I've ordered twice now from Canada. Books arrived earlier than expected, and in the condition promised. Unique titles of spiritual books that I can't get at our libraries and have to pay top dollar for at specialized stores. I'll keep ordering and hopefully won't have a negative experience like some have reviewed.
Ordered a textbook for school. The delivery status says "no safe drop" "return to origin". I live in an appartment in a safe neighborhood. No phone call. No email. No attempt to contact me at all. So if you have a job or are a student do not order anything from this site. You likely won't be home when its delivered so they will just send it back. Waste of time and money.
I love, love, love thriftbooks. I found out about thriftbooks when I was looking for a book, but could not find one for a good reasonable price. As soon as I saw the options on thriftbooks, I shopped there ever since. I advice you to shop there. Your orders are also delivered quickly to your convenience. Thankyou thriftbooks for your reasonable prices and the best books ever. God bless!
I ordered 6 books using the "summersale" coupon code, I placed the order and it took a really long time to load. Then it didn't give me a confirmation page or anything, it just kicked me back to the main page. All of the items were still in my cart, so I became skeptical. I went to my account and there was my order number, but it said "# OF ITEMS: 0, STATUS: Pending, PRICE: $18.82." I immediately emailed them and asked about this, about five minutes later, I go back to my orders and there's nothing there! I just checked my back account and the money is taken but it's still pending. I don't know what to do now, since I can't find any other way to contact these fools.
The book that I received was filthy. It had a musty smell and was in bad condition. I WILL NEVER purchase anything from this company. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted this book. I should have ordered it from Joyce Meyer's website. I like things that are new, shiny and of great quality. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Well... this order experience was bad from all angles. I ordered a "Like New" book. I ordered a specific edition of the book, because it contained a study guide that I could use for a small group. The "Like New" book had so much underlining in it that it was hard to even read. The edition that I received was not the one with the study guide, plus the print was really small. So, all in all, this was the first time I had ordered from ThriftBooks, and it will definitely be the last time.

I ordered a book and got s wrong book because they realized the book I ordered was worth more than what they sold it to me. They have three other books listed on ABE of the same book for 2 & 1/2 times what I paid for it. They said will refund my money and said keep the kiddy book they sent me. They have upped the book price and are selling three of the same books from three locations at the same price their computer says it is worth. DO NOT BUY HERE. Now they say they dont have the book
Impressed is an understatement regarding ThriftBooks Chicago's customer service. So much so, that I am choosing to write my review before I have my product in hand (I will attach pictures & additional info when I do). I received a delivery notification 5 days before the expected delivery date. However, my package was no where to be seen (I haven't had any issues regarding missing packages since moving to this neighborhood). Frustrated, I contacted the seller on a Saturday evening explaining everything with a message to expect a response within 2 business days. Today, SUNDAY MORNING, I had an email from Heather in customer service apologizing for my not receiving the book I ordered and the tracking info for a replacement that they have already sent out. For the lack of a better term, I am blown away with the quality of customer service I have received.
I ordered a relatively obscure book from thriftbooks, but was sent a different title. I was then told the original book was no longer available. Hard to imagine the original book was sold to someone else within the few days following the order. I was then told that I would be issued a refund, but then was not. This is all very questionable business practice. After again following up, I was finally issued a refund. Best to stay clear of thriftbooks.
I have placed several orders with this company and have always
Had the product sent to my current address which was set as
Default. My last order never came. When I checked on the status,
This company sent the order to my old address (an address that is
Over 2 years old). At the time of checkout review my address was
Set to my current address. When I contacted support and
Explained to them what happened and explained that in the
Review it read my current address but they sent it to my old one, I
Was pretty much told I was out of luck. They refused to either
Refund my money or resend the product to the correct address. I
Even checked with residents of old address but they never even
Received the product. So not only did this company send it to the
Wrong address in the first place but it was never delivered period.
Tip for consumers:
Be weary when ordering. You may or may not get your order!

I wasn't able to use anything because I never received it and the company refused to rectify the situation.
I have ordered from this company a total of four times. The last two were fulfillments from another site I had ordered from. Long story short I have a text book about genetics, a book about child birth and two copies of the same book of poetry.
Tip for consumers:
Sometimes they'll be listed as a different seller when going through a third party site so be prepared for that sinking feeling when that teal package shows up

None of them. They were all the wrong books.
I've never had a problem like this with them before so that's what saves this review from being one star. That being said, this has turned me off from ever purchasing from them again. I placed my order on January 6th and never received a confirmation email, or a notification it had shipped, or anything like that. Today (January 9th) I tried to cancel my order, and they refused because it "had already shipped" on January 8th, yesterday. When I emailed customer service asking to let me cancel because I had no way of knowing it had already shipped, the customer service rep just reiterated that they couldn't cancel because it had "already shipped". The tracking link they provided me with simply says (at the time of posting this) "shipment information received". That doesn't sound like it's already on its way to me! In conclusion, buy your used books online elsewhere. I've had better experiences with both abebooks and alibris.
My items were supposed to arrive on the 12, when talking to some one yesterday apparently they changed the date to the 20th like I wasn't gonna look at my e-mails after and now there is no expected arrival date. I stopped replying cause they told me to contact them on the 20th cause that's when they said it was expected which when they said that they know they had just changed it.

nothing, nothing came
I ordered 6 books and they all came in time and really good condition. I read a bunch of reviews saying how bad ThriftBooks was, but I ordered my books anyways and I was very surprised, the books came in good condition and on time.
Thriftbooks is a great site to buy used books, especially in the USA with the free shipping. I am, however outside the USA, but they are still great books, only $2.99 for shipping per book. It's a great place to find books, if you cannot find them locally, or if it's not on other sites, or if you can't find them in a library near you. A lot of great information at Thriftbooks. Learned a lot. Thank you.
It seems from the reviews, this business is either a hit or miss, for me, it was a miss. I ordered a textbook for a course, and I am still waiting to receive my book. When I checked the order status, it was delivered to a DHL facility and was tendered to USPS, but five days later the status is still that it is tendered to USPS. I believe my book has been lost. I have never had any problems with delivery of textbooks for years from other vendors. To me, purchasing from Thriftbooks is taking a risk.
I bought a "very good" book that wasn't described anywhere as being ex-library but that turned out to be the case upon delivery. The stickers couldn't be removed without tearing the cover off. Be wary of the book condition that ThriftBook gives; treat it as 1 - 2 grades inflated compared to other sellers. If a book is described as "very good", it's most likely only "good" or "acceptable".

I ordered a book on 12/13/2023 for Christmas. It is now 1/12/2024 and no book and no update from seller, just a bunch of spam adverts from them. I will not be using them ever again.
I think this whole company is a scam. I haven't even sold as many copies of JOURNEY OF A TEETOTALING VIRGIN as Thriftbooks claims to have in stock. And they are undercutting my $14.95 price and claiming they are "used" and "collectible." My book is so new that only my friends have bought so far. From reading readers' comments, I think they are only claiming to have books and will never send anything unless they happen to locate a used copy somewhere. But take it from me, they do not have ANY of the books I've sold so far. This is a total scam. It has to be. And the fact that many people give their money and never receive a book back at all proves it. Amazon should bar them from advertising. Feel free to contact Amazon and say so!
It said acceptable for two identical books I ordered. Pages were ripped, folded and chunks missing.
I'm not allowed to return them because I was supposed to accept their rating.

We have been purchasing books for over a year from ThriftBooks. We discovered this company during Covid, when going to public libraries wasn't an option. It was for us, a LIFESAVER! We've bought about 35 books of different genres, condition ratings, and price values. We have never been unhappy with any of our purchases. They have always been delivered within the expected time frame, if not before. Many have come in better condition than we expected(such as a book listed as fair or good condition, yet being in a new condition, seemingly never been opened). We have been able to purchase many books for low prices, enabling us to buy some books we otherwise couldn't have afforded new, or otherwise allowing us to be able to buy more. We have nothing negative to say about this company and will continue to order and to recommend it to others.
Tip for consumers:
Free shipping on orders over $15.00.
Able to earn free books.
In our experience they have always been honest about any defects with a book (such as older books). I purchased a book that was 73 years old. It came in better condition than I expected, though they were upfront about the jacket and pages showing age.
Great for finding schoolbooks from early grades all the way up to university books.

I'll never order from them again. The books don't arrive as advertised. They show one edition of a book, you order it, it's a different edition. Happened one too many times. Never again
I purchased a book using the website thriftbooks.com. I expected the book to be used - reading marks, notes, bent pages that sort of thing. I was excited when the book arrived! "The Berry Grower's Companion" From the moment I opened the package I could smell heavy cigarette smoke. I gaged immediately. I can't use the book with a horrible smell. I contacted Thriftbooks and was told they don't inspect for smell and don't refund shipping. I had used them in the past. I will never use them again! I recommend you run!
I am a college student and I purchased a book that I needed for class. I paid for two day shipping, and now it has been over a week. I called to check on the status of the shipment, and was told that it is going to be another five days. I called customer service and can't get a human being to talk to me, customer service is HORRIBLE, and in the meantime I am getting behind with my assignments. I am beyond frustrated, and I think that I should be refunded the two day shipping charge, since it has been over a week... I think that the BBB need to be notified of this matter
(#*******)I ordered 2 books on the thriftbook with very good conditions. But that 2 books come with acceptable conditions. The outer layer of the book peels off. So the glue is useless. The other book, even the folds of the opening are torn apart so I need to glue it too. The edges are torn everywhere. Have also contacted customer service via the web thrifbooks. But ignored.
I paid $50 for a book that once got to me had a sticker for 12.64 on it.A phone number written in it and a page torn out.I will never spend a dollar with these mfs again
So far so good. I've ordered over 25 books from thriftbooks.
Pros:
Customer service has been very good
Got some great deals on some great books
Overall happy with the condition ratings
Cons:
Pricing - some books are priced WAY above what they retail for or sell on Ebay, not sure who sets the pricing but some books really make you scratch your head
Shipping - Slowww shipping. If you're on the East Coast expect some slowww shipping, quickest I've received a book is a week, most are 2 weeks and some even longer - don't expect Amazon Prime delivery.
A lot of the bad reviews on here are obviously privileged morons - the company isn't GradeANewBooks.com, it's a thrift store company, my god. Disinfect your books and move on with your lives. Overall, in my opinion, you get what you paid for and then some in most cases. Have had a few duds and 2 wrong items but overall very happy and it upsets me that people bring down this THRIFT store company with overly dramatic bad reviews.
