We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..

My money was withheld without a valid reason, no car was provided, and no policy was presented to justify the company's actions. For over a month, I've been trying to recover the funds that were wrongfully taken, but I only receive generic and evasive responses from different "representatives" of Rentalcars.com. Even when I requested a physical address to initiate legal proceedings, my request was evaded.

Never rent from this company especially where they offer deals such has free fuel, free GPS or insurance for multiple drivers. It is all a con. When you arrive to collect your car the actual car hire company you hire from will tell you they have never heard of this premium package. They don't give you free fuel and penalise you if you don't bring the car back with a full tank. They have never heard of insuring multiple drivers so their advice 'Do it at your own risk!' and the car has GPS anyway. It is all a scam by 'Rentalcars' to take more money from you for actually no extra benefit. It is false advertising but they know we can't do anything about it. On top of this when you complain they don't care. Avoid at all costs.

I was suppose to pay only $33 at counter as per my rentalcars.com voucher. Instead they required me to pay $109 at counter. I called the customer service after that she asked me to proceed and open up case for the refund.

When I opened up the case they closed it without notifying me and when I called and presented that it was their represenative who asked to me to proceed after she realized they provided wrong amount on voucher she hung up the phone on me. Goons with pretty voice.

This site has a major flaw and advertises free cancelation if cancelled prior to pick up. I did cancel and they refused to refund me.

I booked and then cancelled a few minutes later. I had reviewed the cancellation charges and saw these to be free. However rental cars.com says otherwise, and has fought my bank for the money. My bank has left me out of pocket also.

This site works with a lot of shady companies like ca rental and etc who don't honor the price promised on this website. Do not use this website even if you get a good deal.

Booked an "AWD or similar" car to get me from the airport to the ski resort I was staying at. When checking in I was told that the class booked was a 2 wheel drive car and I had to pay to upgrade to the vehicle class that I wanted. I appreciate vehicles given may differ to the make/model specified but the attribute I was most concerned about was having an all wheel drive vehicle. Customer services aren't no help after the event either, won't be using RentalCars.com ever again and I'd advise anyone else reading this review to book directly with the company they're seeing the good deals from.

They took almost 1k yesterday but because i did not receive a confirmation e-mail, i called my credit card and they said give it 24 hours. I waited and then used reddit to find out it is a scam they piggy back by saying rentalcars.com by Booking.com.
Booking.com is legit, Rentalcars.com is not legit. The credit card will mail a new card to me because they are fraudulent.

I rented a car for $108.90
Paid for it when I went to pick it up I had to pay over almost 500.
So the car ended up costing me $608.90.
They are a terrible company to deal with.
Do not use this company they are awful.

I ordered a car through rentalcars, when I came to pick up the car, the representative who received me started the conversation by saying that it was a shame that I ordered the car through an external company, that in the future I always have to order through the rental company directly.
He threatened me, that if I take the vehicle as I ordered through rentalcars, he will have to block 2000 euros on my credit account and it will take them several months to release.
He forced me to take full insurance through the rental company and said that rentalcars collection would be cancelled.

But i was charged twice. Very bad service. Stay away!

I booked a rental car through their website for 28 days. Mistakenly, booked for SAN Jose California instead of San Jose, Costa Rica. Called Payless rental car rental and cancelled the booking which Payless had cancelled already since I didn't show up. When I contacted rentalcars.com they refused to refund any of $1300 I prepaid. In the rental agreement in the fine print it states if you don't cancel within a certain time you forfeit your money. So even though Payless canceled the car, the third party carrental.com. Refused a refund. Awful service 😡

They charged full prices at the time of making an online booking. I followed all the instructions they provided. Waited hours in the line at the rental counter and yet they denied my reservation stating new rules which were never mentioned in any of their instructions or terms & conditions that they shared with me at the time of booking. Neither did they provide the rental car, nor did they return my deposit. Customer care was unreachable even though I tried calling many times from the rental counter. Later I reached out to them via email and customer support chat options as well, but each time they rudely denied my request and never returned my deposit. Also I asked several times to just show me the details of the clause which I did not meet, but they did not produce any document or terms & conditions to support that. I feel very convinced that it is part of their scam to deny customers' valid insurance and to force people in needy situation to pay exorbitant amount to buy the same from them. Terrible service, filled with scams. I would strongly recommend all to try avoiding this company at all cost.

Cancelled prepaid car due to flight delay and no refund. Customer service is useless and covering with terms and conditions where I should have informed them of any issues with the flight! So money gone, car not provided. When it looks like a fraud and sounds like a fraud, its most likely a fraud.

Total scam. At pickup, was told my $100/300 ins. Coverage wasn't enough (charged $189 for their $300/500). Declined their toll tag charges (had my own mobile tag). After return, was charged for use of theirs ($15/day + tolls + $25/toll [their fee]). It's taken 4 months to clear it through my credit card. Tried to charge me for dents in the car - good thing I had taken pictures at rental. Total BS company.

Tip for consumers:
When I realized how I was being scammed at the rental desk, I told them to cancel, and I would go to a reputable company in the airport. Their response was, " Fine. But we've already been paid, and we don't give refunds. You'll be wasting your time and paying double. Your choice."

Rented a 7 passenger vehicle a month ago and now three days before my trip they send me a confirmation for a 5 passenger car. The rep was very hard to understand and she insisted that I was wrong and that the car is a 5 passenger. As though I don't have the printed original confirmation in front of me saying 7 passenger Ford Explorer. Talked over me to the point that I was yelling at her. Offered to change the reservation to a 7 passenger mini-van for TWICE the price and refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. What am I supposed to do with my two extra passengers?! Now I have to wait for the refund which according to the other reviews here may never come. Possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Terrible company didn't have terms and conditions of individual car companies clearly labeled and blamed me for not being able to rent a car through a certain company and wanted to keep my initial deposit

Took me three hours to get a refund of $30 that they were going to steal from me. They should've just took responsibility and saved me the time and hassle

I used rental cars.com because I thought it would be easier. When I picked up the car at budget, the contract literally gave me 17 minutes which I missed because the print is so small, that I misread it. Apparently the information was either passed along incorrectly or typed in incorrectly. Either way I got charged an extra day, plus I had to drop the car off at another location. I got charged to return the car to a different location because the office I was supposed to drop it off was closed. Then I got charged $22 because I was.5 shy of full The gas gage looked full and the gas pump shut off when full. I got refunded the $22 but nothing else Bring your microscope and read the fine print

Avoid at all cost! I made a booking over booking.com. I didn't have a credit card on my name. I had cash and debit. Went to another rent a car and lost 350€! No refund! No car!

Guys this is soo bad, don't fall in sane trap as I did!

I booked a car which was written in the offer literally "free cancelation". Then, when I needed to cancel, they stated that there was a cancellation tax - which accounted for the same amount I have paid. I called them twice, sent three e-mails, and they stated that I did not cancel, even though If I had cancelled, I would have agreed to loose all the money. Do yourself a favor and do not do business with this company.

No flexibility whatsoever! I have booked with them 2 times and have been disappointed both the times! First time, my flight plans changed by 3 hours and they defaulted my payment anyway. This time I booked an economy car (which said similar to Kia Picante). I even I got a reminder on email 2 days before the due date on the same...with no mention of automatic or manual transmission. I reach the destination (outside US) and sure enough they hand me over a car with stick gears! I void the whole reservation and try to find where I can reach out to rentalcars.com...there is no phone number available anywhere! They are some UK based company and has only the VAT number in their contact info...How helpful is that!
2 days later, I was able to locate the phone number and customer service person bluntly tells me that my "voucher" had manual transmission (I have no idea what that means!) and they will not refund anything.
Never gonna go with them again!

When you get to the rental agency that you 'reserved' car at. You will THEN PAY A RENTAL FEE,DEPOSIT,ETC! Very shady deals, & a rip off! A 3 day economy rental cost me a total of $475.98! Next time I'll be renting from BUDGET OR UHAUL!

The prices the site shows for rental cars. Seems to be ONLY A RESERVATION FEE! Because, I was charged another fee for rental of 25.53 a DAY! (26.99) + TAXES,(STATE,COUNTY,CITY) & FEES (GOV'T SERV.FEE,LICENSE RECOVERY FEE, ENERGY RECOVERY FEE, TRANSPORTATION FEE, McCARREN AP FEE! Total $404.66! 3 DAY ECONOMY RENTAL!!

I lost my booking money. My credit card, working everywhere else in the same days, was refused at the point of collection machines. Unable then pick up the car, on the phone the customer service tells me that will cancel the reservation and I recommend to open then complaint attaching evidence. Many days later, I discover that the reservation has not even been cancelled yet. Finally despite filing the complaint, attaching all receipts of denied credit card transactions (but authorized by my bank), I only got back the money of the insurance and not of the reservation. The customer service was very bad, waiting for a month between a message and a reply, many operators who asked what the problem was despite having already described everything from the beginning in writing. Poorly organized service or maybe too well planned? A scam? I absolutely do not recommend.

My flight delayed couple hours and neither get the car nor the refund. That's quite a frustrating service. It was also part of booking.com that's the worst thing because I had no problem with booking.com before.
They send me an email with some $#*! info on their website. Here it is "In case of delay, reservations will be held for 59 minutes from the specified reservation time, after which they will be classed as a no-show."
So you have 59-minute timeframe to get that car! 59 minutes then it's a no-show and this means no refund as well. Quite a scam!
Thanks god I did not purchase their overpriced insurance.

Never dealt with such a non-responsive company. Car rental went fine. Having bought full insurance coverage, filed a claim for tire/wheel damage (~$400). After >5 months, have not even received a response, let alone any insurance reimbursement. Agents do nothing to help. Totally frustrating!

DO NOT TRUST rentalcars.com
You will find yourself like so many others (including myself) completely out of pocket and without a rental car! Disgusting customer service that does not take you seriously & that's if you're lucky enough to get a hold of anyone. Today alone, I've received the same email response 3 times to different queries. This business does not issue invoices or have any accountability and has seen so many people forfeit their entire rental fee regardless of the circumstances. I'm out of pocket $1200 for a said booking and now having to fork out even more than that for an additional booking with a different rental agency that does meet my needs. Rentalcars.com didn't even offer to assist me another booking?!
