I've ordered twice now from Canada. Books arrived earlier than expected, and in the condition promised. Unique titles of spiritual books that I can't get at our libraries and have to pay top dollar for at specialized stores. I'll keep ordering and hopefully won't have a negative experience like some have reviewed.
Ordered a textbook for school. The delivery status says "no safe drop" "return to origin". I live in an appartment in a safe neighborhood. No phone call. No email. No attempt to contact me at all. So if you have a job or are a student do not order anything from this site. You likely won't be home when its delivered so they will just send it back. Waste of time and money.
My first time ordering from them my 1 book took over a month to arrive & when it did it was the wrong book. I am currently again waiting on an order that has not arrived & it's been over a month. Their tracking numbers for their packages show nothing on the usps website. Just seems shady & untrustworthy to me at this point. Will be looking for my books elsewhere.
Selected, bought and paid for a book by Brian Shul. Actually received a crappy cardboard calendar dated 1997. Threatened legal action, they have promised a refund - if this is not forthcoming immediately l will sue. This company is a fraudulent scam, never ever deal with them! Unfortunately l cannot give a zero star rating- would give a minus score if l could.
Tip for consumers:
Do not go near them - they are a scam
When my local library shut down, I thought I'd go crazy not being able to read during the pandemic. I luckily found this site and have ordered multiple times. Everything has been exactly as ordered, and shipping was pretty quick. I'll continue to keep ordering since I love to read, and am totally happy with the books and service.
This seems to be a scam they're running, I am not the first one to order a book and end up being delivered a different book, have seen these reviews after what happened to me or would have never ordered, will never order from them again.
I pre-ordered a book two months before production. Now we're well past the production date and it's on backorder for 90 days, but in stock everywhere else in the world. This company is a waste of time!
Like others, I wished I read the bad reviews first. I've had good experiences the handful of times I got a book on eBay. I thought it would be the same here. I bought a book rated "like new." That classification clearly states there are to be no markings of any kind in the book. I open it up and this is the first thing I see! Clearly false advertising. Just scummy. It's not a bad book, but like others have said, be honest. NOT the site for you if you are particular. Or like doing business on a handshake.
Tip for consumers:
Condition ratings not accurate. Apparently very poor customer service based on other reviews.

I just bought a book that was supposed to be in Like New condition. What I received is Good at best. I am extremely disappointed and a fool for giving them a second chance, for this isn't the first time it happened. I will no longer order from them.
I found a used beginner French book on this website. They didn't include any details about how extremely damaged it was. I was surprised at the quality of the book when I received it. Multiple pages were torn, someone had spilled water, pages are about to fall out and are hanging by a thread, and there's writing on numerous pages. I feel like I was duped. It seems like this company has a reputation for this. They must buy donated books for $0.25 then resell it with inaccurate information. This is was a completely unacceptable product.
I'm old fashioned and like real books you can hold in your hand. My kindle is a nice space saver, but from time to time I do like real books. This site has great prices on used books. I've purchased several and not had much of a problem. Selection isn't always the best, but many to choose from.
Hit and miss with what you get. Mostly miss. My last order was six books... 2 of the 4 were very good condition. One was a professional cake decorating book which was all marked up by the previous owner. I' done.
This was the third time I have ordered several books. I will not be looking at this site again. I gave it a good try!
I ordered a few books there and they all came great plus the shipping was free! I had also put my shipping address wrong, and I emailed them. An employee responded very quickly and fixed the issue for me with no problems! I don't know why a lot of people on here have said customer service was awful, but my experience with them was great! I really recommend this company! :D
I've ordered books through this site several times now. Shipping is low and I've found almost every title I've been looking for, even obscure ones. My Half Price Books isn't half as good!
This is a must shop for avid readers--I can't recommend it highly enough. It may be one of my favorite sites, period.
Did you know if you order *******@ThriftBooks and a package is lost *******@UPS before they hand it off *******@USPS for final delivery no one will track it? It is simply gone. Vanished. Poof. Never existed. Reconsider *******@ThriftBooks I want to *******@amazon but alas I had to use them.
Tip for consumers:
Avoid. Will cause heartache.

Be careful when ordering from this website. Often your last address you had your items shipped too is the not the default address like most modern online websites. If you have multiple address listed the one selected by the website may not be the current one. It is annoying and not entirely clear when placing orders thru the google app or online. Every other website uses your last shipping address so you expect that this would be automatically selected but it is not. I lost out on $48 dollars in used books.

Should be a 0. They took the money but the book never came. After a month asked again, they inform that it has been 31 days since the order and they only look into orders less than 30 days. When asked if there anything they could do, they kindly replied by sending the policy by email (it probably would have taken just as much time to look up the order).
I really like my books to look nice on my shelf so I go out of my way to buy the highest quality books even if it costs me a little extra. I only received my great condition book (out of several orders where I chose the highest quality option) one time. After a fourth sorely disappointing order I just stopped ordering there altogether. I was paying extra money and still getting poor quality items time after time. If it had been a one time thing, an accident, that would have been totally fine. But this just kept happening.
Hi Guys, I think I have to update my "review". The book was delivered on 5. 02. 2021 and it's in shape described on the website, so everything is fine. The only problem was delivery time, but I assume it was a derivative of a cheap postal service and not ThriftBooks *******@ThriftBooks: Apologies for my previous review!
I think they are awful cheaters. I bought a book, paid for it via PayPal on the same day (21.09.2020). The book has never been delivered.
Wouldn't recommend. Wish I could vote no stars. They don't let you leave reviews unless you buy the book which is stupid. What that means is if you have already read a book, and know everything about it...you can't leave a review unless you buy it. Dumb.
Over the years I have had books here and there that have arrived slightly damaged and I was OK with that. Lately, they have allowed too many terrible copies to be shipped out. This is the second in a month I have received (Before The Darkness Falls) with the cover almost completely detached. I seriously doubt I'll be using their services anymore after this mess.
I ordered two new books on November 30th. Everything seemed fine until I noticed the tracking information indicated a shipping partner. I've never seen this on domestic shipments before.
One item is stuck in Illinois with no update, and the other item hasn't even shipped yet. The shipping partner is a company called One Stop Mail (OSM), a media mail/4th class mail service.
4th class mail is reserved for stuff like magazines and other media. While it's perfectly acceptable to mail books this way, 4th class mail is in no hurry to get delivered. Thriftbooks shows "standard shipping" on their website, which reasonably assumes first class mail, not 4th class media mail.
Thriftbooks is deceiving people about their shipping methods. They simply say, "5-12" business days to cover themselves. If you're ok to wait two or more weeks for a book that might not even be delivered, then no worries! But if you're looking for timely shipment and delivery of Christmas gifts, shop elsewhere.

I never received the items.
I order 3 children's books (preschool board books) and one of the books marked "good" was not at all in the condition I expected. I understand these are used books but when I purchase a "good" condition book I don't expect that a section of the book would be torn completely from the binding and only held in tact because it's a board book so the pages are attached to each other.
I am not going to hassle with returning it but will attempt to tape it together and hopefully salvage it.
Just be aware that the condition may not be as described.
Ordered 5 Sudoku books and one was not useable. Of the 300 puzzles, only FOUR were not completed. As for the other books, they looked as if a child used them as scribbled books. Not worth it. I bought from Book Outlet in the past, and they sell NEW at same price as thrift books. You just have to be patient because you may have to wait till your book is in stock.
This site is great! I can get books in like new or great condition for less than as quarter of the price that it would cost to buy new. Plus they offer free shipping after a certain amount. I am a book hoarder, so this site is heaven for me.
I was excited to find a site (other than Amazon) where I could buy used books for my grandson. When I received them I was appalled at the condition of 2 of the books. They were terribly dirty with numerous areas of sticky food residue (or at least it looked like food and was various colors). Additionally one of the books that I paid $3.59 for had a price on the back of 99 cents. I feel as though I was ripped off.
I ordered a total of 6 hardcovered books, all very good or like new in quality. Only 3 books fit that description. One book arrived as a severely water damaged paperback (order summary conveniently doesn't state if what I purchased was hardcover or paperback), another 'very good' book arrived without its dust cover and instead had 2 very distinct water rings on the front cover! The final book has never arrived. I submitted 2 claims. One reply they said I'll get a new copy and the other said they were out and I'll get a refund instead since they no longer have the book. But I have no idea which book will be replaced and which will be refunded. They also left previous price tags on one book, showing that they bought the book from value village and then sold it to me for 70 cents more. Not my idea of a great gift that I thought I was getting.
Tip for consumers:
They offer 15% off code that you can give to a friend, that's how I was introduced to the site. If you use the site, DON'T pay full price. Find a discount code and spend over $10 to get the free usps shipping. It makes their poor quality not sting as bad.
