“Deposit hasn't paid back on time”

We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..

We needed to modify the driver and they said the only way we could do that was to cancel and book again. The cancelation fee is 175 chf, they said they would reimburse us and then we canceled and they said they wouldn't reimburse us because we canceled. The agencies give better service and more logical modifications, as well as better rates. Rentalcars is not worth it

I shop for deals when I'm traveling just like you. I found that rentalcars.com had a competitive price for a 6 day rental for my family vacation. DO NOT BE FOOLED. You'll get your voucher and take it to the desk of the rental car agency they partner with. My rental TRIPLED in cost. They suck you in, get your money and get you to the front desk where the real charges start. So what I'm telling you is that you pay for a rental car thru Rentalcars.com and then the company they pick for you charges more fees for the same rental again. I paid over $1100.00 for a 6 day car rental...and it wasn't even that nice of a car... I mean what service did rentalcars.com perform for me?
My impression is that rentalcars.com got their commission and after that does not want to help their customers or be their agent when things go bad so now I'm forced to take it up with an agency I would have never hired had it not been for rentalcars.com.
When I contacted rentalcars.com they told me the "agency desk" was not answering and they would email me back. Nope - never heard from them. Had to go thru it all again. Rentalcars.com has no solutions, advice, suggestions when the car you rented triples in price. Please - do not use this middle man.

Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible. We paid more just to ensure we were covered. Our flight into Pula was due to land at 9.30 p.m. and was late. We arrived to pick up the car about 10.15 and was astounded that we had to wait 45 minutes in a queue (with only two in front of us) while they tried to sell every foreseeable extra to the people in front. Then they tried with us. You need to realise that if you book fully comprehensive as we did, to cover all eventualities, you are not buying it from the rental company. We added an additional driver, but then found out it was only basic because it was not with the same company. We then were told we had to pay an extra 39 Euros amount for late pick up as it was after 9.00 p.m. but we were always going to arrive after that time, so it should have been quoted for. Customer service, appalling, they have taken months to come back, completely missed the point of our complaint and then said we need to claim against our insurance company. Absolutely disgraceful. Whatever you do, book direct with a hire company. Oh, and to add to this, when we tried to exit the car park, it did not recognise the number plate so we had to go back in to get the gates lifted. All after a flight, when you are tired. Appalling.

Hertz rental car upgraded the car I had ordered through rentalcars for 20 extra. It turns out that this was a new contract and Rentalcars charged me for the original product.

Tip for consumers:
I think both Thrifty and Rentalcars were poor in this case but rental cars ended up charging me for something I never received.

Booked a car for a vacation in Boston, MA. Arrived at Logan INT Airport and the car rental company informed me that I could not pick up the car because I don't have an International license. The car had been pre paid and now I'm close to $2000 in the whole and RentalCars is refusing to reimburse me. Horrendous experience, NEVER USE THEM.

HORRIBLE! I pre paid through rentalcars.com. When I returned the vehicle, Payless charged me again... FOR SOMEONE ELSES RESERVATION! I PROVIDED ALL THE DOCUMENTATION... both companies say 'you have to contact them' And now both Payless and Rentalcars.com refuse to refund me anything. I AM NOT LETTING THIS GO!

I booked a car on rentalcars.com. Got to the rental counter - no such reservation. They charged my card and I had no reservation. On hold for 40 minutes with of course no answer. Had to rent another car at very high rate. Now have been charged for 2 rental cars reservations and can't get refund. I am filing compliant with FTC and also filed fraud claim with my credit card. USE ANYONE TO GET A RENTAL CAR EXCEPT THIS COMPANY NO MATTER WHAT THE COST!

This site is a bit of a scam. The car I booked and had to pay for in full wasn't available at the rental counter. I was given a much cheaper car. I couldn't easily contact rentalcars.com. You have to submit a case to which you have to wait over 10 days to get a respond which is basically to go scr*w yourself. I paid 4,000USD for my rental period and got a car worth 1,500 USD at most. They offered me a refund of 50 USD! What a joke. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

First time I used them I paid for a Lexus to impress a client; got a "similar Toyota CHR" second time Their online "E-voucher" said one credit card and identification is needed; however when I got there they said we need two credit cards and charged me 300$ to cancel. Again I paid for a Mercedes and they were going to give me a Volvo. They always says "this car or similar" you always will get the "similar". The customer service after and during was terrible, only way to communicate with them is through a U. K. Number and you will spend 20-40 minutes of wasted roaming charge time getting no where. Finally they opened a case and claim the proof I gave them was "unclear" as they were screen grabs of the E-Voucher. I travel 10-15 times a year and for renting cars it's much easier to just go to the counters and see what's available there's at least 7 rental companies in every major airport. And you get better deals as the companies will throw in car seat, GPS etc for free in order to close the deal.

I booked a car in Scotland, through Rentalcars with Full Protection Insurance. When I pick up the car, I paid 300 GBP as a deposit, and because I had 2 crack tires this deposit was not returned to me.
Because I have the Full Protection Insurance, I claim this deposit to be returned to me by Rentalcars on 31 March, and so far I didn´t get any response neither the return of the money. I tried to contact help center, and a very rude lady, Luisa Fernanda, told me this normally takes 28 working days to solve, which I consider not acceptable at all!
I want my deposit to be return to me as soon as possible, as crack tires are covered by the insurance and this is a very straightforward situation.

UNTRUSTWORTHY COMPANY AND LIKELY SCAM. I never picked up the rental car and they still billed me. They are amateurs and don't know the first thing about keeping their reputation clean. They don't care AND WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY. DON'T USE THEM AND SPREAD THE WORD! I had to dispute charge on my credit card. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM

Cancellation policy is a sham! Never have I not been given a full refund or charged if I cancelled when dealing directly with rental car companies. Do not use rentalcars.com!

These guys are crooks, they quote you one price, then charge you another price in a more expensive currency

When you ring to complain they blame bank currency charges, even though you are booking and renting in the same HOME currency

At best they will give you a discount on the next rental. Not that i would EVER use them again

And apparently if you try to claim on their insurance you are really screwed

I'M WARNING YOU. THEY PARTNER WITH (NEXT CAR RENTAL IN SEATTLE WA AIRPORT. THEY HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. AND THEY COULD BE SCAMMERS TOO. THEY SENT SUTTLE DRIVER WHO WAS LATE ABOUT 35 MINUTES AND WHEN I ASK HIM WHY HE WAS LATE HE GAVE ME THE MIDDLE FINGER AND TOOK OFF, THE PICTURE BELOW IS THE VAN HE WAS DRIVING

Unlike actual rental car agencies this broker will fully charge your credit card upfront and refuse to allow any flexibility or alterations to your contract. I did not receive an email confirmation and they insisted that I did -- as if emails don't go missing even if you send them. You have to print or generate their voucher to get the information about the rental as well as to show to the car rental agency -- ridiculous for an online booking -- and since I didn't get their email I didn't have the voucher.

The rental agency itself tried to assist me as best they could but even they don't get paid by rentalcars.com until the end of the rental period and their hands are pretty tied by the contract you sign with rentalcars.com.

It took me about 2 hours to get the car after arriving at the airport, it would have taken 15 minutes if I had booked with a major car rental agency instead of using these thieves at rentalcars.com. I had to take a train to a pick up location and wait for their bus... nothing I saw in their website led me to believe I would face this hassle to save maybe $20.

Just go straight to the agencies and avoid this company at all costs.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Our flight out of Charlotte, NC was cancelled due to Hurricane Ian shutting the airport down. When we called to say we needed to cancel or change our rental they said there were none of our vehicles available for the next day and they would not refund our deposit. Spoke to Pedro and he said that they would make an exception for Florida but not any other states. Asked to speak to a manager and was told that they were in a meeting and could not talk to us.

I booked a car on their site. I arrived at the rental car location and even though it was supposed to be open, it was not. Some people outside told me the manager was running late. I was in the Middle East at the time and waited outside in the desert heat for 15 minutes and left.

When I came back, I attempted to get a refund for my rental by talking to their customer support online. They refused to issue one and further blamed me for not calling them to fix the issue - even though I clearly explained that they have an international number and my cell phone cannot call outside of the country.

To add insult to injury, the customer support agent refused to end the chat after I said I would provide a poor rating. Indeed, the agent actually mocked me and said "good luck with that."

Absolutely terrible company. I have reached out to their CEO with a transcript of the issue and have not yet received a response. I am also disputing the charge with my credit card and am also considering filing a claim in court including reimbursement for attorney fees.

Next time, will go with Expedia. They are so much more customer-friendly.

I was charged twice for a rental car by rentalcars.com and Sixt rental cars where i picked the car up from. Both companies charged me, and both refused to refund me the money. Rentalcars.com ensured me they would get my money back over the phone, but was required to submit forms and proof via there customer service page. After a month of providing all the rental documents, emails, etc. they dropped the case and said they cannot provide any refund and case is now closed. They will not respond to any of my emails or request. I am not sure if this happens frequently between this third party and their rental partners, but rentalcars.com will not help you resolve these issues. I would avoid using these third party rental services in the future and just rent directly from the car rental entities themselves.

Poor customer service and misleading company. I will be placing rentalcars.com on the banned vendor list for my company as this was a company work trip this occurred to avoid further complications in the future.

Avoid at all costs.
No help, no response to reported problems. It is only important to rate the employee highly in the survey. Much better and safer to book directly with a rental company.

THIS IS A SCAM SITE, AVOID AT ALL COST. Here's how they tried to scam me: they take your money upfront (unlike every other car rental service, which you can cancel at any time, or even just not show up, and you won't pay a cent). Then when you try to cancel, they want to charge you $100 to cancel. Also: they lie in their app about the requirements so that you will almost certainly have to cancel. For example, they say you don't need an International Driver's Permit in Europe when in fact you do. SCAM SCAM SCAM

Rented online and canceled 24 hours prior to reservation. They refused to provide a refund. Customer service was incredibly poor. Better of renting direct from car company.

Our bus was running late, and when we finally reached the airport to get the car, it had been given away due to some fine print. So, we had spent extra money to get to the airport, only to arrive to pickup a fully pre-paid car which had been given to another person. The only remaining options were hundreds of euros more for those days. The guy at the Hertz counter was on his phone when we arrived and told us to wait, and finally about 10 minutes later he was done texting and called us over. They didn't honor the pricing we had for a car and give us another for the same cost like would have happened in the USA. Rather we were told we could wait for a couple of hours to see if a car became available. Instead we went to Avis/Budget and rented another car.

The guy at Hertz told us to contact rentalcars.com for a refund. Upon contacting the rental cars customer service, they say "I am limited to my resources to do such things like cancel or refund on the transaction, however what we can do here is to file a claim, on that part I'll be needing your help as you will be needing file it on your end..." So, we will see if the runaround game stops and we get a refund.

Advice: Use the rental car company directly, not rentalcars.com

Worst customer experience I could possibly imagine. Predatory scam!

I booked a car with Wiber (car hire company) through rentalcars.com website and the car hire company wouldnt give it to me because my Driving License and Passport were from 2 different countries. They told me they will refund me and that I should call rentalcars.com because I booked through them. I tried calling them and the guy was completely useless and didnt understand the problem. I called back the next day and they told me that they WILL NOT REFUND me because 24 hours had passed. Completely unacceptable. Never using rentcalrs.com again.

Go DIRECTLY to the car rental company. Don't use rentalcars.com
