I've created 27 projects over the past 15 years on Shutterfly. This includes 15 different photo books. Each and every time, I've always received excellent, professional customer service and beautiful books. I custom design all my books. There may have been a couple of times over the years that I needed Shutterfly to help with a mistake. However, they stand behind there products 100%. If you aren't an experienced design person then ask for help. Use high quality photos! Remember Shutterfly didn't take the pictures. The photo quality of books and cards depend on what you upload. Low quality photos will create poor quality projects; so don't blame Shutterfly for your photos. They will make what you approve. Start your project early enough to allow for help and receive book in ample time in case the book or cards need to be possibly replaced if it's the direct fault of Shutterfly.
I ordered three photo books. The order was processed, they gave me a delivery date and then only one book came in the mail. No explanation- I figured it was an error and called customer service. I was told that it would come in two shipments---Why? This makes no sense and was a huge inconvenience. Now I see all the complaints I understand this is not a one off. I will not use them again. Way too expensive for such poor service!
I ordered custom ornaments this year. They came perfect in a nice little cloth bag. I have also ordered photo books in the past and have never been disappointed in the quality.
TERRIBLE SERVICE, BOOK NEVER ARRIVED. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM.
Below the story.
I have ordered a book for my wife's birthday and it was delayed 2x. I had paid express shipment initially with a date of arrival 1 week before her birthday so I could have time to have it in advance. 2 days before, I checked online and they told me that there was a problem so they would re-order the book with express shipping arrive 1 day before my wife's birthday. I checked again with them to make sure 3 days before and all was good. I checked the day before and boom, again a delay. Now I don't know if I will ever receive it and the quality of it. I am screwed for the surprise to my wife. Thank you shutterly for such a bad service
Updated review at CHRISTMAS: NO CHANGE. I would like everyone to know that while Shutterfly replied with lip service on a couple of review site they have done NOTHING! In fact, I have called and emailed and apparently they don't want my business. I'm going to try out Vista Print this year. I'm a reasonable person and I would have taken this post down or made a flattering edit but this is beyond - beyond - beyond terrible customer service.
Original review at HALLOWEEN:
I am SO disappointed with my Shutterfly experience for the second year in a row. My cards came with bent corners again. The quality of my cards is ridiculous. The front pictures carried over to the back of the card! The fold is incorrect. I've been on the phone for over an hour and their phone system keeps bumping me off. After 4 attempts I finally spoke with a professional customer service agent who properly noted my account and waited with me until I went back into the phone queue to be called back by a manager. I still haven't been called back. I've been loyal to Shutterfly and Tiny Prints spending $300-$500/year on Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day cards but today we part ways.
Loyal Customer since 2013
Tip for consumers:
They didn't stand by their 100% satisfaction guarantee and wouldn't let me return my cards that were printed with half the back on the front!!!
When your company makes calendars and the order goes out with the days of the week out of order the customer deserves the problem fixed. Not only that the new calendars need to be sent to the family members who received them as gifts. That is not the way Shutterfly sees it. After hours on the phone to rectify the problem caused by Shutterfly (not by me) I was told that I would have to pay for the shipping to my relatives. BUT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE COMPANY"S NEGLIGENCE.
I love the stuff I love all the freebies they also put out. I am shocked to see so many horrible reviews been using them for years and they have always been wonderful.
I have tried over and over to create an album on shutterfly's website and it constantly stops and says all snap can't do it. Their website stinks you can't make an album
Tip for consumers:
Go to CVS it's easier and you get a finished product

Tried to make a photo album but couldn't do it after several tries
I ordered a table top photo of my son and his wife! A part of my son's head was missing. I'm so unhappy with the table top canvas and I want an exchange photo table top
Just like any company, some people have bad experiences, some have good. Felt like I should share the good.
I have ordered from Shutterfly SEVERAL times to say the least. Most recently, I orders various print sizes of images from my honeymoon. I got all my photos, they were exactly as they should be, all the right images and sizes, EXCEPT one order of 2 12x12 images. The box had clearly been injured and taped back up, but not before putting a dent and a scratch in both images. I immediately took pictures of the box and the photos, emailed Shutterfly to explain what happened, and figured I would have to wait for awhile. I got an email confirmation for a reorder of those 2 images (no charge) within a half hour of submitting my email. Then got the follow up from their customer service apologizing for the inconvenience and letting me know they were replacing the photos.
That kind of customer service you can't get just anywhere anymore. Very happy with my experiences with Shutterfly, don't know that I will order from anywhere else.
Ordered 10 days ago and still waitng for 1 PHOTO Book! When it was Costco it would come in 3-5 days.
This joke of a company has terrible customer service and doesn't follow through on its promises. Good luck in a refund if needed.
1k prints Dull color Default crop is the top not center focal pt. All fotos = Sky. The peeps cut off
Tip for consumers:
They offered me a $10 gift certificate for future orders. They did not acknowledge why the crop would not default to the center focal point of a photo OR that there were no instructions to manually go into each photo upload edit tab to adjust the print area.
We have spent several hundred dollars on all sort of Shutterfly products over the last several years and have always been impressed with their service.
Unfortunately, this year is so much different. We question whether there are significant quality control problems with Shutterfly that may be signaling the eventual demise of this company.
We ordered our Christmas cards and 5 other items in mid-November. We were notified they had been shipped on November 22nd. After nearly three weeks of waiting with no cards in sight, we contacted Shutterfly. They refunded our shipping costs and provided a small credit to be used on a future order(as if). Their solution was to ship us another set of cards. When we asked them to sent them by expedited shipping. They refused because we live in Canada.
It is now December 20th and we still have not received cards from either shipment. Right after Christmas we head to Arizona so who is going to send out these cards? Oh well we can try sending them out in 2018 scratching out the 2017 displayed on the front page and aging the family members in the photos.
In the USA, the cards are shipped by UPS. Shutterfly, UPS also operates north of the border. We pay for your products in US funds so give us the same level of delivery service. If you are unable to do so then stop accepting orders from Canada.
It does not seem to make any difference whether products are shipped UPS, USPS, or Mail Innovations.
Merry Christmas.
After Spending 5 hours downloading 124 pictures into their photo album protocol and following their instructions, my entire album AND all pictures were LOST. The Customer service could not explain WHY. She only offered an apology. This company in- competent.
DO NOT USE SHUTTERFLY; THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING and this company is TOTALLY UNRELIABLE.

This was a matching game for my granddaughters I put in the pictures of my granddaughters and I did get about eight pictures with my granddaughters on them then I've got 14 blank cards
Tip for consumers:
Don't buy this game from them because you don't need a bunch of blank cards

They're supposed to be a matching game I'm going to be able to send my granddaughters like eight cards for the game The other 14 are blank
Last year I experienced a nightmare with Shutterfly. I ordered calendars to give my family members for Christmas. When they arrived they were majorly screwed up with the formatting - sideways pictures, misaligned frames. It was laughable bow bad it was. I called customer service and they fixed it and said they would rush ship the order. They did, and I received one beautiful calendar. Problem was I had ordered 11. So I called back again. At this point I had spent hours on the phone with customer service. They apologized and said they would send the remaining 10. And they did... but they sent the original screwed up ones. I called back again and after an hour on hold they apologized and sent me another shipment. Still screwed up. At this point it was after Christmas and the idea of spending another hour on hold wasn't worth the money I had lost so I just gave up. A couple months later they sent me a coupon for 10% off because they said they did a customer service review that revealed I had a poor experience. No kidding. Fast forward to this year. Apparently the awfulness of last year faded because I decided to try shutterfly again. Guess what? Four days past the original delivery date I find out the package was lost. I called customer service again, spent 42 minutes on hold only to be told that the earliest they could possibly forget the calendars to me is christmas eve. I ordered them in November. I am so over shutterfly that I will never, ever order from them again. I advise that anyone who values their time and effort avoids this terrible company.
Have used co. A couple times. Last year the photo album was great! We ordered the item, it was produced and shipped in under the time it was estimated. However, this time around we ordered our album over a month ago. It was produced and status of SHIPPED was only converted on the very last day of their ETA and when I inquired, the customer service agent advised that it is only an estimate on arrival and it should take a few more weeks for delivery and should have arrived latest by yesterday. I emailed them again yesterday and they said once it leaves their shop, that it was the responsibility of postal service (which I understand) and asked me if they should re-print and send a new album?
Of course... if it takes over a month to produce and ship a pkg and in their notes they consider it lost, why would you ask the customer if they would like a new album resent?
2 completely different experiences with this co. And 2nd time around has been a lot worst. Hope the new album arrives before another month goes by.
THE SHUTTERFLY GUARANTEE
We're not happy unless you're happy. It's that simple.
That its not true shutterfly, I received my 8×8 free fhoto book, and all the interior pages where in blank with no pictures and lots of backgrounds I did not pick, yesterday night I ordered the same photo book but I just changed a few pictures because is for parents, so I know for sure that i ordered the same thing, the representative from shutterfly says iI ordered a blank one, and now a blank fhoto book is in my projects that it says ordered in February 25 as the one I received. They are offering me a new free fhoto book wich anyone can get because is one of there offers, but can't waive the shipping which is what I need, I paid shipping for a free blank fhoto book and they are trying to blame me putting a blank copy in my projects, I was a very shutterfly faithful customer, but no anymore.
This is honestly one of the worst customer experiences I've experienced in SUCH a long time. Never before in my life have I had such an experience that has literally made me NEVER want to spend money at your business again and it would make me tell ANYONE who was interested in photo business NOT to shop with your business. And from reading other reviews online I'm sure that people who do their research before buying are being turned away by your terrible customer service.
The end of my order says "100% HAPPINESS GUARANTEED".
1) If you can't make a quality product then don't display quality products
2) Don't guarantee customer service if you can't provide customer service
Don't display a clear product and then send a product with an unrecognizable image: you can't even see the people's facial features.
And when a customer reaches out for your "100% happiness guarantee" don't be a condescending $#*! and tell them "pick a different image or you'll have the same problem."
Should have told me "pick a different business or you'll have the same problem."
What a joke.
Also they've been removing my comments with the photos of their terrible products.
Don't shop with this business.
FIVE TIMES PRODUCTION ERROR:
YES! You read that correctly, they printed my order the wrong time five times. After telling me they were going to watch it come out right, the pictures on my save the dates were crooked and not how I had them on my preview when I placed the order, I went for the third time when they told me to change the structure of the card, AGAIN received them wrong, and wrong again after that, MONICA a supervisor there laughed at me when I was complaining and almost in tears from how upset I was. She was a total $#*!. I have never had such terrible customer service in my life. Then when I wasn't expecting it, and after they refunded me my money, they sent me even more and those too were wrong. I HAVE FIVE $#*!TERFLY BOXES AND TONS OF ENVELOPES AT MY HOUSE AND WRONG SAVES THE DATES! OH MY GOD! CAN YOU SAY NIGHTMARE?
I ordered a custom photo book on Aug 15 and paid (more than the cost of the book itself) for expedited shipping so that it would arrive on Aug 22, since I was flying across the country on Aug 23 and it was a bday gift for a friend. By Aug 21 my order status still only said "order placed" - didn't even say "in production," and definitely no tracking number. I used the chat service to contact customer service and the person I spoke to gave me absolutely FALSE information, saying it had already shipped and was in transit (spoiler, it wasn't), and their communication was just so so so bad and confusing and all over the place, completely unprofessional, seriously like it felt like they were drunk talking to me (see attached photos). So I asked for the tracking info, and they said they didn't have it. None of it made any sense. Finally my husband called them and talked to a different person and they were able to tell us it hadn't shipped yet and they could change the shipping address so that it would go directly to my friend across the country rather than my place. All that said, this means I wouldn't get to deliver it to my friend in-person at her party, which made me really sad. Currently (today is Aug 22), my order status still only says "order placed" and the new expected delivery date is Aug 29. This leads me to believe they just like, lost my order originally!?!?!?! I don't know. It has been a nightmare dealing with this company and their customer service. Avoid at all costs.
Over the years I have made numerous Shuttefly photos books.
We recently returned from a fabulous vacation, and I spent the day organizing deleting and editing photos before I uploaded.
Once I started to design my book it was an absolute disaster. Photos would reappear on other pages, would disappear completely, causing me to have to reload them again. Site would shut down, and I would lose any unsaved work. I learned quickly to hit the save button after every five minutes and still lost work.
After spending half the day working on a book, with only have four pages done, I gave up. In the past I would've had my book almost completed.
Text box of changed so they are so small you cannot read the text until it has been imported onto the page and you can see mistakes. Then you have to go back to the text box and hopefully see the changes you need to make.
I haven't made a book in about six months, so not sure if this new upgraded program is the problem. I'm using the same computer I had last time. So today I'm going to research other photo book sites and change because I can't waste another half-day for for lousy pages.
I am extremely disappointed in customer service and lack of information regarding why it's taking over a month to get my 2 photobooks I ordered for Mother's Day and my son's graduation. I understand COVID-19 is causing delays but here is my problem with that excuse.
Today May 2,2020 on Shutterfly's website it is advertising order products today and it will arrive by Mother's Day. I ordered 1 photobook on April 26th and then another on April 27th both won't be delivered until June 10th. My husband also decided to order a photobook for his mother and placed his order on April 29th which has already shipped. All of these products were ordered under my account and all products are photobooks. When I inquired about my order I was told it was due to COVID-19. This just doesn't make any sense and I am frustrated with the lack of help. These gifts were suppose to be for Mother's Day and a May graduation, but I guess they won't be received until June!
They charged me for a product $89.00, and never delivered the product. It is now 4 weeks later and still refuse to credit me. This is THEFT. DO NOT USE THEM
