Rover has a rating of 1.2 stars from 605 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Rover most frequently mention customer service, pet sitter, and next day problems. Rover ranks 488th among Dogs sites.
The reviews on here are absolutely insane, and not in a good way. 95% of Rover sitters are wonderful humans who care deeply about your pets. The reviews on here are clearly sabotage and paid for by other platforms. I will say that Rover as a platform is awful as they take 20% from sitters. Owners, if your sitter is comfortable, please pay them in cash. This will save you and them fees, plus Rover rarely actually intervenes when something goes wrong.
If you ever have a problem with billing, you will never be able to talk to someone. The sitters are wonderful, but, when my dog died, and I had to re-block for just my cat, they kept the 500+ dollars I had already paid and then made me pay again for the cat just to confirm since my dog died. Pretty heartless. Supposedly, I will get refunded for the visit I had but why can't they take the new booking out of the money I had already paid them? The most unnerving part is that they have this endless menu system that keeps you from reaching a real person. Their ratings also look really high on Google, but that's because the people they have a sitters are really good business end is terrible.
Booked what appeared to be a younger girl in our area. Schedule said she was available. I contacted her, and nope, turns out she works a full time job. Then said she is available on weekends. Okay, booked her for the weekend. Got a text today, a month before we are supposed to leave, and suddenly she has a family emergency that she will need to be out of town for. How nice. I found a neighborhood lady on Nextdoor. Sounds like I dodged a bullet by having the girl from Rover cancel on me. Based on what others have to say
She lost our dog then refused a refund. Got a call from a neighbor a few blocks away from her house said she found our Shih-tzu wandering around. We were 4 hours away and could not come home til the next day. When confronted, she didn't even know he was missing! Rover was no help at all.
I'm a new dog walker/sitter, on a long hold for a supervisor at rover.com, after speaking with two silly script-reading robots. They tried to stiff me on the full weekend I sat for three dogs, by paying me for one day only. Now, back at the same house, where I'm having to do ALL the book-keeping for them. What is the point of using an agency? Would I recommend rover.com to other walkers/sitters? NO. At the least they are amazingly incompetent, at the most dishonest. And, I had to pay them $35 for a background check! What a chump was I.
4 different carers but all with same poor level of communication whilst attempting to make a booking for an overnight stay in the carers dwelling. When I complained about them, two of the carers suddenly responded with different excuses as to why they could not respond all day. And one even threatened to report me for saying that the level of communication was atrocious. My advise is pay a little more money or in some cases the same money and book a really good doggy boarding place
It is all about them money. I was a sitter and my dog was attacked about a customer's dog and required staples. Rover wanted an "incident" report but never followed through to make sure my dog was okay.
Also, we use to be with Dogvacay who treated us so well. Sending a box of dog treats and toys for Christmas. Rover sends nothing, despite us making them lots of money.
Really sad they treat their sitters this way.
While the site/app is helpful in finding a sitter, it has no option for hourly sitting in your home (i.e., "come hang out at our house with our dog while we go out to dinner.) The cost of the sitters is exorbitant because Rover takes a huge chunk of the rate. They also add an additional fee. I avoid using it as much as possible.

This is a pet sitter-finding site/app
Complete rip-off for dog-owners and dog walkers. They take 50% of the money you pay up front. Walkers can show up or no show. There is no accountability after you pay up-front for services. Do not believe their "guarantee" of service, it is total load of crap. The people I'm sure have good intentions of working but zero incentive to follow through because they are paid up front and paid less than they should be for the job since administrators for Rover take all the money. Hire them and pay outside of Rover if you use it at all.
Tip for consumers:
better results on Care.com which also provides dog sitting, easier to use, and set up your own payment system.
I am appalled on how greedy Rover is. They charge 15% of the booking cost PER DAY. So my dog sitter agreed to charge me £20 a day as I need to have my dog full time, 5 days a week, on day care. So in a month with 22 working days Rover wants me to pay £66 just to book. I have never seen or came across such a greedy service provider. I can understand to charge a % on the booking. But per day? And when you read their Guarantee there are a lot of exclusions. So for £66 which is double to what I pay for my dog insurance you are hardly covered. Very disappointing.
I got fast responses from two dog sitters. One said she just realized she was not going to be home that weekend I had requested a sitter, the other said she was reviewing her messages and would get back with me later that day...of course I never heard from her.
Don't even waste your time filling out the information.
A video has surfaced of a rover dot cone sitter abusing a small puppy, this video is legitimate and has been posted by trustworthy sources. I encourage everyone to never use this service and inform anyone you might know considering using this company.
I was looking for a sitter to watch my pets while on vacation and have not heard a reply at all! I have talked to others who say the exact same thing happened to them! That is terrible! Don't waste your time with Rover.com. If they can't even answer your email about pet sitting how on earth can you trust them in your home with your beloved pets! Shame on you Rover.com!
Maybe its my area but i worked so long to try to ge tthis bavkfround check just for the app to be lame and confusing. Many other services have cheaper background checks & a way easier platform for future walkers. If ur thinking/contemplating the background check this your sign TO NOT PAY FOR IT. Find another side hustle please.
They stole my informationand charged by credit card. They refused to help. They claimed their fraud department "doesn't do phone calls." They are the least honest and least reliable company in America. Please go somewhere else! Anywhere!
Tip for consumers:
SCAM Company! Don't us anyone associated with Rover.com

If you use this service your dog will indeed DIE! Do yourself a favor and ask a family member instead or just take your pet on.vaction with you. They are a fraudulent $#*!ed up company. They don't deserve a platform. He destroyed my beautiful animal.
Sitter tried to hold my dog hostage and refused to give my dog back if I didn't pay her more money for the stress my dog caused her. I had to call police and get law enforcement involved. Rover did not assist. Rover was made aware of this and she is still listed as a sitter
Poorly managed site and would not recommend. After booking a dog walker two times they never showed up for the meet and greet. These people are scammers and a complete waste of time. When I thought I found a reliable dog walker he started changing the times, quit after 2 months and then no showed the last two weeks! These people don't care if your dog is walked or they would show up or at least communicate with the owner if they can't make it. I've had better luck finding reliable people on Care.com.
Rover talks a good game that they are there to help if there are any problems. Satisfaction guarantee and all that BS. But when the rubber meets the road and you ask for a refund they tell you "all our sitters are independent contractors, you should call them directly and work it out" I could not be less pleased w/ the service I received or the customer service Rover try to dole out to me after there was a problem. Buyer beware!
I registered on this site because their home page led me to think they offered services for cat sitting as well as dogs, apparently they don't. It is all dogs, dogs, dogs. When trying to deactivate I get sent in circles. Referred back to the help page which does not cover that. Very poorly presented..
I was looking after a dog that became extremely agitated, so I called the customer service to get some help and she suggested to turn on the TV. I am full of bruises and scratches. What is the point of having a customer service if she's just going to Google any random thing.

Molly was lost 34 days ago. Rover printed some flyers and then stopped because their budget was used. That's it! They said to go after the sitter. Rover cares NOTHING about your pet. The more sitters they have, the more money they make. No checking sitter at all. In fact, sitter that lost our dog is still on the site with 5 star reviews!
Hire at your own risk and the risk is heartbreaking.

I hired a sitter off rover recently. She completely neglected our animals and left our house a disgusting mess. Worse yet, after running a background check on her, we discovered she is a convicted felon. I am shocked that Rover would allow this. Especially when they claim to require background checks for sitters to qualify for site. I am now pursuing legal action.
Extremely unhappy that on the very second visit to my house the dog sitter tried bringing her boyfriend inside my house without even asking me if that was ok. As soon as they they realized i knew of his presence he ran back to the car. After that she she started sending me a barrage of texts about how she was not happy that she was being monitored "without her consent" by the security cameras. She should know that this is the reason why people have security cameras so they can monitor the safety of their house and a person who is going to walk the dog should not have a problem with a security camera being there if there is no wrong intent.
Also in talking with Rover, they said they don't have a policy which prohibits the dog sitters from doing anything like this. This is very scary to me, as people are using Rover, thinking Rover has the security procedures in place, but actually they don't.
I might have saved myself from being robbed that day.
Never planning to use Rover again.
Horrible, horrible service. Their rover guarantee of safety is worthless. What they don't tell you is that they only cover the vet bill for anything over $250. The pet sitter was nice, but she didn't even notice that my dog had been bitten, was bleeding, and was in pain. By the time that I picked up my dog (only 2 nights there thankfully), the blood on her ear was dry and there was pus from the infection. When I told the sitter about the vet bill, she said to call rover. Now Rover and the pet sitter are avoiding me. This is going to the better business bureau.
Wendy was a great sitter for our dogs, She sent pictures of them while we were gone, & they looked content. She took care of our house and plants too! This was the first time using Rover which was recommended by a good friend.
The whole reason to go through a website like Rover is so there is a layer of protection between you and the sitter. You think that in the event of a problem, Rover will step in and rectify the situation.
I'm here to let you know, they will not. They could care less who is listed as a sitter on their site. We booked a sitter through rover.com to do once a day 30 min to change food and litter. We came home one night at 1:30 in the morning to find her past out in our bed and empty alcohol bottles of ours littered throughout the apartment.
According to Rover they can only offer a third party mediator in case of a sitter issue. They don't care what happened and said they think they can "coach" the sitter so it won't happen again. I don't even think they read my emails because I would immediately remove someone like that from my business.
Needless to say, I highly do not recommend Rover. They offer you no help should an issue arise.
