We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..

On 6/13/2023 I flew into CLT. Went to Budget to get my car. They were very busy, and had to wait for a dozen or so people ahead of me. The were short of serviced cars and just started pulling cars from the return line. The car I received was dirty, with a bug splattered windshield. It was also on empty. I went ahead anyway an excepted the car. When driving off the lot I showed the check-out gal that the gas gauge was on empty. She stamped my paperwork and told me to show it to the check-in person upon return. Upon return I showed my paperwork to the check-in person, she acknowledged that she made the corrections. Within minutes, I received an email receipt that included $127 for returning the car on empty. I then walked back to the check-in gal, showed her the receipt and she said she didn't know how to adjust it. She suggested I go to the rental counter to get it fixed. The rental counter person verified everything and said she made the fuel adjustment. Never happened! Now I'm dealing with customer service via the telephone and emails. I'm sure I'll get my refund eventually but it's a shame what Budget and their employees put you through. I thing I'll use Hertz in the future.

We made a car reservation for Milan. They charged our card. But no booking confirmation ever came to my email and YES for goodness sake, we checked spam! I called. The person on the phone could do nothing without a booking number which I did not have because I never had a confirmation. She asked to send me a form to fill in. She tried four different emails we own. The form never came through. I tried to escalate to a manager. She did not transfer me. She gave me an email. I sent all the details about the booking - dates, names, places, credit card last four digits. We get an email from "Leslie" assuring us she can help and asking for the information I just had already sent, plus a scanned PDF of the charge. I replied with all the information again and a scan of the charge. Very soon I get an email from "Nicole" asking for the exact same information and for me to send a scan of the charge. I reply AGAIN with the same information and a scan of the charge. Very soon I get an email from "Justin" suggesting I check my spam folders. It is very clear that Leslie, Nicole and Justin are all bots and that there is no human looking into this problem. We just contacted AMEX and disputed the charge. I will never use this outfit for booking a car.

These people who work for this company are theifs. They refused to pay back my money.

Beware of this bunch of big sons of a $#*!!
Once you have made the payment for the car and you go to pick it up in the car office (In my case, FRANKFURT AIRPORT) they will make you to purchase an insurance or will try to make you pay extra money without any explanation. BE VERY AWARE OF THOSE MOTHER$#*!ERS, they are professional robbers.
Never again!

I rented a car back in April with this company, I prepaid for a car for the weekend, they supposedly contracted it through Thrifty rental, when I arrived at the airport the person at the front counter and her manager could not located the reservation even I had a print out and all the numbers with it, when tried to call them, all they give is an international number which I was unable to call to from my cell phone. After spending about 2hrs the manager at Thrifty and myself gave up looking and had to rent a car on the spot for double the cost. Next day I contacted Rentalcars.com to try to get a refund and they said that it was hard to get a refund... they played around and said they would look into it... I have sent several emails and NO answer has been received, when I finally got someone on the phone, they asked for proof of the rental agreement I had to re-do... then again after sending all paperwork, copies via email, weeks have gone by and no answer received. This company is the absolute WORSE!. I am disputing the charges with the credit card company and they can deal with this "company". I give them one star and that's only because is the least required to leave a review. They deserve none!

Do not rent from this company; they will nickel and dime you and charge you for things entirely out of your control. How am I supposed to contact a rental agency to let them know I'm running late while I'm in the middle of the air on an international flight that was delayed? And how can they NOT tell that I will be late when they HAVE my flight information? I was charged a "cancellation fee" because I showed up 12 hours late to pick up a car I had ALREADY PAID FOR, and the company HAD MY FLIGHT INFO TO KNOW I WOULD BE LATE. The company rented the car I had paid for to someone else and offered no recourse or refund, or even a partial refund. Rentalcars.com did the same and simply charged me for the full rental despite my having to go to another company to pay for a car. The company is pure trash, do NOT rent from them.

Tried to rent a van for a trip to PEI this summer. I got a really good deal thru the website. When I pressed confirm to book the van, the site indicated the van was no longer available. I left it as is and when shopping on another site. In the meantime, there system booked a car (not a van) for a different weekend and billed me of 600$ for this car rental, which was ridiculous. When I finally got my credit card statement in the mail - it showed an amount for the car rental (that I never booked). I tried to get a hold of someone at the company - it took a couple of days for someone to get back to me. I had about 6 different people reach out. They would not reimburse me for their booking that the system was so kind in booking. Still waiting for my money back - they have considered this matter closed. I am out over 600$. Still fighting to get this back - PLEASE DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM - HORRIBLE SYSTEM - HORRIBLE SERVICE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They are thieves.

Don't walk, but run from Rentalcars.com. My Flight was delayed in route (which they had the flight information). When I landed and called the rental car company and Rentalcars.com, neither answered despite Rentalcars.com claiming they have 24/7 customer service. The car rental company had closed 15 minutes before I landed, so they both left me stranded at the airport with no car. On top of that, I had to pay a lot more to get a one day rental from a differential rental car company (who by the way would never leave a customer stranded who landed 15 minutes late). To add insult to injury, Rentalcars.com is trying to collect rental charges for a car that was never provided, despite the car rental company telling me directly it does not want paid for the rental because it never provided the service. Rentalcars.com terms are horrible and so is their customer service. Do not book anything with them, let alone any rental that is close to the closing time of rental car company. If you see a cheap rate from them, be very suspect they are betting you won't get to car rental company on time and they will pocket up to three days of rental from you even though the rental car company is charging $0.

It gets 1 Star as I can not put 0.

I arrived at the car rental office and they refused to hire the car to me.

I had paid the entire rental upfront in good faith and when I rang and complained about the situation the agent told me that I will have to pay for 3 days of the rental as a penalty for cancelling the booking which I did not wish to do. I am now being told that they will not repay any money even though they cancelled the booking not me!

KEEP WELL AWAY FROM THIS SITE!

I booked a rental car through Rentalcars.com for 3 weeks in Italy. I had to prepay 30 days in advance for the whole amount. Luckily I had an issue with the Credit card I had given them for the deposit so they when I got on line to prepay I noticed a post on Tripadvisor that they where not a good rental car company. So I cancelled my reservation... and my $80 depsoit turned into an $80 Cancellation fe EVEN THOUGH it says VERY clearly on the website FREE CANCELLATION.
My husband is a lawyer and wants to file a class action suit against Rentalcars.com... looks like lots of people have been scammed!

Watch out as the company tries only to rip you off. They have a no refund policy and will not return the money that they have charged, even if you write to them or try contacting them.

Thieves who refused to sort out a problem and put the phone down on me, left me stranded and refused a refund. Went to thrifty who told me that this is common and they hear it all the time. HIRE FROM THRIFTY, YOU WILL GET YOUR CAR AND NO BULLS@@T

I rented a car for a month and then returned it after one day because I found a car several classes higher for 500 dollars less! But what I didn't know is, they won't return ONE penny of my month long rental. SO I ended up renting a car from them for ONE DAY for 1350 USD!

They claim their policy is online and clear but I couldn't find it. They sent it to me. If you return your car before the deadline you give them they don't return ANY MONEY. HORRIBLE COMPANY! They over charge then KEEP your money. SCAM. I hope they go broke!

When I booked the car online I specifically chose this firm as the advertised product stated I could use a debit or credit card at handover, they took my fees online by debit card. The follow up email also confirmed I could use debit card for the deposit when i collected the car. On arrival at the car hire centre I was told I could not use debit card for this car/cover, and I left without my car, this caused me lots of problems. I then attempted to get a refund from rentalcars.com. Firstly I emailed Rental cars to the address they had emailed me from, i received a reply saying they don't accept email, I tried to use the "Manage Booking" link in their email but it did not work and went to a 404 redirect page, I tried calling and was disconnected. I finally spoke to someone on chat who offered another email address but it turned out to be a weblink that did not help. Back onto chat again and I finally got an email address. I emailed the address with a screen shot of the debit card offer. Jan replied agreeing it said debit card and suggested I make a claim on their site but with no link as to where. The saga continues. I wish i had read the reviews on here first

Stay away from this people, total rip off, will never use again in my life!
Booked 4 x days car hire from Palermo Airport. We landed approx 21:00 and after finding out our supplier (Rhodium?) was actually Gold Car we was told they cannot accept Amex for the deposit. My wife offered to pay the deposit with a Visa Card but we were told that although Gold Car do not have an issue doing that, we need to call RentalCars in order to clear it with them. We called and after approx 10-15 minutes of not getting anywhere I asked to speak to a manager. I was put through to Jose(?) and he bluntly advised that he will not add my wife on the policy as it was now past the collection time by 10-15 minutes. He said he can only cancel the existing booking and after we wait another 2 hours he can "try" find us another car. By then it was already approx 22:00 so we would've had to wait another 2 hours in the airport and than hope José will sort another car out which meant we had a pretty good chance of spending the whole night in the Airport. I obviously declined his offer and had to pay 3 times the initial cost to hire another car. Deleted the app straight away and decided to NEVER USE THEM AGAIN! Lesson learned...

This company is shambolic! Terrible customer service. One agent on the phone even hung up the phone on me when I asked them if I could speak to someone else.

I made a booking with them for Europcar and it said in the details that the pick-up deposit must only be made with a credit card and nothing else. I called them to ask about it and they confirmed over the phone that was the case. I had to change my booking to a more expensive rental that would accept debit cards.
When picking up the car the Europcar the office manager told me that they always accept debit cards and that Rentalcars were wrong.

After a truly painful experience trying to get the difference refunded as it was their mistake they eventually outright refused saying it was my fault.

So it was my fault that I didn't check the incorrect information when making my booking?!

Trying to submit a complaint about a rental is almost impossible, I think they just hope you'll give up.

You'll have to pay extra for the privilege of using them as 3rd party and if you have a problem they'll conveniently disappear.

Just go straight to the rental company

Hello, I booked a car online nearly 2 months before, so I went to get the car at Pisa airport couldn't get a worst treatment than what i got, first of all the not polite recepcionist told me my booking was to be cancelled in 1 hour because I haven't confirmed (what?! I booked 2 months in advance with my credit card details and from there NEVER received any communication of them asking me to confirm the booking) That happened on 9th April around 11am. So dont ruin your holidays with them.

I booked a car with rentalcars.com in Mexico and only had a debit card but the rental company required a credit card. We then went on to try and change the primary driver on our booking to someone who had brought their credit card. The rental company mas by mex(also stay away from them) was not that helpful but were willing to accept a debit card if we paid an extra US$1000. Rentalcars.com then told us that they could not change the booking and would only refund me if i made another booking on their site. I had 8 people in my party and we needed a van. Rentalcars.com did not have a van available. I then explained this to the them and the representative told me to cancel the booking and I would get my refund. I then canceled the booking and never got my refund. When I tried to enquire about my refund, they back tracked and said they would not refund me anymore. I lost almost $800 for a car I didn't even end up getting. This was the worst rental car experience I have ever had and will not be working with this website again.

On 04/06/16 in Los Angeles, California, I got online to book a 3-day car rental in Iceland from July 7 to July 9,2016. I was confused by the way the date format used in the website and entered April 7 to April 9,2016. Less than 2 days later when I noticed some discrepancy in the reservation confirmation, I contacted the customer service of Rentalcars.com to make correction. At the time, I also discovered the mistake as to the dates of the rental. The customer service person understood the obvious mistake because when I made the reservation, it was less than 10 hours before the pick up time which is just a mission impossible. The customer service person promised me that he could help me make reservation for the correct dates and cause the refund of the money that had been charged to my credit card. However, he said that he had to get the supplier, i. E., Green Motion in Reykjavik, Iceland, to confirm that the car was not picked up. After that day, i. E., April 8,2016, I called Rentalcars.com several more times to inquire about this and was repeatedly promised that he/she would send email to Green Motion to ask Green Motion to confirm the car was not picked up and immediately refund the money to me. At one point of time, the person over Rentalcars.com even sent me an email to confirm that. However, after I complained to the credit car company, Rentalcars.com submitted to my credit card company Rentalcars.com's online record showing the rental was "complete" and refused to let the credit card charge back the charge. I can only say that Rentalcars.com people are shameless and greedy.

I made a booking via rentalcars.com (ref: *******), paid £411.75 (including insurance cover) and was to pick the car up from Sixt car hire on Deltic Avenue Milton Keynes on 27/12/21. Unfortunately Sixt was having an IT issue and couldn't complete my rental, but they assured me they will let rentalcars.com know the cancellation wasn't my fault. I also called rentalcars.com to inform them that same day, and they put me on hold while they confirmed my explanation with Sixt. The assured me that Sixt confirmed my story, so my request for refund will be processed. Not receiving any refund after day 4, I called and this time they changed the story, insisting they can only refund my insurance cover fee of £64.82. I was furious and said they cannot keep my money. They then sent me an email confirming they will keep £346.93 as cancellation fee. I called and sent several emails, even obtained an email from Sixt confirming the cancellation wasn't my fault, which I forwarded to them. Almost a month since I advised them Sixt wasn't able to process my rental or give me any car, rentalcars.com refuses to pay me back the £346.93 balance. I will now be taking the matter to the county court, with the conviction the court will order the refund of my money, plus costs. Rentalcars.com cannot be trusted. They have zero customer service and instead are waiting for any opportunity to rip-off their customers. They don't deserve a rating of 1.

We rented a car in Iceland for our son and his 2 friends. We paid $96 for the ins coverage and believed we paid for 2 extra drivers fora total of $770 for 8 days online to book the reservation. When they picked the car up they asked for a credit card and one of the friends gave their card….then was told to sign a form in the Icelandic language.
They had a great trip and loved Iceland.when they returned the car a change of $348.99 went on the friend's card. When they got home I called to say we already paid for the insurance and extra drivers. They said the extra drivers were not covered and since my son didn't use his credit card they charged $261 for insurance…we ALREADY had full insurance coverage for $96! They WILL not reimburse use the $261 but said they would refund the $96 because the form was signed on site! We will see if the refund comes through.
The rental agreement listed the fact that we already had insurance and it was deceptive to have them sign a form in a foreign language for insurance we already had! In total we paid $1019.99 because of their deceptive practices….others rates were in the $650-$750 range but this rental was a slightly larger sedan. BUYER BEWARE!

I have booked a car from Avis Thailand through their portal (rentalcars.com). I was given a below standard car for the duration of my rental. The undercarriage was totally destroyed and had been fixed with cable ties (car was in an accident previously and they had not informed me at pick up). Of course it broke down again while I was driving half way through my trip. Ended up not being able to use the car for 3 days, until I find a way to fix it myself, being in the middle of the Thailand countryside, 1h drive from the nearest town with a garage. I have informed Rentalcars.com of the incident, they did not seem to concerned about it and told me to open a claim after I return the car. I opened a claim on their website after returning the car, asking for compensation, they closed it after 4 hours, "thanking me for the feedbacks and for helping them improve their service". F... ng joke! I have opened back the claim, ever since no one replies to my messages, no one give a damn about the case. Their customer service is inexistant. If all goes OK during the rental, good for you. If not, just now they will not give a damn about you as soon as they take your money. Better think twice before renting a car through third-party agents like them. They absolutely do not care about customer service. Just there to take the money and cash in their commission with the rental companies. For the rest, you can just get lost...
Run away as far as you can from this company, presumably part of booking.com group...

Tip for consumers:
Book directly with the rental companies. Once rentalcars.com took your money and got their commission from the rental agencies, they don't give a damn about you. Customer service is 0 and they will make your life miserable and totally ignoring you. Avoid this website at all cost

A total rip off. Do not use them. I cancelled at the airport when I found out all the extra hidden charges, was cheaper to cancel and take the loss than pay anymore. DO NOT USE!
