I am soo pleased with the job that Ben and his helper Bob have done! He is polite, courteous and conscientious! He has worked efficiently and effectively in digging and planting new borders for me! I love my garden more than ever. Great price. Great service and a lovely person too. Would not hesitate to recommend him... next year I want him to return to re turf the front lawn. Thanks Ben!
I posted an ad on MyBuilder then selected a roofer to install some Velux windows in my house, based on them having decent reviews. Roofer stated he needed a down payment to purchase the windows, which seemed reasonable as it was approx £2000 worth. Roofer has now done a runner and it's only too late that I've looked into what MyBuilder claims is a verified review process: there's absolutely no verification required and anybody can claim to have hired a contractor simply to put reviews on there. Cost me £2000 to find that out
Found a wonderful builder on My Builder, he made a such a lovely job of my front garden wall I would recommend him to anyone looking for a builder.
I had three responses withi a couple of days of describing the work I wanted doing. I found a quality builder, thank you.
Where to start? I posted a job on MyBuilder.com. I had a leaking kitchen tap, a bathroom tap whose washer needed replacing and a hard-to-flush toilet. Plus my boiler needed servicing.
I got a response very quickly and looked up the persons profile and reviews. He had 100% positive feedback from over 100 reviews, so I thought he seemed ideal.
He did replace the tap washers satisfactorily and stuck a gas-monitoring probe in the boiler flue (but didnt do much else with the boiler). He then cleaned the magnetic filter attached to the piping beside the hot water tank. Since then there has been a small leak coming from the piping, but this is the least of my worries!
This is the moment when it turns into a horror movie... The Toilet (rated 18; contains scenes of very bad language and severe emotional stress, coupled with thoughts of plumbercide)
Had I known it was just the diaphragm in the siphon that had got a tear in it I would have been tempted to try to do the job myself - oh, the brilliant irony of hindsight! - after all I couldnt have made a worse job if it than the so-called plumber did.
Basically, he took a functioning, slightly-temperamental, toilet and has left me with a leaking, no-can-use toilet with an unsecured cistern. He actually got me to go out to a plumber merchant and buy a replacement siphon diaphragm as the new siphon he thought would fit the cistern didnt. What a trusting mug I was. He replaced the flush (which was fine) with another that was too high for the cistern and propped up the cistern lid with a lump of blu-tac. Great if youre going for the asymmetrical, this-toilet-should-be-in-a-skip look. Not so great if you actually want a functioning toilet that works.
In summary if I were you I would avoid MyBuilder.com at all costs.
My work was done very perfectly the guy was very nice clean work very good to deal with would recomend him
Highly reccomend Direct Property Maintenance, job well done and very quick and very good price. Good father and son team.
I have posted two jobs recently and found workmen for both. One has successfully been completed andcthecother job booked in.
We've been with Mybuilder for 6 months now and YES my husband has made money from it ( it continues to be the most 'reliable' way of generating money of the two sites we belong to ( Google ad words being the other) but it is far from being without it's down sides! The site has alot of vey questionable policies I'm afraid, that see's tradesman like my husband constantly feeling ripped off, without really being able to prove they really are being. Mybuilder holds it's cards very close to it's chest with bare minimal explanation anywhere on their sites of how they ACTUALLY work. You feel very much in the dark. Main bug bearers are-
Shortlisting. Shortlisting. And Shortlisting. When you show an interest in a job and the customer returns an interest in hiring you by giving you their contact number - this is shortlisting. Problem is several others can be shortlisted along with you ( which means all of us getting charged the lead fee- great for Mybuilder! Ketching! And great if you actually GET the job BUT 9 times out of 10 you DONT get the job. You'll find yourself chasing up the customer feeling like you are coming across desperate ( which generally you are chasing work. Der) Only to be told "sorry I've found someone else" You are left feeling dejected and pissed off. And hey that lead cost £5.80. Just one in a long line of lead fees that then mount up and up getting billed to you weekly. It's demoralizing and you end up feeling ripped off by both the customer AND Mybuilder.
Basically I think that Mybuilder needs to make it very clear to the customer that by shortlisting someone they are entering an agreement that means they have to give each and every tradesman they shortlisted a fair opportunity to quote to them. (and that ideally they will not look elsewhere on other sites! Although I realise this sounds a tad militant). We are continuing with Mybuilder for now but are looking at going on Checkatrade as this really is becoming an issue for us.
Easy site to use which I have done for a number of years now. Probably the best of its type
As the title suggests and if you can use a computer and phone go for it.
Recently joined my builder as a tradesmen and let me tell you that its a complete rip off from a traders point of view. You have to bid for a job and you are not guaranteed to get the job and the bids are little ums like £1 or £2. They vary from £20 to £30. You arent even guaranteed the job and cant even speak to the job poster to ask simple questions. You are literally bidding for jobs you wont get and can easily rack up hundreds if not thousands of pounds. If you are shorlisted for the job then you have to pay the money but the problem is the job poster shortlists a few people and unbeknown to them you are paying for it evetrytime.
Its just daylight robbery and shouldn't be allowed. They should be investigated as its just fraud. The bidding amount should be minimal and if shortlisted and verified by the job poster then also pay a minimal amount. Why not just keep it as a standard fee every month just like check a trade.
THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY SO KEEP AWAY FROM THEM. YOU ARE BETTER OFF PAYING GOOGLE FOR SOME BUSINESS.
In all times I have used MY BUILDER I have been totally satisfied, cant praise them enough very happy
Hassle free and quick selection for someone to do one-off jobs for you.
