Rover has a rating of 1.2 stars from 605 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Rover most frequently mention customer service, pet sitter, and next day problems. Rover ranks 487th among Dogs sites.
The reviews on here are absolutely insane, and not in a good way. 95% of Rover sitters are wonderful humans who care deeply about your pets. The reviews on here are clearly sabotage and paid for by other platforms. I will say that Rover as a platform is awful as they take 20% from sitters. Owners, if your sitter is comfortable, please pay them in cash. This will save you and them fees, plus Rover rarely actually intervenes when something goes wrong.
If you ever have a problem with billing, you will never be able to talk to someone. The sitters are wonderful, but, when my dog died, and I had to re-block for just my cat, they kept the 500+ dollars I had already paid and then made me pay again for the cat just to confirm since my dog died. Pretty heartless. Supposedly, I will get refunded for the visit I had but why can't they take the new booking out of the money I had already paid them? The most unnerving part is that they have this endless menu system that keeps you from reaching a real person. Their ratings also look really high on Google, but that's because the people they have a sitters are really good business end is terrible.
My fiancé and I turned to them to sit with our 12 year old dog. We met the person that said she could do it and with no time left to find someone else she cancels. Leaving is having to cancel our first outing since the pandemic. Not only did we lose money on the event but it is a pain to get refunded. You would be better off trusting your vet to take care of your fur babies so don't trust these crooks.
Tip for consumers:
This is a bad service recommend looking elsewhere

None because we had to stay home because they cancelled on us
I booked with Janessa then she slaps on extra fees and insurance which is not mentioned anywhere in the ad, Just 35,00 per hour it went from 280 to 430. Was not impressed then she tells me I am not a fit for her services...REALLY! Would not call her again be cautious when booking deceptive add ons.
A dog was dropped off sick. I asked rover to help me with the 24/7 support and they were not available, came back to me 2 days after and closed my account saying I should have taken the dog to the vet
The owner asked me not to
The vet didn't want to take the dog without the approval from the owners
My account is now closed and they said:
Please know that we do not take these decisions lightly, and have used a variety of considerations to make this decision. This decision is not subject to appeal. Any upcoming or pending stays you may have will be cancelled, and we will work with those users to assist in finding alternative arrangements.
My regular pet sitter couldn't watch my golden doodle. Kathy from Seaford had 101 five star reviews. So I tried Rover. She had concealed, 7-8 dogs. It was winter and freezing out. She only left them in her kitchen or outside. But people's dogs were also put in her freezing cold garage! They had to be in cages!. She had no warm and fuzzy towards the dogs. This was about making money only. I had already paid for 12 days but had to have my Goddaughter come pick him up from Brooklyn to get him out of there. When she got there, she had thrown his stuff out on the ground and was just standing at the door and coldly handed him off. My Goddaughter then heard all the barking from the freezing garage. My sweet therapy golden doodle fled the house literally! Don't use her if you love your dog and expect a nice home environment. Also, Rover then asks you for a review directly to them. My guess is they kill the bad reviews to keep feeding their pockets.
I don't know if Rover.com is paying for good reviews, or simply found a way to have the best ones show until you scroll way down as far as you can go, but; My best friend and buddy for life all but died yesterday while in the hands of an Rover.com participant while I was in surgery at the local VA hospital. I unfortunately had to leave the recovery room early to find and tend to her. The poor thing still cannot walk this morning and I have already deleted the app. It is so nonfunctional anyway. Between serious sign in and touchscreen issues only found on Rover.com I give up. Kick this app to the curb and find a better one!
We have had so many last-minute cancellations without explanation. Rover does nothing to help. Just today our sitter was supposed to arrive at 12 pm. At 12:05 pm I get a notification that the stay is canceled and received no explanation from the sitter or Rover. Now I have to leave work early to let my dog outside...
Also, most of the time the sitters do not stay the whole time like they've been hired to do. Make sure you have a key code lock and cameras so you can monitor them.
We're done using this service. We need reliability which Rover apparently cannot provide.
I asked a Rover.com sitter to come over and meet us and she was very pregnant plus she was rude. She also could not provide any physical care for our small dogs. I tried to get another pet sitter who had "verified availability" on Rover.com for the dates we needed, but it turns out she did not. Very disappointed. Rover.com doesn't provide decent pet sitters.
A nightly rate after putting in all the pets that you have at your home should be what the rate total is. We did a meet and greet with someone who is nightly rate was $30, but when she came we found out that it was $30 per animal. The site should show that. It is ridiculous to waste everyone's time when such an easy fix would be available.
My dog was killed by his Rover sitter. I paid for in home sitting and she took my blind, 12 year old dog from my home without my permission to her home where he "fell" off a 2 story balcony on to concrete. Except, he didn't fit through the railing. Rover took no accountability and offer have of the expenses of his death. The condition of taking the money they offer in their guarantee? Signing a non-disclosure so you can never warn another dog owner about the dangers of Rover.com. If you want your dog to live STAY AWAY!

I have used Rover 2 times and both times the service was far below par. On the second attempt the sitter told me she would be there 4 hours before the apt. It was my sons wedding we were out of town and she pulled a no show. I honestly would not use Rover if you don't have a plan B in place. Tim

Hi Tim,
Ashlyn sent you a message about the stay for Molly and Mackie from 01/15/2022 to 01/16/2022.

Ok
Rover.com promises "You can Trust Us." So I met their pet sitter, who seemed nice, and arranged for her to watch my dog over the Thanksgiving holiday. When I arrived at the sitter's home at the appointed time, there was no answer. I repeatedly tried to contact her--no answer. I then called Rover.com's emergency phone number. I asked Rover.com's support to please contact the sitter, as time was drawing short before I had to leave for the airport for my trip. They put me on hold-- and several minutes elapsed as they were confused if I was "canceling" or not. They apparently had trouble contacting the sitter also. But they offered no back-up plan--I was left scrambling at the last minute, to find someone else to watch my dog, trying not to miss my plane. A neighbor unconnected to Rover.com helped me out. I made my flight with seconds to spare. No, you cannot "trust Rover.com"--what kind of screening are they giving these dog sitters?
The first sitter I used was very responsible and did a good job. The next time I needed a sitter she was not available and hasn't been available since. So I selected another sitter who seemed to have a good credentials according to her bio. I paid for two overnight stays. On each day she texted me that she got there at five and left and will be back at 9 PM. I was very upset at this as I had stressed to her that I wanted someone there at five until the next morning. When I got home I realized that she had not even stayed the night. My security cameras showed her leaving at nine and not returning until the next morning. I recommend not to use this service as the sitters are not even vetted and seem to only care about the money. Listen to the other bad reviews here! I have gone back to using accredited Pet Sitting services. You can't put a price tag on our furry companions after all.
The per sitter found through Rover left my animals for 24 hours locked in a crate in the garage. Had my neighbor not alerted me it would have been a disaster.
I called Rover support that next evening to log my complaint. It went nowhere. The gal who took my call did not turn it over to the correct dept. Trust and Safety. I had to keep calling and emailing and a week later and after an hour on the phone got some satisfaction. The sitter and Rover agreed my money should be refunded. I wanted a review done with the sitter. It took another 2 weeks before Rover told me they had concluded a review with her. This was my first experience with Rover and my last. They believe the sitter over the customer and are slow to take any action.
Rover is absolutely not safe and I have all the proof. The sitter responsible for permanently paralyzing my dog is still available and recommended for hire on Rover's website.
Users have no idea if any sitter has a prior record of complaints, incidents or accidents, because Rover won't disclose this and they won't remove them.

This is the first and last time I'll use rover.
I booked a sitter for my dog and cat 3 weeks prior to leave on my vacation. The sitter canceled 3 days before.
I reached out to customer service to help me find someone. The first representative was somewhat helpful. She reached out to some more sitters for me, but none of them responded.
I called customer service again, because I was freaking out. I was leaving in 2 days. The second representative was extremely rude and aggressive. She basically told me "sucks for you. Can't help". I would never recommend this app / service to any pet owner.
My pet died while being watched by a Rover sitter. I received a call at midnight saying that my dog had a seizure and died. Tug had never had a seizure and while yes, accidents happen, this case appears to be ignorance and neglect. Tug was an English Bulldog who overheats quickly. We made sure to point that out to the sitter. When I went to get Tug I asked her what she had done. She said that they took a bike ride and had Tug Run along with them. That's a no go for a bulldog, in due he died from heart stroke. Stay away from Rover please, please. Please. Don't be the next family with broken hearts.
I booked a dog/house sitter I had used once before, and she was great. This time the sitter had a massive drunken rager at my house. My hot tub had some unknown content and had to be drained and cleaned. My dining room chair destroyed, stains on my couch, custom mounted TV had wires falling out, vomit in my driveway. She ate my food and drank all of the drinks in my refrigerator. The house was filthy and disgusting. My poor dogs water hadn't been changed. I have tape from 1:59 am of them partying. Overall, $1,000 worth of damage.
I apparently booked through the rover phone assigned to this person, so was it was not through there platform. They refused any liability.
My dog died in the care of one of Rover's pet sitters. Rover has found every reason to not pay for the medical expenses associated with the passing of my precious dog. There has been no investigation in to the incident and Rover still allows this sitter to remain part of their enterprise. Poor reviews are not posted. Sitters are not properly vetted and Rover is not accountable for anything that goes wrong. If you care about your pet, do not use their services.
I've worked with Rover for a couple of years, their app has gotten less and less reliable, and I don't get a response from customer service. They make it incredibly hard just to change the date of a walk. They leave their workers with little to no support. When I contacted the phone line and finally got a human, they told me I was wrong about the app now working in a particular way. I don't appreciate being Gaslit by my employer. I am working with a family run business instead that actually gives a damn about its employees. Don't book with Rover, Google or local service. Absolute trash.

Pet sitting
I've had a few great sitters on Rover, but when I booked a stay this past weekend, my sitter took a photo of the instructions, including my address and phone number, to show me she had it. Rover then shared that private information in their public Rover Reel, which ANYONE can see. I reached out to them as soon as I noticed this and they said they corrected it. I checked and it was still up. I reached out AGAIN and asked again for them to take down the Reel. A few hours later, it was finally taken down with no apologies, just some explanation that IF that had happened, it would not have been shared (although I confirmed it was, my friends could see it while not logged in). She stated that I should have marked that photo as private. So, I guess it's my fault they publically shared my information. Cool.
Rover is an app that has independent contractor's so they're not liable for anything. Even with a 5 star rating as a pet sitter, don't trust them! I told the company what happened with over $200 of items stolen and forgot to feed them a few times, they said they couldn't do anything as they're not employee's! I don't have cameras to prove the robbery. It's very upsetting to have someone steal thing's from you and take care of my pets when I trusted the app service. Disappointed.
They take 20% of what you charge for insurance and it doesn't even cover anything. I would not recommend meeting strangers online. I petsit a dog in my home and they did not inform me that it breaks through fences and cries non-stop all day and night. It broke through our wooden fence and ran away. Rover insurance does nothing to cover this other than a little bit of emotional support and tips on how to find them.
I booked a sitter in August who then canceled in October. Between August and October I had to cancel my credit and bank accounts due to fraud. Rover refunded my old account for $655. The refund of course didn't go back to me because that account doesn't exist. However, Rover claims they've refunded me and gave me a 'tracking number ' that leads to no where. They won't just give me a check or refund the current card on my account. They told me this: "…when it comes to refunds, it will always go back to where it came from and rarely would it be processed on a different bank card. " so basically if you have to cancel a credit card you're screwed. Be very very careful! They will take your money in a heartbeat and claim to only. I would give zero stars if possible.
Tip for consumers:
Don’t use rover unless you don’t mind not getting a refund.

The pet sitters are Mostly amazing !! The customer service on Rover.com is terrrrible.
So frustrating! If you need a sitter plan on contacting 6-10 sitters AND prepare to get 6 "I'm sorry, I'm not available those days but PLEASE keep me in mind for future requests". I also get, "Yes, I'm available" then 1 day later I get "I made plans for that time period, please think of me for future". Like I would ever contact you again. Rover needs to keep track of all their sitters that say they're available but when you make a request, they are NOT! I've used them 3 times now and same aggravation each time. Dog sitters, be considerate and keep your calendar updated!
Tip for consumers:
Give yourself plenty of time to find a sitter for boarding your pet. Also, there is a required meet and greet before they accept your request. If the sitter feels it's not a good fit, you will be back to square one.
Rover is not customer service oriented at all and the sitters take advantage of it. I was trying to book one sitter to house sit and she flipped a $#*! when I asked her for proof of covid vaccination for house sitters (per Rover community recommendations). All she had to say was she wasn't comfortable sharing it, but she was immediately offended and called me distrusting, dramatic, etc. She cancelled my booking right away. Very unprofessional and kind of crazy. I had to block her after trolling her a bit. Since Rover doesn't let me do anything about such a terrible experience with one of their sitters, I thought I'd write about it here.
