Used rentalcars.com on my vacation to the UK. They were great and went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer Will use them again
We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..
Terrible Service Hidden Charges & Requirements
Booked a car for the following day and they came up the cheapest. I booked and downloaded the app. All seemed good so far. Then somehow i was charged for insurance which was an additional £99. Then when i was getting my documents ready to take i noticed it stated that i MUST have a credit card. I've never had one i called and explained this and was told i can't have the car. It never stated this any where that a credit card was required and when i made the booking i was told that it was in the small print. Oh great.
So when i cancelled and now without a car as the booking was made within 3 days of collection i was charged £15 what a joke.
They also wanted to take a holding deposit of £1250 for an economy car which i wasn't advised of. This company is appalling. I now have to wait 3-5 days to get my money refunded minus £15. Never again would i use this company.

Once they have taken your money forget about getting any kind of a response from them.
5 x emails on a query. Always the same response. They want your booking reference and email and other details then say they will respond when they get it. If you respond giving them the detail they respond agian on the same mail and ask for the detail again, and again, and again and they never resolve the issue
Tip for consumers:
No way to contact a human. Just endless emails. Everytime from some-one else asking the same question that is in the email trail.

Please save yourself some money and don't use them! I fell into the trap in Ibiza when my plane was delayed and the rental car place was closed so I couldn't pick up the car that night. When I went to pick it up the next day rentalcars.com had canclled my booking and not given me a refund - still chasing for the money now. Awful customer service and horrible company do not use!

They set me up with payless rental cars, a one star joke. Payless has shady business practices and way overcharged me. So I figured I could get help for the extra money I paid rentalcars.com by calling them. So I called and they said call payless. I said I did. They refused to help and did absolutely no work for their commission. A real ripoff

Robbery! Reservation was happily confirmed online with my bank card to then get to the agency (Goldcar) and after waiting one hour unpleasantly learn that my bank card does not *******@Rentalcar.com does not want to help or refund the money although no service was rendered for the money! Go directly to the agencies never *******@Rentalcars.com

After booking, the voucher highlighted all the new extra charges I hadn't paid for and must pay for on collection - all this after agreeing with their price. On complaining they said that these extra charges (16% surcharge on the total cost because it was a Premium Location - duh, Heathrow is where I booked it and a daily Vehicle Licensing Fee) were hidden in the supplier Hertz's terms and conditions. To find these you must choose 'Important Information' and then at the page of two pages there's a further tiny print 'Terms and Conditions'. So the price you see on Rentalcars.com is NOT what you will end up paying.
This is a con - you think you're getting a discounted price, but the hidden charges make up the difference. I would rather go direct to the suppliers and not support this sort of commercial behaviour.

They accept bookings without giving yout all the facts and then charge you for cancelling. The call team are rubbish and refuse to allow you to lodge a complaint. I will never use this company again and advise everyone to never use them.

I accepted their upgrade off to pay more from agreement price $237 to their offered price $388, but they changed the offer after they received my acceptance from price $388 to price $1550. What a conspiracy! If they can do this to their customer, what else do you expect? I would say: stay away! Stay away! Stay away!

I booked at the Las Vegas airport. I was only booking a car at the airport because we had gotten into a car accident on the way to the airport. I had to cancel my flight so I could go check up on my friend at a nearby hospital. I have documented proof of this. I could see there was something wrong on my order and immediately went to modify it online but it kept saying there was an error.
Then tried to cancel it by phone and the number I reached said the offices were closed. It sounded like it was the UK. Finally I found another number and the gentlemen said I couldn't cancel it even though I had just made the order 20 min earlier. He only took off the insurance but I was still charged $134. This is a terrible way to run a business. Do not use this service!

When you see the booking options for a car it states free cancellation within 48hrs of pick up
When you cancel within this time they charge you a cancellation fee and then say its it rental company who is charging you this not them.(£37)
Their site is misleading

Attention customers,
Had to cancel my Booking with carrentals.com at the location they suggested me to pick up the car.
The lady at the front desk said that cancellation its been processed and the money will be returned on my account.
Called local company also carrentals.com and they suggest to submit online claim.
Submitted an online claim and got an email from carrentals.com that cancellation its been processed and approved but the cancellation fee was the exact amount of money they took as down payment from me.
Called local company and they said that no money has never been taken from them.
Very Dissapointed from the carrentals.com
Booking reference no; *******

I had booked a car for three days (paid 110 euros), at caldera (caldera.com.gr) agent in Athens, Greece. After two hours waiting in the queue because the owner didn't have the cars on site (he was bringing the cars himself from all over around Athens), we were informed that they couldn't give as the car because they needed a credit card to hold 900 euros for guarantee. We offered to pay cash instead but they rejected!
I emailed rentalcars and they responded that they wouldn't cancel the order, since I had to notify them 3 days before the pickup date! What's the point? If I knew I wouldn't get the car I wouldn't have booked it at the first place.
Finally rentalcars paid the owner with my money, I got no car, and no refund!

Worst car rental company I have ever dealt with.
Paid upfront in full when I was going.to pick up the car the wanted me to pay more than twice more in "additional insurance' and. Refused me to get.the car I paid for in advance.
Tried to call the number.to the on booking conformination. Nobody ever answered.
I recommend to stay away from them and use a more reputable and honest company.
I might in fact sue them once back in the US

We booked AND paid the car for 4 days in Florence. By pick up they asked me for a credit card. I don't have one, so we wanted to switch the reservation to My girlfriends name, she has a credit card. They couldn't switch the name and all the money was gone, and NO car. Completely Robbery! Don't use Rentalcars

I rented a car at Rome airport via Rentalcars.com in September. The car type ordered was Nissan Juke or similar, and the price was €400 for two weeks, not including the full insurance cover, to be purchased on Rentalcover.com. The car hire company providing the car would be OKMOBILITY.
At the rental desk the representative told me that they will give me a car which, in his words, cannot carry three people with air conditioning on.
Despite my insistence to get the car I ordered, I was told that if I wanted a car which could carry three people with air conditioning on, I needed to take an upgrade.
There was quite a crowd of renters at all rental companies' desks around and a line of people behind me, and I was in a hurry, so I couldn't change my rental to another company or start looking for Rentalcars.com support phone number, so I took an upgrade. This cost me another €385.
After the rental was over, I asked Rentalcars.com for a refund, but my request was dismissed, because I didn't contact their representative in real time.

Very bad customer service and they are thieves, i rented a car from them, i took a smaller car than i was booking. I tied to call them, however, their reply was that they can not do anything until my booking is completer. I suffered with the small car all my trip and after that they did nothing.

Manage bookings function doesn't work. Didn't use the rental. Couldn't cancel. Full credit card charge. Company told me what information was needed for a refund knowing none would be given. I recommend NOT using this site.

We booked and paid in advance through Rental Car for a one week rental with Hertz at the Montreal airport yesterday. When we arrived -after a long trip- at the rental agency, it was totally chaotic at the Hertz/Thrifty desk with a waiting line of at least one hour to meet the person at the desk and then another two hours to wait for an available car. We waited in the line and after an hour, we decided that we couldn't wait any longer in this suffocating environment with our cat with us in his carrier, we booked with another agency. When we arrived at the hotel, we contacted Rental Car through their chat to cancel our booking which was not fulfilled in a professional manner and acceptable time. The representative of Rental Car kept repeating that because we were 30 minutes delayed (25 minutes delayed yesterday because of the UK air traffic control disruption) and we didn't called to prevent the rental agency (nobody answered the phone) we did not respect our part of the contract, even though with the huge crowd waiting at the desk it was impossible for anybody to be at the desk on the specified time, It's totally crazy. We were so far regular clients with Rental Car, never again with this very bad experience.

Paid almost $700CAN up front for 16 day medium car from Hertz in Glasgow. Presented with strongly recommended estimate for 1,031 GBP in insurance (for 16 days). Not knowing exactly what my coverage was through the credit card, and with two tired kids in tow after transatlantic, I declined, and took a substitute car (2 hr wait), returning it in 24 hrs and cancelled the remainder of the rental period. "Customer service" said they couldn't process a claim for a refund until after the rental period had expired. Their website also locks any ability to cancel online until rental period over. Back in Canada, I did claim a refund and was told, not possible, Hertz wouldn't give them the money back. Lots of hassle, multiple emails and phone calls. No help whatsoever. Finally got a full refund from the credit card company (no questions asked). Will never use again (nor Hertz) and recommend you don't either.

Typical bait and switch company. If you don't know now you know, no car rental company in America ask you for a declaration of insurance protection! But these guys will, trying to upsell you to b u y their insurance. My wife and I left and went to Dollar Rent A Car and even without booking first as we did in this case, we were taking care of expediently and efficiently and we're not asked for a declaration of insurance! We even went to Thrifty's Rent-A-Car and they did not ask for a declaration of insurance. But wound up renting from Dollar because Thrifty did not have any cars left. Do not trust these guys, and if you go here, it'll be at your own risk! Although, they will bring you in with low prices, they will bump you up at this dump by trying to sell you insurance at the same time regardless to if you have your own!

I am one of the many conned/misled customers of rentalcars.com as well. I have rented a car through their website with "Budget" - on arrival at the desk - I have been told that I need a "International Driving Permit" since my driving licence is "Turkish" driving licence. During the booking process - on the website I have clearly stated that I live in Turkey and my driving licence is Turkish. The booking went through and I had a confirmation mail saying - you are all booked and to pick up the car - you will need 1.Driving licence 2. Passport or ID card 3.credit card 4.voucher... No where in the confirmation it says - you will need to provide "IDP". Apparently its in the terms and conditions which goes on and on... I can't get refund because I didn't provide the necessary paper work which I have no knowledge of. So I have to cancel my booking for the misleading website informalities and as well as getting stuck - I have to pay for the car rental I can't even have. I have rented so many cars before from so many different providers and no one ever asked me this document before - including "Budget/ Avis". And with a very poor customer service - the only response I get from rental cars is - "you agreed with our terms & conditions" so get on with it. Embarrassing and shameful business with matching customer service.

Booked a car through this broker for Palma airport. The rental company in Majorca were Drivalia. Stay away from them too. Apart from all else they are located 3K from the airport. Having paid via website we were charged a premium for arriving after 23.00 & sold under duress insurance. For a scuffy dented and scratched car with a key that only worked manually. Drivalia are one of those companies who seem to pride themselves in smug arrogance when it comes to customer service. I got a cheaper quote from Hertz at the airport on the actual day. Steer well clear.

I booked a car rental in Los Cabos Mexico with my Capital One world elite credit card. When I went to pick up my car the attendant wanted to charge me more for additional insurance before I could take the car. I showed them proof that my credit card covered me for the additional insurance. They said it wasn't good enough even though the papers I showed them had everything needed that was listed in the terms and conditions. After a lengthy argument I ended up not getting the car because they were trying to take advantage of me. I was still charged 100% for the car. I tried to dispute it with my credit card, but they couldn't help me. NEVER USE RentalCars.com, you will regret it!

I wish I read all these reviews before I rented from RentalCars.com. All reported negative information is regrettably true.
When we show up with their voucher, the prepaid amount has not been honored by Hertz and we have to pay the full price on the top of prepaid amount. For 7 months now, we are trying to get our money back from our credit card. The credit card has returned the money few time and each time those scammers from RentalCar.com tell something incomprehensible and the credit card reinstate the charge. They are in UK which I considered as a civilized country. How they manage to exist cheating left and right?
Avoid them like a plague.
