PCI says "Based on the photos you sent, the defects shown are a result of damage sustained in transit. Damage was not noted on the carrier's bill of lading which releases them and our production team of liability. Because of this, I [PCI] cannot provide free replacements or a refund." CAUTION #1 - If you buy their columns, DO NOT allow the freight carrier to depart until ALL cartons are opened and inspected. DO NOT allow them to leave without first documenting any damage on the Proof of Delivery (POD) and DO get the driver's signature on it and retain a copy. DO get photos BEFORE they come off the truck and photos of ANY damage to cartons and product. Our shipment weighed 560 pounds and the columns weigh in excess of 100 pounds each. Insist that the freight carrier assign two men to get the columns off the truck WITHOUT YOUR ASSISTANCE when they call to set a delivery appointment. CAUTION #2 – PCI Terms & Policies at https://www.pacificcolumns.com/terms-and-policies state "Orders Shipping Common Carrier require you to unload the items." DO read the following: "To Delivery... And Beyond!: The Boundaries of Carrier Liability for Unloading (A Clear Answer to Muddled Facts)" at https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=03897da1-330a-48a5-8983-76b53c01caf1 D. It reads in part:: Consignee Duty and Liability: A Clear Supreme Court Holding and Its Progeny Unlike many other situations, here, there is very clear case law on this point. The United States Supreme Court has squarely held that the duty to unload goods rests upon the consignee: The general rule is that it is the responsibility of the carrier... to `deliver' the goods by placing them in such a position as to make them accessible to the consignee. Normally unloading is not a part of the delivery and is performed by the consignee. PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT - PCI may not have packaged correctly. In view of the apparent fragility of the columns, notwithstanding PCI Online claims to the contrary, the columns fractured. Regardless of how the damage was inflicted, and by whom, mere cardboard boxing of columns stacked upon one another and banded to a pallet less in length than the overhanging eight-foot columns does not afford adequate protection. Additionally, NO SPECIAL HANDLING REQUIREMENTS appear anywhere in any PCI website pages or available pdf literature. CONCLUSION: In view of the above, it is my VERY STRONG RECOMMENDATION that you DO NOT purchase products from PCI unless you can obtain a written and signed agreement from them that THEY ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIBILITY FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGE TO THE SHIPMENT UNTIL IT IS DEPOSITED ON YOUR PROPERTY BY THEIR CARRIER and THEY obtain "CARGO GOODS IN TRANSIT INSURANCE" for the shipment AT THEIR EXPENSE.
The sales rep was wonderful and very helpful! Everything was delivered promptly. I had a couple of small items that were damaged due to shipping problems but I reported it immediately and they were replaced within days. I purchased load bearing fiberglass columns and also shutters and they are beautiful!
The sales rep was great. The product however is so flimsy feeling that I am shocked that it cost as much as it did. I don't necessarily mind paying for quality but the columns seem so flimsy. It now makes me wonder about all their other products.
It appears I will have to prep the columns to install, it looks like both the top and bottom will have to be squared up. But if that is the only issue is was worth the savings. Local pricing was over 2 times more! Sam Pease was excellant all through the process, even answered my concerns about the negative feedback I found. He saved this sale!
Excellent all around. The lady was very knowledgeable about the products and prompt with email quotes. Can't say anything bad. Delivery was on time too. Packaged well on a pallet and wrapped with clear wrap.
You prompt delivery was great. I am very please with your company thus far. Robin was wonderful in assisting me with the order. Thank you so much for your professionalism in all respects. Evelyn Owens
The columns I got from Pacific go together so easy. Normally I would have made these myself, but I can't beat the price and the maintenance free material is great. I've done two jobs now using these columns and have been more than impressed.
I would have given it 5 stars all round, except delivery time was a little more than anticipated and there was some slight damage to one of the larger columns, that i'll have to repair.
Other than that, it was overall a good experience.
Excellent overall experience. The online videos of the owner were great and very helpful. The only thing that was not handled perfectly was a change of "ship to" address was not communicated to the truck driver. I would definitely purchase again in the future.
I was certainly glad I found this company while searching the internet. I was looking for ways to improve the appearance of my front porch. Their professional sales and delivery made it easy for a normal homeowner to vastly improve a homes curve appeal.
You need to improve your product description to include how (with a CADD drawing and measurements) the column caps are not closed and measurements on trim details. Detail information on the trim bead at the top of the square columns needs to be explicit for those of us who are cutting that detail off.
Thank you.
We just received the catalog and are reviewing the content. I have to convince my wife that the columns are designed to cover 6" X 6" post or round post. She thinks the columns are solid with the 6 by's already in the column. I really like the products and will contact you asap. I'm leaving town Wednesday 17 May and won't return until next week. My wife and I will then go over the products, select the design we prefer and contact you for unanswered questions.
Overall I'm very happy with my columns. They were fairly easy to cut to size and work with in general. Delivery through FedEx was great. Columns were received earlier than anticipated.
On the negative side, the hardware to secure the columns to the floor and overhead are plastic so could be stronger. The capitals are made of a soft foam material and they had some dents and scratches that I had to caulk over.
Was disappointed to find out after I placed my order that there were additional shipping costs which were half again the cost of the post. You should post this on your website to let customers know in advance. Took over 2 weeks to receive my order. Likely will not order again due to the high cost of shipping.
This was not exactly an order proper. It was a request for a printed catalogue. I want to say how helpful the catalogue is. It is beautifully laid out and gives a fuller picture of the wide selection of products you offer in a way the website cannot. Honestly, I have been on the website many times, but I had not really seen the half of what you offer. I think it is a good idea to have the printed catalogue available to your customers. It is a excellent tool, together with the website, to convey the breadth of selection and to highlight features of the products that may be less obvious in the online format. It is certainly more convenient.
Only one issue, the columns were not square cut on the top end, this could have been done more efficiently at the factory, and should have been done. This required additional time for the installation process. I understand the bottom not being squared, because they have to be cut to specific job length, and have no issue with that. Otherwise I am satisfied with the product.
I had hoped that I would receive a discount where there was a scrape rather than to hear to cover it with touch up paint since it is at eye level
The columns change the look in our backyard and we have received compliments for them.
I did not call and may have if the installer did not come up with a solution for installing the top and bottom caps. I will call with his suggestion and solution.
When I purchased the columns the Sales person said they would ship in 3 to 6 business days...That was a myth. So I called Pacific Columns Customer Service 4 times in three weeks and on the 4th call I was told there was a problem in the warehouse...The columns finally shipped after 4 weeks (20 business days). I wish that Pacific Columns would have communicated to me the reality of what was going on.
Not happy with how our ordered was handled. No one kept us informed on the progress of our order and when we emailed or left message we did not get response. When we finally did talk to Ryan Shumaker he was unapologetic and rude. Things do happen but Ryan's attitude was unacceptable.
The whole experience was fast and the customer service personnel were very helpful. Our order was placed in minutes and the delivery time was fairly quick for it being a customer built product. Overall we are very pleased and will be using you again if we ever need a similar product.
I called to talk to sales representative and he was very helpful in selecting the perfect column for my patio. My husband and I installed them this weekend and they are beautiful! We are so happy and if need columns again we would contact you again.
I ordered some columns from you guys and there was an issue with processing. I waited and waited to hear some kind of confirmation and I never received one. I called back to check on order and the rep said it fell through the cracks and never offered any kind of assistance. I ended up losing money on my end because of your mistake.
Pacific Columns was great. The online ordering was simple and straight-forward. And the person who helped finalize the order for me, Andrea, was excellent. There was a small issue where the expiration date of the credit card was incorrect but Pacific Columns reached out to me immediately to fix the issue and there did not appear to be any delay in production. Things like that come up, it is inevitable. But I appreciate when they are resolved quickly and professionally, as this was.
I was a little sad that FedEx freight temporarily lost my order and sent it to Oregon before delivering it to me in NJ. This caused a delay and minor inconvenience for me.
Although I have only just received my columns and am a ways away from the final installation I am happy with what I see so far. I tore the boxes open immediately to see what I had. They appear to be everything I am looking for to up date the entry of my 1970 colonial tri level.
For the most part it was a good shopping experience. The fish scale shingle siding pieces were good. I ordered the pvc columns and they look good but I think for the next job I will make my own. They just feel kind of cheap and on two of the columns the corners were broken off. I had to put nailers on the inside of all the corners and then have a big enough post on the inside so I would have something to secure the column wrap to. If you make a mistake there is no way to take it apart without breaking it because the material is so thin. I ordered what the customer wanted but I feel like they were not worth the money and just took a lot of work to build up the 4x4 post on every side to the exact depth for the entire column.
Great-A little worried about big rig entering neighborhood, but the driver planned for distribution with a regional driver with a box truck. The delivery went off without a hitch, and all parts in tact.
