I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad but as for me as a new user it is completely awesome a few flaws easy fixes but it is a site that gets your goods out there an legitimate buyers that responded an showed up not like letgo where in my experience they play games I am very impressed with the site and will tell everyone i no how my experience has been with the site
After many months of purchases and sales, and only perfect five star reviews, Offer-Up sent a notice that my account was being immediately and permanently deactivated for "breaking guidelines or community standards." No further explanation and no reply to my further inquiries and appeals except that the site reserves the right to permanently terminate accounts without warning if someone "breaks guidelines or community standards." Absolutely no idea what I did and they will not tell me. Lost a lot of time and effort and transactions in progress. Heed everyone's warnings: DO NOT USE THIS SITE.

I have two complaints. The app is supposed to let you know when you have a response about an item by showing a number by the Icon, such as a 1 for one message or 2 for two messages, etc. The problem is that the number remains there even after you've looked at and responded to the message so its impossible to tell if you have new ones or if the old number is still there.
The second problem is that its a fertile ground for scammers. People list items for a ridiculously LOW price and ask that you respond to their email rather than through the app because "they're listing for a relative (or friend)" or because they can't get messages through the app. They do not have anything to sell, they just want your email address. It is usually a car (a 2015 Lexus for $1,200, etc.) and there will only be one photo. I often go on and report them and can easily find 45-50 scam ads for cars. Offerup seems to do nothing to stop this.
Don't use the App. It protects thieves and scammers by not allowing their negative reviews or negative comments be seen by other users.
So what's the point in using OfferUp if they don't share the negative reviews or comments to help buyers know when you have a scammer or thief using the App?
I wrote a negative review of this thief who goes by Lionel. He is a scammer. You can see there are NO negative comments on his profile which I left.
I think you're better off mowing your lawn at your house at least something got accomplished. Everyone on offer up once items for pennies on the dollar and most of them never even show up after setting an appointment! I'm sick of offer up giving me notifications on items I don't want to buy!
Pathetic management staff who doesn't know their own A$$ from a hot rock. Their policy on selling is vague. Left to their own interpretation. After I schooled them with facts, and even provided supporting data... they simply stopped responding. Plenty of other selling sights out there. Don't waste your time with these losers.
Offerup has NO customer service response. No phone line. Customer support never responds.
Every upgrade to their app is slower, worse, and functions more poorly.
If ANYONE makes a good classifieds website, i will go there, because i"M done with offerup. They have screwed me for the last time.
I post my items and daily fake buyers contact me asking questions like they are interested no stars just started their page. Be aware not to provide your address to these crazy people with nothing to do but waste peoples time. This app is no longer beneficial at all.
Now with shipping listings you hardly see anything in your area. I used this site to buy things close by and save on shipping. Way too many people make offers then poof they are gone, without any more replies
Ultimately this review can only reflect the dozens of interactions of sellers being that offerup acts as a buyer seller portal.
Unfortunately offerup includes some extremely unreliable people. They change prices, sell items out from under you, run actual scams and offerup does little to moderate. Buying something on offerup is a challenge. You're better off going through an actual store because at least there are protections there. Offerup lets your local crack dealer sell off it. Goodness.
They should allow for general information to be viewed in your profile. Like a summary as other websites have one. You could never contact anyone to actually help you if you are having problems with posting. It's not worth paying to promote things. A lot of people repeat posts and they don't get taken down. I posted an ad for something and it was taken down saying it didn't meet guidelines! They're full of it.
The people are super bad. They always want stuff for free just to turn around and resell it. That's why I dislike resellers! I'm already asking for a fair price and they expect me to meet them somewhere random. They're crazy. And then the stupid people never read your whole description and ask questions already on the darn description. Yet, all you can do is block them. There's no violations or anything for stupid people wasting one's time.
Too many loser sellers who don't give a $#*! about wasting other people's time. They just stop communicating after messaging back and forth. I am absolutely done wasting any more time on this POS app. You've been warned.

There is no governance or user support. So, be warned. You've got no recourse. It's a wild-wild west free-for-all where anyone can do anything with no repercussions.

Ever since the change... dead! I'm sure others are experiencing the same thing. Letgo was perfect... what's with all this jazzy stuff... local... shipping... you should have just left it alone.
Moving my items over to Craig's list, market place...
SAD on your behalf!
Tip for consumers:
LOL... AS A SELLER?.. RUN

Doesnt matter... site is terrible for sellers... you should have just left everything lone.. LETGO
HELLO CRAIGSLIST, MARKET PLACE
There is none. No telephone contact allowed. Options are "app" for phone. Offered option to use e-mail, that goes no where. I gave up after wasting 45 frustrating minutes. Doesn't get any worse than this doesn't scratch the surface. This sucks.
I had some issues with the messaging before but it's all working great now. I've sold a few items on there and everything went smooth. I only sell to or buy from locals so i don't know how shipping stuff works out.

Email from them - BEFORE using the site to buy or sell anything - literally no activity... saying
"We noticed activity on your account that violates our Community Guidelines As a result, we've removed your account from OfferUp" I'm assuming my account was hacked
Because I haven't even logged in since I opened it.
So inquire. 6 msgs before I received a very thin reply:
"It appears a technical issue caused your account to enter a locked state. We've made some changes that have resolved the issue. Good luck buying and selling!" LoL (as in good luck, you're going to need it!) I get the feeling it's not a very secure site, lots of reviews with spam issues and being infested with scammers. I closed my account. Craigslist is also scammer's ghetto, but we're used to it. I think the offerup ppl are just too green, and don't give a rat's $#*! about their legit users. Just saying
Tip for consumers:
Shady company - they don't know what the heck they're doing and your info won't be secure.

I've sold over 500 items and bought quite a few. After trying to post something and it being "prohibited" I emailed them in regards to why and they blocked my verified account. Instead of giving me an educated response so I could correct my post they simply blocked me for voicing my opinion. Childish customer service, reason they don't put their names in the email like any reputable company would us they lash out when asked questions. Good luck OfferUp. Marketplace is a lot less ghetto anyways.
Just went onto the site. Many stale items gathering cobwebs. Also I don't need OfferUp to look at local stores or Wal-Mart. I have the distinct feeling that those who are selling their items are looking for a fairly reasonable price - certainly not looking to 'get rid of anything' - it's a hobby. My time can be better spent elsewhere.
I have been using OfferUp since it became a thing years ago. I always enjoyed it. Selling/buying was typically easy and I'd find enjoyment just browsing to see if anything I liked would come up. Now, can't even filter what I'm exactly looking for, every other post is a car or furniture. I'm looking for a mirror goddamn. It's become annoying, inconvenient, and it went from being an easy second hand selling platform to advertised stores near me with products I don't even care to look for. Gladly to say, I've deleted the app and see you never again! Facebook wins again
Offer up is horrible. More fake listings then anything. Fake listings are easily spotted, so obviously the creators are simply too lazy to remove them as necessary. I sold hundreds of items on Letgo, and nothing since they merged with OfferUp. I'd give zero stars if I could. They absolutely SUCK!
OfferUp is mediocre at best. They really need to get their act together. Here is why:
1. Thousands of ads are posted by scammers and OfferUp does NOTHING about it even when you report them. Example: (likely stolen) https://offerup.com/item/detail/*******/
2. The App has 4 YEAR old ads which the sellers haven't updated nor are they responding but OfferUp keeps them active regardless.
Example: https://offerup.com/item/detail/*******/
3. Very few sellers actually respond to inquiries - probably because the items are sold and OfferUp has no mechanism to purge old ads.
4. Navigation on the App & website is counter intuitive. You can't even delete messages (seriously?). Also, to block someone, you have to report them first, why?
5. They make all searches nationwide. I don't want shipping, I would use eBay if I did. I deal with local sellers/buyers only. If you cracked down on all the scammers on your app, I might consider shipping deals but until then, HELL NO!
Tip for consumers:
Beware of scammers especially when shopping for cell phones.

Tried this site as an alternative to Craigslist. First thing I'm interested in I ask for a better picture. 24 hours later I get a reply that they put more pics up but since they looked at it better it's more three times the price now. Waste of my time.
They would remove posts that followed everything by their rules. They don't send you an email saying exactly why they removed your post. There is no way to contact them on a specific post. Stick with Craigslist and Letgo.
I have reported over 100 scammers offering Rolex and other high end watches for under $500. They all have account dates of July 2022 and tell you to respond off platform. The accounts are all different, but the embedded contact info is always IG hypetime00. Apparently, they must get value from allowing these scammers to exist as they never do anything to stop them. Just look at the hundreds of newer Honda cars advertised for $800... At least Craigslist hammers scammers almost instantly.
I contacted both seller and Offerup immediately with pictures regarding an open package as well as spilling contents... further the seller never even sent what he promised... Offerup ignored all requests until AFTER the 2 day "period" at which point they told me "it was too late" I can't begin to describe how clearly unethical and fraudulent this company is. They purchased Letgo and since then, there are numerous reports of this company failing to mitigate anything online. They will not honor the "protection" and they will lie to your face...
Tip for consumers:
Do not Use the website or application whatsoever, I have heard many of the same reports and you are much better off using a safe a secure service which backs up the promise you make

I used the online shipping through the app with "purchase protection" seller sent the wrong stuff and even what he sent was spilling out of an open package, he has a wife beater in his picture and sunglasses.... also everything smelled like cigarettes
My first few local purchases were great - no complaints or problems! The last purchase I made wasnt worth anything. Upon arriving at the sellers house, my picks were already boxed up & I got the bums rush. I was literally rushed out, a guy put the box in my car - without my being able to look at anything! Was given impression he was watching football & wanted to get back to his game. Once Home, I discovered the books were from 35 to 50 years old - the picture & frame had no glass! My own fault for not saying wait a minute so I can check things. Valuable lesson learned - check things out before you hand someone your money!
