I heard about this company from my friend who works from her laptop and was traveling the world living in peoples homes taking care of their pets for free she wasn't getting paid and the people didn't have to pay so everybody wins before anything even happens!
We take an annual trip back east for about three weeks every summer and our house needs serious TLC we have many pets and a large property. I put our ad up at 8 o'clock pm one night and the next morning I had 14 people interested! It was a great relief to know people are interested to stay in our home and allow us to take the trip and not need to worry about our home and pets! I already trusted Trusted House Sitter because of my friend and her wonderful experiences and now after using the service myself I'm not only trust it but I am considering how we would also travel and BE Trusted House Sitter‘s!
What a great way for worlds to come together and people to meet and ultimately realize we're all here to be safe and happy and healthy! What a great idea thank you Trusted House Sitter‘s!
This site gives a false sense of security. It is no more that a costly craiglist type listing of ppl who want to sit a home or list a home to sit. The site says background check, verify references and home contents protection... All bs.
Background check are voluntary and provided and payed for by the sitter references are not necessarily from actual sits but look like they are.
We confirmed a sit met the person in advance in person to feel them out... Seemed totally normal, leave on vacation... Get a call mid way through from local animal control telling us our dog was turned over to them apparently found in the park next door. Animal control found our front door left open sitter vanished. Turns out the sitter is the one who turned him over to animal control, not before attempting to enter a neighbor home and stealing clothes from their line. Our home was damaged (improper cleaning ruined antiques and our enamel oven, neither of which needed to be cleaned) she broke a figurine and a few glasses as well as leaving ac running despite us explicitly saying in home guide never to do this because leaks, our home was left by her many hours before we could return so our floors are damaged as well...
The home protection insurance on the site is again false advertising, fine print makes it clear you must claim in your home insurance, mediate with sitter for anything under 1000$ and only after using your own home insurance can you claim anything from trustedhousitter...
The fee you pay is pure profit to a site that claims to provide a service but only service is access to ppl who are interested in house sitting. Zero protection and no actual vetting of sitters. Buyer be extremely aware... And sitter be aware you are liable for all damages this site will not support or protect you.
We lost our on half our vacation, our brand new oven is ruined, our antiques damaged, and our home violated by having someone who totally misrepresented themselves and abandoned our home to be damaged.
Nothing trustworthy about this site waste of money.

We saw some friends were using this site and they have done about 80 house sits now! We joined last year and we have now done 7 sits in 5 countries! We love it, as we don't like long term hotel rooms. We love having access to a full kitchen and usually, hosts say to help ourselves to what is in the fridge/ pantry. We have had a variety of pets to look after, but the house and pet obligations are outlined in the 'offer'. There must be over 100 new sits advertised per day. Some opportunities are keenly sought, and we haven't been chosen for every opportunity we have applied for, but the system appears open and communication with hosts has always been good through the system. Our feedback from hosts is that they are just as happy as we are with the site and the system. The first time for a host seems like a giant leap of faith in humanity, trusting that the strangers that they invite to their homes will respect their home and pets. We would look at being hosts if our youngest child ever leaves home! We always try to ensure the home is cleaner than when we arrived, the pantry is just as full as when we arrived, and the pets are happy. We set our own parameters for what we want from our next house-sit. It is possible to link a few sits together if you are happy to travel between and spend a few nights in paid accommodation. We love it and you might too!
We employed a house sitter from TrustedHousesitters. The sitter charged (fair enough), arranged to meet us several times and then cancelled. Eventually meeting us some 6 months later and too close to Christmas to cancel. We left her In The care of our three dogs. She insists on food, alcohol and plenty of bottles of tonic water plus her Christmas dinner and bits paid her. Well I was obviously a mug and naive! Left her emergency money for the dogs too. Well all I can say is thank god the dogs were still alive, she broke our kitchen tap, damaged our kitchen floor beyond repair, the dogs were scared and she often left them for hours (neighbours reported), spent many a day in local pubs, spent emergency fund on junk food and still wanted us to pay for her taxi back to the station when the tube was 4 mins walk away! I dont think so, she cost us a fortune in sitting, and food and repairs. She cost us far more than other reputable agencies and when we complained, they brushed it off and didnt take it any further we should have done but were just happy the dogs were all still alive. Steer clear of this company and choose animal aunts or animal angels instead if in the uk
I was completely traumatized by the response from Trusted Housesitters and my house sit in COSTA RICA be warned - after reporting the most traumatic event of invasion of privacy possible human trafficking! They did nothing except take the homeowner word over mine - upon being filmed by a drone on her property while undressing in my room and while in bed! And no curtain on the inside shower window let alone she lied to me and did not disclose it had happened before and she has outdoor showers and rents it out to others too! I was applaud by THS response to cancell my membership after reporting this to them! And not take it seriously the thought my naked body was being filmed and is out there on the Internet is discusting behavior I was so traumatized stressed and depressed as a result of her and THS! And to report it and be cancelled form my membership! Discusting behavior of house owners in Costa Rica!
Angel,
I am very disappointed to read this review and the others that you have posted. TrustedHousesitters have gone over and above to support you only to be met with rudeness and unproven accusations of other members conduct. Your membership was revoked due to several instances where you were abusive to our team and myself.
Kind regards

We are fairly new to Trustedhousesitters.com. We, The Chiang Gang, are a family of 4 traveling around the world and vlogging our journey as we go on youtube and social media. We have used trustedhousesitters.com service several times already and the result has always been a great and rewarding experience every time. To date we have been able to secure 7 house sits throughout North America. We have completed 3 of these at this time and were able to save a lot financially on what would have otherwise been hotel costs. Each sit met our needs and we enjoyed the experience. I find the site easy to navigate. There are always new opportunities being posted. It allows great communication between sitter and homeowner and keeps a record of message history between both so you can refer back if you need to confirm any details. The annual fee pays for itself in just a one night sit when compared to hotel stays. I find the service from the company to be very professional and know many others who have used it with success. I would definitely recommend this site whether you are a potential sitter or homeowner looking for loving and professional care for your pets and home while you're gone.
Thanks to Trustedhousesitters, we can now travel more affordably, meet wonderful people and their pets. We really are enjoying experiencing new locations in this country and soon worldwide.
I LOVE TrustedHousesitters.com and share it with everybody! I stumbled upon the site while looking for an affordable way to travel and experience new places more like a local. After my first house sit, I've been hooked for life! In two years, my friend and I traveled all over the USA house/pet sitting and we made so many amazing four and two-legged friends. Applying for the assignments has been extremely easy, and we always manage to find like-minded home owners that we share a lot in common with. From New Orleans, Chicago, and San Francisco through Maui to Barcelona and Paris - every experience I have had through the website has been incredible! Not to mention, that my friend and I won a contest hosted by TrustedHousesitters, com and got free airplane tickets to anywhere in the world! We decided to go to Portugal and pet sit four adorable cats!:-) The TH team has been so helpful and professional, I love how everybody seems to really care about what they do and they have been introducing user-suggested improvements all the time! I love how the site allows me the flexibility to travel affordably and experience new places as the locals do, while enjoying the company of pets and making new friends! It has definitely changed my life in so many ways and I recommended wholeheartedly to everyone who shares the same passions in life!:-)
We've used TrustedHouseSitters.com for several years now. With only one exception, (the sitter was not great) we've had enormous success with having great sitters who are above and beyond when it comes to all that needs doing on our farm with cats and in other times, dogs too. The people are respectful, capable and ready to do all things wonderfully and they have! We've had unusual circumstances and the folks have been ready and able to meet anything and any challenges that have come along. All in all we will continue to use them and be grateful for those kind-hearted animal loving folks who show up for us. This is an amazing resource and site for anxious travelers. I highly recommend it. You do have to do your due diligence, you must ask the right questions, give accurate information, and follow through on references, anything that you would do in any other setting where you are required to trust, hire, et cetera. It is a wonderful win win exchange situation for pet/home owners and travelers alive.
I have used Trusted Housesitters many times and absolutely love it. No money changes hands. People come care for your pets, plants, livestock, home, etc and they get to visit a new area with no hotel fees. I have people in my apartment from all over the world. My cats are well cared for and my home is spotless when I return! Both sitters and homeowners are background checked. I have only sat once for a family. They had two dogs, two cats, chickens, plants and a pool I needed to do some simple maintenance. I have a friend who Housesat at a beautiful home on the Spanish Riviera! As a sitter, you choose what types of animals you are willing to take care of. As a homeowner, I review each applicant's past reviews and find out why they want to visit my area. We talk on the phone or through online video and get to know one another. A Welcome Guide seen only by your confirmed sitter provides all the necessary instructions and helpful tips about my pets, my home and things to do in the area. Give it a try, you won't regret it!
We loved your home, your community, our continuous communication with you and overall how smooth everything worked out between us. We hope our paths will cross again in the near future. BIG LOVE. Xo
My sitter had to cancel with less than a day's notice, so I had no way of finding someone on the site to replace her before I left the country. Ended up having to pay someone local instead, and trustedhousesitters refused to refund my subscription fee. Stay away unless you want to risk being out over $100 for nothing.
Edit: In response to the trustedhousesitters reply below, I don't see how you expect to be able to help me find a new sitter when my flight leaves in a few hours. I certainly would not let anyone into my home when I haven't had a chance to talk to them first.
There may be lots of time left on my membership, but this is my big trip for the year, and the price of membership is absolutely not worth having someone watch my cats for a night or a weekend when I could easily have a neighbor do that.
It shouldn't be my responsibility to make sure someone else has their paperwork in order to enter the country. I'm very disappointed in my first and last experience with this site.
Hello Vicky,
I am sorry to hear that your sitter was unable to attend your sit and care for your lovely cats. I can see from our recent correspondence with us that the sitter in question had issues with their visas.
Whilst sitters not being able to attend a confirmed sit is a complete rarity on the site, we do always recommend that things such as visas are firmly in place before making travel arrangements. When applying for a sit outside of the sitters home country our FAQ's advise that the sitters are aware of that specific countries entry requirements, including visas. I am sorry to hear that this does not appear to be the case in this situation.
There are definitely things that we can do to help you as your sitter is unable to attend your sit. It is not unheard of for a sitter to be able to help out on a last minute sit! I can see that my colleague is assisting you, however, please do get in touch with me personally if you would like me to also help you with this - Please email me at support@trustedhousesitters.com FAO Carla.
Unfortunately, we are unable to refund your membership fee based on the sitter not being able to attend your sit due to their visa issues. However, as your membership lasts for a full year there is still lots of time and opportunities to use your membership and we can look at any future dates that you may be away - anything from an overnight stay where you need someone to care for your cats to weeks or months! We can get those dates listed for you and help you achieve full use of your membership.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you
Carla

On reading most of the comments below, good and bad, Im surprised that there are people who are rating the site with one/two stars due to the fact they didnt get a confirmed sit/sitter. As with most things in life you have to be realistic with what your aim is when signing up. I moved abroad a few years ago and found it very useful when returning to my home country to visit friends and relatives, I would apply for sits in nearby towns and that way I had my own space. Ive had repeat Sits and have been asked regularly to do sits coming up for people that have read my profile. It also helped me confirm sits in the country I was living in, even though people had never heard of the sit, I could refer to it if I heard people where looking for a sitter and it worked for me. I suppose its a bit like uploading your CV for a job application, not everyone gets an interview. Disappointed as it may seem, to anyone who is serious about doing a sit my advice would be go for it. Give it a year and then review things from there as to wether or not its working for you.
This site is awful. Its the only one which charges homeowners to start (apparently due to their great customer service). My house was trashed by one of their sitters and they told me there was nothing I could do apart from leave a bad review. I did, they then asked me to change it when the sitter complained. She had a list of excuses and denials, which they took seriously. This turned into an awful dispute- the last thing you want when you are already upset that your home was used. Valuable plate (over 300GBP) smashed and thrown out, cats urinated in bedroom, total mess. Now every time I use a house sitter again I will be anxious while I am away.
I would have left it at the review- but they didn't respect my right to do that. In fact, they implied I had not used the site properly. That is not what they would have said had they actually SEEN my flat.
On top of that, they were extremely patronising. I was- obviously- very angry at the house sitter, and based on private emails between her and I, they told me publicly that 'they are sure both parties learnt something about getting a more positive outcome in future'.
I learnt not to use trustedhousesitters.com.
Seriously. Don't use this site. They don't care about you or your house, they only care about your cash.
Everyone they have recommended have been fabulous. Highly recommend their service and have told my friends and family. No more worrying about being able to travel and hiring a pet sitter. The best!
We have just completed our first housesit which allowed us to explore an area of the country we are both interested in. We loved having a beautiful dog for company on our travels.
After joining this group I had a couple hiccups with the dashboard and techy things so email support was great and I found the help to maneuver around my own profile very helpful
Have had nothing but extremely positive experiences using the Trusted Housesitters website. Easy to find what you are looking for, secure, easy to communicate and user friendly.
I love browsing through their sits and planning new adventures. I just did my first petsit and loved the experience. My next sit is in London for 2 weeks. What could be better?
I have just had my first trusted housesitters experience allowing me to leave Rufus my feisty terrier home and myself to travel without worry (or additional expense).
Answer: Fees are an annual membership for both homeowner and pet sitters (approx $120). With thousands of members, I've not had any problem finding a sitter.
Answer: Hi Jim, when house sitting it is expected that you will take care of your own cooking, etc. You will have full use of the homeowners kitchen facilities. We hope this helps. TrustedTeam
Answer: Yes. It depends on where you live but this couple is beyond question the best and dependable and honest. Debbie and Wil Wilburn. debbieandwillwilburn@gmail.com Please give my name: Fluffy's mom
Answer: Your accommodations are free. You still have to get there on your own. Since accommodations are often the biggest expense of a trip, it is a great deal. Use code RAF270183 to get 25% off you annual membership fee.
Answer: Hi Caroline, Thank you for your question, forgive my delayed reply. If you haven't already contacted the Membership Services Team (https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb) I would encourage you to do so and they will help you to get this resolved. Kind Regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team
Answer: Hi Sada, You'll be able to read reviews of the sitters on their profiles. If there isn't anything showing, then this indicates that the sitter doesn't have any reviews just yet. If there is something else that we can do to help, please do get in touch with Membership Services, and we'll be more than happy to speak with you further. Kind regards, The TrustedHousesitters Team

Hi Alison
None of the sitter members within our online community should be charging for their house and pet sitting services, the ethos of the community is that we operate a altruistic arrangement, where the sitters do so for free, in exchange for world wide accommodation and the love and companionship of pets. Due to this, we would very much like to hear from you, with regards to this, so we may open a investigation into this sitters conduct.
When any issue is brought to our attention, rest assured the member in question risks the suspension of their membership account with us, we would never brush off such serious allegations, but can only act within the remit of our Code of Conduct, terms and conditions and or guidelines, and when evidence is provided.
I am however very sorry you feel this way, and can assure you it is not a typical experience.
Many Thanks
The TrustedHousesitters Team
