Rover has a rating of 1.2 stars from 605 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Rover most frequently mention customer service, pet sitter, and next day problems. Rover ranks 488th among Dogs sites.
The reviews on here are absolutely insane, and not in a good way. 95% of Rover sitters are wonderful humans who care deeply about your pets. The reviews on here are clearly sabotage and paid for by other platforms. I will say that Rover as a platform is awful as they take 20% from sitters. Owners, if your sitter is comfortable, please pay them in cash. This will save you and them fees, plus Rover rarely actually intervenes when something goes wrong.
If you ever have a problem with billing, you will never be able to talk to someone. The sitters are wonderful, but, when my dog died, and I had to re-block for just my cat, they kept the 500+ dollars I had already paid and then made me pay again for the cat just to confirm since my dog died. Pretty heartless. Supposedly, I will get refunded for the visit I had but why can't they take the new booking out of the money I had already paid them? The most unnerving part is that they have this endless menu system that keeps you from reaching a real person. Their ratings also look really high on Google, but that's because the people they have a sitters are really good business end is terrible.

Hired a "house sitter" through Rover. Met with her and emailed and left the same instructions at the house. She never stayed. Came home to cat vomit all over the deck, dog poop with maggots and dead plants and that is just the highlights. Oh and she managed to let my dog out of the fenced in yard. Tried to dispute the charges with my credit card company but Rover takes the position that they are not responsible for the "contactor". So why did I pay Rover?
When I had a last minute illness, Rover kept all my money because I couldn't prove a doctor thought I was too ill to travel. Never mind that the doctor said I was too ill to work. I've had much better experiences finding through Craigslist or my local vet than a faceless corporation that only cares about their bottom line.
I booked a dog sitter, the day before I reached out to confirm the time and where he lived and he never responded. I was forced to cancel and find a new sitter, but still charged. River said it's not their problem. Well of course this guy ghosts people if he can still get paid for doing nothing!
I'm currently being stalked by a sitter (Kristen Rowe) whom I used while I was living in NC last summer. This woman has been stalking me online and Rover refuses to do anything. Their customer service is absolutely horrendous. When you call and finally reach a person, they can tell you NOTHING. They say they will transfer your request to another dept and that dept will email you. It's unreal. I have now deleted my account and will never use them again.
I was a sitter and had almost 20 positive reviews and 0 negative reviews. The owner and his two dogs had 0 reviews. After caring for his dogs, I reported a bitting incident to Rover about the dogs and they asked the owner for his side of the story. I took the liberty to report the incident to Rover to warn future sitters about the rude owner and his aggressive dogs. Rover decided to fully terminate me after MY report. This is not how a business should operate and I definitely do not recommend using them in the future.
We hired what turned out to be a very dishonest pet sitter through Rover to do six 30-minute drop-in sessions. She was to stay 30 mins. Each session, which never happened BUT she sent us texts and photos making it look like she'd stayed at our house for an hour each time, probably hoping for a nice tip. Fifth visit time came and went. No pet sitter. She finally sent a text THE FOLLOWING DAY at 12:35 a.m. saying she was at our house for the previous night's dinner visit. Then she sent a duplicate photo of our dogs from her first visit 3 days prior. Had she actually arrived at 12:35 a.m., she would have set off the alarm system, which didn't happen. We reviewed our Ring doorbell footage. She never showed up for the fifth visit. She lied at the time, and then tried to lie her way out of it. Rover doesn't stand behind their service. To get a refund, I had to contact the pet sitter directly and have her sign off on the refund. I'm still waiting. I would never recommend this company to anyone.
I never received my keys back after disagreement with the sitter and they were not held accountable nor did they have to pay for my locks to be replaced:
When she saw my ring cameras in my own house she had a mental breakdown. Rover told her to put my cameras down. Which is crap that is my house not there's. She threatened to leave. Thank God I had a friend to cover the last days
I do not recommend their service
BEWARE! Even the sweet five star home care little old lady rover sitter has a dirty secret and that is where she keeps your dog. Disgusted. Guilty. My poor shih tzu.

Booked for four nights had her rescued after a day by a friend as I was across the country.
I used rover for four years till something terrible happens, I drop off my dog on Friday and the following Sunday the sitter called me to say my dog could not walk. Then she said she did not know what happen that night but she only realized she ate something plastic and a dog toy. The thing is that my dog got even worse, started la vomiting what she ate and following got a surgery because the problem was in her neck. I never knew if she receive an impact or what was that. But when I made the claim, they wash their hands saying that it was something that usually happens to the breed of my dog. So, the insurance does not work and they do not know if dogs or cats are in safe places or reaching objects that they are not supposed to have access.
Not recommend this app at all. Not safe, not reliable
After a few years with Rover and cared for 100's of dogs they penalize pet sitters if dogs have an altercation with one another and don't care about its sitters. Very unfair practices and non professional.
They are a complete scam! I applied to be a sitter, and as soon as I created an account and added my bank information, they deducted $49 without my consent. When I called to ask why, they claimed it was an application review fee—something I never agreed to. I requested to cancel my account and get a refund, but they put me on hold forever. Their customer service is terrible, with representatives who barely speak English. No wonder their review is 1.3 on Google. Avoid Rover.com!
Hamilton boarding facility, not legal, under investigation by PAWS, 2 dogs died under her care and likely many more. Tried to reach out to Rover and can't email or speak directly. AI answers the chat only. No idea what the screening process is to be allowed to post a business with them. Use with caution. Go see the facilities to confirm they are legit.

First time using Rover. Little did I know last time I would see my adorable companion! Within 3 hours of the reservation, I get a call my baby was hit by a car. Rushed to the ER only to be told my angel Expired. You cannot imagine how heartbroken and devastated I felt. Mourning! Last time I see him. 😭 😭
My dog was bitten by another dog during her stay with a rover sitter. Rover makes the owners pay for the expenses, up to $250. No accountability from the company or the sitter. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR DOG'S SAFETY!
I'm never using this service again! They don't uphold agreement and many of the reviews can be faked, so you don't know how your pup is actually treated.
My regular dog sitter was unavailable for my dog and I booked a 30min walk with Rover.com. I paid $25.53 which included $2.53 in fees. I usually pay $18 for 30min. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my booking with only 23hrs notice. I learned later, that the cancellation policy stated a partial refund would be given with cancellations less than 24hrs notice. I was refunded 50% of my payment for being 1hr short of their 24hr policy, which was not clearly stated prior. I will not use Rover.com again for any reason.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Horrible American company that doesn't care about their pet sitters. Our long-time pet sitter just got shut down because she was honest with Rover. Some of the dogs she cares for get seasonal/ environmental illnesses, & she was honest with Rover & pet parents. Most of the dogs are seniors who are more susceptible to getting sick. If a dog was sick, she took it to the vet & paid for medication. Rover canceled her sitter account because of dogs having illnesses in her care.
She cares immensely for animals! Value your employees!
The pet sitter I hired on Rover.com proved to be unreliable, failing to arrive at the agreed time and neglecting to administer medication to my elderly cat at the times instructed. This jeopardized my cats' well-being, prompting me to lodge a complaint with Rover's Trust and Safety department. To my dismay, they decided to retain the sitter on their platform despite my concerns. I have decided to discontinue using their services due to the subpar standard of care they find acceptable. I would urge others not to use their services.
I just spent about 3 hours I'll never get back trying to arrange a house sitter for my two dogs. After telling Rover what and when I needed someone, they sent a list of "candidates". After going back and forth with "Meg", feeling like I was at a job interview, she messaged me to first explain the dates wouldn't work. I told her the dates to begin with, she could have saved me hours by simply telling me that to begin with! But no, she had to get all the details, including needing to know all about my house (nice), my dogs intimate details (ok) and their health status. As I told her, they have zero medical issues. They are about the easiest dogs to care for you could hope for. But besides the dates, she wasn't prepared to deal with my dogs "issues"...they have no issues! I can only assume she was looking for a nice house with a good TV and dogs that took care of themselves so she wouldn't have to get off her $#*!!
Also, the rates quoted were totally messed up. The total was fine, but the daily fee for 2 dogs was 1/2 the fee for my 1 cat that requires ZERO care!
Lastly, every single review for every pet sitter was 5 Stars... EVERY SINGLE ONE. Some had as many as 302 reviews with 100% 5 Stars. Not 4.5,4.8,4.9...5.0! What a total crock. Don't trust these people to be honest in anything they do!

I've been using Rover for daily drop-in visits for my puppy for the past 9 months. In that time, I've had 5 different sitters, all who have eventually flaked out for various reasons. Most failed to follow basic instructions, left doors open and unlocked, and/or filled my garbage can with fast food wrappers daily.
Countless other sitters who show up as "available" when I search tell me they are not, in fact, available for the type of visit I searched for.
People who sign up to work through Rover typically can't hold any other type of job, so don't expect quality or reliability.
There isn't enough of a service provided for my situation to rationalize the extra costs. I am better meeting folks one on one and communicating with them directly. But if you need it be prepared to give money to a corporation rather than your hard working care givers.
