Bridget and her family were very kind and welcoming! Rosie is a delightful kitty, she loved laying by in the pool and soaking up the sun, and in the evenings we cuddled and Netflix. Highly recommend this house sit as it is very comfortable, close to shops and not far from the centre of Auckland.

I wondered if it were worth joining Trusted Housesitters (in terms of the upfront payment). A year on, the answer is an unequivocal "yes". I've met some great people, seen some fabulous things, and hopefully helped some owners alleviate their fears about leaving alone their favourite friends. This is a well-run and organised website - I'd heartily encourage people who are in two minds to join.
We have used Trusted Housesitters for pet sitting for ~10 years... and ALL our sitters have been superlative. Of course, we vet applicants and think we choose wisely. Not only have our sitters maintained our home/garden, but our cocker spaniels have fallen in love with each couple we've engaged--likely because we have chosen active people who have treated our pups to various outdoor adventures. Our most recent sitters even took our pup to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus! The website is fairly user-friendly and when I have encountered a minor issue (e.g. Something wouldn't open or I had a navigation question), I have always received an email response within 48 hours.
We retired two years ago and decided that joining TrustedHousesitters would be a great boost to travel. In addition, we are a complete dog crazy pair, but have now increased our repetoire to include cats, goats, birds and chickens. We have met terrific and welcoming people and travelled to some fabulous places. Animal lovers have a special "kindness" about them and that has been extended to us. The structured approach to the organisation, careful attention to detail, security, emergency management makes the process very straight forward. The feedback and review step keeps accountability at a premium. One of the best post retirement decisions we ever made.
I was originally very skeptical when my friend enthusiastically recommended THS to us. We were leaving for two weeks and had no solution for our two cats. The idea of turning over our home and pets to a total stranger was troubling. Reluctantly we signed up. Within hours of posting our request we received an offer from a veteran house sitter with 22 5 star reviews. We met her on line and immediately trusted her. We normally pay a teenager to feed our cats daily. The cat survive. But with THS, some one is with them 24/7. They thrives. Our sitter sent us pic daily in which they were clearly happy. Our only worry was that they would be sad that we had returned. THS is the BEST solution for pet owners that travel.
We have had very good housesitting experiences, largely due to the homeowners' friendliness and their efforts to make us feel valued. Trusted House Sitters website makes it easy to have a positive, win-win relationship with each other.
We have had six great experiences with TrustedHouseSitters. It is like any other matchmaking service; you must read the reviews others have left for either the sitter or the pet owner. And following up with honest reviews improve the site and gives notice to future sitters and homeowners. Emailing or videochatting prior to the match provides extra confidence that it will be a good match for both parties. I email or text a photo of the pets every few days to give the pet owner an update. Obviously cat sitting is easier than dog sitting, so if you're new to this site you might start there.
The mobile app is not as handy as the website but is helpful "on the go."

No longer are the days where we scramble to find anybody willing to housesit and care for our animals! Once we signed up, there were plenty of applicants for each sit we needed and we've made some friends along the way. Everyone who ever stayed at our home has been super easy to communicate with, easily trusted, attentive to our needs, and gracious. This community saved us so much stress and worries. Great website which is being continually improved and now they have an app. As house and petsitters full time, the welcome guides are really helpful so we know what to expect at a house sit. Site shows clear photography and is easy to navigate. With twice daily updates there is always an option for sitting.
