PCI says "Based on the photos you sent, the defects shown are a result of damage sustained in transit. Damage was not noted on the carrier's bill of lading which releases them and our production team of liability. Because of this, I [PCI] cannot provide free replacements or a refund." CAUTION #1 - If you buy their columns, DO NOT allow the freight carrier to depart until ALL cartons are opened and inspected. DO NOT allow them to leave without first documenting any damage on the Proof of Delivery (POD) and DO get the driver's signature on it and retain a copy. DO get photos BEFORE they come off the truck and photos of ANY damage to cartons and product. Our shipment weighed 560 pounds and the columns weigh in excess of 100 pounds each. Insist that the freight carrier assign two men to get the columns off the truck WITHOUT YOUR ASSISTANCE when they call to set a delivery appointment. CAUTION #2 – PCI Terms & Policies at https://www.pacificcolumns.com/terms-and-policies state "Orders Shipping Common Carrier require you to unload the items." DO read the following: "To Delivery... And Beyond!: The Boundaries of Carrier Liability for Unloading (A Clear Answer to Muddled Facts)" at https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=03897da1-330a-48a5-8983-76b53c01caf1 D. It reads in part:: Consignee Duty and Liability: A Clear Supreme Court Holding and Its Progeny Unlike many other situations, here, there is very clear case law on this point. The United States Supreme Court has squarely held that the duty to unload goods rests upon the consignee: The general rule is that it is the responsibility of the carrier... to `deliver' the goods by placing them in such a position as to make them accessible to the consignee. Normally unloading is not a part of the delivery and is performed by the consignee. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT - PCI may not have packaged correctly. In view of the apparent fragility of the columns, notwithstanding PCI Online claims to the contrary, the columns fractured. Regardless of how the damage was inflicted, and by whom, mere cardboard boxing of columns stacked upon one another and banded to a pallet less in length than the overhanging eight-foot columns does not afford adequate protection. Additionally, NO SPECIAL HANDLING REQUIREMENTS appear anywhere in any PCI website pages or available pdf literature. CONCLUSION: In view of the above, it is my VERY STRONG RECOMMENDATION that you DO NOT purchase products from PCI unless you can obtain a written and signed agreement from them that THEY ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIBILITY FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGE TO THE SHIPMENT UNTIL IT IS DEPOSITED ON YOUR PROPERTY BY THEIR CARRIER and THEY obtain "CARGO GOODS IN TRANSIT INSURANCE" for the shipment AT THEIR EXPENSE.
When our customers had special questions or challenges, Pacific Columns helped obtain and provide options for our customer with reasonable pricing and lead times.
We had a great experience with Pacific Columns. There products were excellent. There service was also excellent. I would highly recommend them to friends.
I sent a detailed letter to the President and to the General Manager of my very miserable experience. Since sending that letter the replacement shipment has arrived (shipped because of damage to several items in my original shipment) and three of those items were broken or damaged (about half). This has been one of my worst experiences with a company in the last 40 years. I sent an email to Maia in Customer Service yesterday about the damage to the new shipment, a copy of the bill of lading with damage noted and pictures of the new damage. Haven't heard a thing back yet. One of the biggest issues has been of promises made on delivery, both from your company and R&L Trucking which were not kept. The columns are obviously not packed well enough to take long road trips by truck. The manufacturer needs to find a way to protect them better or make the columns stronger. I also find it strange that you would send an email to me like this which implies that if I don't respond to it I have no rights to communicate my displeasure with the transaction. It appears that you are looking for a way of shutting off customer complaints and shutting down communication. I almost got the impression that if I didn't respond to this email and just communicated with Maia directly that you would ignore my emails.
I'm not a DIYer and had the 5' tapered Craftsman columns installed by a competent carpenter, which is why they look great!:) Nice product nonetheless, whether you do the work or outsource it.
Very helpful & acommodating. Posts r several shades lighter than caps but it looks fine. So glad I spent the extra money for this look & to be maintenance free.
You are an excellent source for all of our building needs! Our customer support representative, Garrett Bonetti, was extremely knowledgeable, supportive and responsive!
Product was as advertised. The caps and base were slightly oversized where they slide over the column. I filled in the gaps with caulk. Would purchase from Pacific Columns again
Quick service, order was written and approved, but wrong items shipped, therefore was not able to complete the project in one day. 2nd trip means lost time and money!
The columns are beautiful and all arrived timely and with no broken parts. I will admit, I was a bit amazed - they are not packed very well for shipping.
I finally talked to Sam Peace and all my previous concerns were resolved. He was great even though my order was small and I'm sure by Company standard inconsequential!
I am most pleased with the quality, service and the response to my request for expedited delivery. The new column base is already installed and looks great. Thank you.
SO FAR I HAVE NOT ORDERED ANY MATERIALS OTHER THAN A CATALOG.AND IT WASD PERFECT - VERY NICE AND WELL LAID OUT. WE HAVE QUOTED YOUR PRODUCTS ON A PROJECT, BUT CURRENTLY THE CUSTOMER IS NOT MOVING FORWARD WITH THE PROJECT - HOPEFULLY LATER THIS SUMMER!
They were very concerned about making sure my order was exactly what I needed. The finished product came out perfectly. I couldn't be happier with my experience.
I placed my order with very specific needs that had to be met- delivery within 2 weeks. It's a long story, but this was very important and I could not stress it enough when I placed the order. I was assured it would be shipped on time, with plenty of time for delivery to be on time, as delivery is out of their control. Understood, as the window of shipping time was reasonable. Once I paid for the order, I called a couple days later to verify it would be shipped on time. Their 5-8 day ship time was suddenly 6-8 weeks, I made numerous calls, and send numerous emails about the situation, it was eventually shipped after neary 4 weeks, and I was told "that IS fast... for us!" I very clearly stated my dissatisfaction with their salesman, and service, and assured them there would never be another order. It's clear they care more about sales than customers, I.e. Making a one time sale is more important than a happy customer who could and would order regularly. Despite my very clear and very reasonable requests, that ignored my needs and NONE of the promises they made at the time of saw were satisfied. Very poor business.
I ordered columns and was told 3-7days shipping. I did not see my order for a month. I have local suppliers that can do better and will keep with them next time.
Ryan Shiemaker was good to work with and your customer service was prompt and efficient.
However, nearly 30 days for delivery was not acceptable given my understanding at the time of order.
I would like to have had better communication as far as the delivery date so we can make better plans for production. However the products look very nice.
The columns are absolutely amazing. They are so much heavier and sturdier than what I expected. We did have to trim them significantly to make them fit, but they still look great.
Delivery was speedy. 4" Newel posts not well packed/protected. Fortunately it was only for 3 additional posts we needed but floor molding/cap were broken on all three posts. Everything else was fine.
Columns look beautiful and I am very happy with them.
Due to our time frame columns took longer than originally quoted. Customer service did try to work with us to expedite order.
I need to talk to President of your company. I need an RMA to return our order. Ryan Shoemaker did not give us RMA#. I am not happy with how your company run your business. I do not have to resort to reporting your company to FTC and Better Business BUreau.
I want to work this out. PLease have someone at top call me *******843

NOT HAPPY
I'm contacting you now. At least one of the three columns arrived cracked in an abused looking cardboard box.
Don't yet know if we can use it yet as we can discard 16" of it.
Good people to work with. Only problem that we had was several revised shipping dates. I believe this was a problem with the shipper not Pacific Columns.
The ordering and shipping experience was completely satisfactory.
If I had know how fragile the corners on the column panels were I probably would not have ordered.
They had what I needed. I wish they were able to deliver product using box trucks instead of semi-trucks. Makes it difficult for non-commercial customers to purchase.
