Martha & Marley Spoon has a rating of 1.2 stars from 130 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Martha & Marley Spoon most frequently mention customer service, blue apron, and credit card problems. Martha & Marley Spoon ranks 97th among Meal Delivery sites.
We have tried pretty much all of the meal kits out there, but Marley Spoon has the best recipes and the largest menu to choose from every week. The meals do require some cooking skills as the timing is sometimes off, so you have to play it by ear. There a lot of reviews about missing boxes, which has happened in the past for us too. They use UDS which sucks, but they have always reimbursed us for the missing boxes and the customer service was beyond helpful. There hasn't been a meal that we haven't loved, and we are pretty picky. Give it a chance!
Beware these guys are cunning and relentless! Firstly to see their menus you need to put your credit card in. I was shopping around for this type of service, and although I promptly exited the site after reviewing the recipes, it automatically signed me up to a reoccurring order. Now here is the catch…. Once you receive your first order, by the time this is delivered your second order is locked in! So if you receive it and decide to cancel you still have an other order on its way, even if you haven't selected the items it will have preselected it for you! 6 days before my second order (the first one went to the wrong address) I asked for a refund and they refused. It went towards my next order of items I had never selected. We went back and forth all week. I was so shocked by their inability to assist an unhappy customer, I eventually threatened to go to the media. They didn't back down instead sending me the fine print that I signed up for before I had even laid eyes on their product. This company should be ashamed at their lack of integrity and willingness to accept or admit that their service is borderline predatory and filled with trickery. Lastly, when you finally do go in to cancel your account it says that doing so will remove any existing discounts, therefore incurring additional costs on your already committed order. How rude!
The first delivery was bad and so were the two that followed. First they were not delivered to the door and delivered upside down. The box clearly says "if you can read me, I'm upside-down. Second they are poorly packed, not all items are in the bag they are just thrown in the box. Third, the quality of the food is not great. The proteins usually arrive warm, even with ice packs in the box, ice packs that squash the food, since they're delivered upside down. This is a waste of time and money, since you have to throw away the items delivered.
Marley Spoon is great until it isn't. I had a box that did not arrive on time. When it did show up, the ice was melted and all of the protein was warm to the touch and not safe to eat. Getting help is a bit of a challenge. They will tell you what you want to hear and then not deliver. They listen to the complaints, sound like they really want to help, tell you they will be sending you an email and that email never arrives. When calling there is also a very good chance that the call will be disconnected. I find it hard to believe *******@marthastewart48 would attach her name to this company.
Had an issue with delivery. Package was opened and some contents missing. Sent an inquiry to customer service only to get an automated reply it may be 72 hours to hear back. I Canceled account due to questionable status of perishable contents. Got response offering $15 credit on next order. They acknowledge acct was canceled but sent another package anyway. However, they charged the full amount. Sent another inquiry only to get the exact same response, as though it was automated. They never addressed my complaint, never refunded the original amount and never even refunded the $15. Wish I checked on reviews before subscribing.
First clue that this was shady was that my credit card was charged before I was even able to choose my meals. Then box arrives day late - and ewww! Its full of some kindof disgusting, mushy mess. So my advice: save your money and the aggravation -- and just go into your neighbors garbage can... its the same thing!
I used to order with them more than 2 years ago - I moved to my new address. I reinstated service with them. I updated my new address within 2 minutes of reinstating my account. They are saying that I needed to manually change the upcoming orders to my new address. It makes sense for the system to automatically update the new address for all future orders. They are only willing to give me a 50% refund.
Tip for consumers:
There are other meal delivery services out there. This one rubs me the wrong way and is disappointing they are fighting to do screw their customers over. They could have refunded me $37 and I would have ordered with them permanently. Instead they keep $37, have me open a PayPal claim, have me put them on blast online, lose a customer, and have that customer never recommend them.

We were very excited to try what we thought was an upscale box kit. We couldn't have been more wrong.
The first meal was missing the sauce that was supposed to come with the chicken and the broccoli that they sent was spoiled/rotten. So that meal was white rice and dry chicken. Super Blah.
Second meal was pretty good -- took over an hour to make, but nothing to complain about.
Third meal the corn they sent was spoiled/rotten. So the final meal was a small piece of pork tenderloin and red cabbage. Super Super Blah.
The biggest thing that bothered me was the fact that their customer service simply couldn't care less. They have the same attitude as if I would call Martha directly.
There are MUCH better options out there that won't have you scrounging for food after you fix your $90 box.
I received my first box all my vegetables were very moldy and the ice pack exploded all over the food. I called costumer service and they offered me a $12 credit to use on my next box… Which I don't think is very fair as I paid for a box that wasn't edible, and he did literally didn't care and just seemed annoyed I called. So I went ahead and wanted to cancel and was given attitude!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t buy it

The quality of Martha and Marley spoon is very good. A few days ago I wanted some marth and Mali spoons and in due time I got my ordered things. Their service was very good and service holder of this site was friendly to us.
Dear Marley Spoon, please do not sent emails after I have unsubscribed! I was a costumer for a while but stopped my order for good when I moved to another country. While I am successfully unsubscribed and can't do anything more than that I wish you would respect not to send any more emails.
As for the product: It was excellent to have the opportunity to choose out of I think 15 different dishes each week. However after a while those options felt quite similar. The food was of good quality and only once did I receive a box where the products where unfresh.
So aside from unwanted emails I all in all think the company does well and provides a nice low-cost service which can be trusted. They deliver on time and their notification system for delivery has never failed me.
Received my first shipment from Martha and marley spoon. I ordered 3 meals with 2 servings. I was so looking forward to one recipe in particular and well ingredients were missing. Actually the main ingredient was missing. The recipe was for fish tacos and yep no fish!. I called the company and they said they would refund for the price of the item missing. The finally agreed to refund for the whole meal since you cant make fish tacos with no fish! Meal pack included tomatoes that aren't ripe. Not happy at all and cancelled subscription.
I enjoy the meals. The quality is very good for the most part. My order 2 weeks ago was missing an ingredient, not a large problem. I overlooked this. My last order was missing the recipe cards. I can access the menue on line which solves the cooking problem but I would like to have the hard copy cards. I have requested the twice now and have not been able to
Have customer service send them.
They seem to prefer arguing with their customer rather than make any attempt to satisfy their customer. Again the food is
Good but their customer service has a east Germany attitude and seems to relish in their ability to show their customer who is the boss.
Three meals received. One of the meals inside the box was not what we ordered. All three meals were missing ingredients. All three meals included old, mushy vegetables. No recipe cards were included in the box itself. It was as if a toddler packed the box. Martha Stewart should be ashamed to have her name associated with this company. This was our very first box. Subscription quickly cancelled. Advice? Go elsewhere (and not to Dinnerly, as they are a subsidiary of Marley Spoon). Ick.
I was really excited to try Marley Spoon, I'm a huge fan of Martha and the selection was really impressive. I occasionally order from Hello Fresh but find the selections limited and redundant and find the up charges for the decent choices annoying. The first box I got from Marley Spoon was missing a meal, the second box was missing 2 meals and this week I didn't get my box at all. Really too bad, the three meals I actually received were really great but talk about incompetent processing! As much as I enjoyed the few meals I got and all the choices available I couldn't recommend them to anyone.
Don't trust the quality of the food they send you I've had three boxes with spoiled food, one of the ingredients was basil and the smell was so rotten I had to throw it out immediately there was no way that spoiled in transportation that was already spoiled weeks before I picked the order.
I was a member for 8 months. Every week something was either missing, rotten, cold packs were broken all over everything. In the winter all of the fresh vegetables were frozen and unusable and in the summer the cold packs are the same temp as the outdoors,, my last order my burger and steaks were cooked in their packages, my frsh veggies were burned. I work hard for my money and couldn't see paying money every week for something I usually ended up throwing away.
Poor customer service & quality food
Of the six different meal delivery services I've used over the past eight years, Marley Spoon by far is the worst— in quality, customer service, and price (for what you receive.) I blame myself for "assuming" that a meal delivery service with Martha Stewart's name would equate to quality; but I was definitely proven wrong and should have done my research before signing up. Now I've been charged for a second week today and cannot get a refund even though some of my products from this week's box were wilted, scant or just unacceptable. When I chatted with a live agent I basically was told it sucked to be me, and I should have cancelled as soon as I received my first box. (He/she didn't care that I had to be out of town the next 2 days.) Oh, and I changed my following week's delivery date to 2 days later which didn't make it any better for me either!
If you are thinking of trying this service out, I highly recommend you think otherwise. There are several other ones so much better!

Meal delivery service
I signed up and I received my first box. Some of the produce was bad and there were notable mistakes…(turkey broth instead of beef broth, etc). We actually generally really enjoyed the meals, despite being disappointed that the ingredients are all just thrown in a box together.
Now it's time for our second box. It doesn't arrive. I call customer service who tells me that "as soon as the delivery service contacts them with an explanation, they can email to help me." I'm also told my box still might be delivered and everything will be fine. Because of our working hours, it mostly certainly will not, and the box was BARELY cold when I got the first one in a timely fashion.
Your delivery service is not my problem. Why does their response hinge on how you can treat me as a customer when you can already see that my box didn't ship. I took time out of my day to call you to try to resolve my issue, and now I get to wait to see what happens based on your contractor?
Mistakes happen. If they do, make them tight with your customers. We might have been willing to try a third time, but not anymore.
So I've tried them all hello fresh and some! Martha and Marley spoon hands down #1 the flavors omg so good and the meals literally take me less than 30min to prepare! Martha definitely got some soul in her dishes my favorite is the chicken schnitzel ref cabbage but all of them has been sooo good! Dame I was supposed to take pictures before hand lol oops my bad it shouldn't be so good!

I have used blue apron for the past few years but wanted to try something new. THis was not a good choice. Every single meal was missing at least one ingredient. Also, they don't include all of the ingredients like blue apron does (whtie wine vingear for example). The worse part was the produce; it was bad every single time. Old, dried out or containters not appropriate for the produce and it was ruined. Yesterday, the bread was moldy ( and it had been in the refrigerator the whole time). WIll go back to blue apron. Martha should be ashamed of this product!
I would not recommend it to anyone. The meals came1 day late and all ice was melted. The bags were wet and ripped. Ingredients were all over the box. Even at that the veggies were not good quality. Not impressed and disappointed. Needless to say we canceled the subscription.
I stopped following recipes in Martha Stewart Living because there was always an ingredient missing or a step not written. Martha and Marley Spoon continues this tradition. I have had Sumac Rubbed Salmon with no salmon, Shawarma -spiced chicken bowl that has a cover photo with falafel, and includes two cans of chick peas but no instructions of what to do with them except "mix them with the chicken (no falafal)." Although it is a fun game to "find the missing ingredient," or "how do you get from a whole cucumber to Tzatziki," at $10.00+ per serving I expect a little more. M&MS is consistent in that every week I have to spend more money to replace ingredients or entire meals, the customer service is quick with an apology but no resolutions.
Had an entire box delivered with sauce that had exploded over EVERYTHING!... contacted customer service four times and all they would refund was half the price I paid! Not one entire meal was salvageable! Customer service representatives are patronizing and USELESS!

none...all of the food was covered in a greasy, sticky sauce
The recipes and selection is subpar. Everything is mediocre at best except the customer service. Which, quite literally, blows $#*!.
Don't try contacting them cuz zero $#*!s are given. After pausing my subscription and cancelling any box forthcoming I randomly had an order process that I received no reminder for. I couldn't cancel it despite it being processed today?!
They "don't wanna waste food" so they can't do anything about it but I guess they don't care if it's wasted and goes right in the trash offsite/at my home.
Underwhelming.

We left blue apron in high hopes for something a little better. This is not that! Is Martha trying to pass her prison cooking skills on or what? I can do better with ramen and salt!
My wife and I have tried almost all meal kit delivery services. I decided to try this one and to be honest the recipes and variety of options each week are great. We had some really great meals and they are pretty easy.
Now the bad part - they have the worst quality assurance in the business. Most boxes are missing ingredients. We've been sent the wrong ingredient bag (one for a different recipe). And finally the straw that broke this camel's back, they only included ingredients for 2 out of 3 recipes in our latest box. It was extremely obvious and I don't know how they could have missed it - there was a ton of empty space in the box with the missing bag.
Finally - the garlic. Oh boy. They include a whole head of garlic for every recipe that needs garlic (and most call for a clove or two). The good thing is we haven't had any problems with vampires lately, but we literally have about 10 heads of garlic in our kitchen with no clue what to do with it!
Sorry Martha, you may have great recipes but this just isn't working anymore. We'll be saying Hello to something more Fresh ;)
