PCI says "Based on the photos you sent, the defects shown are a result of damage sustained in transit. Damage was not noted on the carrier's bill of lading which releases them and our production team of liability. Because of this, I [PCI] cannot provide free replacements or a refund." CAUTION #1 - If you buy their columns, DO NOT allow the freight carrier to depart until ALL cartons are opened and inspected. DO NOT allow them to leave without first documenting any damage on the Proof of Delivery (POD) and DO get the driver's signature on it and retain a copy. DO get photos BEFORE they come off the truck and photos of ANY damage to cartons and product. Our shipment weighed 560 pounds and the columns weigh in excess of 100 pounds each. Insist that the freight carrier assign two men to get the columns off the truck WITHOUT YOUR ASSISTANCE when they call to set a delivery appointment. CAUTION #2 – PCI Terms & Policies at https://www.pacificcolumns.com/terms-and-policies state "Orders Shipping Common Carrier require you to unload the items." DO read the following: "To Delivery... And Beyond!: The Boundaries of Carrier Liability for Unloading (A Clear Answer to Muddled Facts)" at https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=03897da1-330a-48a5-8983-76b53c01caf1 D. It reads in part:: Consignee Duty and Liability: A Clear Supreme Court Holding and Its Progeny Unlike many other situations, here, there is very clear case law on this point. The United States Supreme Court has squarely held that the duty to unload goods rests upon the consignee: The general rule is that it is the responsibility of the carrier... to `deliver' the goods by placing them in such a position as to make them accessible to the consignee. Normally unloading is not a part of the delivery and is performed by the consignee. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT - PCI may not have packaged correctly. In view of the apparent fragility of the columns, notwithstanding PCI Online claims to the contrary, the columns fractured. Regardless of how the damage was inflicted, and by whom, mere cardboard boxing of columns stacked upon one another and banded to a pallet less in length than the overhanging eight-foot columns does not afford adequate protection. Additionally, NO SPECIAL HANDLING REQUIREMENTS appear anywhere in any PCI website pages or available pdf literature. CONCLUSION: In view of the above, it is my VERY STRONG RECOMMENDATION that you DO NOT purchase products from PCI unless you can obtain a written and signed agreement from them that THEY ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIBILITY FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGE TO THE SHIPMENT UNTIL IT IS DEPOSITED ON YOUR PROPERTY BY THEIR CARRIER and THEY obtain "CARGO GOODS IN TRANSIT INSURANCE" for the shipment AT THEIR EXPENSE.
Love the quality of the products.
Bought three nice columns in the fall - not great customer experience for responses to questions and took a LONG time.
Had two orders this winter, went/going much better. Garrett was sales contact.
Outstanding and responsive advice from Anthony, who assisted me with selection of round column bases for front portico of my brick colonial. I chose the Doric bases, split in half. They look terrific.
Their salesperson, Ryan, was very helpful. He provided several estimates and answered numerous questions in helping me determine exactly what I needed for my project. The columns arrived on time and in perfect condition.
Everything went smoother than I thought it would. Ordering, delivery and customer service. Courteous and attentive salesmen. Mine was Ryan. The columns shipped right away and were here on time. Great experience!
Sales response was instant & the prices are less than our local vendor.
Customer service so far has not been a good experience. We are stuck with an over $2000.00 order b/c it won't work for our project and the return freight cost is more than the product cost. Pacific C/Svc said that "the logistics" team will have to look into it." But we, have no return calls or emails from logistics or cust svc. Repeat calls offer the same response.
They could arrange a pick up with one of their freight company accounts & reduce the return by that discounted that cost.
This is not our first order with Pacific Columns. As a NJ Builder we've used them before and could potentially use them again. At this point we don't feel like a valued customer.
I called your office via a search in Google, your live representative was absolutely kind, knowledgeable, helpful and well, basically 'sold me' to order my columns for my restaurant the next day. They came within one week and look great...
A great product for a great price. My only negative remark was the delay in shipping without being notified. I had to call them. The shutters however, were an exact match and color and arrived quickly. Very nice. I would definitely order from this company again because of their superior products and fair prices.
I am a building contractor that specializes in residential homes. Everyone was very helpful that I spoke with. Columns arrived without any scratches or dents. They look great and are the quality that we were looking for.
Ordering was great. Product arrived without a pallet. Drive said it broke when he tried to move it for another delivery. I noted this on his BOL. Packaging was beat up pretty bad, but I did not see any visible damage. Will not be installing the columns for a couple of months.
Terrible experience. Shame on your company for shipping broken products the first time and making a customer pay to replace them. Sloppy customer service experience too. I would strongly recommend anyone who looks for a reputable company that will take care of their customers to look somewhere else. Pacific will never get my business again.
The column bases I ordered were suppose to be solid bases that would support a wooden column and all I received was regular hollow plinths and rings for $3500.00 But I have to figure out a way to use them because it took 4 weeks to get them the job is behind 2 weeks now. Bottom line too little product too late for too much money! I do not recommend this company to anyone who needs some real good material. Mike Dutton - 24 years as a union carpenter
This is a complicated review, because overall I was very impressed with the customer service from us upper management. The general customer service did not seem to be helpful at all regarding a column that was broken into two during shipping. I had to buy a fifth column in order to get four good ones. Eventually being reimbursed by the shipper. Now that that the fiasco is over and the columns are installed I'm very pleased with them they're beautiful columns really adding a touch of elegance to the house. Because of the added effort of upper management that went above and beyond expectations to help me prepare for a wedding that was being held at the house I would purchase products from this company again.
Our pallet arrived with many of the boxes destroyed. My husband instructed the delivery to mark the Bill of Lading appropriately but the driver did not do this. So now Pacific Columns is saying we must pay for a replacement base.
Our order was split into two shipments. They did not arrive or travel during the same time frame. The capitals and bases were very late arriving. The shipper was supposed to call before arrival. This only happened with the first shipment.
Ryan is great. Pacific Columns is great. We'll probably buy from you again because you can provide a cost efficient solution for our aging porch columns.
Having said that, I really dislike these sorts of surveys. I know, everyone is doing it. It's the thing to do. And so on...
Overall I was very satisfied with all aspects of dealing with Pacific Columns. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the crates were extremely oversized making the columns difficult to unload and they didn't protect the columns very well. There were a few gouges that needed repaired before painting. While this is typical for shipments like this, there is room for improvement. As far as pricing goes, it was an additional $300.00 to have them shipped on a flatbed and I don't know how anyone could have unloaded them from a box truck without a perfect scenario of loading dock and forklift.
When our order arrived (2 pedestals), the first thing I checked: Are the edges straight and sharp? Yes, everything perfectly measured and cut. I'm sure the great job of packing insured all pieces arrived in pristine condition. The pedestals will be topped by 2 Craftsman-style outdoor post lamps, and will match closely the existing column wraps on two front porches. Our hats off to you, Pacific Columns.
This is about 4th time have used them. Always had my clients surprised how good they look. Contractors have called me after seeing them on my job wanting to know where did I get them. I really like tapered columns. Vick Freeman Renovation Service Inc.
I had a very good experience. My only issue arose when the order was delivered to the wrong address. Fed Ex talked about additional charges etc., but went ahead and just delivered to correct address which was 8 miles away. I emailed my rep but did not hear back. All in all, I'm very happy. Product is installed and looks fabulous. Arrival was ahead of what I expected as well. Nice job overall. Thank you.
The customer sales representative was very responsive to my questions and requests for changes to the proposal. Shipping and delivery time were as quoted. At this time I have not installed the product so it is difficult to comment on product quality. My only suggestion for improvement would be an email notifying me that the order had shipped with a tracking number included. That is standard procedure for most other companies that I have dealt with when ordering building supplies online.
Shipment arrived timely, but one package was damaged and it was noted with the courier. Shipping packing slip listed 13 packages but only 12 arrived. I still have not heard back from customer service.
Pre-order assistance from Andrew Gonzales was excellent., as was his follow-up quotation, response to questions, and order processing. The columns arrived within a week of shipping. We have yet to unpack and install them.
Over several years I have purchased several shipments from PC, from molding to columns to medallions and domes. All have arrived, intact, promptly and have stood up as promised. I appreciate a vendor whose products live up to their reputation.
Sam has proven to be quite knowledgeable and willing to spend time with me in looking for the right product.
This combination of reasonable cost, informed sales people and products that actually do what they claim to do is a winner!
Excellent customer service on the phone that sealed the deal for me when I was considering my purchase. Extremely knowledgeable associate who followed up immediately with detailed emails and examples. I used him as a point of contact days later when I had further questions. Customer service was always extremely prompt. Shipping was well organized and managed really well through a division of Fed Ex that called several times and helped arrange delivery - again well managed. Good experience top to bottom.
My job was set back 6 weeks due to the manufactures pallet that was supplied, because of its poor construction, my (3) columns where damaged by a fork truck on the first delivery, then weeks later again on the second delivery, finally someone listened to me and got it right in the third delivery. I don't believe Pacific Columns did enough to prevent my issue to get resolved in a timely manner. It would be hard to use you Company again and also refer to my other contractors in the business.
