OfferUp has a rating of 1.4 stars from 863 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about OfferUp most frequently mention customer service, phone number, and credit card problems. OfferUp ranks 754th among Marketplace sites.
I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad but as for me as a new user it is completely awesome a few flaws easy fixes but it is a site that gets your goods out there an legitimate buyers that responded an showed up not like letgo where in my experience they play games I am very impressed with the site and will tell everyone i no how my experience has been with the site
After many months of purchases and sales, and only perfect five star reviews, Offer-Up sent a notice that my account was being immediately and permanently deactivated for "breaking guidelines or community standards." No further explanation and no reply to my further inquiries and appeals except that the site reserves the right to permanently terminate accounts without warning if someone "breaks guidelines or community standards." Absolutely no idea what I did and they will not tell me. Lost a lot of time and effort and transactions in progress. Heed everyone's warnings: DO NOT USE THIS SITE.
I suspect there are far too many sellers for the audience this app reaches. They need to promote more. I would never recommend it to anyone. Just a waste of time.
I paid the "promote fee" and the app simply removed my offer. There's no way to contact support to complain (link is broken). Real rip off, stay away from these guys!
This joke of an app deserves ZERO stars! I was scammed out of $650! No way I'm getting my money back. Their customer service doesn't care about you and protects the scammers instead of the consumers. Please don't use this app ever! The offer that I was scammed with has created over 40 scam accounts on this app with the same or similar description, different variations of the same name or new names and different locations dating back to April 2021. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. If you want to be scammed and never get your money back then this is the perfect app for you. I reported all the fake scam accounts and posts but this company doesn't care enough to stop them. If you don't believe me look it up on Google. There's tons of review websites with complaints about this app. OfferUp has been getting this types of complaints since 2018 and haven't done squat to fix it. A person even tried to sue them which you can see as well. The CEO went as far as telling people to post about their experiences on YouTube when clearly all they want is the free advertisement. STAY AWAY! This app makes MILLIONS. And they will forever scam people even during a PANDEMIC! Take your hard, earned money elsewhere. You've been warned. Highly disappointed.
P.S. If you liked LetGo who has merged with OfferUp then you (buyer or seller) will be scammed as well.
*Note: I added a few of the accounts since there's many as proof. I'm sure they're creating many, many more to scam people from all over the country. They've been doing this for almost 6 MONTHS!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t use this app.

Honestly, you are totally wasting your time using this app/service. That's why there are so many negative reviews...
NOBODY PAYS,
NOBODY TURNS UP
Save yourself the energy and effort, use EBAY or give your stuff to charity
I won't be using this app anymore to look for work as almost every job (everyone I wanted), had a bogus link that sends me to a site that wants to spam the **** out of me but no job application opportunities or options. Just spam and crap and nothingness + frustration. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE- negative stars
Seems all the second hand online buy/sell apps are nothing more than scams these days... again the internet making the world worse off.
Should really add a zero star rating.
Worst app ever! Had for over 6 months gave it a shot and all I got was bs. Fake buyers. Fake helpers. Terrible experience. Never again. Seriously the worst!
I am so sick and tired of offer up and their limited to horrible bidders. Obviously they are making money but how? 99% of their bidders are con artist, scammers and tire kickers. Want me to prove it? Place five items worth something a a low ball price and see what happens. I have honestly wasted so much time with this absolutely $#*!ty app. Maybe, maybe 1 out of 20 things sell. Dont waste your time with this horribly run app. I deleted from my phone so they cant steal my MBs anymore. They dont care about the customer in any manner. Offerup is a scam app. At least with Ebay, the only honest running selling app, they offer protection and force both buyers and sellers to abide by rules. Free sites? Both really free are they. They take your MBs from you. Look at the app settings under storage and memory used. Do you think that they dont make money? They do, from the seller. Mbs or KBs are what you spend money on each month to your phone company. Offerup steals this money from you and you dont know it. They offer no protection from any scam artist and on top of that, they are the scammers. Taking your hard earned money without care. Nope, it's not free to sell on offerup. Who pays them? You.
I noticed the complaints about buyers here, but what about the bad sellers? I had an experience with a seller that did not sell product (bicycle) as advertised. It had busted tubes and the alignment was bad.
He was then very rude when I contacted him and accused me of tampering with the bicycle. I let it go since it was not a lot of money, but I reported him since he was pretty rude about it. Also he changed the price on the site after agreeing to meet me at our agreed price. I contacted him about it and he says "don't worry just bring the amount we agreed on"
I also read that reporting people really doesn't accomplish anything. I don't think offerup provides any type of guarantee from you getting ripped off or receiving bad service. Also be careful in terms of safety. Always meet sellers in a well lit public place where there are people. You are rolling the dice. Always test product before paying too. This site is only good for cheap stuff under 50 bucks that way it's no big deal if you get ripped off
I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT LET GO AND THIS APP "OFFER"UP EITHER APP I HAVE HAD GOOD AND BAD EXPERIENCES. BUT AFTER LAST NIGHT I WILL NO LONGER BE USING OFFER UP. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWS HERE, IT'S HARD TO TRUST ANYONE WHO SELLS SOMETHING BECAUSE YOU MAY END UP DEAD OR INJURED. BUT I GET THE PEOPLE QUICK TO SELL SOMETHING AND MEET UP ANYTIME BECAUSE IT SEEMS TOO ANXIOUS FOR ME AND IT'S NOT SAFE TO DO THAT. SO I HOPE THIS APP GETS SHUT DOWN SOON BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
Offer Up is great because it has a system in place were users are verified, which gives buyers/seller a bit of feeling secure with whom you are dealing with on the site. That is if you carefully scan the site for True members and pass by those many many many seemingly shady postings. My main complaint with offer up is that to many members waste your time with questions, low ball price, make plans to meet then cancel at the last minute. Even is you mention on your post that you mark as "sold" once sold people still ask "is it still available?" or if you mention the price is "firm" they still offer a lower price or insult you with a ridiculous offer. In my opinion Offer Up should find a way for users to be more respectful of sellers time and be more serious about what they are interested in buying,,, Before I sell an item I must get 20-30 text daily. Then when I finally get someone who is serious and we make meet up arrangements I am always thinking they will be a "No Show", which has happened. Offer Up is not worth the aggravation and stress from people wasting your time with low balling, asking questions already outlined in the posting and last minute cancellations. There should be a way to monitor these people and close their account if there is an excessive pattern of wasting someone's time. I will be cancelling my membership...
Anybody else having problems getting their money for items sold and shipped? I haven't received payment for an item sold over 2 weeks ago. Very frustrating and there is no way to call them.
I spend thousands of dollars on this app. When I have a problem their customer service is piss poor. You get run-of-the-mill boxed answers. Literally THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. STAY AWAY.
I purchased a washing machine from a gentleman that stated the washing machine had no issues. I was not able to call him only message him because the washing was not working. I texted him my issues with the washing machine. I got it checked out the washing machine was already damaged and the seller knew it according to the service guy. I am out $250 for the washing machine and 118 for the service charge. Offer up was not helpful with me trying to contact someone regarding my complaint. I WILL NEVER USE OFFER UP AGAIN!
I have used the App for over a year. I haven't had any issues with OfferUp until this week where I've encountered an "almost robbed" situation. If I have not had a gun with me, the buyer would of took the iPhone 7 Plus I was selling and possibly my life along with it. I reported the user and messaged OfferUp about the incident, then OfferUp banned my account without any notice or even giving me a reason why they did so. They ignored my messages towards technical support thinking it was an issue with my iPhone since I was posting many items and none were being viewed publicly. No one was receiving my messages nor was I able to receive them. I have over twenty five-star reviews within the past year and not even one four-star! I am really disappointed with OfferUp and their way of dealing with their users. Instead of them worrying about the thieves robbing others or the Paypal scams, they block the the best rated users just to "not deal with" any situation. I find it very sad that I even wasted my time writing this review or reporting thieves on that worthless app!
Have been buying and selling online and via local venues for years [with significant success BTW]! Have given the OfferUp app a year+ worth of trial and testing [to be fair] and have found that, as a buying/selling community, it leans really heavily to the low-ball buyers and junk sellers. Most offers come in the form of one-word questions like "available?" or "lowest?" and even "Trade?"
Additionally, there seems to be a lack of interest by the buyers in actually READING the seller ad or sellers POSTING anything other a picture and price with minimal description of the items. More often than not a buyer will not notice the distance between themselves and the seller and then expect the seller to come to the buyer on a seriously low-ball offer. When an offer is "accepted" then the buyer flakes because they finally figure out distance. The app actually TELLS you location but people do not pay attention until late in the game. It's ridiculous.
It's a "short-cut" transaction community. Don't expect too much of this app or the people that use it.
Tip for consumers:
If you get an offer, ALWAYS check the location of the buyer. If it's a ridiculous distance then don't get your hopes up that a transaction will get finalized.
If the buyer cannot speak in more than one word responses or actual full sentences it's likely you are dealing with a Millennial that cannot get their head around the concept of an actual conversation with another human.
I have sold and purchased from letgo for a long while. I loved this app. Unfortunately OfferUp is not even close I am now bringing my things to goodwill. Please bring letgo back
There are so many people who troll OfferUp that the vast majority of the initial offers or responses are fake or not real. Just looking to see what they can get away with
Two scammers (or maybe it's the same person) reached out to me just days after I posted an item. Both of them sounded eager to make the purchase and wanted to send checks and schedule a mover to pick up. They promised that the movers would pick up after the check clears. They even offered straight up to pay for shipping/add more money to help secure the item. I knew this was too good to be true so I started doing some research on how these people could scam you using checks that could clear. Apparently, these people want you to believe that their check is real, so after you deposit it into your account thinking you've gotten the money, the money could get taken away if the bank later realizes there's something wrong with the check. However, you would have already shipped the item and paid for the movers.
So don't waste your time with people who will only pay via checks unless you can find a local branch and take cash out using the check. Needless to say, after i told these two scammers that I will only take a check from a bank with a local branch and have to get it cashed before we schedule the movers, they went crickets.
I've sold quite a bit on OfferUp and was very happy with everything until now.
A customer makes an offer, I accepted the offer, printed the label, and shipped it off like so many times before.
3 days later I get a message from OfferUp saying that shipping has been extended and that if I do not ship the item, the sale will be canceled. Odd, because I can easily click on the previous message sent by OfferUp and view the tracking information. Tracking states that it is in transit.
So I go looking for a customer service phone number. There is no number or email anywhere on the site. Any "contact us" button loops you back to a page full of unhelpful articles. I finally find a phone number on a website called "pissedconsumer". Great.
I call and call and call. No answer.
So I decide to respond to an email they went previously about a different item. I got several auto responses back... so I guess we'll see.
As it stands now, the customer will get his August smart lock and I will not be paid for it. If this changes I will edit this review, but I'm not hopeful after reading the other reviews.
If this does not get resolved, I will stop selling on OfferUp all together and stick with eBay.
My friend told me about offerup and I signed up to give a try. Messaged a seller and made a deal on a Fujifilm lens. Then my first offer was cancelled immediately but said the seller cancelled it. I reached out to the seller again and he had no idea what happened since that was his first sale as well. Then, I extended a second offer. Offerup popped up a message which says their support team needs to review the offer and will respond in 36 hours. Ok, I got it I am a new user. They want to be careful. So be it. The ridiculous thing is about a day later all of sudden I got an email from offerup accusing me 'violate' their policies. So, my account was disabled. I reached out to support team for explanation what exactly I violated. The first email from them were saying 'This transaction was canceled because we could not be confident that both parties would be happy with the outcome. We recommend buying and selling with other users on OfferUp in the future'? Ah, you are a platform. You are not 'confident' that me and the seller happy about a sale of mere $270?
Then I asked them to explain what exactly I violated. They responded vaguely with their violation link which I had no clue what I did wrong. They finally remind me I am prohibited to open another account. Another?! With you jokers? Are you kidding me? I have had enough with them in two days. Taking my business elsewhere. Good luck to you!
Horrible app. Not user friendly. They discontinued letgo but did mot bring over your listings. Truly a horrible app to use. I do like the sound of the notifications "chi Ching" though.

TO OFFER-UP THIS IS "MIKE EASTON." HELLO REMEMBER ME?
This app really makes no sense. I jumped through all the hoops of verifying and I even had to reset and talk to customer service, changed my password waited over 24 hours finally was able to make an offer go through and within that same hour I was banned for life. Now mind you this is literally my very first time ever being on the app I have a brand new account and this is my very first Buy. I don't sell on the app and I have not posted anything on the app. After I finally got my offer by to go through within less than 30 minutes my email said that I was completely banned from OfferUp. They removed my account and canceled any order that I made. You can clearly see that this has no real bearing on real life of why they would ban me. They claim to have good fraudulent protection but I read a bunch of scammers on there stay on there they don't ban the sellers but they ban new buyer accounts for no reason. It's super frustrating but who knows they're 1.2 star review is so low on the internet that maybe it was a blessing in disguise that I was removed from this app. I've red horror stories but I really wanted to get a collecting card set that it was on there... if I were you I would stay far far away from this app.
I've never seen such a poor way the correspondence between the buyer and the seller is handled with OfferUp, all the calls went to junk mail, didn't notice until the next day, very annoying, missed the buyer completely, I wouldn't write this if I wasn't pissed off, because it happened a few times, it seems they don't care.
OfferUp is revolutionizing how we sell by making it a snap! Instantly connect with buyers and sellers near you.
