I've been a member here since 2004. Yes, I contribute but only because I want to, not because I have to. It's one of the most informative websites I've found and deals with every kind of rv issue and then some. Of course, there are rules. If you don't like the rules, don't hang around. Leave like some of the rest have done. I have enjoyed meeting new friends. We have a great bunch of people. Many of us no longer have Outback rvs but hang around as SOBs (some other brand) just for the comaraderie. Check it out for yourself.

This website is stiill free to any and everyone. There are rules in place that don't allow discussions of politics and religion and this is what have upset some to degrade the site. Lucky for those of us that enjoy the site the rules are enforced and these people have left or been pushed out. If you have not checked it out look for yourself and you will see the truth.

I belonged to this forum for many years. Mostly good people and a place to get and give information and help about camping.
Recently the owner of the website decided he was not making enough money. So he removed some of the features of the forum, and then offered them back to the membership in the form of a premium membership. Then when that created a fair amount of backlash, he blamed malcontents, and threatened to shut down the forum.

So he got his way. Many unsuspecting members have bought the premium. Now the forum is the 'haves' vs the 'havenots'.

Too much drama for a forum designed for people helping people. There are tons of other forums out there for the interested camper. This one should be avoided.

This is one of the best sites on the web! No one is forcing anyone to purchase anything. Those of us that choose to help the site out are not doing it for anything extra. We are doing it to make sure that Outbackers lives on and continues to be a great place to visit!

Well the mis information still flows. There are no ads on Outbackers never has and there are no plans for them. There are no commercial sponsors and no plans for those either. You would think if people want to slam something they could at least have a little truth in the claims. Visit the site and read EVERYTHING for free. You want to post a question, join for free, no banners, no pop ups, NO ADS and its free. You want to support the web site there are options for that to, pay a little or pay what you think it is worth to you or just pay by posting helpful and insightful comments to the questions and ideas posted.

Oh well the it is still funny to read what the malcontents are writing just don't put much weight into what they are writing.

I have been a member of Outbackers.com for about 2 years. It's a great site to get answers to your questions. Most people are friendly and the information is good. It does get silly at times and the moderators are heavy participates and tend to step all over you.

Count me as one that was publicly flamed by the owner himself for stating my non-religious and non-political opinion on something concerning the forum. The owner is supper dramatic and believes people are out to get him. He is also a heavy participant and will step on you, then a bunch of members will praise his grace and wise hand.

Don't cross the one called "PXDoug."

They call themselves a family, but families disagree sometimes. If you do disagree, you'll be a black sheep in no time.
Nobody tried to shut down the site except the owner himself. Yes, go see for yourself! Drama queen vally PTA. I recomend the site, just don't get "to" involved, if you do, wear protection.

Contrary to some of the reviews, I think Outbackers.com is one of the best camping forums on the internet. The website is still FREE, just those who want to support the site can and have been. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about, but for the last year I have been on this forum, I have not seen flaming, been flamed or any of the other complaints. The moderaters keep the site "FAMILY FRIENDLY" unlike some other sites. Check it out for yourself and see.

The few folks who want the world (email account, blog space, photo storage, etc) for nothing are trying to discredit the administrator and the moderators. To their credit, the moderators and administrator run a very friendly, family oriented website that helps folks with questions on their RVs, as well as allowing members (free membership) to offer tips, share experiences, and a whole host of other interesting topics. Vulgarity, flaming, discussions on politics and religion, and name calling are not allowed, which has some folks mad. Well, they need to go to other sites that allow that stuff and leave the rest of us alone. The administrator had been running the site for a long time by financing it out of his own pocket. And when he announced that he could no longer afford to do that (the site grew by leaps and bounds - requiring more and more server space, which costs more $$$), he offered premium memberships that afforded the donators more space, etc. Then the flamers came out of the woodwork. Seems as though they want more free mail space, photo storage, etc - but do not want to pay for it. So their response was to try and shut down the site for the rest of us. Shame on them! If I don't like a movie, I get up and leave. If I don't like the food at a restaurant, I don't go there any more. Perhaps those morons can figure out that if they don't like a website, they don't have to type in the address and press "GO." Let them start and fund their own website so they can do as they please without offending the rest of us. But they will find out that nothing is for free! (Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out!)
