Lumosity has a rating of 2.1 stars from 241 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Lumosity most frequently mention customer service, credit card, and auto renewal problems. Lumosity ranks 1053rd among Games sites.
I looked over the reviews on this site about Lumosity and got to say. Please let me sale you a car. If you took 4 sec to read the billing statements before purchasing the product, you would have clearly seen what the billing cycles are, and the options if you choose not to enroll in the monthly or yearly subscriptions. Has for me, I like this product, I've tried other free apps and for the most part. They tent to be the same mathematical questions, no shapes... etc. I'm only four weeks into the service and seen improvements with my way of thinking. Now, I and hope no one expects these games to make you a genius, but should help improve daily thinking requires.
Lumosity has over 100 million members, a lot of them, like me, signed up for the long term. That's why they can afford to cancel popular games with no explanation. I played Word Bubbles (classic) and Word Bubbles Rising almost daily, but never saw a banner indicating they were to be chopped, and they were not on the original list in the company's news flash. I believe Lumosity has done this because some of these games cannot be run without Adobe Flash, which pulled their service, and they would rather disappoint the customers than come to an agreement with Adobe. I'm very disappointed in the company, which, with this move, has proven itself to be just another business. They should at least have launched a survey to see who would be interested in having any proposed cancelled games saved. I now realise that Lumosity can simply close up shop, and lifetime members would have no recourse at all. I feel so upset it'll be a while before I return to the site. Caveat emptor!
This company gives you daily brain exercises. For this service they ask that you pay for a year in advance. I did pay a year in advance and after 60 days realized this was not going to be a positive thing for me. The programs would not download to my Apple and I was in a daily struggle to download. I did receive their assistance explaining what to do to enhance the download process but it was a daily event that I could no longer deal with. I requested my money back for the 10 months I will not be using this program. They refused. What can I say. They scammed me for $40.00. I would not pay for this program for a year if you have any doubts about using it for they will not refund your money.
I subscribed to the premium version and one month later I emailed them to ask if I could convert to the family plan and how the price would change. I got a detailed email saying they would reimburse the unused portion of my premium plan. So I converted to the family plan and they refused to reimburse me IAW their own email. So... beware! They rip you off, even if say they won't. They don't honor their promises.
Paid for a family membership - entered the emails of my family - they never received the invatation to join and lumosity stopped responding to my request to add family. Terrible customer service! Probably a scam!
My wife was a subscriber to lumosity, she passed away over 2 yrs ago, i unsubscribed from them about 2yrs ago or so i thought?
I had not heard from them for 2yrs then on my last credit card statement they have taken $98Aus out, NOT HAPPY! Sent them emails etc no response! Had to cancel my card, what a pain in the arse!
I will be telling anyone who talks to me about them about my disgraceful experience with them!
Tip for consumers:
DO NOT sign up unless you want to have to cancel your credit card!!!
Lumosity website cannot be used on Apple mobile devices, since it requires Adobe Flash Player. This is a platform NOT available for these mobile devices, and even Adobe had abandoned Flash Player for other mobile devices. Disappointed, H. K.
I am furious with this company. I thought the cost was a one-time fee. They auto-renewed my service during a time when I was not watching my bills closely due to my husband's health problems. When I called them to cancel, they said I was on the hook for another year. I do not believe they provided fair or adequate notice at the time of the original sale or at the time of the renewal. Someone should sue them over this as I believe it is intentional. Given the characteristics of the population to whom they are marketing, it is especially aggregious. Also, it is highly questionable whether science even supports this crap.
I am an on/off user of this product, think i have purchased the first subscription in 2008, when their prices were a bit steep (i. E. Eur78pa), then again in 2012. I recently got another package at half that price and bottom line is that i have no complaint whatsoever. I was surprised to read all the negative feedback on this product; i don't play their games every day or even week as they'r tend to be a bit doll so i didn't get addicted to them; but i've definitely noticed some cognitive benefits and overall i take it that the monthly price i pay (from the41Eur pa offer) is bearly the price of 1starbucks coffee, so no real worries here!
Started using Lumosity when I was having memory and concentration issues. I went from 23rd to 91st percentile in a few months, but my memory and concentration in the real world have not improved. Most of the games are boring. Some depend on the equipment used for example "Eagle Eye" is much easier to play on a small screen. My score can double when I use my laptop vs. my 26" screen. What's up with that? At best Lumosity is a timewaster for people who aren't into computer gaming. At worst it is a total scam.
The site is great brain training seems to be working on helping in my daily life.
I have only one complaint and its a big one, if you don't complete your daily training before 11pm pacific it rolls over and credits your work for the next day robbing you of day you just finished, this wouldn't be a problem but it goes against a yearly subscription which in itself is stealing from the customer. When they fix this problem i would be happy to recommend their site to anyone, it also has feature for those with ADHD, cancer recovery, PTSD and other mental illness to help strengthen the mind.
IT has already helped my issues with remembering names a faces.
Sneakily took out another annual subscription, seems the way these days.legalised theft. My one voluntary subscription only applies to one device so beware.
Like many others who have written here, I can only reiterate: STAY AWAY from these
Con artists! Customer service is a joke! Payment information for those who already have an account is a lesson in futility. DON'T BOTHER!
I signed up for an account an immediately began getting daily spam from two other sources. Its obvious to me they are selling their contact lists. Not cool.
I really liked Lumosity and still do, but there are many games that I could play before with no access now. Very disappointed in this. Am quitting my subscription for sure!
I signed up for a Lumosity family package. After paying it has a perpetual message " We cannot process your application at the moment"
Regretfully, transaction went through, Called my credit card to cancel so that i do not get recurring charges and will DEFINITELY CHALLENGE THE PAYMENT MADE.

POOREST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE UNIVERSE! Don't try to cancel an auto renew that THEY sign you up for. It will take more than I accomplished giving birth 3 times! I am still trying to get a decent answer from an online person because the phone messages I left have not been returned. Do NOT waste your time, your money, your brain on this company.
Good mental work out, but if you use an I Pad there are very few games. They are so far behind the trend away from computers. Not worth money on an IPad!
Lumosity urges people to Log in to see what it's about. When you log in, they say they need us to set up an account. Then, as another reviewer says, after a few games, you discover that you have to purchase a plan to use it. This is HIGHLY DECEPTIVE. Next come the email messages asking if we forgot something and "to FINISH" the purchase of a premium plan when there WAS NO attempt to purchase anything. Again, at least one reviewer has reported the same problem.
If you just checked it out and found yourself purchasing a plan OR being CHARGED illegally for something you didn't purchase, I URGE YOU TO CONTACT YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE. If enough people report this HIGHLY deceptive advertisement practice and possibly illegal practice, they may be forced to stop.

In October 2021, I just tried to see how Lumosity works, but in every step, the pressure was enormous to subscribe with payment - and? Their subscription renewal is automatic! I subscribed on Oct 28,2021, paying $47.20; through - Google Play. Soon I became frustrated as it did not seem to work for the purpose it claimed to work.
Meanwhile, I saw on the Internet that Lumosity had been fined millions of dollars as its claims to enhance brain function were false, as the experimental results showed.
The games are nominal - no brainstorming as in other proven games like Sudoku and so on. The game I had tried most was about the twenty-nine train. Towards the beginning, the trains are too slow; at the end, they are extremely fast, making the game useless to brain exercising. I wrote them to adjust the trains' speeds to make the initial ones faster and the later ones slower. They said they would look through it in a reply, but they did nothing.
I don't think they would refund my one-year subscription, but I stopped the automatic renewal from being on the safe side.
From my experience, there is no reason for me to recommend this expensive app for any user.
Some of these games were obviously made up by men, especially the spatial details games which give you very little info & NOT ENOUGH TUTORIAL on how to play B4 testing you. Very frustrating! Hope you get more women developers on board soon. Also I'm guessing ur comparative results r NOT very accurate since ur not showing results of men & women separately. NEWSFLASH: womens brains are different than men's and we learn and think differently.
My last update was in 2018.
As mentioned in previous updates, I had lost significant access to cognitive functioning and memory recall from my accident in 2007. I began using Lumosity to see if it could help restore some of my cognitive reasoning and processing abilities that I had lost due to the accident. I didn't hold high hopes when I first started as the games seemed a little silly and repetitive. When I realised that they were like musical scales, which are designed to assist musicians become familiar with the instrument and musical scores, as well as aid in developing muscle memory, I was sold and it has worked, 100%!
Around the time of my last update I had been on trial working for a media company and over the past 2 years I was promoted to more senior management positions in the company. I can definitely thank Lumosity for that.
Last year, as my work load increased I was not able to keep going with my exercises. That was a mistake as I eventually noticed a marked decline in my ability to multi-task and recall information quickly. I have now returned to Lumosity and will post the next update some time in the future. I am currently 61 years of age.
I still read a lot of negativity about Lumosity in the reviews, possibly due to people not reading the fine print on signing regards their subscriptions, but if you want to improve your memory, reaction time and recall, I would definitely recommend this program.
Cheers.
I wrote my first review on Lumosity in 2011 after 3 years of using their programs. I have read lots of reviews about their billing process and even though, unfortunately, this has probably hurt their reputation a little, I have continued to use their service and I will tell you why.
In 2007 I suffered a serious accident to my neck and lower spine, but it also caused some neurological damage affecting my memory. I lost the ability to recall words and remember information and facts when under pressure. My doctor said I would be in a wheelchair within 5 to 10 years and my psychologist and neuro physician said I would probably have memory loss and impaired neural function for the rest of my life. In 2018 I am walking, I have full use of all my limbs and even though I still suffer from some nerve damage and pain, my brain has repaired itself through using Lumosity's neuroplasticity training program. Please note: I am not an employee, associate or family member of Lumosity, and I have not been paid to endorse or recommend this company. I have had no contact with them in the 10 years I have been a member.
I was a concert musician before the injury, so I was used to practising regimens. I tried quite a few programs before settling on Lumosity. I have followed their schedule and training plan diligently and did extra exercises in the skill areas where I was down in my percentiles. Hard work has DEFINITELY returned good results. I thoroughly recommend this program to anyone suffering from memory loss, cognitive impairment or perhaps has suffered a brain injury, due to an accident. The brain is pretty amazing and can repair itself if exposed to the right conditions which, in my case, has also included nutrition, plenty of water, exercise and regular visits to the GP for monitoring.

By all means, try the other programs out there but Lumosity is the best for me. I will probably continue to use this for the rest of my life.
This is just a personal opinion.
3RD UPDATE
This is is my third update since joining Lumosity 6 years ago. I am now in the top 99.4th Percentile for my age group 55 - 59 years. My memory, perceptual acuity, peripheral vision, reflexes and the ability to multi-task and keep focused are as good if not better than when I was at my peak in my mid 20's.
I have tried them all and also having read some of the other reviews on here from people not happy with the outcomes, I definitely disagree. You have to use this regularly like having breakfast. Our minds need food as much as our body needs water and nutrients. Lumosity challenges you and the other big difference I have found, particularly for my age, is that I am not tired in the afternoon or weary minded by nightfall. Everyday I strengthen and re-enforce the critical pathways to help neuron transmission.
15 minutes is the minimum and daily use is recommended. Just like reading the newspaper. Take your time and help yourself for your eventual senior years. I dont want to get Alzheimers or Dementia. I am grateful for Lumosity.
2ND UPDATE
I have been a member for 5 years at the time of this writing. (see previous review underneath) I have been using the program almost every day. I spend no more than 10 - 15 minutes. (you have to exercise the mind, same as you drink water). It is definitely not a rip off. People get lazy if they don't see results straight away and then give up. For me, at 57, I have seen improvements in my peripheral vision, my mind reflexes are faster. I can calculate quicker. I am retaining good word knowledge and feel bright during the day after using it. They didn't pay me to say this. It is fact!
1ST REVIEW
(I have been using them for 3 years. I am 55 years old and found their site fantastic and has helped my brain performance incredibly. I paid monthly for 1st 2 years, now pay yearly. It fits my budget and quite affordable; have never been ripped off. Their service contact can be a little slow but they do have over 500K users.
I have tried other sites, paid and non-paid; for the moment Lumosity has my confidence.)
Lumosity's business practices are among the worst I've ever experience in my entire life. Upon first giving them a try I knowingly did everything i could to prevent AUTO-RENEWAL. At the end of the term I stopped getting daily reminders then out of nowhere I began getting them again in August. Turns out they AUTO RENEWAL happened in April. I contacted them only to get standard "sorry too bad" email. No phone call, no credit even for unused portion.
VERY IMPERSONAL and very customer adverse. It doesn't matter if a company has a good product or not if the customer service is beyond poor - in fact preditory!
Save yourself the agony.
One of my favourite mind training websites. It never gets boring! I like that I can see the progress of my training and that the variety of games is amazing. I enjoy seeing my score improving steadily. Before gving you the daily task they ask you about your mood and how much sleep did you get, it really effects the results. When I came to know about this service I bought one month full access which was not that expensive ($11). I loved how they chose taks for me and I was satisifed with my results. However, after that month I use the service for free and can also use it every day. Howeve, I no longer have access to all the the games, which is sad as they are really great. Thinking of buying the full access again. Importatnt - when I made the payment, they set my account to auto renew, it meant that they were going to charge me every month. Be sure to cancel that option in your settings if you want to pay for only one month.
Tip for consumers:

STAY AWAY FROM THEM
Signed up for 1 month. They kept on taking money every month. When I called them the answer was we have an "auto-renew'. Notthat it is a seperate questionthat you must reply to. I was then billed the next month again. I am at present fighting to agt a refun. They have said they will not refund.
Just measures how much faster you can play the same old games. Only thing I use it for is to see how focused I am on a particular day or time of day. Mind game? Mindless fun is more like it.
I loved Lumosity and subscribed for 2 annual subscriptions in the past. I recently renewed my subscription through iTunes not thinking about any "terms & conditions" difference between doing it through the browser or otherwise. I had fun and quickly decided I wanted to upgrade to a Family Subscription. Lumosity's "Family Subscription" links took me to my account page where there was clearly no option to upgrade. After digging I found a page indicating that if I signed up through iTunes I should send an email if I want to upgrade. So, I sent an email and I was coldly told that no upgrade was possible if I signed up through iTunes and "Ashley" advised that I should disable auto-renew and just wait till my current subscription expires. Then I can upgrade to the family plan. Well, thanks to all the Lumosity training my brain is working well enough to know that it is a very stupid suggestion to wait 12 months for my subscription to expire to add the rest of my family because Lumosity's management doesn't have the flexibility to accommodate a long-term customer who renewed under the wrong platform and wants to upgrade and buy more from the company. The crass answer from the "help desk" left such a bad taste in my mouth I just want to drop the whole thing. If I had just signed up through a browser or Google Play, I could just cancel within 30 days and get my money back. Or, if I had just gone with the monthly plan... no problem. But, a good customer ready to pay a year up front, and then even more to include the rest of his family... F$#@ You!
Tip for consumers:
So, after writing my original review, a different representative followed up with me and worked out my problem. I wish I didn't have to go through this issue with iTunes, but I really have to give Lumosity credit that once I got through to a person that cared, my whole issue was indeed worked out.
