I purchased a TOMTOM 6250 Go Professional in November last year and have had trouble ever since I bought it. The aftersales has been appalling from TOMTOM. To date I have sent over 15 emails that remain unanswered. It is no surprise that there are no telephone contact details anywhere to call them.
The device is very poor and doesn't live up to expectations at all. The maps are out of date and the routing is totally unreliable.
Having now spoken to a number of fellow drivers it appears that the service levels I have experienced are the norm. So beware TOMTOM are garbage.
I have to say that the retailer wasn't that much help either Truck and van gear via ebay.
1. Mine will not give voice directions.
2. the screen will not follow me as I travel. I seem to have to push an arrow whenever it goes off screen. I think it is very dangerous to use. Like texting while you drive.
3. The package says to call an 800 # for voice support but when you dial that number you are put into a circle and re-directed to a website where you can get answers. But when plugged in I rarely get an answer llike 'get the gps screen to follow me' or How do I get voice directions. It's really frustrating and a Warning! It says call this number to return but you CAN NOT return if it has been turned on. I emailed them and am waiting for some kind of reply. If I hadn't even opened the box they would charge me 15% and postage to return. So it seems I am stuck with this tomtom which I am fearful to use on the freeway or in heavy traffic. (I got it from tomtom direct and sure wish I would have used amazon as they have such a good return policy. My bad I guess. Costy tho!
I purchased a TomTom device on-line, 12 months ago.
From the outset, I have several serious map problems. You would have expected these should have been fixed (under warranty) over time, especially given the steps I have taken, and the results. IE:-
- Map Correction (many times) via TomTom web-site. This should not have been necessary as there have been no changes (just the initial TomTom errors). - Nothing.
- E-mail. - No e-mail address available)even on the 'Support(?) Page.
- Phone. - No number quoted.
- Letter to National (Australia) Office. - No reply or acknowledgement.
- Letter to Head Office (Amsterdam). - No reply.
While still under warranty, a piece from the back of the device, detached. This was also reported in some of my messages. Obviously, I had no response about this.
As a result, I am left with a product which is virtually useless. I have taken all steps available (or should be) for recourse.
There are only 3 more things I can do -
1. Throw the 'junk' in the rubbish.
2. Strongly urge others not to buy a TomTom product. Despite glowing references on TomTom web-sites, there are many more 'negative' independent reports on several review pages such as this.
3. Buy an alternative product (say, Garmin) or use my more efficient smart-phone.
This is a Disgusting, Deceitful, "Don't Care' Company.
I am getting the runaround from their so called customer service concerning a recent order. The internet page says the unit I ordered is in stock, but they have shipped an alternate unit. Because of the current 'crisis' they say they won't accept returns even though the mistake is their fault. I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A TOM TOM UNIT, NOR WILL i RECOMMEND THEIR UNITS TO ANYONE EVEN THOUGH THE UNITS THEMSELVES WORK PRETTY WELL. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AND THEIR CUSTOMER 'DIS'SERVICE. THEY'RE NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION.
I was really optimist when I purchased tom tom via 1535 GPS. The device is great, but I became fully frustrated when I tried to update the maps, it gave me hard time with no real positive results. The XXl series, from which I owned the one before, was very practical and easy to update. It looks like tom tom has been complicating its updating procedures. I am not happy with my new Tomtom via 1535 GPS.
Did you pay attention that rarely if at all there is no reviews responds by the TomTom representatives? Do they care at all about their customers?
Some time ago my watch fell face down and it's screen had been cracked. Addressing the company's support shows there is no option of repair.
Here are a quote of an answer I had got from the company:..."I am sorry to hear that the screen on your watch has cracked. Screen damage in not covered by the warranty so we would charge a standard fee of 85 Euros.
If you would like to go ahead with this, you would need to ship the watch to our repair center at your own cost and provide us with a UK address for the return of the watch".
So TomTom is trying to resale the same product?
They have a policy of no shops to repair their products and the hell with the customers.
Having used a TomTom One XL Sat Nav for over 8 years I decided it was time to buy a more up-to-date version and bought a TomTom Via135. Out of it's box I followed the setup instructions to the letter (or should I say graphic) but no way would the device connect with the software that you download from the TomTom.com site. I returned it to the local (well known national) store where I had purchased it and after concerted effort by one of their staff it was proven it wasn't only me who couldn't get it to work so they replaced it.
Without going into detail the same thing happened all over again and once more the staff at the store did their level best to make it perform but without success so they refunded my purchase without question.
The point is; neither they nor I located any useful guidance or direct means of contact with TomTom which has resulted in two returns that will stop me either recommending their product to others or considering TomTom as a Sat Nav again.
TomTom is a fraudulent company. They do not provide Lifetime Free Updates. They do not answer calls or respond to emails. Do not buy TomTom products.
I have owned 4 tomtom Gps units. Last one is a Via 1505 TM. TomTom says my lifetime maps has expired. Ok, my lifetime is still alive.
