Reviewers complaining about Martha & Marley Spoon most frequently mention customer service, blue apron, and credit card problems. Martha & Marley Spoon ranks 97th among Meal Delivery sites.
We have tried pretty much all of the meal kits out there, but Marley Spoon has the best recipes and the largest menu to choose from every week. The meals do require some cooking skills as the timing is sometimes off, so you have to play it by ear. There a lot of reviews about missing boxes, which has happened in the past for us too. They use UDS which sucks, but they have always reimbursed us for the missing boxes and the customer service was beyond helpful. There hasn't been a meal that we haven't loved, and we are pretty picky. Give it a chance!
Beware these guys are cunning and relentless! Firstly to see their menus you need to put your credit card in. I was shopping around for this type of service, and although I promptly exited the site after reviewing the recipes, it automatically signed me up to a reoccurring order. Now here is the catch…. Once you receive your first order, by the time this is delivered your second order is locked in! So if you receive it and decide to cancel you still have an other order on its way, even if you haven't selected the items it will have preselected it for you! 6 days before my second order (the first one went to the wrong address) I asked for a refund and they refused. It went towards my next order of items I had never selected. We went back and forth all week. I was so shocked by their inability to assist an unhappy customer, I eventually threatened to go to the media. They didn't back down instead sending me the fine print that I signed up for before I had even laid eyes on their product. This company should be ashamed at their lack of integrity and willingness to accept or admit that their service is borderline predatory and filled with trickery. Lastly, when you finally do go in to cancel your account it says that doing so will remove any existing discounts, therefore incurring additional costs on your already committed order. How rude!
We looked at other food services, and most of the recipes weren't appealing. We're very happy with the food and recipes. We did call and complain about a ground pork substitute that also leaked (was supposed to be shredded pork, (but there was a supply problem) and got a rep on the line right away who credited us for the meal. Also we didn't like the dried oregano that they sent which had no aroma (we have never seen this with out other meals). Other than these hiccups, great food, recipes, generous servings, and great customer service. Maybe they have addressed the concerns that others have posted.
Tip for consumers:
The food is delicious, great ideas such as using 1 oz of cream cheese + 1/3 cup of water to make a cream sauce, some work is involved, worth it!
They were quick to charge my account, but before delivery date they were already charging for future deliveries. No deliveries ever arrived. Customer service was unresponsive by mail and when I called they blamed Paypal (which showed the payment.) No food. No refund. Impossible to quit. You decide.

My food never arrived. Customer service is practically non existent. For whatever reason they are refusing to issue a refund. They did offer a credit even though they could not provide a difinitive date for if or when the food would be delivered. I am currently disputing the charge with my bank.

Through email, customer service promises a 24 hour response to an inquiry. You will most likely never hear from them again. The discount on my first order was never applied and I had to go through my credit card to appeal the charge. Bad experience.
Missing ingredients in ever box. Takes a week for customer service to even reply. Then they try to allow a $15 credit on a future purchase despite not sending the meals you were charged for and no meat to cook. Worst I've ever tried. Cancelled.
Tip for consumers:
Don’t! Use other meal services.
We probably had 20 deliveries. Mostly okay but sometimes had to spice it up. The last one was a day late. The meat was still chilled but all of the vegetables on top... kale and romaine were completely yellow, mushy, and brown. I asked twice for a complete credit and or refund but the most I was offered was 15 dollars. Have cancelled my service for good.
I ordered Marley spoon 2 weeks ago food was good. I didn't realise that Marley spoon automatically takes money out of my account. I called to say I don't want the order as I've already done my shopping for the week I got told by customer service it's to late they have already started the order I am left with no money now what am I to do. This is day light robbery I'm so not happy never again will I order from you
I was excited about this service, however, with the customer service treatment I have received I would suggest not ordering this kit.
I ordered this kit a week ago with a code from their website. Earlier I had signed up and browsed but never purchased the subscription. My order was cancelled today less than a week from the first box's delivery date and I was told that a member of my household had used the code and it cannot be used at my address.
We never have used this kit before.
I sat on hold with a rep for 30 minutes who told me that nothing can be done.
Predatory pricing hidden behind rules they make up. Purchase this kit at your own risk. They should have just called and told me to pay more or cancel.
I have tried several meal preparation products. This is my third and by far the worst. Basically, what you are getting is an order put together as a jumbled mess. Other companies separate each meal into individual bags for each separate meal not Martha it is all thrown together as a bulk order of items and it becomes your problem to figure out what is needed to complete a meal, for preparation. The cost is crazy plus $12.99 for shipping. To try and cancel your account is a real hassle.
Tip for consumers:
Don't bother.

Blood from meat was all over items- photo below is after rinses of many items - box was opened and damaged- food smelled spoiled- food traveled a week to me- -package was late - I canceled immediately 3/20 the day I got 1st package since I was suppose to have time to try it but they claimed it was to late to cancel although I had just received the first box late 3/20 - so they stole another week of my money after cancellation and sent another box that was again…late. I called them and wrote them daily with no results - eventually they refunded money for the first box with blood but still kept $180 for the box I never authorized- that traveled a week - was destroyed - please don't buy from this company - food should never travel 4 -7 days in a cardboard box and expect it to not be ruined. All I wanted was to part ways gracefully but they took money 3/27 after I canceled 3/20 - before I even received the first box - they locked me into another week. Terrible
Tip for consumers:
Please don’t use this meal delivery system- I assumed with Martha Stewart being the face that it would be better- please don’t make this mistake - The packaging of food is not safe for you and your family to consume

Cooked one meal- not sure of the refund policy but they reimburse me for the first box
I ordered a week to try and as not going to be home for the following weeks due to an emergency called to try and cancel as I saw that there was money out of my bank account (then I realized you are on a membership). It is now Wednesday and as the delivery is NEXT Monday called to cancel to be told it must be 6 days... Customer service told me that they could donate my meals to a charity or send somewhere else... so not happy
I would not recommend this service to anyone. I tried to setup a food delivery as a gift for Christmas. There is no gift option for one! I tired to contact them and I kept on getting emails that stated we will respond in 72 hours and continuously asked if the problem was solved. Obviously NOT, since I was not able to talk to anyone there! I setup a gift under my name but provided my friends address. The delivery was late and missing most all the ingredients. What was delivered was pork chops which were not frozen and the box was leaking liquids!
Tip for consumers:
Don't use Marley Spoon

This review is for the lower priced line called Dinnerty. For three (3) weeks box comes to someone not me listed at an incorrect address. That street number does not exist, our house used to be a two/family so Fedex dumps it on the planter/that we have blocking our unused stairway. I've emailed customer service/sent photos of the labels. Customer service said that they found the account/boxes on pause until they contact her--then the third box was delivered. Told me they emailed customer no word back and cannot cancel. Due to Pandemic I don't want to waste the food/but not safe to donate either. I actually googled and gave customer service 2 possible addresses and a cell and I got a Dear Sir/that's not customer policy email form again. Sigh/I fear I shall have these boxes showing up until this person finally calls and cancels. Sad part is they probably won't get their money back. From my experience with them as a good samaritan--this is awful/stay away.
If you have a problem with an order— I have had missing items and undelivered orders —forget about getting any immediate help. They don't answer the phone and you might get an email response in a few days. They just don't seem to care. Sloppy packaging, inferior ingredients, recipe missteps. Doesn't sound like Martha Stewart, does it? Completely unreliable. And I believe on other review sites, the 5star reviews are phony.
I've had multiple delivery failures with Marleyspoon. I find this out by calling. Nobody from Marleyspoon lets customers know that their box will not be delivered. I used Hello Fresh for 5 years and this NEVER happened. I will most likely return full time to Hello Fresh. The recipes are really good, however the ingredients are thrown together in one box so everything is messy, wet and completely unorganized. You spend a good bit of time sorting through it to make sure you have the correct ingredients for each meal. Again, Hello Fresh wins again because each meal is organized into a paper sack. No leakage and time saved! Marleyspoon you need to get all this right. Huge disappointment!
We wanted to try several different meal prep options to see which was the best, (I thought wow...Martha Stewart, she judges on "Chopped", so she must know what she's doing!). This was one of them. NEVER AGAIN! The food was horrible, and the amounts of each ingredient to add, were simply too much, which made the flavors in the dish inedible! My daughter had ordered it, and brought a meal over to fix together. After we tasted it, we both realized that the food and well as the instructions were off...by a LOT, and we didn't want to subscribe. She tried to cancel, but they kept charging her card, (she expected maybe one more, then it would be done, but no...). She finally had to cancel her card to stop it from happening again. I do not recommend this meal prep service. It just doesn't taste good. Thank you.
I freaking LOVE Martha & Marley Spoon. This is my first meal kit and am on my 4th week. We started out with just two meals but quickly added a third after our first week. Every meal we have had has been wonderful restaurant quality tasting food. The recipes take longer than they say on the card, but I don't mind as the quality of my meal is worth it. Really unexpected flavors and ingredients and I am extremely pleased. The selection of meals is excellent and they have the American comfort style meals I enjoy and the international meals my husband likes. All of our meals have had the correct ingredients and good quality produce. I will add I have not had any of the shipping issues others have complained about (knock on wood). Maybe the Atlanta area has a better delivery service than others. I hope they are able to solve some of their logistic issues as they have some really talented chefs and have helped me enjoy cooking again.
Tip for consumers:
I looks like the main issue is the delivery service. Maybe state the area or closest city you live by to help others decide.

Some e-mail got lost and the system chose random entrees (including ingredients which I can not eat) for me for the week when I am out of town. I got in touch with customer service about canceling my delivery for that week and that was the worst experience ever. I contacted them five days before the delivery, yet the representative refused to cancel or change the order. Moreover, rather than providing any explanations (really, what can be a problem with not sending my box?), he instead kept blaming me and writing that it was all my fault. There was a glimpse of something constructive, when he offered to redirect my delivery to the place where I will be physically on that week... only to discover 15 minutes later, that it is actually impossible.

Love my Marleyspoon deliveries. The choice Of menu options are right up my alley. The only issues I have had is my not reading the prep steps carefully, but even then the meal was wonderful. I am in a home Of one so I can usually with most choices have two meals and which means less cooking for me. One night I ate both pieces of chicken in one sitting. Thanks Martha and Team.

I'm not even a picky eater whatsoever, but I had the absolute worst meal of my existence. I made the meal and none of my family could even choke it down; we ended up going out to eat. When I wrote the company, and I didn't mince words, they offered me a $5 credit. I will never forget the slop they tried to pass off as a meal and will never order from them again.
Received 2 boxes with Marley Spoon and both boxes had spoiled items in them. The first box, the green beans and lemon were both moldy and for one of the meals I was supposed to receive grape tomatoes and received a beef steak tomato instead. The meals were very bland and I was not impressed at all. The second box had molding grape tomatoes and wilted spinach. I contacted customer service and they were extremely rude. Will not be purchasing any more boxes
MOLD! Box arrived, opened it, pulled back divider to get to cold items and it looked like someone vomited in the box and the vomit molded. It was disgusting! I called Marley Spoon. Rep said it was the insides of the paper insulation which is a type of insulation and that the food was safe to eat. He said this happens on occasion. Really? I'm not touching it much less eating it. No refund was issue. Got an "oh well" from the Rep. Canceled my subscription. Will never use Marley Spoon nor recommend. Epic fail Martha Stewart!
These meals are not worth 1 star in quality or value. Beef was a cut I couldn't even recognize. It was 1/2 of the size of a deck of cards and full of chewy muscle but lot's of blood everywhere. What's with the package of blood? Even after it was full cooked, it was still bloody. The chicken was okay if you don't mind it being paper thin, somebody else got the other 1/2 of my chicken breasts. Potatoes were literally 2" in diameter and only one per person! They were less than a kid's serving. Grossly lacking in quality. These meals will NOT fill you up and are not worth the price. Don't waste your money.
Just don't do it! Run far away!
The site requires a subscription prior to you being able to see the recipes and then before you know it, you are on the hook for the first week of meal delivery - prior to seeing what they have to offer. I wasn't able to choose my recipes and was stuck with recipes that contained stuff I am allergic to. I tried cancelling in less than 5 minutes and it would not let me. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops and hurdles to get customer service to agree to cancel. Time will tell if they refund my card.
Martha Stewart like is the only way I can accurately describe the meals that are sent through Marley spoon haha. I tried them for several weeks mainly because I had coupons, and honestly that's the only time I try these food service companies. The ingredients were very fresh and the packaging was fantastic, the directions for the meals I chose that particular amount of time or a little more on the complex side because I'm not a novice cook. But as is with anything that Martha does the instructions were clear and the presentation was fantastic.
