I've created 27 projects over the past 15 years on Shutterfly. This includes 15 different photo books. Each and every time, I've always received excellent, professional customer service and beautiful books. I custom design all my books. There may have been a couple of times over the years that I needed Shutterfly to help with a mistake. However, they stand behind there products 100%. If you aren't an experienced design person then ask for help. Use high quality photos! Remember Shutterfly didn't take the pictures. The photo quality of books and cards depend on what you upload. Low quality photos will create poor quality projects; so don't blame Shutterfly for your photos. They will make what you approve. Start your project early enough to allow for help and receive book in ample time in case the book or cards need to be possibly replaced if it's the direct fault of Shutterfly.
I ordered three photo books. The order was processed, they gave me a delivery date and then only one book came in the mail. No explanation- I figured it was an error and called customer service. I was told that it would come in two shipments---Why? This makes no sense and was a huge inconvenience. Now I see all the complaints I understand this is not a one off. I will not use them again. Way too expensive for such poor service!
I was so excited when Shutterfly sent me the email link to review and edit my wedding photobook and I poured hours into making it something I would be so proud to share with friends and family except each time I hit save, I'd get an error message that "oops. Something went wrong and your project could not be saved. Please try again later. So I did try again at home, at work and at my local coffee shop only to be sent back to square 1 aka their lame version. I emailed customer service for help and THAT was a tragic joke that could rival anything Monty Python could dream up. I just wish I had checked the reviews before wasting so much time on it and uploading my personal photos. AVOID SHUTTERFLY, SHUTTER DOWN!
My Christmas card order was placed on 12/2, estimated delivery date 12/14, paid $18 for shipping. They were shipped on 12/4 and tracking hasn't been updated since 12/7... I reached out to customer service earlier in the week, was told I could request a refund if not received in a few days. I contacted them again today and was told SHUTTYFLY ISN'T MAKING ACCOMMODATIONS UNLESS THE ORDER ARRIVES AFTER CHRISTMAS. What good are Christmas cards that arrive too late to mail them before Christmas? The customer service rep. Was like talking to a robot. I'm going to take the advice of another reviewer and file a claim with my credit card company. Will never use Shutterfly again.
Tip for consumers:
Don't use them! Horrible customer service, don't honor delivery windows or respect that cards are time sensitive.

Beware - there is no guarantee that Shutterfly will make it right if they provide you with a very low quality product. My original order did not arrive as expected. The picture was not well placed on the order and did not match what was visible when designed. I sent for a re-make and specifically asked for a quality control review. I was told it would add 5 days and agreed to this.
The second order arrived and it was exactly like the first and it did not take additional 5 days because they did not conduct any quality control review.
I asked for my money back. No-go! They gave me a credit to order again. So I did. The third order arrived and it was worse than the first 2. They actually cut the picture off from the middle of the eyes. The guys head was cut off at the eye line. Again - NO quality review.
Asked for my money back. Again. No-go. Policy is… no money back even if their quality is bad. I could pay more money to send it back to them so they can consider a refund. By now - I'm already 50 bucks into a 3.5 inch piece of glass.
Where do I go from here? I'm out nearly 50 bucks for a Christmas gift ornament that I couldn't give to my daughter.
This company just won the Costco contract since Costco got out of the business. What a disappointment. I will not do business with this company again. Hope Costco knows they turned their business over to a terrible company.

Find a different company that will follow their own guarantee.

Placed an order for invitations and spent $14.99 to rush the delivery. Supposed to arrive Friday Oct 6. Then it's updated to Saturday the 7th. Still fine because I was hand delivering them on Sunday the 8th. DHL turns it over to the post office (huge mistake) Saturday mid morning. Post office doesn't deliver and Monday is a holiday so new delivery date is Tuesday the 10th. I contact Shutterfly and they claim my delivery date was the 9th (Monday). Not true. They insist that it will still arrive Monday and if it doesn't to contact them for a refund. As expected it didn't arrive so I contact customer service and they claim my delivery date is the 10th. Nope it's not. They refuse to back down or refund my money. Offer me a credit on a future order. I declined and ask for my money back and they come back and tell me my delivery date was always the 10th. No, no it wasn't. I would not recommend ever again. They used to be good but like many companies they have gone to crap.
Shutterfly, which sends a near-daily marketing email, apparently buried an email about deleting photos of inactive customers. Which we had been due to pandemic and illness, Now we have nothing despite 15+ years of orders, including annual holiday cards. Only advice from customer service is to re-upload, which we obviously cannot do because we used Shutterfly for storage. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP! SELECT A MORE RELIABLE OPTION! SAVE THE HEARTBREAK!
Tip for consumers:
Shutterfly does not appear to be a viable business and customers run the risk of losing all photos stored

I'm disappointed. I've been getting emails about Shutterfly's Christmas card promotions for several weeks. I saw that they had a low price guarantee where once you've ordered your cards if a better sale is offered a conversation with customer service will result in a credit for the difference. So I ordered my cards. They arrived yesterday. They look great and I'm happy and today I get an email where my cards are on sale and the difference for the cards with free shipping now would be $42.59. So I contacted customer service and they won't honor the deal because the card guarantee was not part of the promotion I used when I ordered. This feels underhanded and crooked and leaves me feeling taken advantage of. The customer service agent was polite and professional and offered me a $20 voucher for a future purchase. I'm not feeling like I want to be a repeat customer when you pick and choose your low price guarantee. I'm a mom of seven kids and I don't have time to read the fine print. Either offer the guarantee or don't but don't play games with your promotions.
Email for 12 free magnets. Shipping costs over 19 $? I asked if I would receive 10 separate packages and they said no only 1 package. This was the economy freight for less than 1lb package?
My daughter placed the order for Christmas photos on 11/30. It is 12/19 and order still not received. Impossible to get past the bots on the site to get a real response from a real person. Finally get to customer service. Call center in Jamaica and communication is completely unintelligible (like speaking through a tin can). I asked call center rep to call me back. She did. The line is better. Now on hold 15 minutes and counting waiting to speak to supervisor. For some reason, they cannot help because my daughter placed the order even though she used my credit card to pay for it. My daughter works in a trauma hospital and I cannot interrupt her. What kind of policy is this? When I track my order I find they were stuck in Atlanta for over one week and still there. The christmas cards will not arrive in time to address and send out. I will need a refund. I am still on hold. The supervisor just answered. 20 minutes on hold. I explained the problem and was disconnected. Now average wait time is 35 minutes. Issue is still not resolved. Here is the order number: **************062.
I've used Shutterfly for a second time now and should have learned my lesson the first time when I paid a hefty fee for overnight shipping and they refused to refund me the cost of shipping after it came much later than the 1 day I paid for. This year I ordered my cards well in advance of the holiday as I anticipated long delivery, so I gave myself ample time to get ahead of the game. After waiting over a week after the expected time I realized my package was lost and now days before Christmas I wasn't going to get any cards out. After battling customer service for an hour they refused to refund me. I'm stuck paying for something I didn't get? As a huge company shame on you! Your policies should include refunds for lost or stolen product. Amazon will issue immediately as do most companies. Shutterfly is not cheap either. $80 for 25 cards is a huge sum for someone in my financial position, but I wanted to splurge this year. I ordered 50 prints for $15 at Costco they are beautiful. I picked them up less than 24 hrs later and paid after I received them!
I just did a book project that took 3 printings and many hours of my time due to the inefficiency of shutterfly. Yes they did do it over but by the time I got the 3rd version my granddaughter had left and all the surprise was gone. I promised myself I wouldn't use you again but got a email with 5 item free offer. I should have known to delete it but didn't. It took me 4 calls to customer service to finally get it correct. When I went to checkout they were charging me shipping of 36.00 for 1 5x7 pad. 1set of 4 coasters. 1 cup and 1 deck of cards which was only 4 items not 5. And they were charging me for the cup that was to be free. I called to complain and was told that just the way it is. I told them I would never use them again after being a loyal customer and the guy said have a nice day. I only wonder how many customers they lose that way. What a way to run a company. Stay away or let the buyer beware.

Like that wicked fake woman and her spoiled brat entitled kids need more money while rest of us are struggling good job Shutterfly you lost alot of customers my family and my families businesses!
Shutterfly is mediocre at best. They are becoming more expensive and their shipping fees are out of this world. Its ridiculous they charge a covid fee now too. Everyone wants to get covid rich.
I ordered this plush fleece blanket for a Christmas gift. The printing was terrible! Some areas on the blanket, see pictures, were just simply not even covered with ink. The printing was streaky, and quite frankly simple AWFUL. Shutterfly customer service agreed, saying "WOW" when I sent the pictures along. They offered to redo the blanket. Was I ever disappointed when the 2nd print job was worse than the first! Couldn't imagine that was possible, but it was. Unfortunately the second blanket came in just days before Christmas. Shutterfly's solution was to refund my money. Like that was a satisfactory solution!?!?!? I spent considerable time choosing the photos, etc. Then having to wait on hold twice for customer service to resolve the issue. Lots of my time! Oh and they sent me a $10 credit for my next order. Which is never going to happen.
I ordered a similar blanket for my husband a couple of years ago from another on-line photo ordering company. It came out beautiful! Sadly that company is no longer in business.
Shutterfly was a big big disappointment. And I had to scramble at the last minute to think of what to give for Christmas.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this site for printing blankets.

I needed an order to come in by a certain week and they only sent me partial of the order I started to request it by this week but always avoided my question do not use shutterfly
This is one of the most horrible retail experiences I've ever had. I had four years of issues with them, and clearly I am a slow learner as they have completely failed me this year. I ordered Christmas cards and matching return labels later than usual as we were traveling, but still got my order in Dec. 3d.
Their site kept saying delivery by Dec. 14-18. But their information on my own order kept saying "being created", even as late as December 16th.
Today, I called them, for the fourth time this week, to insure my cards were expedited, as I paid for. They confirmed that and stated the delivery would now by December 20th!
It gets worse. I hung up and three minutes later got an email that my full order was cancelled. I called back, horrified, and again got another customer "service" rep from Thailand who I again could not understand and who told me he could do nothing to revive my order.
I'm filing a complaint with the BBB. Stay away from this miserable company. They do not deserve to be in business.
I ordered 2 albums for my sons high school Grad. The layouts and options are incredible. I am in Canada and I received my albums (from the US) in just 4 days! Incredible quality, shipping, packaging and gift boxing. There was an error on the cover of one album. I did see a warning sign when creating it, but could not see any text it was referring to. Blank text boxes don't print. I guess there was hidden print and in the final project, you could see a very faint name (girl!) on the cover! I was horrified. Sally at customer service was incredible. Despite it technically being my fault, it was a very difficult text box to find. She immediately sent out an entirely new album (with correction) and I just had to pay for shipping! SO appreciate such amazing customer service especially when it is for a special occasion coming up! Advice: don't ever leave a warning sign despite looking blank. Reach out for customer help! Thank you Shutterfly. I will be a repeat customer and spread the great word.
My experience is if your getting anything large, save your money. I had ordered a few 16x20 2 12x12 and one large prints. The two smaller ones came in fine and color was fine. The 16x20's and the large prints came in a wrinkled and ripped. They did reprint them at no cost but the ones that were taken at Canyonland and Grand Prism at Yellowstone were flat and the colors off. I have done the same pictures at home in a 13x19 and they came out beautiful. I just needed a bigger size. They responded quickly with the ripped and wrinkled email but when I emailed about the quality, didn't receive any response. Definitely would not order from them again
Ordered an 8 x 10 picture. And they cut out 2 people in the picture
Ordered a book and they put a picture in the crease of the book
It needs to be rectified but can't get a hold of anyone with Shutterfly
WILL NEVER USE SHUTTERFLY AGAIN
I repeat do not use Shutterfly
Horrible customer service
Will not let me upload other 8x10 picture
How convenient

I have made a couple of scrapbooks with Shutterfly and they turned out OK; however, they have a mobile app that is a total rip-off. They always promise you free stuff if you download their app... All you have to do is to pick the free items, put in the "coupon code" that indicates they are free, and then for pay the shipping... however, of the three times I tried to use this "benefit", two times the order form has "jumped" over the "coupon code" page of the check-out procedure (in other words... it didn't allow me to put in a code) and I've been charged FULL PRICE... and this is for stuff that I was only ordering because it was "free"... not something I really wanted. I am trying to contact customer service to get this last screw up fixed... but they make it hard. When you have a complaint, they send you a "check off list" and if your complaint isn't on the list, there is no way to register your complaint. I hate shutterfly (Unrelated to this stupid mobile app - DO NOT ORDER paper liners for your envelopes. You think you're going to get envelopes with the liners in place, but instead they just send you a pile of little paper cut-outs that you have to tape into the inside of the envelope yourself. The liners have really crappy strips of tape on them that are supposed to make them stick inside the envelopes... but when you remove the "cover" of the tape... it rips off the tape too). Not a customer friendly company at all...
I made a small 8x8 20 page book, I individually formatted each page but when I went to pay I was being charged a fee for their formatting. After speaking on the life chat, a representative referred me to an FAQ that answered my question so I closed the chat. I was then made aware that removing the fee involved extensive changes to my book. I then proceeded to ask via message on facebook if there was an alternative answer. The customer service was atrocious, instead of clearly admitting the flaws of the program that trap you into paying unnecessary fees I was repeatedly given round about answers, and generally not being helped. It is not clear that a so called storytelling format will garner an extra charge and that the charge will remain whether or not you use the formatting. As I had completely changed the format to suit my needs I thought it would not be to difficult to remove the fee. I was incorrect. After trying to do as directed and change the format to remove the fee everything was changed. While the original chat representative was courteous, the facebook response was not. I think shutterfly has poor interface and poor service over all. I will be paying the fee and ordering the book if only for the time I have already lost on it. I will never use the site again, just simply for fear or wracking up some other ridiculous fees that no one can help you remove without destroying all that effort.
I spent $600 on christmas cards. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Shutterfly would send out Christmas cards prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday. When I placed my order, they didn't have an option to designate when the preferred shipping date would occur. So, after I placed my order I contacted the customer service dept. via the online chat feature. I told the Rep. To not ship my cards prior to Thanksgiving. He said that he'd make sure to follow through on my request. Lo and behold, my christmas cards all arrived today. I paid extra and had Shutterfly send the cards directly to my people. Obviously, if the cards were sent to me directly and I was then going to send them out, it wouldn't have been an issue. But, I paid extra because it was worth it not to have to write down all the address and stamp all the envelopes. The Rep. Have me false info. The cards arrived way too early. This order was for my company, so the recipients are all of my loyal customers. They are calling me asking me why I sent them a christmas card in Mid Thanksgiving. My business partner, his wife and my wife and all pissed off at me that this order was screwed up. I go online to chat about it, and I'm told that there's nothing that can be done, and that Shutterfly "sincerely" apologizes for what happened. Apology not accepted!

Christmas cards came with a blank picture on them. I spent a lot of time designing and saving the order. The card has no picture on the front or back. I spent $122 on something not even usable.

A disaster! If I could give ZERO stars I would. My advice...use Snapfish or some other supplier.
There is a common thread in all of these review...POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
This is the second time I've placed an order through Shutterfly for a Christmas present. This time I ordered the gift three months in advance because LAST year when I ordered from them it took more than a month to get my package and I wasn't able to give it as a gift because it arrived AFTER Christmas.:(
This time it has been six weeks and I am STILL waiting on one of my items to be delivered. I cannot tell if it is disorganization on Shutterfly's part or if it is USPS, which I suspect it may be, but as long as they keep going through USPS I am NEVER ordering from them again. It's a nightmare. I'm going to just go ahead and buy my mom another gift because I don't know if this one will materialize by Christmas.
Mpix has much better quality anyway, so if you are ordering anything that has pictures that have been through post processing they are a much better bet. They're selection of personalized products is just a lot more limited.
My pictures came in VERY blurry. I called to get a refund and was hung up on TWICE. Had to wait 20 minutes. Finally got a hold on someone and apparently in order to get a refund you have to ship the photos back. It costs ALMSOT 10 dollars to ship back after my order was already 50 so i'm losing 1/5 of my money. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED
