“Worst of the worst, trash and biggest scammers”

I just won't recommend them to no one! My monthly payment is $28 but I get charge $40 for late payment. When you are ready to make a payment they are unreachable. And they also keep blowing your phone... it actually a true nightmare with the credit care synchrony bank.

“Buyer Beware!”

Jason C.

This lender has lowered my credit on two occasions. I had finally gotten my credit up to good standing after going through a divorce where my ex-wife ruined my credit. I got remarried and lost some weight and went into a Belk's to get some celebratory new clothes. They asked us if we would like a card to establish better credit and we agreed. Initially, they gave me a credit line of $800.00. We spent $300 that day and got some new clothes. When I got home, I set up the account and automatic payment. For a few months, I made payments on the account and brought the balance back down to $550. Then I got a letter from Synchrony Bank stating they lowered my credit line to $550. Then, because of what they did to me, my credit dropped 40 points into needs work. I had never missed a payment, on this card or any of my credit accounts. I called Synchrony Bank and they did nothing. I also called the credit reporting agencies and though the agent was validating, they could do nothing. It took several months to get some of my credit points back. Then, this morning, they lowered my line again to just over the balance I had paid down, to $466.00. I am going to pay off this card and never use it again or shop at Belk's ever. Do not apply for a Belk card because Synchrony Bank is a predatory bank that messes with people's lives through credit. Buyer beware.

Like everyone else, I too am having the same issues. This is a warning to all who reads this to not do business with them. We financed through SB and I had many frustrating issues setting up the account (login fails, convoluted website, phone tree maze, rude customer service). I set up automatic payment AND paid an extra month just to be safe. Well, two months later I get a notice that I'm late in paying. How is this possible that automatic payments are late you ask? Well SB canceled my autopay and never told me. Not only that but I have a $30 late few, an interest rate of 26% (I was told there wouldn't be an interest rate for the first year) AND a hidden $160 monthly insurance fee that I was clueless about. All the extra money they charged me was over $650. When you contact customer service all they try to do is collect money and not fix their issues. They are a cesspool of bottom dwellers. I have taught customer service workshops before and know where business put their value. SB is all about profits over people.

Terrible company, terrible customer service, and terrible communication. Closed my account when I never missed a payment. They said I was sent a letter--never came. I called in and spoke with a representative that hung up on me after taking awhile to provide a simple explanation, which also didnt allow me to leave my Customer Survey (how convenient). The representative was also saying that the letter was sent but had trouble finding my account details and the reason for the closure? The only silver lining is the purchase on my card was 0% APR for a certain period and luckily they've not made a single DIME off me and never will. I will tell all my friends, family, acquaintances, and anyone I ever see in a GuitarCenter Store or using MySynchrony services to close it or to avoid them at all costs. Closing the card dinged my credit for a closed account, and in turn, increased my credit utilization. Can't imagine they'll be around too long if this is how they conduct business and treat their customers.

Find literally any other credit card or financing option

Anyone who is considering a credit card through Synchrony Bank, strongly recommend to reconsider. They isse cards affiliated with Lowes, Belks, Sam's, Care credit to name a few. After getting issued two cards through Walgreens and Sam's Club, I found out this Bank thinks its okay to rerun your credit without your permission and lower or raise your credit as they feel. My result dropped my credit score for adding extra inquiries and lowered my credit making my credit percentage higher on overall credit also making my score drop. I have had these cards almost a year, NEVER HAVE I EVER MISSED OR BEING LATE ON A PAYMENT. I have been a perfect consumer. Less than 175.00 balance on both cards and never been to the top end of credit limit. BBB reports they are not accredited and over 2900 complaints of the same action as I am stating. I think all these companies should select a new bank to handle their card services.

Up until recently, I thought they offered a great card to help with pets and emergencies, and I would recommend them. Now, however, I will tell every person how they left me high and dry when my father passed away and I ACTUALLY NEEDED a little extra cushion. I have never missed a payment or been over limit, and have barely carried a balance on the card over the Last SEVERAL years. My father died last year and I am in the middle of taking care of his estate. My score was above 800 two years ago but has dipped seeing as I have high utilization (as you would in an emergency) and I was using my care credit for groceries to get by until probate settles up in a month or two. I was at the store and they declined my purchase and I called to find out why( no notifications from their app, or mention of this decision, beside a hidden letter deep in my app messages) They cut my credit limit from over $3,000 and left me with an available credit of $37, rather than $2,037. Still only $1100 on the card, still have yet to miss or be late on a payment... they just saw my utilization go up, and they dropped me, in my biggest hour of need. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone ever again, and will spend my time instead telling everyone what an unethical credit card company synchrony bank (care credit) is. They could have made a little more money on interest from my purchases even. I will NEVER use their company again, and encourage those who are curious to find a better card. One that won't turn its back on you as a customer if you actually have to *gasp* use your credit card during a stressful financial situation. You guys are literally the worst. Thanks for nothing. I sincerely hope whoever made the decision to limit my account that way, for no other reason than my utilization being high, comes up empty handed in their greatest hour of need. I guess this is how they keep stepping on our necks so we can't breathe. Shame on you.

This "bank" is complete garbage. In case you aren't aware, Synchrony is the credit lender for a lot of stores, including Lowes. I have excellent credit and considered signing up for a Lowes card. However, after my experience with Synchrony Bank I will forgo an account with them.

After the Equifax data breach, I froze all credit bureaus to prevent fraud. In, what I believe to be an intelligent option for consumers, my credit bureau will provide a unique ID number to me when I temporarily unfreeze my accounts. I can then provide this unique ID number to any creditor of my choice and it will alert the credit bureau that this/these particular creditors have the authorization to access my acct. It gives me, the consumer control over who has access to my account and who doesn't. However, Synchrony Bank said they would need my account completely unfroze (i. E open to any creditor or fraud) or they couldn't process my application. This made my decision very easy... I will not be a customer of Synchrony Bank and I will not have a Lowes Credit Card. Synchrony Bank, imo is a hack of a bank.

My Dentist recommended CareCredit to me which is a Medical credit card issued by Synchrony Bank. I found the customer service to be lousy and the process for getting their credit card outrageous. The Better Business Bureau should look into this company; because I feel there is something serious wrong with the way they approved individual's credit. I was given an address to file my complaint and I plan to do exactly that. They were requesting me to do a VIDEO of my face along with a copy of my driver's license. I refused to do a Video so I was given an alternate method to verify my identify by completing an Affidavit of Identity, which had to be Notarized by a Bank or Credit Union. I had the form Notarized by my bank of 30 years, and on my own attached a copy of my Driver's License. The Synchrony bank tried to speak to the notary but she never answered her phone and it was suggested I should call her. She is a bank notary and I don't know her, I can't make her answer her phone, plus the bank has a copy of my license and credit report. I ask them to send me the Denial Letter and I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Synchrony Bank. This has been the worst experience and no one should be treated the way I was treated.

Synchrony Bank recently closed 3 of my accounts with them and this decision was completely unwarranted. I had two Guitar Center cards and one Levin Furniture card. I found out about this through a push notification with Credit Karma. I am more so concerned about the Levin account. I called into customer service and the first representative I spoke with was extremely rude. He told me a letter was sent to me and he read the text of that letter. He eventually hung up on me. The reasons for my closure is completely bogus. I understand I agreed to their terms and conditions upon opening the account, but that doesn't mean I can't dispute their decision. I called back in and spoke with a friendly rep who transferred me to a supervisor. The supervisor told me it is impossible to reinstate my account, although reading some of the other complaints on BBB it seems they did reinstate other accounts for people. She gave me the corporate address to which I mailed a letter. I also filed a complaint through the chat system on their website. They sent me an email a few days letter with another letter that basically said the same thing as the first one. It was a do not reply email address so I couldn't send a response back. I
Have made every single payment on time for all 3 accounts that were closed, I had these accounts for years! It's no wonder why these guys have a 1.9 BBB rating. Closing your customers' accounts for bogus reasons is terrible customer service. I will consider my complaint resolved when all 3 of my closed accounts are re-opened. Until then, I will continue mailing letters and filing complaints with customer service.

Please beware of this Scamming Bank! They are worst then the payday loan stores. I went to get furniture and I wish I paid cash. Yes it was under a 12 month "promotion" but no one said it was going to be the worst decision I made in a long time. After the promotion they charged me $770 in interest on a 850 balance that I had left to pay. So I called Synchrony Bank and the first thing she says is that I was in a deferment account that was holding the interest for the last 12 mos if the balance wasn't paid they they tact on all that interest from the first day I left the store "HUH" How is that a promotion that sounds like robbing the less to pay for your homes and cars Brain Doubles (CEO). I never received any notice about the change because when I was at the furniture store they never told me about a deferred account of interest. And it doesn't show on my contact that I signed about a deferred interest. I understand interest sure but 750 in one month and I'm not late and I have been making extra payments. This Cannot be legal. Never will I EVER USE THIS BANK FOR ANYTHING...Please go any other way but this way Discover, Capital One try them do not go here if you want your money.

It is highly unfair that Synchrony Bank continues to raise the APR consistently on my account, over the span of 4 years, even though I have a good payment history. Recently, I discovered that they raised the interest four times in less than a year which makes it difficult to pay off the balance. Throughout the years, I had to escalate simple requests because their customer service reps would not follow through. Twice, I encountered issues with my promotional balances and my payments not being applied correctly. After 4 years of being a Walmart store credit card customer, I have decided to close my account to not be subjected to any further interest increases and pay off my balance accordingly.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the CFPB.
Their escalation specialist was unhelpful, apathetic, and rude. It is clear that they do not value their customers and will continue to raise their customers' interest rates without any justification, no matter if they have a good payment history or not. Last year I encountered several issues with this particular store credit card and it was only after I escalated my concerns to their CEO, that my concerns were actually addressed. In my opinion, their copy of my credit card agreement is vague especially pertaining to account closure. If you read it thoroughly as I have, the wording is confusing and no where does it state that if you close your account that you will still be subjected to increased interest rates. Their reps continue to state that it does when clearly it does not. I foresee a class settlement since they're shady and unethical. It is not a coincidence that many of their customers are dissatisfied with their customer service and many feel that Synchrony Financial should be investigated for their ridiculous interest increases. Furthermore, they actually lied in their rebuttal stating that I was requesting a 0% APR on my account which is ridiculous. As I consumer, I have every right to inquire about their unfounded interest hikes. As many customers have stated, they are a joke. I have no desire to speak to anyone from Synchrony Bank regarding this review.

Recently, I went on a business trip. I decided to use my synchrony card and paid the balance down to zero, so I would have $1,000 to use for my hotel. I spoke to them a couple of days before the trip to make sure that they knew I was traveling, so I could use the balance to pay the hotel. When I got to my destination, my card was declined. I discovered that within the past two days they had lowered my credit limit to $100. I did not have another credit card with me that had a balance over $1,000, so I had to get assistance from my husband to help me pay the hotel bill. It was an embarrassing situation. I later found out they had lowered my credit limit, because they said I didn't have a mortgage payment. I have paid my mortgage off.

They said I had too many credit cards and they thought my balances were too high. My balances are 48% average of each balance. I had paid their account on time...never gone over the credit limit, and I had paid the balance down to zero. I'm feeling I am in a world of credit, where a person of good income and genuinely paying my bills on time.does not have a lot of recourse for something that I feel was unjust in this situation. So I'm posting this review here, if you can avoid using Synchrony Bank.avoid them. They are related to JCPenney and other major credit card accounts.

This is a terrible company that lowered my credit limit unjustly. The failed to give me proper notice that they were lowering it. They said nothing to me 2 days before when I called them to tell them I was doing my trip.
I was embarrassed, stressed, and I had paid their credit card in an exemplary matter. I paid at least $100 each month when the payment was only $30, and I had paid the balance off. Perhaps that's what they didn't like, that they couldn't make enough money off of me..

I wish I could gice SUB ZERO stars. Horrible company that is a glorified mob outfit that sends you bills with contract information you think you're getting but the information disappears on their screens when you attempt to pay or clarify a bill. Excessive charges accrue for no reason. Incompetent staff and they hang up on you. Full of lies and deceit. Do NOT finance through this company. Avoid at all costs. I had 2 years to pay off a furniture bill with 24 months deferred interest. Synchrony conveniently didn't have that contract when I tried to pay the bill off 7 months early and didn't honor their promotional offer of differed interest which is what they put in writing on the bill they sent. They had excuses as to why they didn't have that information and told me to mail a dispute to another department which is another cubical over. No one apparently in that department has a working phone, starlink, 5g, satellite, email, or morse code. NEVER USE THIS SHADY UNFIT FINANCING COMPANY. THEY ARE SCAMMERS.

I financed Clear Correct retainers (orthodontics) through my dentist and unfortunately they were partnered with this bank. My experiences with this bank have led to general research and discovery of what a lot of you already know. Much of what's already been stated by others is the experience I've had with them as well:

* Technically deficient website and processes that lack acknowledgement of being in the 21st century
* Website is designed to be frustrating and hard to use
* Overcharged interest at the time of promotional expiration
* Customer service is inadequately trained and unprofessional; I was hung up on several times
* They will rerun your credit as often as they want, negatively impacting consumer credit scores
* They will close cards without communication or reason, negatively impacting consumer credit scores
* They will reduce your credit limit below your balance, negatively impacting consumer credit scores

In my case, after paying off ~50% of my original balance, the promotional rate expired and I was hit with interest charges totaling ~45% of the entire original purchase price. The interest charges were much higher than the rate calculations on the original balance - even considering the worst period of compounding daily. When I inquired for an explanation of the charges I was met with an untrained and impolite support staff. Multiple times I was hung up on, etc. Synchrony has absolutely mastered the art of fatiguing their customers with arduous processes and difficult-to-use support systems. They are not accredited by the BBB and their are thousands of 1 star and negative reviews across many renowned review sites; Best Company, Sitejabber, Consumer Affairs, TrustPilot, etc.

I strongly discourage anyone from engaging with Synchrony Bank; they are corrupt, dishonest, and run a very shady business that is arguably borderline illegal.

I called synchrony bank on January 5,2023 to withdraw my cd account and closed it, because the maturity date of my cd account was december 23,2022. The first representative that was telling me that I have to pay the penalty for the amount of $40 for closing the account. I didn't know that they automatic renew my account even though without my authorization. She even told me that they send me a letter which I never got it. I was so upset, so I had to disconnect and think what to do my account. 10 minutes after I made a phone to them and I spoke another representative. This man from the synchrony financial I informed him that I want to closed my cd account and I want to know how much I have to pay the penalty. He said I have to pay for $85. I was shock because the amount for penalty was changed. I told him that why the charged changed the amount so I demand him that I want to speak your supervisor. I spoke to the supervisor and I told her that I never give any of you authorization to renew my CD account. She said since I didn't make a call or email to them my account will be automatic renew. She said that we have to charged you for $85 to closed your cd account early. I said i never sign up an automatic renewal and I never get a letter that you guys send by mail and why charged change from $40 to $85. The supervisor asked me "who said we send you a letter by mail"? And who said that charged for penalty is $40"? I said to the supervisor that I spoke the first representative before I talk to you. So the first representative person that I spoke was lying to me. All information that she provides was incorrect. Then Supervisor was starting an apologize the for incorrect information. Synchrony is freaking Scam! Cannot trusted anymore scumbag!

This so-called bank is atrocious.

Spouse opens an Amazon card, then backed by Synchrony, with a 750+ credit score. Physical card fails to arrive, but card or statement are required to set up online management of account. They charged some initial fees (annual? Prime?), so the card started with a balance that we didn't know about - so that in combination with inability to login, resulted in a missed payment on my spouse's perfect record. Called service several times and they would not provide account info without us having the physical docs, but gave us the mailing address to remit payment and told to reference his SSN? Round and round we go to get a replacement. Three months later, we're making blind payments to a card we have zero visibility on and we finally get the card, and we've now overpaid the balance with a credit in our favour. We spend that balance to level set to zero. Six months and zero purchases later, we receive a notice that the credit line of $2500 has been reduced to $250 for lack of use. We cancelled the card within ONE year. They had the nerve to reduce the card to $100 in case we wanted to use it to finance the Amazon Prime charge? We had to call back again to firmly cancel. What was the point of all that?!

We now have a JP Morgan Chase card with Amazon, btw. Offers all kinds of cool flexible payment options and perks. Couldn't be happier.

Fast forward and I finance an initial purchase with Google Store at 0% with Synchrony. It goes well enough so I make some purchases annually at Christmas and then last year I skipped and didn't make any - To be clear, I didn't want a whole Google Store card; I only wanted to finance my purchases at 0% because, obviously - why not? Make every payment without fail, all purchase agreements 100% satisfied without any issue whatsoever. Now they've reduced my credit line due to non-use and it's triggered a bunch of alerts from my credit monitoring that my score has decreased due to this credit line reduction. I know that these things fluctuate all the time but this seems completely unnecessary. I'm getting a wrist slap for not using your card? Because I need to buy Google products every day, right? No other card we have has ever penalized us for non-use. Not even Amex!

Who are these people and what profile of cardholder are they looking for? Not the paying kind! Not the good to excellent credit rating kind! So upset by this that I'm paying off the last of my 0% finance purchase in full and early, just to close this card. What does that tell you?

Hey Google! Switch companies! Offer 0% purchases with PayPal or Affirm or co-brand a card with a real bank and allow people to charge their Google Ads and/or offer financing options across all of your business units.

This is not helping your brand to associate with Synchrony Bank. You're in the dark ages with these guys.
