We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..

I rented a car for a week through this company, when I came to pick up the car at Dollar, they told me that they don't have any cars and I have to demand the money back through the company I rented the car through. The next day I called this site and explained what happened and they told me that they would start working on my case and I would be informed about it within a week, they never once sent an email about my case, and a week later I called to see what was going on, the communication with them the people have zero points, no willingness to help, they hung up on me three times without any answer, and it wasn't until the fourth time that I got someone on the phone who told me that they would send me an email and that I had to wait 28 working days to get my money back, and the same after 30 days I didn't get a single email or a cent back, so I wrote to them again why I am not informed about my case and how long it will take for them to return my money, I didn't get a response from the customer service because they don't know, simple this site is a disaster! Do not pay in advance because they will try to rob you like me! And don't even rent a car through this site!

With my husband, we used Rentalcars.com to rent a car in Brazil, Florianopolis. We organised the booking through rentalcars.com with the actual rental company on sight being Innova.
We booked the car for a few days starting immediately on arrival in the Florianopolis airport late in the evening and we took it for granted that the representative of the service will wait for our flight to arrive as they specifically highlight that we have to provide them with the flight number. Otherwise they are not going to wait for us. Our flight was delayed and when we arrived, there wasn't anyone waiting for us. Nor there was any signs that they had been waiting.
We took a taxi and had to come back the next day just to hear that we were no-shows and if we want to get a refund, we have to contact the rentalcars.com, which we did. They kindly told us in an email that we should contact them again after the actual rental is over and we have the signed contract with the rental company, which we did. There was no reply for a week. When the reply came, it was a joke. Basically, they told us that we read the Terms and Conditions and according to them, it's our personal problem that we came a day late to pick up the car.
Really? C'mon, guys, how is it our problem that your partner company's representatives did not wait for our flight to arrive?
Very-very unprofessional. Not the type of service you would like to experience.
Definitely will never use again either rentalcars.com or their partners and will talk out my friends or acquaintances out of doing it.

I have just learned how sleazy this company is. They are unscrupulous and unethical in my opinion. I say so because: If you have to cancel a booking shortly after you have made it (9 hours), due to your trip being canceled (visa issue), You obviously have to cancel the pickup of the vehicle as you have committed to picking it up as per the booking. My booking was done at about 8pm the evening for a pickup the next day at 1pm at Johannesburg OR Tambo airport. Say an 18-hour window. My flight was canceled at about 2am the morning and I have responded on the website to cancel the booking. I had to; no other choice. Now the shock! rentalcars.com charge you 20% for canceling and they argue you have agreed to it? The rental company (Avis, Europcar, Thrifty's, etc) can't keep a vehicle ready for you and you don't pick it up. The rentalcars.com website only offers one option: cancel with an excessive fee of 20%. You don't know this before using rentalcars.com. So how do you cancel but don't agree to the outrageous 20%? They add a statement to the cancellation that you accept their fee. They don't offer any choice! Totally unscrupulous! Obviously, you don't accept it! But on the other side, you must cancel to prevent fees from rental company (Avis, Europcar, Hertz, etc) for not picking up? Rentalcars.com know it and abuse the situation to make easy money.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY

I read the reviews and decided to use this company to rent a larger vehicle. I needed to transport a service dog for the children's hospital I work for in South Florida. Our new service dog was in training in Georgia, and I thought a small SUV would be more comfortable for her on the 8-hour trip to her new home.

When I arrived at the airport to pick up my rental I was asked where I was going and when I said Georgia, I was told that I could not take the car out of state. OK, no problem. Please refund my money as you have to pre-pay, and I will use another rental agency.

Problem #1 – The contracted company at the airport has no means to give a refund and gave me 2 phone numbers to call
Problem #2 – Nobody that answers the phone can do anything to help. I was even told "this is a loss for you". They were rude and argumentative. Perhaps they have done this to other people so they have experience.

So, I was charged the moment I booked, did not receive the vehicle and then a refund was refused. Sound like a customer serviced focused company to you?

I finally got someone to respond to an email and was asked for additional information. That was 2 days ago and no response.

I recommend that you use a reputable company when you need to rent a car or risk getting taken for a ride!

They will not make an exception to change a reservation 1 day even for military orders and they were incredibly rude.

Tip for consumers:
They were rigidity and lack of accommodation for extenuating circumstances shows their true company values. They also wouldn’t even let me speak to a supervisor to discuss the issue. Then, they hung up on me and I was very respectful throughout the phone call.

Products used:
There were no exceptions whatsoever at all to their policy even with military orders. We were still asking to pay the full price just move the reservation one day.

I had made a paid car reservation online with rentalcar.com to pick up April 15 2022 at CWB airport in Brazil. Upon arriving I went to the local car rental (Movida) to pick up the car, but the agent did not allow me to have the car. They said that my application was denied. I had already paid for the reservation US$548.64.
I tried to contact the phone number rentalcar.com provided at the reservation documents, but it was a fake number, there was also no local number for me to contact rentalcar.com. The local office agent told me that since the contract was not made, my refund was going to be automatic. I had to get a tax and pay a lot of money to get to my final destination. After I was able to have internet service, which was the following day. I emailed rentalcar.com explaining the situation. Rentalcar.com's only answer was that I was not going to have no my money back. I try to explain that I was abroad with no correct phone number to contact anybody, but no one even considered anything.
Do not rent from Rentcar.com its all fake.

After googling online cheap car rental companies in Canberra/Sydney Australia... rentalcars.com came up. Do not use this company... based in the UK, 3rd party agents for car rentals companies in Australia. After reading the fine print., there is an automatic $80AUD cancellation fee. $3000 - $3300 deposit/excess holding bond even with car insurance included. And then I find out the car insurance policy covers them... rentalcars.com??? If I wanted to take out car insurance with the actual car rental company in Sydney thats another cost on top. I also emailed the car rental company in Sydney and asked them what their holding deposit was...$1000 only? Going back to www.rentalcars.com they insisted bond was $3000-$3300 was clients charge and correct. THEN when you think thats the final cost you get hit with overseas transaction fees?... Of course I cancelled my booking now I am chasing the rest of my refund, partial payment received and still waiting for the rest. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... ITS MORE TROUBLE THAN WHAT ITS WORTH... Most went wrong on this car hire from Munich airport, where we had to wait 90 minutes from we got to the Budget/Avis desk till we got the car.

- Fuel Up Front Option: I was explained that there was now downside for me to leave the car with a partly filled tank. I would just pay for what Budget/Avis filled up. I still was charged EUR 96,-, which was abt. 4 times what I expected.

- Additional Products: This was a roof rack, which turned out to be far too small for our purpose (and I had assured upfront that I needed something to take a lot of skies). So we had to skip the rack, and asked if they could skip that particular cost of 40 EUR. Oh yes, that could be possible, but had to be done by email request via Budget, after the hiring period. So we did, but no money back.

- Location surcharge: I have no idea on what this is, and why to pay it. It was something like 90 EUR. We actually got these money back after complaining.

Of course they did not have the car type that we ordered. We were therefore offered a smaller car, but to a higher price! Of course we did not accept that, and after some while got a large 9-seat van, where we had to put all the ski stuff inside and on top of the seats, unsecured.

- Price: Agreed price was 80EUR. Got a bill of 230EUR, but my card was actually charged 280EUR!
Got 90 EUR back, but still this is still fraud.

We booked with Ryanair/ rentalcars.com as broker and "Nollegiare Alghero" should give us the car, bad mistake to try to book a car there. They took the money weeks before and refused to give us the car. No hotline available on sundays. They try to sell you a double car insurance. We lost 884,26 Euro, 11 days, Ford Fiesta. "No show", they call it. First the VisaCard did not work (another car was easy to rent for us with the same Card but another company). Second reason not to give us the car: My man was in the formular as driver and on the Visa Card is my name. Third reason: we came 2 hours too late. 1 hour delay of the flight and 1 hour waiting in front of the office of "Nollegiare Alghero" in the sun 35 degrees C. So you see it is impossible to get a car, but easy to loose money with this kind of car business. I hope you read this and find a better car rental. We found "Nolauto Alghero". They have fair conditions and we rented a car without trouble. But we will never forget how unfriendly the staff of "Nollegiare Alghero" is. I hope that no longer other customers loose their money with this company! Take care!

DO NOT USE RENTALCARS.COM! I REPEAT DO NOT USE RENTALCARS.COM! Their customer service center is in the UK and they will keep your money and not refund your money if they do not provide the services of providing you with the rental car you booked. 2 years ago I booked a car on Rentalcars.com. The place I was supposed to pick up the rental car at I could not get in contact with them. Their instructions stated when you get to the airport call them and their shuttle will come pick you up at the airport. I called them many times and I was getting busy signals or a voicemail. I even waited at their shuttle bus terminal and their shuttle never showed. I had a friend that booked a car from rentalcars.com last year. He said their rental car facilities are sleazy looking and old cars. He said the rental car he had broke down on the side of the road and he couldn't get a hold of anyone. The old saying goes you get what you pay for that is why rentalcars.com rental fees are so cheap. I have even tried to get the charges disputed 3 times from my credit card company and rentalcars.com rejects it.

I booked a car through RentalCars.com for a vacation with my family. When I arrived at the rental car counter, my car was given away, which was annoying, but they had another car available. Then when I went to check out they doubled the price of the rental with "required" taxes which were over $40/day. I called the RentalCars.com support number and they were less than helpful continuing to tell me that because I was a bit late, they couldn't help.
The issue here is that the rental car company they were working with upcharged huge fraudulent fees and taxes. The thing is, I spent the time calling other rental car places on the same block and none of them had these required fees and those fees weren't on the RentalCars.com quote page or I would never have booked. When I wrote for support they again started with talking about the pickup time. This had NOTHING to do with car types or availability and 100% to do with the fact that it was cheaper for me to book with another car rental place down the street then just paying for the scam upcharge I was being asked to pay.
This site is useless, it's a scam, they partner with scammers and they don't protect the customer. DO NOT USE this company! Save yourself the time and money and use a company that actually does due diligence on their vendors.

I received an email from rentalcars.com this morning titled: Important information about your rental. Simply put they wanted to let me know the following: We're just writing to tell you that Thrifty at Christchurch Airport have changed their name to Ezi Car Rental and are no longer part of the Thrifty Group.

In the email they gave me the option to cancel so I decided to take up the offer of cancelling the car rental and here's what it said in the email about how to do this:

Simply go to ‘Manage booking' at the top of our website and cancel your car rental booking. To make sure you get a full refund, please select ‘Trip cancelled' and put "NZ*******" in the box underneath.(If you see a message about a cancellation fee, don't worry – as this is a special case, we'll refund the cancellation fee as well.)

After I cancelled, I received a partial refund and then contacted customer service to ask when the remaining amount was coming? You would think that was a simple request?.

Unfortunately not. I have spoken to over 10 people so far in all the available contact points (chat, email and over the phone) and every single one of them have told me that I am liable for the cancellation fees and if I want to dispute it I have to call Thrifty!

How can a company email me and tell me one thing and then the customer service people tell me something completely different? This is the worst service I have EVER experienced in my entire life. I feel like a liar even though I have written communication from then stating "Not to worry"!

THE ABSOLUTE WORST ORGANISATION IN THE WORLD TO DEAL WITH!

Don't use them at all.

We have booked a car rental on Rentalcars the day of the rental. The site gave us no information before the payment about the rental company. After the payment, we realized that we rented the car from Goldcar (Fuerteventura, Canary Islands), which had 1,6 (out of 5) Google rating, and was actually not located at the airport where we wanted to rent the car (they took us to the rental place with a bus after 20 mins of waiting).

We booked a full cover on Rentalcars (the rental cost approx 70 euros, and cover an additional 70). At Goldcar, they told us that the full cover we bought was useless, and if we do not want risk, we should definitely buy the real full cover (from them) for 160 euros. We wanted to cancel at rentalcars, but they told us it would cost us 70 euros for the cancellation. However they cancelled their "full cover" for free.
Goldcar said then that we also have to pay additional 20 euros for a flexfuel policy that we did not want (also, it was not included in the quote we received from Rentalcar). Again, we called Rentalcar and they said that they cannot remove this, but we can rebook, which would cost us 20 euros more than the original amount.

All in all, we ended up paying, 250 euros, instead of 140...

Tip for consumers:
use another site, please!

RENTALCARS.COM SCAMS its customers. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. They made me buy their insurance and guaranteed there were no additional insurances to be paid when picking up my car at Dublin Airport. Their rental agreement even stated that I do not need any additional insurances. I paid $15 a day for 12 days of my trip.

When I got to Dublin airport I could not leave with a car unless I paid additional insurance! I did not have enough money for a $5000 CAD deposit and so I had to pay $1100 upfront. I ended up paying 45 euros a day for 12 days. If I had not paid that then I wouldn't get the car. I was STUCK and had so many road trips planned in Ireland.

Now their customer service team is not taking responsibility for THEIR error and blaming their partners (Hertz Group and Thrifty) for their mistakes. I am definitely not backing down and have contacted their partners such as Hertz Group/Thrifty to report their misleading agreements with their customers. I am making sure that their partners are aware of their SCAMS as to not hurt their own brands.

Just book directly with Hertz, Avis, Enterprise or any other car companies. It may seem expensive but look what it has cost me in the end having to deal with this horrible horrible company.

Booking Reference Number:
*******: I found the sequence of the booking to be designed to take money off people, and then be quick to look for excuse not to give them their money back for service not rendered! Is this not fraud? A kind of "terms and conditions-based fraud." In my experience, they seem really interested in helping small car rental companies (who make their money by selling insurance excess protection) to get customers to use their credit cards to book vehicles. However, rentalcars.com were keen to collect initial booking fees from me with a debit card. If you dont own a credit card, which I don't, you will be forced to pay so-called insurance excess protection costing 5 times the original rental. I only realised this condition after the booking. I refused to pay for the excess protection and abandoned the rental. The sequence of the booking did not draw my attention to the need for a credit card, but of course I had already booked using a debit card. I lost my whole money, a week's rental collected in advance. I called customer service and asked them this question: With this way of booking, is it not the case that rentalcars.com are able to collect people's money (say £1000 advance payment) via a debit card, and down the line pocket this cash (non-refundable) on the basis of "it was there in our terms and conditions, that you needed a credit card to pick up the vehicle."? Is this not what is called "Advance fee fraud"? Do your directors know this? Their response was "Sorry, it is our terms and conditions which you agreed to."
My advice: NEVER use this company, as there is likely to be other Terms and conditions-based tricks, if not outright fraudulent practices. As they say, if it looks too good to be true... Its fraud. Be safe go directly to a reputable car rental company.
