Used rentalcars.com on my vacation to the UK. They were great and went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer Will use them again
We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..
Online car rental broker Rentalcars.com, a British company, quotes the lowest prices online because they are not upfront about the additional fees you'll have to pay on the back end. The "Total Price" quoted online, the "Total Price" listed on your booking confirmation, and the "Total Price" receipt that they email you are all the same amount, but that price is nonsense. It's absolutely not the "Total Price" you'll end up paying and there's not a word about additional charges, which would at least give you a heads-up. In my case the "Total Price" quoted online and emailed to me twice by Rentalcars.com for a car from EuropCar Heathrow London was $159.78. The actual final cost was $362.47, which is an ADDITIONAL 144%!
Today, the extremely rude Rentalcars.com "customer service" rep, who constantly cut me off in the middle of my sentences, finally admitted that the "Total Price" listed in those three places is the "total price payable to rentalcars.com, and doesn't include additional charges payable directly to the rental car company", and that I should have taken the opportunity to read more (the fine print) by clicking on 'Manage My Booking'. Due to strong US laws, Americans generally trust that when a seller tells you this is the "Total Price", that means what it says. By not revealing the dirty secret in the actual documents they send you they are, by US Consumer laws at least, dishonest and they could be prosecuted for such. Unfortunately for Americans, they're untouchable in the UK courts unless you want to spend a lot of money.

I RENTED A CAR FROM RENTALCAR.COM IN THE US IN USD$ AND THEY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD IN TRY (DIFFERENT CURRENCY AND DIFFERENT AMOUNT). IT TOOK ME ABOUT 2 HOURS TO CANCEL THE RESERVATION. THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS. DO NOT TRUST THEM

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM
I paid fully for a car, and when I got to my destination, there was no car. I made a call immediately to rentalcars.com to inform them and was assured the procedure for refund is simple. They will contact the rental company to confirm no car was taken, then a refund will be given to me. 7 days that was what I was given. When I got no answer in 7 days, then they said 21 days. Apparently the rental company did not reply their request for confirmation that a car was not taken and it has been 2 months now.
After chasing up with many emails and live chats, I got an email from a person called Natasha who gave me a long story about how she hasn't got a reply and she made a call to the rental company and whoever picked up the call said there was another contract under my name or whatever rubbish and she thinks that i picked up the car... it was all such bull and at the end of the day it seems like they are not going to give me my refund
I lost $600 for a car I didn't get and a lot of hours talking to a bunch of rentalcars.com staff who work for a company that is not interested in giving me my refund.
Don't rent from them. Go directly to the car rental company. That will save you the risk of these nonsense and losing money like I did.

I have just booked a car rental for 3 days in Thailand (Surat Thani). The website rentalcars.com sent me an email for the reservation and there's a button to click "manage your booking". After I click on, there is a blank page that you cannot do anything about it!. I went back to the website rentalcars.com and click for reservation; it works fine! THAT MEANS YOU CANNOT CANCEL YOUR BOOKING AT ALL. IF YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO READ THIS BEFORE YOUR HAVE DONE YOUR BOOKING, IT'S A BLESS.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. It is impossible to get a refund on a service that is THEIR mistake. They will make you jump through hoops to submit information and waste more of your valuable tie. NEVER will I recommend or use this company [also Bookings.com]. Be aware - if you have an issue they WILL NOT BE ON YOUR SIDE.

They offered rental for a location that was closed. Did not offer another rental and told me to wait for the "rental period" to expire to request a refund. Dishonest and worthless company.
Tip for consumers:
These people, if you can call them that, simply do not care. Their customer service and management are should be serving fast food.

I made a reservation with Rentalcars.com, at Athens airport, car provider company was Gold Car, (I made my booking at the very last minute prior to my departure). Once I arrived at the terminal there were neither was an office nor reps. I asked the information desk how can I get them they said they had to give a name and contact number, where I didn't have it. I have found the Gold Cars number called 3 times waiting on the line for 20 minutes in total. So I tried to call Rentalcars number, the number on the voucher didn't work. On my IphoneX I have tried to use live chat, but it didn't work as well. Lastly, I sent them an email, where they sent the voucher, I replied that email, it doesn't says no-reply this email, Rentalcars.com. The email has not returned back which meant it went through to the right place. I was expecting them to call me but nothing has happened. I was stressed out 30 minutes at the airport with no support. I hired another car and tried to catch my meeting.
Today I used their live chat on the computer, the rep hangs up the chat screen. I asked for a customer support number they just wrote *******609 we supposed to know where this company has been based, and know the country code, even I asked for it, they didn't provide.
Now they are saying that they cannot refund my money. I am stressed out, with no support, very BAD BAD experience. BEWARE from this company. If you come across a problem you will be alone, no support! Never ever again I am not going to use it.

The worst ever experience. I rented cars many times and never ever had such problems!
They hide so many additional extra costs failing to respect pricing transparency law'.
You book the car through their website and pay online thinking you have paid everything and that you will have just to collect the car. LIES!
When you arrive at the pick up location the car company starts to tell you that there are additional costs because what you paid through Rentalcars doesn't cover everything for them.
We had two separate problems on two separate bookings (different locations) made for the same holiday. We were basically forced to do another booking directly with the car rental company because our flight was delayed and despite informing Rentalcars in advance they couldn't help in any ways. We asked for a refund on our return and they responded it is not their fault.
On second occasion, the car rental company charged us for additional insurance cover when we had already paid for all inclusive' insurance online. Again Rentalcars customer service failed to help us and we ended up paying much more than expected.
AVOID AVOID AVOID! Book directly with the car rental company, may be a little more expensive at first but then you are sure that you won't have any surprises when collecting the car.

One agent of Rentalcars canceled our reservation by phone with us, as we needed to do a new one due to some wrong information. They told us the money would get paid back to us immediately, as we needed to pay again for the new reservation. But we never got the payment of the first reservation back! On top of it WE HAVE BEEN CLAIMING SINCE AUGUST THE REIMBURSEMENT and their argument is that since then they are incapable of verifying with the local supplier office that that car from the first booking wasn't picked up. Is totally ridiculous and a total scam!
Don't spend your money on these service! It's a pain!

Dishonest, fraudulent and borderline scam agency.
Booked a car on their website, paid the rental with a card from a bank with which they had a PARTNERSHIP in place.
Get to the rental pick up site, they said they don't accept this card to make the deposit and finalize the pick up processe. It turns out the card is not accepted by the rental companies, although they don't tell you that at any time during the booking process. They just want your money on their side.
After that, you just call their customer service and they tell you that, deep on their T&Cs you'd have to bring another card to finalize the pick up and that EVEN if you'd called them at the counter like they say, you could only get refunded your booking value - 3 days rental cost. Meaning, I booked for 2 day rental, so no refund whatsoever. They literally steal you 3 days rental worth by a service they mislead you to purchase incorrectly and that assumes you can even qualify for a refund by their T&Cs.
Customer service attitude is just like "tough luck, no money back".
On top of that, I ended up having to rent at last minute with another agency by myself and pay 3x market rate due to such short notice on a Friday evening.
This company is an outright fraud looking to lure potential clients to a one off purchase, knowingly perfectly well that based on the service they provide it will be the last time you'd book with them.
Save yourself the trouble and cost later, and pay a few extra euros/dollars and rent with another agency or rental directly.
Tip for consumers:
The best tip is to just avoid it completely. If you don't want to have your money stolen just book with another agency or rental.

I paid on the website with my debit card for renting a car in Italy from July 14 to July 16,2022. I Received from rental voucher number *******. With this voucher, I went to the Avis car rental office in Rome. This rental point refused to accept my debit card. But I used this card to pay for rent in Rentalcar, and there was enough money on this card. Avis also refused to return my money, because they did not receive money from me, but my booking received it. They advised me to go there. But all my attempts to somehow contact rentalcars were unsuccessful. There was no response to the phone, to the letter by mail, or to my review. So my money was simply appropriated by Rentalcar, I didn't get a car, my vacation was disrupted. Perhaps this is their business strategy. Collect money from customers without providing services. Do not contact this company. Your money can just be taken away. There is no guarantee that you will get a car. And you will never contact any employee from this company to express at least some complaints.
Sincerely, Art
P.S. By the way. Rentalcar does not provide purchase receipts. To confirm the purchase, you can only download a document called Proof of purchase on their website with scant information

First of all: This is not a rental company but a broker. Just book directly with a rental company and save yourself a major headache.
I had rented a car and paid with my Visa card. When I arrived at the rental desk, my card could not be read and so I was not given a rental car! I was assured by the employee that I would get my money back - he even signed another form for this. I just walked to another rental desk (luckily there are several at the airport) and the credit card magically worked just fine. Strange. So it wasn't my fault I guess.
Back home I tried to contact Rentalcars.com. This is a lengthy and frustrating process: difficult or unreachable by telephone and you will only receive a response via the site after a month of waiting.
Long story short: I didn't stick to their cancellation policy and so they withhold 3 days of rent. I find it unacceptable that charges have been made when the credit card reader of a rental company they have appointed is not functioning properly.
In the normal world you don't have to pay for something that is broken but Rentalcars hides behind their fine print and does not do what is right.
I see a lot of similar experiences on various review sites... if only I had read them first!
Do you want to book here? DO NOT DO IT!
Tip for consumers:
Do not do it. Just book directly at a rental car place.

When I entered the porta-cabin office of InterRent, who were booked via RentalCars.com, there were seven people in there, all experiencing issues simultaneously. One lady was shouting because she was being refused a car due to not being a UK national and would have to re-book for £700, another was crying because the damage that InterRent had taken pictures of before their hire had 'disappeared' and were being denied by the company (also happened to another man who arrived later), a man returned to report his car had broken down before he'd left the car park, and several people were scrolling through their e-mails desperately trying to find where in the T&Cs they had messed up to be refused a car as was happening to the majority (including us).
Thankfully we were in a position to leave and pursue the company later, and upon walking into the main car rental office we were greeted with polite laughter from Avis and Enterprise and the words "Let me guess, they told you you could only have the car if you paid them £64?" - apparently an hourly occurrence and well-known scam.
When I phoned rentralcars.com for assistance on site, I was shouted at and belittled by the member of staff before he advised he could only speak to the person with the name on the booking, my father. When I offered to hand the phone to my father, the member of staff hung up. After much pursuing after the trip, I was eventually refunded the full amount (yet to be received, but we live in hope).

Booked a car pick up and drop off back in BNE airport via RentalCars, the cost it shows on the website is $92 with no protection and $96 with full protection. So assume $96 is the total cost! Until the payment page, it still shows $96 is the total payment, but it ended up with $92 plus $96! When picking up the call at the counter, they still ask do you need to purchase a cover for the car. BE AWARE AND NOT AGAIN!

We had the worst experience with Rentalcars that there could be. From the moment something happens that you are unable to pick up your car with a valid reason, you will never see any money back.
We had some problems in the US with our European Cards. The company's don't take our debit cards, and there was a problem with our VISA card that we needed to contact the bank. Because of those combined reasons, we weren't able to pick up the car we reserved as the renting company needs a working card.
There is a huge time difference between the US and Europe, so we could only contact our banks in Europe late at night to fix the problems with the cards.
We contacted rentalcars about our situation, but they just refused to give anything back our give a solution that works claiming we were a day to late. No matter what you say to them, they will just hit you with contracts and little rules that are hidden in their policies.
So my advice is only use rentalcars as a tool to find the most affordable company to rent from and don't use them to book the cars, go to the companies themselves as they do help to give you a good solution for your problems.
They might have gotten the money for one car, but this company definitely lost a consumer in the long run!

Before I made my reservation for a car I called them asking about their cancelation policy. THEY TOLD ME, NO CHARGE WILL BE MADE IN CASE OF CANCELATION (Nothing about a minimum period of time or anything). I found it odd but I went through as that is what they told me.
The job which I need the car for was cancelled so I tried to proceed with the cancellation and the cancellation fee was the same amount of the reservation price.
Call them back... no answer... and after waiting 15 minutes in other to get in hold with someone through their Chat, the lovely ALICIA told me that the number I called (the one on the reservation page) don't belong to them so I have to go through and pay the full amount of the reservation when I want to cancel it.
JUST A JOKE! Won't even consider use their service in there future. Will get a bus or train next time.

Here is my story about RentalCars.com and ruined vacation.
We booked a car with automatic transmission a month in advance.
An automatic transmission is really, really important for us.
The booking was confirmed and money was taken.
We got a voucher with the booking.
Now, six days before the start of the rent they sending new booking info and the transmission is manual now.
I called RentalCars.com, they confirm that there was an error on their side, but they can not (or doesn't want) to do anything.
They can not find a new car with automatic transmission in the region.
And giving that only six days left I also can not find any alternative even for a double price.
THANK you RentalCars.com, for a perfect vacations!
I would advise anybody against using RentalCars.com services, yes everybody makes a mistake, but good company can fix their mistake for the customers satisfaction and apparently RentalCars.com can not do it.
So, my claim against RentalCars.com is not about their mix-up with transmission, I'm angry because they left me alone with this, and now their mix up is my problem.
Very, very nice:(
Cheers,
Alex Kovalev
