I've ordered twice now from Canada. Books arrived earlier than expected, and in the condition promised. Unique titles of spiritual books that I can't get at our libraries and have to pay top dollar for at specialized stores. I'll keep ordering and hopefully won't have a negative experience like some have reviewed.
Ordered a textbook for school. The delivery status says "no safe drop" "return to origin". I live in an appartment in a safe neighborhood. No phone call. No email. No attempt to contact me at all. So if you have a job or are a student do not order anything from this site. You likely won't be home when its delivered so they will just send it back. Waste of time and money.
I have bought from thrift books a lot recently and they simply have the best quality and prices. With the free shipping over $10, you can get 3 like-new condition books for only $15! And the like condition is truly like new. I have only had 1 problem with this site and it was when USPS lost my book but they provided a full refund within a day. I highly recommend this site.
Very disappointed with the product provided and with following customer service handling the complaint.
I received a gift from my sister, who went through an extensive search to find exactly what i wish for: first hardcover editions. She found them by the advertising description on thriftbooks.com.
What i got, however, wasn't what was advertised, but the same work of literature in a paperback, even with the previous price sticker for $3.99, when my sister paid $60.
She was able to recover $30 for the second faulty paperback version of another book. However, since I removed without thinking much about it, (it was a gift, after all, and NO note with order details was included in the package).
When addressed with the company rep my sis was told that since this small sticker with barcode is missing, they will not return her payment, although my sister provided them with her order details AND photos.
Ordered a book from them. Got here in fine time, and "correct" book was received but... wrong *edition*. So... kinda entirely wrong book. So buyer beware, you need to check the very very fine print to ensure that what you're getting is the correct book AND edition, as they lump all of them into the same entry, and don't split seperate editions into their own entry.
Edit: within 10 minutes of me contacting customer response, they completely resolved my issue. So, the caveat above still stands, but also know that they are on top of things, and you really do just need to be Very Discerning. But, for the prices available, you could stand to save a lot of money if all it means is inspecting your purchase for an extra 30 seconds. I will be checking thriftbooks.com again for whenever I need a hardcopy book. Just, I'll be a bit more cautious.
I bought a book that was listed as like new. When it arrive it had a very small tear in the dust jacket. Since I had a time issue and the tear was minor - and the price was very good even for a lower condition book, I was fine with it. I mentioned it in my review and gave them an average rating. Their follow up to address the problem was amazing. I would readily recommend them to anyone for their pricing, quick delivery, and care of customers if a problem arises.
I pre-ordered Alex Berenson's "Pandemia". At the time, Thrift Books was pricing it lower than Amazon, which was refreshing. I noticed that the book was released and people were discussing it for at least a week before I got my copy. There's no way for me to know if it's Thrift Books dragging their feet, or their supplier.
Tip for consumers:
Be patient!

I love books, and Thriftbooks is a way to buy them cheaply. I paid for 3 books and received 2 of them together within 3 days, and the third took over a week (shipping said to expect anywhere between 5-12 business days). There are a lot of negative reviews that people have posted, and I don't understand why. Customer service has been helpful when I've had questions.
I took off one star only because their opinion of "good" condition books is apparently different than mine. The good condition book I bought did all of the pages and they weren't bent in any way (which is good), but there were notes all throughout the book, which would make me think the book is "acceptable". I am curious what their standard for "acceptable" is then?
Tip for consumers:
There are some really good deals on this site if you are thorough in your searches and patient enough to wait for better deals. However, if you are looking for a specific/uncommon book, and you need it immediately, I'm skeptical that this site would be the most beneficial to you. From my understanding, the company relies many off of donations, so their stock in books will always vary.
I am usually very busy and hardly find time to write the review. It happened five month ago. I brought about 6 books for my novel class a week before my class started, but I did not get my book on my first-day class. Finding out I did not forgetting my apartment number on my address. When I emailed to tell them, they resent these books to me without any more charge and return some money for me for my fault.
I recently gave a 2 Star Review because I never received a book I ordered, but instead after 3 weeks of waiting to receive the book, I got an entirely different book. Today in the mail (2 days after giving my 2 star review) I received the book I did order "The Secret Wisdom of the Earth". I'm assuming this was a "gift" because it doesn't look like I'm being charged. They had initially gave me a full refund for the wrong book, and the refund was quick. I'll update again if I see I'm being charged without my knowledge, but I don't think they'd do that. P.S. The book was in pretty nice shape; it was an old library book from Pima Arizona.)
Their books do not come in the condition listed. Even if you choose "like new", you may get a torn, water damaged, moldy book. They are overpriced and have virtually no customer service. You can email them, but they have no phone number. All of their responses are automated, do not expect to have a live conversation with anyone, ever! If you read their reviews on Trustpilot they look like a great company, but try looking up their one and two star reviews to get a better idea of how they actually work. I was a loyal customer for a year, and order a lot of books, but their company has swiftly declined.
Tip for consumers:
Don't just read their glowing reviews, specifically look at the bad ones and you will get a better idea of how the company works.
I received the book that was described in good condition on their website, it did not meet my expectation of what good condition is, the back cover was only connected by about 3/4" so I had to glue it on and the binding cover ( back edge) of the book was torn loose about 3 inches. All corners of the book are worn and dog-eared like it had been thrown into a box numerous times, If I called this book fair condition it would be a stretch. Would not recommend this site and maybe they should post what their definition of the conditions they state.
I've been buying books through Thriftbooks for a few years. Good experiences. I especially like the feature that will notify you when a book you want becomes available.
Although the prices and postage have increased a little, it's usually still more economical than other places on the web that sell books.
I have ordered many books from ThriftBooks and I'm generally pleased, but lately the "condition" rating has been unreliable. My recent order included two books, both listed as "very good condition." When they arrived, one was very good condition, but the other one was only in fair condition. Since we pay more for the higher levels of condition, this was disappointing.
One of my friends isn't really good with computers, but I helped her use this site. It was easy and simple for even her to navigate, and she was able to find most of her school textbooks for a great bargain and they were in good condition.
This is a great website for avid readers. Definitely one of the best sites I've ever seen.
I bought a Ford shop repair manual and it was shipped to me in a timely manner, however, only in a plastic bag and given the weight it did sustain handling damages. When I opened the manual I noticed that an entire chapter of pages were sticking out misaligned at the time of factory binding and some even missing. After I had placed my order I received a confirmation email saying that I was being upgraded to a book of better condition. Well I thought how could these people send me a book that was manufacture $#*!ed in a plastic bag after I gave them money. And speaking of money, after sending it back to Thriftbooks.com received an email confirming they received it and I should get a refund in 2 - 5 business days. After 2 weeks I had to share this with PayPal and ask them to help. PayPal had to step in and gave me the refund.
Tip for consumers:
Don't trust the condition rating.

I bought the book from Amazon.
Misleading to have called the edition I purchased as "good " covers are supposed to be intact and there was no dust jacket - it should say if there is no dust jacket. It should not show it in the picture if it is not included. I have purchased quite a few books from them and this is my second purchase that was misleading.
Don't get me wrong, I'd buy the book for the price even if the condition was stated correctly. If the condition says "Like New" just make sure to be ok with "Used & slightly damaged." Again, if I would have seen the book I would have still bought it for the same price, but it was misleading.
Tip for consumers:
Don't trust the condition. The price is still worth it, but if you're looking for a Like New book, don't trust it.

I have ordered from this company several times.and have not had any problems. I have received exactly what I paid for. They let you know what condition each book is in. The prices of the books are more than reasonable and I will continue buy my books from them.
I ordered the book >10 days ago. Never came. I tried emailing their customer service email address. First email address came back saying they dint monitor that one. I found a different email address and they sent me a standard/stock response back saying if I still have a problem to let them know. Makes no sense-the whole purpose of my email is to let them know I have a problem. So frustrated. My son needed the book by today at the latest. Now I don't even want it. Thrift books stole my money,
Thriftbooks was easily the best American seller for us living outside the USA.
Their prices were unbeatable & shipping cost was $5, no matter the size/ weight of the book.
Now, they have changed for International orders
I was charged $30 only for delivery!
That means I would also have to pay my country's Import Taxes.
Only a couple of months ago I would pay for my order $15 (with shipping included!)...
Now that price has risen to $55 for the same $10-book.
So, no more Thriftbooks for us International buyers
I am deeply sorry for losing this great seller.
But if you are American or don't mind the new high International shipping rates, go for it!
Their customer service is great and they will issue a refund if your order arrives in a not-as-advertised condition.
Their book prices are phenomenal!
I won't invalidate anyone else's experience. Just came to share my two cents and some words of encouragement for Thriftbooks. I've been using Thriftbooks for a few years now. For the most part, a seamless experience. I received a book a few days ago with missing words in the print on more than one page of the book. (Most if not all of the books that I have received have been in great/pristine condition; I have not had an issue prior to this one.) I told them, they asked no questions--just sent a new one. Love Thriftbooks. Will never buy from anywhere else ever again as long as they keep it up.
I ordered Melissa and Doug pop books for my toddler. I ordered good condition but at check out they recommended that I get acceptable to save. 40 and quicker shipping. So I changed the order. Out of the 4 pop books, 2 had some of the plastic pop pieces broken so when he tries to pop it there is only a broken plastic dot. We also ordered 3 train books. 1 was suppose to be in good condition but it came with the cover cut in 1/2 and a few of the pages missing. I contacted the company and they sent another 1 that arrived after my sons birthday and also had a black moldy substance on the pages. The other acceptable books were very worn with 1 book having a name written on the front in permanent marker. I realize that these are used books but I expected the same quality that I would find at used bookstores. I was very disappointed in the quality of their books.
Really a lot of online don't ship out in 30 days and never received any correspondence that it did was watching for charge on credit card got busy and then it did get charged but never ever received. Will not be ordering again. Received a email from them saying haven't purchased lately from them. Geee I wonder why not.
You'll receive 60% of the books you ordered. The other 40% will never be sent, and you won't even be notified. I found this out when I ordered about 10 books from my company's reading list. Placed the order about 9 months ago, and started reading as they arrived. Fast forward to today, when I'm rechecking our reading list and distinctly remembered ordering those books. I check my Thriftbooks order history and sure enough, 40% of those books are missing. They do something sneaky in their confirmation emails by only giving you order numbers, and item numbers; there's no reference to title or author. So that you really have to do some reconciliation.

When I order a used book I don't expect a pristine copy. Over five years ordering from Thriftbooks, only one order was a disappointment. They have shipped promptly (remember, you are ordering from booksellers all over the world) and you accrue points toward FREE BOOKS as you purchase. Best of all, they are not affiliated with Amazon.
Reading the description of a book's condition gives a true account. They do offer new books as well.
Tip for consumers:
Read descriptions to avoid disappointment.

Love the ability to purchase books from this site... I've only had to contact customer service on one occasion in the past 5 years due to a book not being in the condition started. They immediately refunded my money AND sent me a replacement. CS doesn't get any better than that! Thriftbooks is a fabulous way to get books on the cheap and typically with FREE shipping!
