Lumosity has a rating of 2.1 stars from 241 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Lumosity most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and auto renewal problems. Lumosity ranks 1053rd among Games sites.
I looked over the reviews on this site about Lumosity and got to say. Please let me sale you a car. If you took 4 sec to read the billing statements before purchasing the product, you would have clearly seen what the billing cycles are, and the options if you choose not to enroll in the monthly or yearly subscriptions. Has for me, I like this product, I've tried other free apps and for the most part. They tent to be the same mathematical questions, no shapes... etc. I'm only four weeks into the service and seen improvements with my way of thinking. Now, I and hope no one expects these games to make you a genius, but should help improve daily thinking requires.
Lumosity has over 100 million members, a lot of them, like me, signed up for the long term. That's why they can afford to cancel popular games with no explanation. I played Word Bubbles (classic) and Word Bubbles Rising almost daily, but never saw a banner indicating they were to be chopped, and they were not on the original list in the company's news flash. I believe Lumosity has done this because some of these games cannot be run without Adobe Flash, which pulled their service, and they would rather disappoint the customers than come to an agreement with Adobe. I'm very disappointed in the company, which, with this move, has proven itself to be just another business. They should at least have launched a survey to see who would be interested in having any proposed cancelled games saved. I now realise that Lumosity can simply close up shop, and lifetime members would have no recourse at all. I feel so upset it'll be a while before I return to the site. Caveat emptor!
The games are ok and while I do see progress, It's hard to justify such a price for a game I play for minutes each day. Every year, during renewal time, I find myself trying to justify the price to my husband and he's right... my reasons are not great. Recently I saw lifetime membership for $188... I thought, yeah I guess I'd pay $188 for life... turns out I had to pay the $119 first then $188 (it was confusing)... so it's roughly $300 for a lifetime subscription... honestly, that is ridiculous. I'm a teacher and I am used to curriculum fees even in light of this... the price is steep. I'll probably go with my husband's suggestion and just cancel, he said there are several other apps out there with similar concepts but cost less... It's frustrating though... I think it's a great idea and I'm just getting used to the games...
WORST. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. EVER.
I enjoyed playing the games. Whether my brain improved or not, is debatable.
Trouble started when I discovered that my account was being accessed by someone else. Lumosity was of no help. Even after repeated requests, they have not suspended my account, nor provided a refund. Utterly unhelpful customer service. They're blaming me for giving out my password to someone.
They lack the basic measures of security available on ANY website these days - lock the account after 5 incorrect password attempts. They don't have device authorization like Netflix or Facebook does.
Beware of what you're getting into. There is no way to contact customer service except email. And they take DAYS to reply.
Took my money and evading a refund now.
Tip for consumers:
Don't expect to get any customer service or any modern security measures on this website.
Study after study have been unable to prove mental improvement as result of playing electronic games. Lumosity claims differently. As much as I would like to believe them, I find their billing deceptive. I signed up during Cyber Monday, and they kept sending better and better offers, without making it clear that each offer is not independent, but added to the previous charges.
If their billing is misleading, how can one trust their claims?
That being said, their train game is both addictive and fun, for which I added one star to my rating.
I received a gift subscription to Lumosity as a Christmas gift from a friend. After playing it for four months, I don't see any real improvement in my brain function. Evidently, I got the most basic package because I only get about a dozen games to play over and over again--even if I don't like them--and once my workout for the day is done, I can't play again until the next day. Also, if I'm on the last game and accidently hit "next" instead of "play again," there's no way to go back. Very annoying. Some of my scores have improved and continue to improve, but others have stayed pretty much the same or even decreased. I don't see any real difference in my day-to-day ability to function in the world. When this subscription is up, I won't renew. There are enough free games on the web to play which are as good or better at challenging your brain than Lumosity's.
Signed up, didn't notice the policy stating that regardless of when a use may cancelled you will not receive a refund if it has been over 30 days. So if you cancel and there is 6 months of credit on your account, you don't get a refund. You are just up a creek. They push for the longer subscriptions and make them more affordable because if you cancel they just get to keep your money according to their policy. I think some agency should look into this issue. It was not readily apparent, they keep your money when you receive no goods or services and it should be illegal. Horrible customer service when attempting to resolve the issue. Don't sign up and warn your friend and family as well.
Lumosity.com are bunch of thieves. They got my friend's money(took the credit card info and all other information and after transaction was done) when he started to use the software, she got an error msg saying that her device is not supported. She tried to get customer support, no body answers the customer support line.
Also my wife registered to test the software as they advertise it for a month in a free basis, she was only able to use it for one day. But after that they are doing heavy marketing to sell her the subscription.
In summary if you are interested in brain teaser software look somewhere else. Lumosity are bunch of thieves.
Some of their games need calibrating properly, e.g. 'Train of Thought'. I have told them that when level 13 is reached, their calibration makes it impossible to go up to the last level. I have tried so many times I have lost count. If they were calibrating train lines in real life, then there would be multiple crashes, people unable to get on the trains because they whizz past stations etc. etc. They need to experience the real world when devising these games, then they would know how to set up a game properly. I have complained several times now, and to be honest, they just suck as they assure me of this that and the other, but never make the necessary changes. Yet want me to give them the thumbs up for their customer service!
I love these games. I recently retired and wanted to exercise my brain on something besides crosswords puzzles. The site lets you play numerous types of games that exercise different skill sets. I signed up for one year and they made it very clear that the amount billed was for a year, even though I bought a discounted monthly charge. I could also check that this was not automatic renewed.
A friend shared this website with me a couple of weeks ago. The site contains games that are designed to train your brain. You can train on things like learning to remember names and faces, performing math calculations quickly in your head, remembering where things are, and improving your vocabulary. They offer a free trial, and if you choose to become a member it is reasonably priced. It is a fun way to improve basic mind skills.
I was due to retire and so would have time on my hands. I treated myself to a lifetime subscription after trying the games for free. I'm 67 and have reached the top (92%) of my age group. I'm aware that my scores are likely to gradually decrease as I age but I will be happy as long as I remain over the 50 percentile for my age group. It also encourages me to keep up my keyboard skills. My grandchildren play Lumosity and it's fun and interesting to compare our scores in the different categories. Don't take it too hard if you get a low score - you can always try to improve next time.
Lumosity has a bizarre refund payment policy and will NOT provide any refund for purchases made through the App Store!
My husband & I both subscribed (by mistake) and they won't refund one of the payments.
Crazy!
I am a professional boxer and I mainly concentrate on attention, and within 2 months of playing attention games my reflects gotten seriously good that I can barely get hit in the ring now. 100 thumbs up
Bull$#*!. Says you get a free fit test, you fill everything out, then the only option is to pay for the full thing. What a load of crap. Only reason its 2 stars not 1 is the site is pretty nicely made and seems quality in that regard.
Each category only has a few games. They're flash payer games that are boring and redundant. I feel like I got all I could out of this website in just a few days. After those few first days, I haven't logged in since. As for billing, I quickly cancelled the auto renew without any issues. This service is just not worth the money. I got a couple puzzles from the dollar store and have been enjoying that much more.
The work in and of itself is great, but do not bother buying this service. If you have a problem with anything that Lumosity has, they will not even attempt to give you a helpful solution. Lumosity will only tell you to stay at their website longer and play more games.
TL: DR - Do NOT purchase a subscription, the free version is just as sufficient.
Read a lot of negative reviews here. I just had a great experience with them. Didn't know I had signed up for automatic renewal of a family plan that only 1 person was actually using. They quickly corrected the problem and issued a refund.
I signed up for one month to try out the site, and the games were fun but I decided not to renew. A few months later I was still seeing Lumosity charges on my credit card, apparently signing up for 1 month means paying forever unless stated otherwise.
I liked the site but would not recommend it to anyone else based solely on their shady billing services.
My account was charged $80 without my authorization. When I found out, I contacted their customer service about the unauthorized charge. They responded by email saying the best they can do is not to charge me again next year! I am very disappointed. I thought they are a reputable company. I should not have trusted them.
I tried Lumosity for a month and decided to go ahead and get a year subscription. I was under the impression that I was going to be paying 5.22 per month. When I looked on my bank statement, Lumosity had taken out the full year price! I have tried to contact them by phone (the phone # is: *******502), but I get nothing but a voice message saying that they will get back to me within 3 days... nothing! I have attempted to contact them through their website, and hit a dead end. What kind of customer service is this? Where is the respect and loyalty any decent company would extend to it's customers? I want nothing more than to get free from these people! They are disreputable, and creepy.
There might be some value to this application, but their customer service is so terribly poor that it will have you wishing you could deal with a non-native-speaking, off-shore customer support person instead. If there's any possibility you might need some help with this program... don't sign up for it!
I liked the brain exercises and used for a long time. Eventually stopped though. Saw bill on credit card last year for recurring subscription. Called Lumosity and miraculously spoke to a real person. They refused to remove the charge, but said the would take me off recurring billing. Fast forward one year and they have charged me again. Now, it is impossible to get a real person on the line to discuss this. Working through credit card company to reverse the charge. Despite what I think is a good product, this is a criminal operation and it should be prosecuted accordingly.
I signed up for 12 months of Lumosity in 2020. Without any email contact, they used the same credit card details for the next 3 years, 2021, 2012 and now 2023 to debit us. This card was out of date for the following years but Lumosity still used it to charge us. I have not used Lumosity since 2020 but we were still charged.

Don't sign up for Lumosity

I purchased this app and used it for a number of months. At the end of the period it renewed withouit my permission. Beware! When I told them via email I did not want to continue, they told me they never charged me. The charge of $64.95 appears on my credit card statement. They can't find it. Either they are not a reputable company or they have customer service people trying to scam users.
I signed up for the "free" trial and got a $63.74 charge. I denied that charge a year ago and told Lumosity to remove me from their site. Now one year later I got charged their renewal fee of $60+. I have again denied this charge and told them they do not have permission to keep my information - period.
Interestingly, I sent them a rejection email via their site at around midnight and got a reply within 60 seconds that they would undo the charges -- they obviously get so many rejections and they have programmed an auto-reply.
I signed up for Lumosity in May of 2014. I thought the $14.95 was a one-time charge. In fact, it's $14.95 per month. That is not something I saw at all, and feel it's more than a little deceiving. Took me two more months to really see the charge (yes, that's my fault). Though, I also feel that it's what Lumosity counts on -- that people won't notice/investigate that small amount coming out of their bank account. Lumosity refunded ONE month of $14.95 when I complained to both PayPal and Lumosity directly. I guess the other month was the price for lesson learned. Yup, I guess you could call that Brain Training of sorts!
