Rover has a rating of 1.2 stars from 605 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Rover most frequently mention customer service, pet sitter, and next day problems. Rover ranks 487th among Dogs sites.
The reviews on here are absolutely insane, and not in a good way. 95% of Rover sitters are wonderful humans who care deeply about your pets. The reviews on here are clearly sabotage and paid for by other platforms. I will say that Rover as a platform is awful as they take 20% from sitters. Owners, if your sitter is comfortable, please pay them in cash. This will save you and them fees, plus Rover rarely actually intervenes when something goes wrong.
If you ever have a problem with billing, you will never be able to talk to someone. The sitters are wonderful, but, when my dog died, and I had to re-block for just my cat, they kept the 500+ dollars I had already paid and then made me pay again for the cat just to confirm since my dog died. Pretty heartless. Supposedly, I will get refunded for the visit I had but why can't they take the new booking out of the money I had already paid them? The most unnerving part is that they have this endless menu system that keeps you from reaching a real person. Their ratings also look really high on Google, but that's because the people they have a sitters are really good business end is terrible.
I payed 200 bucks to have my cats checked on twice a day for four days. While I went to a job in the other side of the state. My job got canceled and so I didn't have a need for the pet sitter anymore. In order for me to cancel the sitter, I would only get back 15 dollars of the 190. A complete joke. Then I read all the reviews on here, and can't believe I even trusted this company to begin with. STAY FAR AWAY!
We booked four days of doggy day care. When we arrived at the agreed time, there was no answer at the address the sitter had given. The phone number Rover.Com gave was not in service. We sent a message to the sitter through Rover.Com which she never answered. We submitted a complaint which was not answered. When we were asked to review the service we said we had not received any service and wanted a refund. Rover also didn't acknowledge this and charged us the full amount.
I've used Rover in the past, and was satisfied with sitters and rates. I just booked a week that includes President's Day. Rover doubled the sitter's rate for all 7 days of the stay, not just the actual day of the holiday. Very unfair.
Sophia visited our home, met our dog, and we showed her around and discussed how to care for our pup. We agreed on the dates and everything sounded like it was covered for our vacation in 9 days. Then, we never heard from her again. She left our house and we booked the dates through the app, sent her multiple messages and requests, to which she never responded. Finally 2 days before our vacation she told us she wouldn't be sitting for us. We were left without a sitter 2 days in advance of a holiday weekend. Incredibly inconsiderate, irresponsible and unprofessional. I wouldn't trust someone like that with my pet anyway. Thanks Sophia.
I discovered these guys a few months back when my friend was suddenly unavailable to help me out and I couldn't bear the idea of kennelling my dog. Found a brilliant sitter round the corner from where I live and she's been looking after my pug whenever I'm away. I did a Meet&Greet first, checked out her flat and asked a lot of questions. Highly recommended and affordable site!
I love Rover and have used them for about 10 years for my Great Danes. I carefully screen the sitters. I go to their house for a meet and greet with my dog to meet their pets. I make sure I know how many and what kind of pets they may keep when they are keeping mine. It is MY responsibility to check out the sitter. I have only had great experiences. I highly recommend using them - but you must check them out. There are ones I checked who I would not recommend end using. I have to be the judge but I have loved who I chose.

The pet sitter who is still on Rovers site should never be allowed to take care of any dog. My dog was neglected and became sick. The sitters are NOT screened carefully. Some have mental disorders or are sick themselves. We brought this to the attention of Rover and THEY DON'T CARE. Proceed at your own risk and don't go by first impressions. Better yet. DON'T USE THEM!
I had a person letting my dog out while I was at work... before I noticed an issue with her I left a good review... I tried to remove my review but rover.com was no help... they wanted me speak to lawyer and wanted to charge me for the lawyer... the rover employee was drinking my alcohol and trying on my clothes... I didn't want to cause trouble for her I just wanted to remove my review... I will not ever use rover.com again
After several attempts to actually speak to the "supposed" sitters and texting them over 8 times all I got was No Answer. Just wanted to confirm my reservation. Have a greet and meet because without that I refused to leave my baby in not trustworthy folks. If not able to answer me. For sure not able to care for my baby. My dog is supremely important. She is an ESA. WILL NEVER USE THOSE PUBLICIZED ADDS. Beware before dropping off your doggie. God bless our Dogs. A very concerned dog parent.
It is up to you to vet your pet sitter. It's your responsibility. Rover does background check and give sitters an online test. That's it. If you didn't meet the sitter beforehand, and you didn't make sure the person is qualified to watch your pet, then don't do it and go blaming the company. The sitters do not work for Rover.
I contracted a very nice young woman through rover. And she did a great job with my puppy. But Rover kept contacting me and telling me that I needed to make more appointments. Suggesting that my appointments were not in place. So I kept making more appointments. Then it was billing my credit card for two and three appointments at a time because I was double and triple booked. They were also contacting her and sending her notices that I was wanting her to reach out to me to create appointments. Then they were creating fictitious appointments and billing me for those. They refused to correct this. So then I canceled all my future appointments. And hired someone directly through my text messaging. Then they were billing my credit card for the appointments I was making with cash pay. In the end, they robbed me of hundreds of dollars and refused to repay me and refused to allow me to cancel future appointments. Total 100% scam
Tip for consumers:
When my bank contacted them about the missus of my credit card, they said I did not follow their cancel policy. You know, when they refused to allow me to cancel. Sadly, Wells Fargo was more than happy to throw me under the bus and allow them to steal this money from me for fictitious appointments that I never made

My dog was injured during a stay. The care taker was irresponsible, and the communication was poor. I don't know how Rover chooses their care takers but they need to do a better job. We did a meet and greet and they seemed quiet and distant. That should have been my first sign but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Rover HAS NOT been caring, kind or helpful in any means when it comes to helping cover the medical expenses arising from the injury. They have made the whole process an absolutely hell. At the end of the day, I want my pet to feel good again. READ THEIR TERMS BEFORE YOU BOOK. Please do yourself a favor and get someone trustworthy to watch your pet, don't trust this company to back you up.
My "sitter" used my dog and this service as a play date so he could get a break from his horrible untrained puppy. My dog was abused by his dog the entire time he was with the sitter. He slept the entire way home and when I got home my dog was traumatized by being battered by his dog.
It took thirty six hours for him to return to normal. I was in fear the whole time that trauma from an uncaring, horrible, self serving (you fill in the blank). What a horrible, arrogant p@$*ck my sitter was. His puppy had barely been trained and the sitter used my dog to get relief from his puppy monster.
He claimed he supervised the dogs and said, "In all honesty I took pictures as proof he was supervising the dogs, but the proof was in my dogs behavior. The sitter also relayed that my dog nearly got out of his yard, saying he was "relieved" that he got my dog back.
Do not take the risk that I did! I received unsafe, unsecured care by Mommy Dearest!
Rover is not a business that looks out for your pet, they are not a site that looks out for their owners or sitters. They do not understand the love of animals, They are only interested in collecting fee after fee after fee. They take money from the owners and from the sitters for each and every day. They charge an annual fee that is absolutely unnecessary and ridiculous. When a sitter offers a client a discount Rover considers that fraud. Meanwhile when you called there trust and safety team they apologize for everything and then tell you they can't help you because they are simply a platform that connects people together they have no responsibility to owner or sitter! When you call customer service they once again advise you they cant help but are very apologetic. Lastly when a dog gets sick, while away the insurance the sitters think they have are null and void.

Care for my dog
Rover is an app that connects pet owners to pet sitters. I am both - a sitter and an owner - and I have had great experiences. Make sure you read the terms of service. Also, I wouldn't hire someone just because they are cheap. I'd make sure that I met them beforehand and that they had excellent reviews. It's up to you to choose wisely. The app is just a platform.
I had two "Meet & Greets" with different dog sitters for my dog. I started the search in January for my vacation in May. I liked both & told them I would be making a decision within two weeks of my meeting with them. They both said not to worry. The one I met on 1/21/23 told me "Don't worry about making your decision I'll hold your spot". I told her I would get back to her the next weekend. I reached out on 1/29 & she gave my spot to someone else & lied telling me that she told me that she never said that. So I reached out to the other one, my second choice. It took 5 emails to get her to respond. When she finally did, she says "Sorry I've decided to start working so I won't be able to watch your dog". She should have updated her profile to say that! If they aren't going to keep their word or be available, then this site is worthless. The sitters aren't trustworthy & who cares if they have to do a background check. If I could give them Zero stars I would! BOO to Rover!
Tip for consumers:
Don't waste your time. The sitters prices change from what they post. They aren't reliable & you can't trust the reviews.
I've tried a few different sitters and found one very good one and another one who is just ok but with much higher prices. The last sitter that I tried to book changed her price after an agreed price was already paid. I didn't like the 50% increase so the booking was canceled as a result I lost half of the money that I paid. Be careful of the person that you hire and beware of any last minute price increases.
Look up reviews before you hire a Rover employee. My poor Tia and Mitsy were left alone most of the days that I hired Kristin. Luckily my son fed them and took care of them. Rover. Com never tried to pay back the money that Kristin charged us. She is studing to be a Tech Vet. What a joke!
She's incompetent and unstable! She kept my dog for 5 days, the 4th night she called me while on vacation to let me know my dog was attacked and his back was scratched by another small dog she accepted to sit. On the 5th day I was 1 hour late responding to her email about picking up my dog ( I was still in flight), by the time I responded she informed me she had already taken my dog that she's been sitting for 5 days— to the local animal SHELTER because of an appointment she had. She also stated Rover told her it was ok to do so.This person would not tell me where my dog was told me to leave her alone and contact Rover?!? I had to continue driving and calling and finally found my dog. The clerks there said she ran in frantic said she found this dog at Academy in the parking lot and ran back out. My dog has been traumatized by this woman, shaking, panting, very anxious when we picked him up… from the shelter! I spoke with Rover reps they were great taking the info etc and sympathetic but I want something done that will impact this sitter because this is unheard of.Reputation precedes everything so I'm letting who ever will listen know about Elidett Molina in Texas who refused to return my dogs bed, blanket etc until I got a police escort to make her open the door. Coward… and have the nerves to pet sit
Rover is a terrible business as our son and daughter-in-law had them watch their dogs while the family was in Orlando over Thanksgiving. Rover's employee, Jeremy allowed other individuals into the home and them robbed them blind! They stole thousands of dollars of clothing and other personal property and wouldn't take accountability for ANYTHING!
This business should be shut down as they are a bunch of crooks!
My daughter and I wasted 35 dollars on our background checks. We never got any business except for one. I wasted my time for a dog walk the dog was to aggressive. Even though the owners said it was a sweet dog. Had to leave with out walking the dog I received no compensation for my time.
I am in need of a dog sitter for 1 day, Labor Day weekend. Every sitter I wrote that even says Confirmed Availability: Labor Day is not available. Four sitters I wrote with 3 saying confirmed availability and all available. Hmm...
I have had multiple issues with Rover. I had one instance where a walker had a physical altercation with someone in my building which had multiple witnesses. I reached out to Rover and they recommended that I reach out to talk with him when I told them that I was afraid for my safety to do so. The final straw was that there was an emergency situation with my dog and a dog sitter and their emergency line did NOT work. No one answered and I had to resolve the emergency myself from states away.
I will never use this company again. I found a sitter on rover and set up a time to meet them to introduce her and my dog. The meeting was right before I was supposed to leave on a trip. The sitter never showed up and was unreachable through the app and by the company through her personal number. The company offered me $20 rover credit. I requested for the company to split the difference for the new sitter because it was $120 more expensive. They declined my request. The new sitter was great but was sick and will be missing a visit. I had to inconvenience family that don't live near me to help my dog. This company is very poor and does not care for their customers. Very unreliable and a company that shoulders responsibility by calling their employees independent contractors. They will not help fix a problem caused by their employees.

Terrible company. Unreliable service with loved dogs.
Tried to cancel a dog sit 7 days out due to change of travel plans connected to the coronavirus. Amy B. In Fort Collins Colorado texted me that I could cancel up to 3 days prior for a refund. Four days later I canceled. When I did NOT get a full refund her response was "oh that must have been a typo I meant 8 days. Called Rover customer service and they would not intervene even though they had the text messages with time stamps. This speaks to the integrity of the provider as well as company policy. STAY AWAY
