I've ordered twice now from Canada. Books arrived earlier than expected, and in the condition promised. Unique titles of spiritual books that I can't get at our libraries and have to pay top dollar for at specialized stores. I'll keep ordering and hopefully won't have a negative experience like some have reviewed.
Ordered a textbook for school. The delivery status says "no safe drop" "return to origin". I live in an appartment in a safe neighborhood. No phone call. No email. No attempt to contact me at all. So if you have a job or are a student do not order anything from this site. You likely won't be home when its delivered so they will just send it back. Waste of time and money.
I'm a big supporter of buying second hand items, especially when it comes to books, which is why I buy all my books from ThriftBooks. You're able to find most books you want for a really affordable price. I love being able to read something new while saving money!
Tip for consumers:
Make you you know what type of quality you are selecting of your book before purchasing.
I recently purchased two hard copy books. The books arrived promptly. They were priced fairly well, considering they were used. Yard sale finds and library sales, I'd pay around 1-2 dollars per book at most but these books are shipped so paying $5-10 per book is just ok.
The problem I see is the damage the ThriftBook's stickers cause when trying to remove them. I like to not only read but display my favorite books. The only noticeable damage the books from ThriftBooks have are where the stickers were. There were 3 stickers on 2 books! Two on the spine and a larger one smack dab on the front. All three spots are now marred thanks to the overly adhesive stickers.
I know removable stickers exist as my local library uses them. I suggest ThriftBooks use those instead. The end user would appreciate it greatly.
Why ruin a good book?
Tip for consumers:
If you do not mind one or two unremovable stickers slapped on your books, it's an ok place to shop. For people who like to display books, covers will be damaged if you try to remove the stickers or if you leave them, it cheapens the look of the book.

The selection is impressive, descriptions are accurate, orders are processed quickly, and customer service is outstanding. Because the inventory changes constantly, I have found that I can almost always find what I'm looking for if I keep checking back. On the few occasions that there has been an error with a listing or with a shipment, customer service has been fast, professional, and courteous. I am confident that I'll be treated well each time I place an order with Thriftbooks.
Ordered a book that I was very excited about. Book did not arrive. After waiting several weeks and continually checking the tracking, I checked in with the post office, who informed me that the book had never been shipped. When I tried to contact Thriftbooks customer service to ask what was going on, they responded by refunding me and telling me there was nothing else they could do. They refused to help me try to find the item or even to confirm that they had actually sent it. When I sent them the USPS message stating that the package wasn't sent, they just stopped responding altogether. Poor customer service, dishonest business practices. Absolutely do not recommend.
Tip for consumers:
Don't use it.

I've gotten some orders from here and was satisfied. My last order never arrived and customer service told me that there was a mix-up because someone else had bought the book before me and that they had given me a refund. But no one bothered to tell me that this problem had occurred and that my order wasn't coming! I complained that I should have been notified and they have stopped responding. They don't seem very concerned with keeping customers happy or even notifying them about their orders.
Tip for consumers:
Don’t be surprised if it never arrives
I orders 3 books and one of them was the wrong book I sent it back with a note with my info and also I sent 5 emails... it's been 6 months and I still haven't gotten any response. Or the book back. So with that being said they stole my money and they have no contact phone number. Sham
I first started using Thriftbooks as a college student in 2015 as recommended by a friend. This service saved me thousands of dollars in textbook costs and now as an avid book reader/hoarder. Yes, the books are secondhand and they need a little bit more TLC than others but I have never had a problem with the books I've received. A book with wears and tears is a book that has been well-loved! I am very grateful for Thriftbooks and the stellar service they have provided me for the past seven years!
Tip for consumers:
These books are secondhand. Don't expect that there won't be highlights, notes in the margins, worn spines, or dog-eared corners. "Like-new" doesn't mean "brand-new."

Went online to find a book in a series I've been reading, the Amazon website wanted an outrageous amount, so I used the search engine.
Thriftbooks was one of the results. They had the book I needed used for almost exactly 1/2 the price listed on the cover of the new ones, and a 10th of what was listed on Amazon at the time.
I was nervous, so I used PayPal to give me a layer of protection, but ultimately didn't need it. The book arrived today, perfectly readable though not likely to be mistaken for brand new. It took about 5 days to ship, and about a week and a half to arrive via usps. They included an inexpensive book mark, which are always in short supply in my house.
I have bought children's books from this site twice, and both times have Bern disappointed. The condition of the books was rated good, but the books should have been rated fair to poor. The jackets were missing, the corners of the books were bruised, the bindings poor, and two of them were personalized. None of these things were ever mentioned. I'll never buy from here again.
The worst experience I had buying online this book smells like rat and bad shape. It's like someone picked it up from the trash and send it to me. Please don't waist your money, I recommend to go to your local book store and just buy something there. My is going back in the trash.
The cost of the book was $23.39 and more than half the puzzles had already been completed! Said used when i purchased it but i figured it just wasn't packaged and maybe had bent corners. Who on earth would sell a book where the puzzles had already been done! Tried to call them and you cant get a hold of anyone. Tried email contact and got nothing back! Do not purchase from this company!
Ordered a book, Pet Semetary, book arrived with no dust jacket.
No where on the site did i see information that would let me know it was missing.
Asked to return and the site sent an email that showed an icon of a book beside the book title. This icon means that the book has no cover. How im supposed to know that... no information about icons on website, Also no icon when i look at the order myself.
So you have to purchase a book to find out if it may or may not have a dust jacket.
All in all, misleading information and not helpful website or staff
Example*
These pictures, harry potter book mentioned no dust jacket,
The Pet Semetary i purchased does not, how am i supposed to know that though?
I recently ordered three hardcover books from Thriftbooks. They were all stated as Very Good condition. None of them were. Two were acceptable at best. The last one was a used Library Book w/plastic sleeve broken binding, and what appeared to be blood on the cover. I was afraid to touch it. This one was so disgusting I wouldn't even donate it. It went immediately in the trash shoot. Sad because I looked forward to receiving these three titles and now I am not enthusiastic to open and read any of them. I like to buy used hardcovers but I expect when I pay for Very Good condition they will arrive that way. They lost me as a customer.
I used to love ThriftBooks and ordered many books from them to Australia. An amazing range with great service. However, in the space of two months, the postage cost went from $5 a book to $9 a book to $15 per book! It's simply not worth buying books from them anymore and will be cancelling my account. Very disappointing and feels like they're price gouging! Bye bye ThriftBooks!
Thriftbooks has so many out of print novels as well reprints of really old non. Fiction books. The reprints for example had "Homes of the New World" by Fredricka Bremer published in 1853. Some books show signs of age, but are still readable.

I bought 6 books from them. 3 "like new" 3 "very good". The very good were OK but the 3 "like new" were not. I think they do not know what "like new" means. They were dirty, with writings, torn or damaged. I can say that 2 were "very good" instead of "like new" and one no more than "good". I will not continue to order to this website. I put 2 stars because the customers service was fine.

I recently purchased two books. Upon their arrival I found them in less than good condition. One in particular was a "picture" book, but it was not described as such. They don't give refunds. Upon purchasing the books, there was nothing that explained to me that I was unable to return the books for a refund.
I sent away for this Bro Decoder book with ring. The book is used with scribble marks throughout plus the answers in the book has been written all over! This book suppose to come with a decoder ring which has been ripped out!
The books that i purchased were described as 'good' condition. They were definitely not instead they were in very poor condition. Also the books stink really bad. Anyone is much better off buying books from consignment stores or even brand new.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this site for buying books. You are better off going to a consignment store or just buy a used book from amazon.

I kept everything just so I dont have to deal with this business again.
I have ordered several books from Thrift Books and have never been disappointed. I look for a decent reading copy and don't mind if it is a previous library book. The books I have gotten have been even better than described. The price for the books have been low compared to the other book sites. I always read the description of the book before I order. Haven't been disappointed yet. I keep coming back to Thrift Books.
Tip for consumers:
Read the description of the book you want to order. If you are not sure, ask questions.

I have only had two issues with TB one issue was a book I received but turned out to be written in too much, so I sent it back and was able to get the same book in better condition. The second issue I had was a book I purchased that was labeled incorrectly I contacted customer service and they responded right away I was issued a refund no problem. Even with these two hiccups I still have purchased my books through TB. I can easily track my orders and know that I can get a better deal here, I price compare on many sites and always return to TB. Majority of my collections come from here anyways. I am pleased with how customer service has taken care of my issues promptly and with no problem. I will always be a customer!
While we were a little apprehensive based upon the reviews of ThriftBooks we had read, our experience with them has been very good. Over the past couple of years we have ordered several used books from them Each time the order arrived on time and the book was in the condition described.
I have found that Thrift books is the most "cost effective" way to buy books for my pleasure.
The prices can't be beat, and their service couldn't be better. I am amazed at how well-treated
The used books look when they arrive. They have an unchanging customer in me...
I have ordered several books from thrift books and have been delighted, up until my most recent order. I ordered four books and only three arrived -- that isn't the main issue, though, the main issue is one of the books, "Tom and Jerry's Party". Nearly every page of this book has been scissored up by someone, then was sold described as being in "good" condition when it isn't even in "acceptable" condition. This was for a gift and I am very disappointed that someone would send any product out this way, especially after claiming it is "good."
I would love to leave a review for the seller on the thriftbooks site itself, but can't find a way to do so, so I'll let it out here. Though my other books were fine and other orders have been great, this experience could make me hesitate to order from here again.
Reading some other reviews im not sure people realise this is a 2nd hand book store. I ordered 4 books for really good price, the condition I recieved them in was basically library quality, used and been sitting around for a bit but totally fine. I'm in Australia and was really easy to follow the tracking for each book to know they were coming. Very happy, very easy, great price, 2nd hand books
