I've ordered twice now from Canada. Books arrived earlier than expected, and in the condition promised. Unique titles of spiritual books that I can't get at our libraries and have to pay top dollar for at specialized stores. I'll keep ordering and hopefully won't have a negative experience like some have reviewed.
Ordered a textbook for school. The delivery status says "no safe drop" "return to origin". I live in an appartment in a safe neighborhood. No phone call. No email. No attempt to contact me at all. So if you have a job or are a student do not order anything from this site. You likely won't be home when its delivered so they will just send it back. Waste of time and money.
I ordered 4 books that were supposed to be in one package. The first time I got one book out of 4. I contacted them and they said they would mail the remaining free of charge. Today I only got two of the 3. I'm very livid and am planning not to buy anymore very dishonest company.
I really love this website because they have all my favourite books for super cheap BUT im in Australia and the postage is INSANELY expensive its not even worth purchasing. You can have it cheap and all but the post just makes up for letting the books be cheap. Please make the international shipping cheaper! Im dying to read Warriors!
This is my third revue... customer service said for me me not use tracking. But wait the full 14 days to se the results... i have sold a ton of things on the internet and tracking is a customers way of knowing all is ok... i was scolded for asking where my book was at customer service... there are other sitses on the internet... only use this site if you don't care about your purchase... i have had seven problems with them... and when you are disabled and on a fixed ret income you don't need grief
Tip for consumers:
be careful
Bought 2 books, "as new" condition rating, delivered in reasonable time and in decent condition. No noticeable blemishes, no torn/folded pages, covers in good shape. Waiting on a second order and looking forward to another decent experience.
Tip for consumers:
Seen complaints about book quality ratings and missing dust jackets. They're USED, for crying out loud. You want new, pay more somewhere else. The prices are great and the books I've gotten were intact, what more do you want?

I have a problem with a lot of the negative reviews I've read here. These are used book folks! If you are expecting a brand new, blemish free book, then buy one on amazon or better yet go to a private bookstore. I have bought dozens of books from Thriftbooks and they have all been acceptable, some looking fairly new. I buy these books to read not as a collector.
I ordered a book from them that was listed as a Hardcover former library book.
I personally like collecting certain books that have been library books.
When the book came it was a paperback, had nothing on it to show that it was ever a library book. There was writing on the first page and clear signs of liquid damage to the bottom and right corner of the book.
When I sent pictures and the original listing showing they defrauded me into buying this book, I received a copy and pasted response about returning it but they expect you the buyer to pay to send it back even though they lied in their listing.
Now they refuse to respond to my emails, do not buy from Thriftbooks they are definitely scammers and lie in their listings about the type, condition, etc of the books they sell.
This company is amazing and their rating of books is excellent! A book always arrived in the condition they stated and quite often better than the condition that was stated. I have never been disappointed and bought more than $200 worth of books from them.
I've ordered quite a bit from them and haven't had any problems. Shipping is slow, but it's as to be expected. Book qualities are as listed and prices are cheap. It's a good route to choose if you want to save and aren't in a rush to receive your packages (that's if you don't pay extra for faster shipping, of course).
Ordered back in April, only ever received one email and, after waiting for a long time, admittedly forgot about it. Remembered the other day and thought it was weird that it's taken so many months to arrive, only to look into the tracking and see it had been "delivered" months ago when I was at home 24/7 on a COVID-related provincial lockdown. Contacted customer support and they said since it's been longer than 60 days, there's nothing they can do.
Not entirely convinced this website isn't meant for scamming people.
I ordered three class sets of books, 120
Titles in each set as advertised on EBay. I received 3 individual books that were not even in the sets ordered at a value of $1.98'each. My total order was approximately $160. I understand that mistakes happen but when I called customer service they were not willing to go the extra mile to find the books I ordered. Fortunately I ordered through eBay and was able to get a refund. I was very disappointed with the whole situation as I am a teacher trying to get books for my students. The customer service agents were courteous but lacked empathy or initiative to make the situation right for the customer. I would not make a future purchase from EBay from this vendor based on my experience.
PayPal link wouldn't work after multiple tries. "Chat Now" on support page doesn't work. Unable to delete my account. Does this tell (smell) you something? No time or energy to spend on time wasting scam sites. If they don't know how to do online business, they don't deserve my order. I see there are numerous 1-star complaints. Strongly suggest that users check out ThriftBooks BEFORE doing any business with them.
I don't get why they are called thriftbooks. They have beat up paperbacks for sometimes 8x the cost of new. These are books in print. This makes no sense. If you want to be thrifty, just go to a local new book store.
There have been a few hiccups in my history with ThriftBooks but ultimately they are one of the only used bookstores online that are worth anything.
Thrifting books can be a mixed bag. So, Thrift Books is no different. For the most part, their quality is good; great variety of books, good rewards system, timely shipping and fantastic customer service.
My only advice is that you take their listings with a grain of salt. Sometimes you'll get a book in better condition than it's listed, sometimes you'll get it in lesser condition and they don't always like to list if it is a former library book or not.
Beware of allergies, too, when purchasing. I have received smokey smelling books and occasionally ones with pet fur in it. Which is gross but also not altogether surprising because such is life.
But! Always keep that in mind.
I ordered the Ashely Book of Knots. It's a very large, thick book.
They shipped it in a bag. This exposed the pages to significant bumping and crushing during shipment, meaning that literally every single page has been damaged in shipping.
I'm manually straightening and flattening each and every page.
I will never order anything from these shysters again. If you don't respect your own product, you have a real ethical problem being in that industry.
I was a regular customer, purchasing several books and DVDs each month. I was very happy with thriftbooks, rarely having problems, which were always promptly resolved. However, in February of 2021 our family noticed that thriftbooks was openly promoting authors based solely upon the color of thier skin. We were appalled at the open and unabashed bigotry. When I wrote to voice my concerns, I was brushed off. We canceled our account. We simply cannot allow such hatred and bigotry to exist in a civilized society. We now exclusively purchase our books from local small town independently owned bookstores. Goodbye thriftbooks.
Tip for consumers:
WARNING: racist policy of promoting certain authors by race.

I've been using Thriftbooks for years now. I've purchased hundreds of fiction and non-fiction books. So far, I have been very happy. Prices are cheap. They are honest - they clearly indicate the book conditions. Besides, the shipping cost is reasonable - since my purchases will be shipped internationally. There is a great offer for US buyers if the purchase exceeds $10. Your shipping will be free. Furthermore, for every $50 purcase, you'll get a $5 coupon which us usable during your next purchase. Highly recommended.
I bought a book for Thift Books on 3/9/23 at 3.38 pm. I even pd for it to get to me in 6 days. This was time enough for me nephew's birthday party. Iit is now 2/18 /23. I still do not have the book. I contacted the company a numerous times. They went ahead and refunded my money. I think they did this because they knew they messed up and did not ship it right. You can not buy this book brand new. You can only find it at used book stores. It was a really frustrating to me that this company did not even care that they messed up so bad. They did not even apologize or anything.they lost a good customer. I will not do business with them again

If anyone pays for faster shipping tell them to pay attention

Bought a used book that I have not gotten
I have used this site many times. I have always gotten what I ordered and I was happy with the price I paid. Then, I get a book I didn't order. The packing slip is for someone in another state. I can't reach anyone on the phone, so I email. I'm told I have to return this book with an original invoice, etc. Fine. But I have to pay to return a book I didn't order. What? So, I told them that this wasn't my fault and that I found this to be horrid service. I asked if they were going to send me the book I did order. I received a very lame reply that they can't send it to me now. They will reimburse me for the postage if I email them a receipt with the tracking number. Well my confidence in this going correctly is less than zero. I will never use this place again. Ever!

Don't. You may be ok, I was for a time, but when it went wrong, it was bad.

I have ordered from ThriftBooks several times, typically ordering 5-6 books at a time. The books are always as described and very affordable. If anyone has encountered any issues with the quality of their books, I would guess they didn't read the description. Also, the workers ship the orders very quickly and you're able to track the order. I just had another delivery and all 5 of my books are as described and arrived very quickly.
Ordered a book and realized immediately after submitting the order that it was the wrong book. Contacted customer service within 10 mins to fix the order and allow me to order the correct book but their policy is against it. I've never had a company be unwilling to correct an error like this.
Books (many ordered because they are such good value and cheap postage rates) arrived in good condition. Thriftbooks seem to have all the titles of books hard to find elsewhere. When one book did not arrive due to postal delays, I received a prompt and courteous reply to my query and an immediate refund on the book. I couldn't be happier with their service.
I have bought books off and on. Covers/binding not as good as it once was, coming torn now for a Good. Shipping/tracking is basically non existent. All they tell me is that my book is on the way. No estimated date of delivery. I'm waiting for a book now, and have no idea what the target delivery date is. I buy from Thriftbooks because hopefully they are not part of Amazon.
I had an item that was routinely needed on Sundays, I ordered it from thriftbooks. After it was two weeks late, I emailed support to find out why I didn't have my item.
Do to a stocking issue, they refunded me my payment weeks ago. They did not update my order on their page, they did not email me. I was waiting for something they had decided to never send.
Customer service ignored me when I asked if I could get the 2day shipping free to make up for it. Now I still don't have an item that I need again tonight.
They don't take care of their customers. Trusting them hurt my business, they are completely misleading.
They also spam your email inbox with offers. The unsubscribe button doesn't work.
You never know what you'll get in an order from thriftbooks! It would be foolish of you to assume that you would get what you ordered! I ordered 4 games on disc. Two of the boxes described what I wanted! But inside was some other game, unplayable by me. So I'm out luck. When I called customer service they apologized, refunded the discounted price I payed, but did not attempt to rectify the issue. "There's a good chance you would get the wrong discs again" WTF? So they know their own service is unreliable enough for even them to order from. THAT SAYS IT ALL.
I ordered a book. I never received any shipping tracking number. I got refund in my card after few days. I pinged them to see what's going on. They said they canceled my order because they thought it was suspected as fraud order. Then I checked the same book in their website and it showed out of stock. I think this book was never in stock. The fact that it showed out of stock right after they refunded means, either it was never in stock. This is so unprofessional. I hope this website is not a scam website just to steal our credit card information. Be careful guys. Even if this website is not a scam, then they are not professional. The show the books that are not in stock as available. So unprofessional and frustration.
