Used rentalcars.com on my vacation to the UK. They were great and went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer Will use them again
We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..
They are supporting "Dollar Rent a Car"s insurance scam: Just like hundreds and hundreds of other customers, we were ripped off by Dollar, and rentalcars.com are not helping us to get our money back. Dollar charged us almost $ 500 (on top of a 1000 Dollar rental) for insurance we never wanted or agreed to.
This is how it works:
They take your signature (that you have to sign on a computer screen when picking up the car) and copy it onto a paper contract. On the paper contract, they add all kinds of insurances that you verbally declined (or that they don't even mention during the entire process of the pick-up!).
When you return the car, they charge it to your credit card. If you then contact them and tell them you never signed the actual contract, they will tell you they have your signature on the contract (by means of signature forgery!), and they won't refund it. If you file a dispute with your credit card company, they will show them the paper contract and tell them you signed for it.

rentalcars.com better stop doing business with "Dollar Thrifty", before they go under together. Do not rent your car here, they are part of the fraud!

Rentalcar.com is an internet brocker, thez actually own no cars, they charge some fees and then when you go to the real rental compagny you will have to do a crédit card print for garantee. After that this compagny charges you for whatever fees they want and you don't now about. And that they dont discuss with you when you pick up the car! Rental car respond all the time the same answers: "you accepted these fees by signing the contract at the compagny". Never sign a contrat at the compagny. Beware they are working togheter actually! I paid 160$ to rental car and the 200 $ to europcar 2 weeks later

I booked and pre-paid for a Citroen C4 (I realise that class of vehicle not the specific vehicle) through rentalcar.com. When I turned up at the Budget desk in Fuerteventura and after a 40 minute wait in the queue, I was advised that they didn't have any cars left at all apart from a Citroen C1, the smallest class of car. Given that there was no alternative available I agreed to take it and was told that the cost would be readjusted to compensate - I assumed downwards. Four suitcases didn't fit into the C1 and the drive to and from the airport to the hotel involved my daughter and wife sitting in the car with a suitcase each on their knee. Not ideal.
On receiving the invoice from Budget on my return, I noticed that I had been charge additional money and on enquiring with Budget Customer Service was told that the car that I was given was a higher class than a C4 because it was automatic and that was what I had been charged for! I didn't need, book or even want an automatic. I took the car as it was the only one available. Because Budget were unable to provide me with the car that I booked. And yet I have been charged additional money for the inability of Budget to honour my reservation.
Customer Services told me in no uncertain terms that that was the situation. Hard luck! Not good. Avoid. I won't be using RentalCars.CON ever again.

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. I was just hung up on by employee number ******* (Katrina), absolutely terrible company with terrible customer service. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late they have the ability to cancel your booking and offer you a zero refund. Due to a flight delay and then cancelation I was unable to pick my car up at 10:30PM one evening, and I arrived in the morning to pick up but my booking was canceled. Meaning, they kept every cent that I paid and provided me zero help. I gave them notice and heads up, but they don't care at all. The customer service is terrible and they don't care about their customers. This company is a total scam. I would recommend booking directly with the company rather saving a negligible amount of money booking through them. TERRIBLE COMPANY, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

TOTAL SCAM!
We booked through rentalcars.com and paid in advance by debit card to rent a car from dollaruae.com. Apparently in Dubai a credit card is a compulsory form of ID even if you have paid and have a passport. Since we didn't have a credit card tohand, we were refused rental and the adviser said the booking has been cancelled and we would get a refund and as proof gave a copy of an email she sent to the head office cancelling the booking. After returning home we checked the booking email and realised that the online company was registered in the UK and that sounded odd so tried contacting them to inform them as well, however none of the numbers on their site worked and we had to send an email instead. And now the 2 companies are insisting that we should have contacted them separately on the day of collection and that rentalcars.com was not aware that our booking had been cancelled - this seems very odd and self serving considering they communicated the information regarding the booking to dollar in the first place and call themselves their partners.
They are refusing to refund even part of the AED 2000 (over $500) that they took as advance payment.
The entire rental agreement has been drafted to scam customers since the contract is so long and technical you would need a lawyer to explain it to you

I have used rentalcars.com before in europe and have had an overall positive experience. However, their North and South American Services has been terrible.
Chile-2016. Rental car company offices were closed upon scheduled arrival. 10:00am on a Sunday, and were not scheduled to open for three days... If I had know this during my booking I would have looked elsewhere.
Mexico-2016. Visa's CDW (Collision Damage Waiver/Basic insurance) was not accepted by rental car company. Instead, to rent the car for a week the company Firefly would charge us $638/week for insurance... Beyond ludicrous pricing... For this price, we asked to see the car first. We were led to a nearly empty parking lot with one car remaining. The sales person said he was surprised how busy they were and that eh only had one car left (ours from our prepaid reservation). The car looks like it had driven through the trenches in World War I... Scratched, dented, dinged, and any extruding appendages the car had initially had been ripped off as it most evidently had been birthed through a cinder block wall... good heavens... the imagery of that prose...
Needless to say i will not be renting with RentalCars.Com in North or South America.

I booked a car 1,5 months before I needed it. Then (15 days before pick-up date), I decided to change the pick-up location. First of all, I contacted their support to find out if I have enought time to change the pick-up location then print voucher etc. they told me that it should take up to 48 hours. They also asked me if I'd like to change the drop-off location and I agreed. I asked if they require anything from my side to proceeed with my request before I left the chat, they wrote that nothing else is required and they will contact me by email. After 3 days I decided to check how the things are going. Guess what? I was told that they even didn't send my request cause they need my to confirm the drop-off location by the phone! I asked them just to change the pick-up location in this case (cause I didn't have time for a call etc.) and they told me that the request was sent to the rental company. Then I got in touch with them every 2 days and checking the progress (cause the time was passing) and at the end I asked to cancel my request cause I didn't have enough time to wait till I pick up the car. During the entire hire process and pick-up change, nobody got in touch with me. Moreover they didn't nothing with my request. I suggest to not use this service! Just use any other instead of this one
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this service, find another way to book a car.

I RENT A CAR from Brazil to pick in France At 10a. M, I arrived 13p. M because the train station of part dieu was evacuated for security resons. After 3 hours the supplier said they had my reservation cancelled for no-show, condition I have never heard before and it was not signed in any email ir term and condition, but just because they had no cars available.
I spent an hour with the vendor on the phone abroad and they decided to charge me full booking, for no-show even knowing I was calling from the supplier desk, because I did not accept to change my booking and pay 3x more for the same car.
If you don't wanna DAMAGE your holidays I advice you to not use this website, neither Alamo rent car SERVICE.

Every time I travel overseas I use the same company but this time I thought I would try RentalCars.com. I was thrilled when I found the great rate they offered. As is often found in real life SOME THINGS ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Their paperwork said we could opt to add insurance to our rental. I even made a telephone call to the company to verify this information. They were not able to find out and said they could not reach anyone in Shanon to confirm. I decided that since I had it in writing it must be true. When we arrived at the Shanon airport in Ireland, feeling rather travel weary and exhausted, we were informed by the car pick-up desk that insurance was not an option. It was required. What could we do at that point? My family was tired and staring at me... We had to have a car and the desk had the keys. The only choice was to pay the insurance which cost more than the original car rental. I will NEVER rent from this company again and I will do what I can to inform others that they need to be prepared to pay twice what they expect. My advice is to rent from a more reliable company.

The worst experience with a car rental EVER
Booked everything on rentalcars.com, asked for "Full protection" and paid in advance. Upon arrival at La Palma airport I got the first bad surprise: they told me I could either pay a 655 deposit by credit card (refundable at the end of the journey) or pay 87 - non refoundable. As I didn't have the 655 available on my credit card I had to pay the extra. On top of that I had to pay another 100 deposit for the fuel. The day of the departure I returned the car to the parking and went to the office to return the keys and get the 100 back. They made me wait for 20 minutes before opening the office and then another 30 minutes while somebody went and checked the car - all of this just to be told that I would not get the 100 deposit back because the car was "not clean enough". The girl at the desk said that if was not happy I could go to the police. My flight was departing in less than half an hour, I had to go. I call this a FRAUD. Two Dutch tourists were more lucky as they were only stolen 50. NEVER in my life am I going to use rentalcars.com or Herz again!

Made a reservation for a car in San Antonio, TX for a family vacation. My plans changed as I am a medical provider and our area is having an outbreak in CoVID-19 cases again. My son was flying in before me due to the change, but rentalcars.com would not change reservation name to his as he and his family (with 2 small children) were now coming in before me. I waited on hold for >45 minutes with actual rental agency - they couldn't help me cuz it was made through a 3rd party, Rentalcars.com would not answer their phone as they are overseas in England / Wales - they would not help through email. I even asked my daughter, who lives in town to go to airport and see if they could help as I was told possibly they could. I am so sorry I did not pay better attention when making reservation, now our family yearly vacation has a big hitch in it. My reservation will be lost as I don't get in until the next day due to my work. Now I will have to "buy" a car for the week instead of keeping / getting the one I made in advance. What a scam! Renters beware. Not at all customer friendly! Oh and to get this posted I have to make an account so they can harass me now. No help and no privacy!

Hired from rentalcars advised to have the full coverage insurance which I did
Then told by the company I collected the car from as it wasn't their cover it was invalid.
Hired the car Full to Full. Returned the car Full, nobody to return the car to just a letterbox. On arrival home, charged to refill the car. Luckily took photo to prove it was full.
Getting nowhere trying to get a refund. They're not interested why would they be they've already had your money.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ULESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF

Absolutely disgraceful service! Booked a hire car in Nov 2021 from Chambery Airport for 12/03/2022 -got an email from Budget to check in but the booking didn't exist, Budget stopped operating out of Chambery months ago and Rentalcars didn't know! After many emails telling them they conceded that budget weren't there, today ( the 11th) I have managed to speak with someone at Rentalcars who said you can have a refund we cant get you a car! -if it hadn't have been for me checking i would have been stranded at Chambery airport without and transport - they just didn't care and thought that offering me a full refund would make up for it! -WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND WILL MAKE A POINT OF PUTTING THIS REVIEW WHEREVER I CAN!

Rentalcars.com (agency) Booking Reference = *******
Car Rental company (ENTERPRISE / ALAMO) Booking Reference = *******039
My reservation was cancelled by the ENTERPRISE company for some technical reasons at the time of car pick-up. They have immediately cancelled the reservation on the system. Car rental company DO NOT receive any money from the agency Rentalcars.com until the car is picked-up, therefore the money are held "hostage" in the pocket of the agency Rentalcars.com.
After the cancellation of the car, I was told to contact the agency for the reinbursement but rentalcars.com after 45 days still DID NOT return my money. I also provided them with official documents from ENTERPRISE to prove the cancellation, but still they don't take any action.
I have an open request, official, in the agency website for refund, and yet they never reply. I have contacted the bank to dispute the transaction because I lost my faith.
This people are just THIEVES, stay away, do not use their services. Use the website rentalcars.com to find your best car, but then visit the rental car company directly and use your credit card directly with them (even if you pay a little more).
By doing so, any reimbursement from the car rental will return to your credit card directly. No brokers or agency in between that can do everything they want unpunished by the law.

In Breif: prepaid for a rental car which they never gave me! They wouldn't even refund me afterwards!
When I went to pick up the rental car I had prepaid for, they asked me to produce a credit card as per the guidelines of the voucher provided to me by rentalcars.com.
I had provided first an embossed Credit Card (same card I used to book the car with initially) with sufficient funds, but there was an error when the hold was requested and the transaction was declined. While rental cars maintains its my fault - I supplied them with a Credit Card certificate from my Bank and a certified statement that shows that on the date of the transaction, I had a valid and active credit card with sufficient funds.
I then proceeded to provide a second credit card, but the company refused to accept it as it was not embossed While my card is in fact a credit card - Rental Cars insisted that it was an E- card and not a credit card. I showed them both my E Card and the other card - they still refused to reimburse me.
I then provided a third credit card which belongs to my companion. The company also refused this card since the card holder name is different than the reservation name.
To date - they kept all my money and keep making excuse after excuse.

The customer service here is terrible, I am trying to contact them about my claim and they hung up on me when I asked to speak English and emailed me back from 4 different colleagues with different messages. Also, the email title was "RE: potential scammer" implying I am trying to scam them when I am just trying to sort the situation.
I got covid the day we were travelling and wanted to just change the main driver but the car company told us to cancel and rebook (so we still used their car service for the allocated days and just followed the advice we were given!). Then we lost 311 euros for cancelling within 48 hours. In trying to reclaim this money, Rentalcars confirmed they would put a note in our booking for the claims department to see, but now they are denying there is any note there.
We have now spent over 800 euros with Rentalcars.
The first booking was ******* and the second was *******.
I am really disappointed because they assured me on the phone last week that it would be sorted and are now denying and ghosting me. I will not be using this service again and advising others not to as well.

We were charged more than double what we expected we would need to pay.
We booked the option to have a second driver through rentalcars.com and therefore thought it was included in the price but we got charged for it again by Europcar.
Also we did not get the small car we wanted (Toyota Aygo) but an "upgrade" which was just a car that needed to be in the country we ended our holidays. A car that needs to be brought back to its home country is totally fine, but not the huge model (Toyota Avensis) we got instead of what we booked.
They told us to not hand in the car with full fuel because the fee for fuel there would be cheaper than what we would pay for it (because they have a deal with gas stations which made sense for us at the time). That was definitely not true, since we had to pay about 50 EUR for 20 liters of standard gas.
Also there were additional 30 EUR for taxes from Europcar on top of what was stated that the fees for gas, one-way and additional driver would be costing.
When we complained when we brought the car back the guy just told us "I can not do anything about it, that is how it works".
We looked at everything very closely and read the contracts at the counter but because of the explanations we got there and the additional deposit it is very unclear what you actually need to pay in the end.
Tip for consumers:
Be ready to pay more than you thought you will, even if you check thoroughly.

Do not use this site. Seems like a good deal, but if anything goes wrong in getting to your destination (delay/cancellation), rentalcars.com will NOT work with you and will take your money anyway. My husband and I went on our honeymoon and flew to Madrid, Spain from Miami, Florida and were to pick up our car at the airport. There were MAJOR airline delays, which ended up totaling to almost 19 hours, and we were getting very little information from the airline which was very stressful. By the time I was able to contact rentalcars.com after getting new flight information and accounting for the time difference between FL and Spain, they said they couldn't help me, my rental had been cancelled, and I was not getting a refund. Rentalcars.com had our flight information and knew our flight was majorly delayed but took our money anyway, so we paid for a car we didn't get. When we got to Madrid, we had to book a new rental at the desk. We are out an extra $500 due to this. Customer service is awful and unhelpful - when I did speak to someone on the phone at the airport, that person wouldn't speak to me even though I was the person who made the booking and whose contact info was on it, he wanted to speak to my husband, who literally had no idea what was going on. I thought that was extremely rude.
Do yourself a favor and book directly with the rental company you're going with. It will save you a lot of money and headaches.
