It is worth paying a $5.00 monthly fee to NetSpend because I get unlimited transactions and I get paid direct deposit money sooner than anyone I work with. NetSpend also gives me free text alerts describing each transaction made so I never have to wonder what my balance is. NetSpend is a trustworthy prepaid card. They will even cover me if I overdraw up to 10 bucks since I have direct deposit. Just read their policies; very simple to understand, choose your plan and you won't be disappointed.
NetSpend is the worst bank I have ever dealt with. Their customer service reps are a complete joke. DO NOT USE NETSPEND. If anyone has any negative social media links, please share with me so I can spread the word.
Do not but these. I purchased mine at a Walmart store and had $140.00 put on. Netspend ran me in circles for 6 hours and would eventually put me on hold and never answer, refused to let me speak with a higher up and Most Definitely would not consider a refund. I went back to Walmart and they said it's not they're problem, but yet Walmart sells the cards, loads the cards but MOST Definitely will not honor what they are selling. This is a scam on so many levels and I'm complexed by how this company can keep selling this Scam product in American stores. Walmart should be ashamed for letting they're long time customers get ripped off and not even say sorry or remove the cards after I told and showed all the evidence.
Tip for consumers:
Walmart should not sell these cards and let they're customers get ripped off

I bought two different PayPal netspend cards for my step sons, so they could buy stuff for Christmas online. Both were $100 and after several attempts to activate and a ridiculous amount of back and forth I gave up, well now it's been a few months and I started to try again to activate as I don't like being stolen from and now they basically just hang up on
Me and say those cards are expired. I seriously wonder what percent of money put on these cards just get lost to fees or just abandoned out of frustration. These people really should be prosecuted for fraud, they are preying on the poorest most desperate people in our society… I have a PayPal account and love it. I can't believe PayPal would allow their name to be associated with Netspend! Disgusting!

My elderly parents gifted me 2 netspend debit cards (by accident thinking they were normal gift cards) for my birthday. I was never able to activate the cards after having to create an account. My call got dropped 3 times calling into their customer support number. Time went by and after a year, I found them in a drawer, called them back to see if they could be activated. What I found out is that they charge over $5 a MONTH for inactivity, so by the time I called in, all the funds on the cards were gone. This is an outrageous business and business practice. I can't recommend this company to anyone.
We are sorry to hear that.

I used Netspend for 15 years and one day they said they are closing my account and I'm not able to open another account with them. No reason at all. No weird charges. No fraud. Just closed it. I'm sticking with my little home town bank from now on. I may not get my money 2 days early but at least I won't be treated like a number. Also Netspend has the worst customer service!
Tip for consumers:
Take your money elsewhere!

This is the worst possible card you can buy. Got it for Christmas and never activated it and the box says that a inactive fee will be apply once card is "Activated". However the company starts taking inactive fees from the card once the card is purchased from a retailer. So instead of having the amount gifted to you and without actual activation like the box and papers inside say they take your money without such activation. Long story short I would highly recommend you get a different card seeing as this one is a scam.
The fees for using the card and for maintaining the Card Account, including maintenance fees, are fully disclosed in the Cardholder Agreement that was included in the card packaging. The fee is automatically charged after 90 consecutive days of no activity.
We are happy to review the activity for your Netspend prepaid debit card to see what we can do. Please email us at social@netspend.com.

Netspend is not the prepaid anyone should want whi cares about their money. Research prepaid card business before just accepting thier guidelines. Netspend has gotten very rich off ripping off cardholders by deducting senseless fees from your account and other complaints. A class action lawsuit soon will be issued against them for fraudulent activities. So before you use any prepaid please do your research.

You are required to submit confidential documents. Review team is supposed to get back with you by 6 business hours but does not. None of the CSR's I have talked with speak fluent English. Will not transfer you to someone who does. I would never, ever, under any circumstances, recommend NetSpend. Horrible. This was supposed to be a birthday present for my son, and we have now spent several days past his birthday trying to get this card activated. Do not waste your time or money.

I got one of these when NetSpend was partnered with MLB. Big big mistake! Twice in less than two years I would get completely locked out of the app with no explanation, only to found that some scammer had called in an accessed my account. Somehow these people allowed that person to put in a different address and phone number! Seriously, who maintains the fraud department? Not once, but twice! The account balance dwindles like a leaky pipe. Complete waste of money.
We are sorry to hear that. To speak with us about your concerns, please email social@netspend.com.

If I were to go negative I should've gotten a notice... NOPE! No email! Nothing! My available balance was $60 just checked last night and didn't buy anything afterwards but I checked it again today and somehow have -$250! I cannot get a hold of anyone about this... i'm supposed to get a direct deposit tomorrow so I guess I have to just sit tight and wait patiently for 3 days to hear back from them! I'm so confused! I hope they don't take all of my money this is so messed up! Netspend should be available 24/7! I'm losing my mind right now!
Unusually high call volumes are leading to extended waits. We apologize for the inconvenience. You can also email us at social@netspend.com for additional assistance.
Have had to reissue prepaid NetSpend debit card four times now due to questionable NetSpend practices. They are likely scamming. "Your account has suspicious activity." "We'll issue you a replacement card just pay the fee." None of customer service speak English well, nor do they have good answers. Disputing a transaction involves a Facsimile Machine. (do you have a fax at home?) There's a fee for EVERY transaction you make. And you cannot debate them when they decide to revoke your legit transaction and/or deny a fraudulent one...

I was given two Netspend cards as a holiday gift. A few months later, when I went to use them, I loaded the Netspend app and had to enter all of my personal information, including SS# before I can activate the cards. Then I see that they have been deducting $5.95 a month from the total. They are deceptively taking away gift money until there's none left. I'm sure people that have the app to use a gift card have no idea they're accruing monthly charges, which continue to mount up. You can't even close the account on their app; you have to call them and give the phone reps all of your personal information again. Ridiculous and unethical! I would never recommend this company.
Hi, we're sorry to hear about your experience. Please send an email to social@netspend.com if you still need assistance.
I have used this company in the past to make certain purchases online that I did not want to use my bank card for. I loaded $500 and am unable to access my card. Each time I called it was more dismissive and contradictory than the last. I was given the run around and spent several hours trying to contact someone to resolve the issue. My hardworking money was stolen by people who have no conscience or ability to earn money the honest way. Also, to add insult to injury, why is Jose. B the only person responding to complaints? The unprofessional is unreal. They HAVE TO BE STOPPED!
We're sorry to hear that you haven't been able to use your funds. We are happy to look into this for you.

You bozos had me on an indefinite hold playing awful music for god knows how long all gor nothing. I would like to activate my card now if that's ok with you guys?

So, I never complain about card companies unless they deserve it. I bought a Netspend Debit Card with the desire of putting some money into it and have it as a secondary option for rent, bills etc. After I loaded it with $20.00, which I did to test how it works, I decided to make a $10 purchase. To my dismay, when I checked my account, it now read as $8.50 available. I found that extremely hard to believe, so to double check and make sure at what I was seeing, I bought something for. 99¢, and just as I feared, they also charged me $1.50 for that simple purchase. This is the worst card I have ever owned, a pure scam designed to rob you of your hard earned money. Heed my warning, DO NOT BUY!
It's a joke and a scam, it's just impossible to active the so called "debit card"... I'm surprised how a legal scam is going on in the grocery stores... they place their joke cards besides the gift cards to get customers confused... after dealing with fake customer service and the groceries store... surprise... you get to know there's no refund and you just lost your money

Today I have been trying to get through to customer service. I've called 4 times and was on hold in excess of 1 hour each time through the course of the day. No one ever picks up. I have direct deposit and I will be changing to another company. Netspend is demonstrating that customers are not valued.
We apologize for the inconvenience. If you still need assistance with your issue, please send us an email to social@netspend.com. We will be glad to assist you.
Got charged twice on multiple occasions, after proving this to their standards I still have not been reimbursed. Want you to contact customer service where the English language is not understood very well. Very hard to communicate with them. I will NEVER use them again and will tell anyone that will listen to avoid at all cost.
Tip for consumers:
dont do it

This is a fraudulent big scam company that must be shut down by the authorities. Purchased a Netspend Master card from Walmart, they cashed the money and never answered the phone to activate the card. We spent over 10 hours over 3 days trying to talk to them, they answered one time then they hunged up.
I am writing this on behalf of a none speaking English friend of mine who came to the US for a visit.
We're sorry to hear that our cardholder is having an issue with activating their card.
Like other financial companies that offer debit cards, we are required by our bank, as well as MasterCard and Visa associations, to be compliant with AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) laws. Both laws require that all financial institutions verify the identity of each account holder.
This means that we will ask for the name, US residential address, date of birth, and government ID number during the activation process. We may also ask to see a driver’s license or other identifying information.
We are happy to go over the options for accessing the funds on the card. Please email social@netspend.com.
Thank you,
Netspend
You provide ID when you open your account in person. Then, every time you log in online, they ask you to fill a question-by-question quiz to "verify your identity". Slip and double click "continue" or forget your parents' phone number from when you were a month old, and they'll lock your account. Their "fraud department" (which perpetrates fraud) claims you never provided the ID that you can't open an account at all without. They demand you email it, refuse to let you speak to a supervisor, and give you the run around. You'll probably never get your money back at this point. They're thieves, plain and simple.
Tip for consumers:
Don't trust this company with your money.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Walk into 7/11 on my 18th birthday to put money on one of your prepaid cards to buy some things online. Tried 3 times to activate the card through website and every time it told me something was wrong. I tried calling them 2 times the day of and was put on hold for 30 minutes, I gave up and now 2 days later I am writing this review while I've been on hold for 40 minutes so far. This company is horrible and does nothing to help you. They have over 500 1 star reviews on this website so no way they should even be allowed to be a company because I know so many people have had to put up with this same stuff and lost plenty of money. And I've read reviews and seen the company gives the same lame response to every person so I ask you to not do that to me and give your customers the help they deserve because this is ridiculous
