content to their mobile app. But if you feel like you want to train and get better you should absolutely sign up for their free trials.
Only giving one star for 2 reasons:
1) The games rarely change and are boring. Playing them every day became so rote and not at all brain-building that I gave up. Bought the family plan (stupid, stupid) and each of my family members came to the same conclusion.
2) They apparently buried the auto-renewal clause DEEP in the Terms and conditions (I am the freak who reads those things start to finish) because I never found it. In July AMEX alerted me to potential CC fraud - through process, couldn't see all charges from July - mid Sept until late September and found the $130 auto-renewal posted in mid-July. Their policy is they will refund if within 30 days. I asked for the refund under special circumstances (CC fraud/identity theft) but they flatly refused, even after escalation to a "manager", sticking strictly to their refund policy without consideration for my circumstances.
Would not recommend this to anyone!
Not worth payin. After one month you get sick of playing the same boring and probably not even effective cheap games.
Their customer service is pathetic. They just copy&paste "Unfortunately, policy, bla, bla, bullsh**" and close the ticket...
I kinda knew@ the start it was gonna cost me & I took a few " hits" lol until the I had to pay. Then I read some reviews about poor support. I hope they don't prey on "pay for a yr " bullibites... anyway,,, w/ poor service on a mo to mo basis of payment. I'll usually call the cc co and call it in as lost and have the #'s changed to prevent more billing,,, F the webiste
I broke my ankle last April. Luminosity was something that was able to make my time spent at home productive. My favorite part of the day was doing Luminosity. As a result of my constant use of Luminosity, I found that it actually repaired parts of my brain that gave me better memory, attention and problem solving abilities. I was great at speed and flexibility right from the beginning. As I progressed in the other areas, I saw great life changing results. I always wrote better than I spoke. The ability to slow down and do better in areas that I still struggled with, gave me the ability to speak better. I believe that in slowing down to improve my ability to have better memory, attention, and problem solving caused me to slow down before I spoke. Now I'd say that my ability to speak is more in line with my ability to write. I am coming off more like the intelligent person that I have always been in my ability to communicate. Thank you Luminosity!
Tried it. Wasn't that impressed but, I wouldn't have thought it was a scam. Just no one really used it in the house. Tried to cancel. They KEEP taking money out of my account (not just for the one month I signed up for). The latest is "we will refund you but, this is your fault because it was set up as auto pay" even though I tried to cancel on their site several times (There is no customer service line) then I finally just had to block there charges on my card.
They continued to charge my credit card for months after I cancelled my account. Refused to refund the money taken after I had cancelled even though they confirmed the account was closed. Stay away, buy a book instead.
I've been playing this for 8 months and it just gets boring because they never add new games and the games become increasingly harder and harder to where my scores keep getting lower and lower. If it worked like it's supposed to, I'd be able to keep pace with the increased difficulty. I've read other reviews here and have taken to heart what people are saying about Luminosity continuing to bill after cancellation, so I went into my PayPal and removed Luminosity from my allowed recurring payments as well as cancelling my subscription on Luminosity. I paid for a year, so we'll see what happens in April, but it'll be PayPal's issue if they pay Luminosity and I do trust PayPal.
I signed up, but all the games were locked for me unless I bought the premium package. I am sure they need income for their efforts, but I never saw or heard in the commercial that I would need to pay to play. Misleading to me.
It's a scam. Don't waste your money. I got hooked by the promotional and signed up for1 year, primarily in the hopes of improving my memory. I played the games every day for 90 days and of course my scores improved. However I didn't see any of that translate into real live. I didn't notice any improvement in memory, peripharal vision and the other skills they supposedly can improve. If I could get my money back I would.
Great games and friendly people. I've really enjoyed my brain training exercises. I know some people have had some bad experiences but, personally, I have no complaints. On the contrary, I've received great customer support and I've seen dramatic improvement on my Brain Power!
Hi;
I bought one year program from Lumosity 2 weeks ago. The games are great but i don't have time for the games. So i wanted to cancel my acount. They paid back my money in 2 days. In this forum; some people says; they don't refund their money. It's a lie. Lumosity is great and has quickliy solved my problem. Thanks for that.
My best regards,
Ahmet id..
This is the message I received when I logged in. This is after 11 months of use. Glad I did not sign up for another year.
In order to use Lumosity, you must be using a current version of Adobe's Flash Player.
Download the latest version of Flash Player.
(Ipad does not support Flash Player)
I saw the ads so I went to the website. I had to sign up for "free access" and then sent immediately to the subscription page. There was not even a sample page. I'd never buy anything sight unseen so this was a fail.
Started on a free trial for 3 days then decided to sign up. Used it daily and there was a noticable difference in my memory. Got up to 99% for my age group in this time and this combined with the A$15 each month led me to cancel the subscription. This was done with no problems.
I clicked on the unsubscribe button, but I need to login to unsubscribe. I don't remember my login or password. I've email asking how to get the login, no reply. You make it easy for people to try out the service, but not to leave the service. Why?
Answer: It has helped me remember phone number, people's names, gaming recal and password recall. It has improved my ability to focus, task change and use peripheral vision and direction. Hope this answers your question.
Answer: There is a free trial, but it is not indicative of the whole site. As with Brian S I can only underline what he says, and keep right away from it. Lumosity is actually run by Google, and I think it's more a case of information gathering dressed up as an online fit brain exercise programme.
Answer: Yes and yes!
Lumosity has a rating of 2.1 stars from 241 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Lumosity most frequently mention customer service, credit card and auto renewal. Lumosity ranks 908th among Games sites.
