I've created 27 projects over the past 15 years on Shutterfly. This includes 15 different photo books. Each and every time, I've always received excellent, professional customer service and beautiful books. I custom design all my books. There may have been a couple of times over the years that I needed Shutterfly to help with a mistake. However, they stand behind there products 100%. If you aren't an experienced design person then ask for help. Use high quality photos! Remember Shutterfly didn't take the pictures. The photo quality of books and cards depend on what you upload. Low quality photos will create poor quality projects; so don't blame Shutterfly for your photos. They will make what you approve. Start your project early enough to allow for help and receive book in ample time in case the book or cards need to be possibly replaced if it's the direct fault of Shutterfly.
I ordered three photo books. The order was processed, they gave me a delivery date and then only one book came in the mail. No explanation- I figured it was an error and called customer service. I was told that it would come in two shipments---Why? This makes no sense and was a huge inconvenience. Now I see all the complaints I understand this is not a one off. I will not use them again. Way too expensive for such poor service!
I think they have been pretty consistent the last 5- 6 years-- this year I ordered on 12/2- they sent out 12/7 and today is 12/20 and the cards are still not here. I spent 20 min with online person who said they will give me a credit for next year-- not showing on the account but maybe a card is coming? The tracking show UPS supposedly delivered to our local P.05 days ago but Postmaster looked and they are not there... So disappointed and not sure they will show up at all at this point. I will probably reverse the 105 dollar charge on my credit card and use Minted next year.
Tip for consumers:
Make sure you order in November!

No idea what happened to them. For years they were our go to. Last year my $200 order made in November never made it for the Holidays. This year the puzzle we ordered is unusable. The pictures wipe off the pieces leaving half of each piece white. Customer service is useless. Spent an hour with them only to get credit for exactly what we paid and no way to get a useful product in time. So extremely disappointing.
I've been charged $15 to $17 for shipping flat orders that should have been no more than $5.00, at most. This is how they make up for all the free prints. I switched to Walgreens and their shipping cost for an even larger order was $3.45. Go to Walgreens instead!
I've always used Vista Print, but my kids got me a gift certificate for this because they found it on Groupon. The calendar did not print out as it looked like on line. Heads were cut off, colors were off and photos were blurred. So disappointed. Will not use again.
After using Shutterfly for many years, we have noticed a serious drop in quality and customer service. We placed four orders this year, and three of them are wrong. This last one they will not fix because they are not admitting fault. The last line of text on the Christmas card is missing. They reprinted and the same thing happened. Their excuse is we were supposed to edit the text. If you are familiar with their process, there is a warning sign when the text does not fit. That plus the fact it looks fine on the screen, leads us to believe they are simply not caring anymore. Perhaps a case of growing too fast.
We ordered 110 photo cards for Christmas at the end of November. When they arrived, the print which was labeled as 11 point on the site was printed at 8 point. I contacted customer service and was given a free "redo" and expedited shipping. It's now 4 days before Christmas, and I'm still waiting—they're "expedited" shipping was sent via the post office. We will not be repeat customers.
Seriously hating on Shutterfly. They have so many gimmicks and "sales". They say you are saving on prints but then charge you an inordinate amount on shipping.
My last order, I specified, one by one, no white borders, no cropping and no Shutterfly filters and they got it all wrong. Their website makes it difficult to see how exactly you ordered your prints, but it is there. So don't assume that you ordered it wrong (I think that's the idea). Shutterfly did make it right and customer service was responsive. However, who needs the hassle? I'm looking for alternatives so that I never have to order from Shutterfly again.
I ordered an 8-Photo poster using Shutterfly template. Poster arrived in a 3 sided protective box which UPS not only crushed & bent, but also managed to puncture with a hole. As expected, the poster inside was compromised (lines through several photos where the poster had been bent). The quality of the poster and photos were good but the damage was quite visible. Shutterfly customer service was very easy to deal with. I explained the situation and offered to send photos of the damage. They are sending me a new poster with no charges at all. I am very happy with the product and especially with their customer service. I will definitely use Shutterfly again!
So those Monopoly Free Shutterfly shopping bags etc... aren't really free. I ordered 2 free photo bags. I spent a lot of time on the projects and had a $12.00 shipping fee which took almost 2 weeks to arrive. The small envelope didn't weigh over 1 lb.
Product is fine—cheap, so you get what you pay for. If you do order something, PRAY you don't have an issue. Their customer service is worse than talking to a brick wall. They provide zero solutions, even when the issue is 100% their fault.
Stay away, send your business to Nations Photo Lab!
I am so pleased with this company! They have outstanding customer service! I recently placed an order for a couple of customized coffee mugs for my father & step mother that were lost in transit and unable to be located. I was heartbroken that this had happened and contacted Shutterfly's customer service via chat. The representative was extremely sympathetic to my situation and assured me that another order was submitted but was unable to ensure the package would arrive before Christmas. I just received BOTH of my coffee mugs in perfect condition with two days to spare before Christmas! Thank you so much for an outstanding job! You have absolutely earned my business and as life time customer!
My family member's heads were cut off on 4 out of the 6 photos on my Christmas card. I know for a fact that's not how it looked when I edited the card and placed my order. I receive an email from Shutterfly saying there's a delay on shipping. No big deal, that's why I ordered them early. When the cards showed up, I immediately called customer service and the representative told me they would cover the cost to correct and re-order the cards, but it would cost me $9 to ship them. When I asked why (they're the ones who messed up my order and I already paid for shipping on the first batch!) he said he could get the price down to $7.53. I ended up paying the 7 dollars because it's the middle of November and I want to make sure I get my cards sent out on time.
I believe this is a scam they run on customers every year to get more money out of them and you can't convince me otherwise.
They deserve every bad review they get.
I ordered Christmas cards at the end of November. I spent well over a hundred dollars on cards and address labels. I received a shipping notification on 12/3. Today is 12/19. My items have been sitting in Georgia for days. I have no cards to send, cannot get a hold of customer service due to long lines, and am out more than 100 dollars. Never again! What a costly lesson.
Shutterfly has the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. I ordered photo calendars for relatives last December, specified that they should begin with January, and somehow they thought that meant I wanted 2015 calendars at the end of 2015. Their website should not be set up to allow for such a stupid default. It is sloppy, and worse, they blamed me for the mistake and refused to replace the calendars. They have lost my custom forever.
What a shame. I used to LOVE Shutterfly, got great customer service, and the orders arrived within a week. Last year my order took a MONTH to get here - missed Christmas. This year same thing again - my order is still "in transit" and the chat service has a question of 40 people ahead of me. Shutterfly has placed profit over customer service. The two are not mutually exclusive. I'll be finding another company for all of my photo needs.
Sure they will give you a discount and promise delivery by Father's Day and then absolutely not make their promised delivery date. We were Guaranteed 2 days before Father's Day! How about 5 days later when the party is over and the guests have gone home when the book arrives? My kids made the book and were not even here to see it. Also, the last couple of changes we made on their site did not take. It was the previous two versions we designed. How that can happen I do not know! I was looking at the book online with the new edits but when the book arrived it was an old version. Once they have your money, they do not care. This is my last experience with Shutterfly. I am moving on to Snapfish next time.
Advertise 5X7 cards, but they have trimmed 1/4 inch off every single card (so only 4.75 by 6.75) This might not seem like a big deal but multiply by the thousands of cards they make and it saves them a bundle while they false advertise. They achieve this by lopping off right and bottom sides, not centered.
Tip for consumers:
Beware that they are not selling advertised sizes. This will impact quality as they randomly chop off part of your picture

Buyer beware when ordering anything from Shutterfly. They say they are holding a sale, but then the items show up twice the price in the cart. You have to contact them to sort it out, which may or may not happen, because you can't get through to customer service.
It's been over a month now since my order was expected to be delivered. This is a Christmas gift and now I probably won't receive it in time to give to it's recipient. Your customer service is impossible to get a hold of. There's no pace to send an email, your chat service is always offline and by phone the wait times are absurd. This is the most horrible experience I have ever had with a business. PLEASE provide an update on my order asap!
I just deleted 10 years of photos and asked to close my account over a $22 shipping refund request. We have spent thousands over the 10 years and a recent order we paid for expedited shipping and UPS would not leave the package without a signature. I realize that this is UPS but Shutterfly employs them to deliver and when you pay extra you expect that the product will be delivered when promised this is on Shutterfly. Change carriers if they cant deliver. Shutterfly lost my business because they do not care about people.
I used to purchase all my photo related items on Costco, until they outsourced everything to shutterfly! What a nightmare. Their website is a nightmare to navigate. I tried numerous times to create a wedding album of 20 pages. I gave up after 3 different tries. I found "Snapfish" and had my album done in 30 minutes. Way more easier to use than shutterfly. Never will I ever use them again!
Ordered Christmas cards December 3,2023. Paid for delivery by December 13th. UPS alerts me that cards will be delivered by December 19th! Too late! Then I realized they overcharged me by $30! Contacted shutterfly and got someone from India who told me all he could do was offer a gift certificate for $14. That's it.
Tip for consumers:
Go elsewhere for Christmas cards!

In April of 2023 when I went on the site to finish organizing my child's high school graduation books, my account was void of all digital creations along with 19 years of our family memories. Shutterfly had sent 3 emails to an old email account communicating that all contents of client accounts would be deleted in March of 2023. Oh how I wish Shutterfly had taken into account the thousands spent over 19 years or at least waited for a reply... or a purchase? In hindsight, it was unwise to entrust 19 years (2002-2020) of digital memories to Shutterfly. The experience was heart wrenching. Sadly, Shutterfly replied with, "We sent notification emails."
I will start by saying I have always received great products from this company. However customer service is one of my top priorities and this is literally the worst experience I've had! The issue isn't being treated badly, the issue is you cannot get in touch with anyone to get your problem resolved! If you're going to have a large online corporation like this then you need to have to appropriate customer support!
I have created calendars with Shutterfly for years. This year they sent me a calendar with the wrong YEAR. It was THEIR mistake, as I checked my project thoroughly and saw the correct date on my account. They refused to ship new calendars for free until I made a big fuss, and asked for a supervisor. In the end, she told me I could get a "one time" free credit. I tried to explain that the fault was theirs and that if you return an item that is broken, you would get a refund, so the same should apply here. She did not understand my feedback at all and refused to acknowledge blame. Last time on Shutterfly for me.
